Finally, after 4 years, Symphony X is back. While it is not their best record, Paradise lost is well worth adding to your collection. Well written and produced, the sound is awesome.

I've been listening to it for about a week now and can't believe how good it is. It's beautifully produced and musically genius. It is definitely a harder sounding album that former albums, both in terms of the "crunch" guitar sound and the vocal edge. Notably, it's very tight without too many tangential interludes, yet it still keeps SX's tradition of odd meters, very clever transitions, great melodies, and epic and powerful vocalization. Like many of the best albums out there, this one seems to require a few listens to pick up on the subtle cues and amazing music - which is great because I know it will age like fine wine. You won't get bored of this one anytime soon, and you may find it's immediately your fav SX album. Two thumbs up.

I opted to wait a bit before submitting my CD review. I like to give new music a few good listens to become acquainted with its contents. I recently attended the SymphonyX show in Portland. At the time I wasn't excited about Paradise Lost; probably because I was comparing it to older material. After seeing/hearing many of these songs performed live, I compiled my entire SX catalogue into an MP3 disc. After completing the entire disc while traveling on extended weekends, I realized just how incredibly powerful Paradise Lost is. Each song is full of precision and skilled musical craftsmanship.

This is without a doubt an outstanding group of songs by one of rock music's greatest musicians. From the opening moments of Oculus to the perfect Revelation, Paradise Lost should be considered a strong 2007 Grammy contender. Michael Romeo, Russell Allen, Jason Rullo, Michael Pinnella and Michael Lepond have created their most powerful release to date. Not a moment of fluff or filler here.

Trust me folks, there will never be another Symphony X. Enjoy them while you can. Newcomers to the band should enjoy everything from The Damnation Game forward.

Russel Allen is without a doubt one of the most powerful singers of our times, and Michael Romeo is pure genius in how he has crafted this album and he slays on his guitar! Every song is great and their sound is more powerful than ever before. They are the best progressive metal act today and now officially blow Dream Theater away....

Loaded with lyrics about nightmares, pain, isolation and broken relationships, One X, the sophomore effort from Three Days Grace should be a downright bummer of a ride. Instead, the listener manages to find uplift lurking beneath the weighty lyrics as the quartet churns out a series of anthemic, crunch-chord songs. The band moves from arena-ready light metal with "It's All Over" to the sex groove of "Animal I Have Become," before plunging the listener into full-on chaotic heaviness during the anti-alienation anthem "Riot" and easing us into the atmospheric future hit "Get Out Alive." Throughout, TDG remains true to its core alt-metal sound. I love this new band.......2007-07-31

Well they have been around a while but they are new enough, who could not like this nice mix of musical tastes? It's all over, Never too late, and Riot are my favorites but I like them all. I wish I would have heard of this band sooner but now that I have I am really going to be listening to their other releases. This is good rock that does not assault the senses or hurt your ears. I hope this band stays together for a long time they seem to be different than a lot of the bands out there today, just kind of doing their own thing and not trying to sound like the band next door.

The band is excellent. They are good musicians and play tightly together. The problem is the lyrics are awful. This is nothing less than nightmares set to music. If you have these same thoughts running through your head, seek some professional psychiatric help. Absolutely not recommended for young listeners. Parents you are warned. No wonder the record industry is on the ropes.

My Favorite CD
Three Days Grace is not only for one group of people. A lot of people I know and people I don't know love Three Days Grace.Rockers, punk, and the girls scream for them. I went to their concert when they came to buffalo and they were sweet. I never heard a band that sounded just as good live as they are on the CD.Here are some of there songs: Are You Ready, Pain, Never Too late, Just Like You, I Hate Everything About You, and tons more.
When I first listened to the CD I never stopped.In my opinion this CD is amazing and I can't wait until they make another one.I play the drums and when I heard the drummer I was BLOWN away.
I recommend this CD to everyone who is willing to listen to something new.You will be impressed,Even my mom loves them.

I like the CD One X by Three Days Grace. This CD has 12 songs on it. These songs are about 3 minutes long. Three Days Grace is a Canadian band. I like the songs Riot, One X and all the other song on the CD. There is some swearing in three of the songs. My opinion of this CD would be a 10 out of 10. I love this CD so much that I downloaded it on my I pod. I would recommend this CD to kids that are older than 12 because of the swearing. I would also recommend this CD to people that like rock music

Things have gone ridiculously well for Coldplay since 2002's A Rush of Blood to the Head. The group's global album sales have soared past the 10-million mark, putting it in the same stratosphere as megabands U2 and the Dave Matthews Band. People have offered up their bank accounts, cars, and even bodies for tickets to its shows. And, in a interesting twist, frontman Chris Martin married Gwyneth Paltrow and set the tabloid world aflame. Funny thing, then, that the British quartet's much-anticipated third album, X&Y, is all about staying grounded. In the powerful opener, "Square One," the singer insists people are fundamentally the same no matter what their stature: "You just want... Somebody listening to what you say," he sings. On "Fix You," Martin grapples with imperfection and missed opportunity: "When you love someone but it goes to waste... Could it be worse?" Meanwhile, the vibrant single, "Speed of Sound," is all about reconnecting with the spirit and soul in the face of the paparazzi's flashbulbs. Even though this is not my favorite CD by Coldplay, I found it very enjoyable.

This is not a bad album. However, it is not a great album either. I am a Coldplay fan. I thought both Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head were very good albums, particularly a Rush of Blood, which didn't have a really bad track on it. X&Y is not of the same caliber. I admit that I really liked some of the tracks on X&Y--particularly Fix You, A Message, The Hardest Part, and Til Kingdom Come. However, it had at least one track that I absolutely hated, Twisted Logic, and a number of others that just seemed like filler and all blend together for me. I can't say exactly what went wrong with this album--only that something did.

Encouragingly, some of the best songs associated with this album are the B-sides, in particular Proof and The World Turned Upside Down. So, I have some confidence that Coldplay can right the ship with their next album. I give X&Y a half-hearted recommendation, but if you don't own any Coldplay albums, don't let this be the first one. Purchase A Rush of Blood and Parachutes first, and if you absolutely love them, go for this one.

Finally, I would simply ignore all of the Radiohead fanboys who constantly rip Coldplay. I love Radiohead, in my view one of the best bands of the past 20 years. But I'm not so foolish as to think that no other band can make great music, including a band that is heavily influenced by Radiohead. There is no doubt that Coldplay's music, especially Parachutes, was influenced by The Bends and OK Computer. But if you can listen to OK Computer without hearing the influence of the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, Miles Davis or the Beatles, then you haven't listened to enough music in your lifetime. The short story is, Coldplay stand on their own just fine without being accused of being completely derivative of Radiohead.

Good, but this band is capable of more........2007-05-21

Having listened to a great deal of Coldplay's rarities and B-sides before, I have to say that I was unfortunately a little let-down by X&Y. Though it's by no means a bad album, when compared to tracks like "Rush of Blood to the Head", "Spies", or their almost completely unknown "Ladder to the Sun", nothing here quite matches the complexity that we all know this group is capable of. There's a lot of great moments, but not quite as much to make you drop what you're doing and hang onto every word.

If you're looking for their best work, I'd have to recommend "Rush of Blood to the Head" over X&Y. If you already own "Rush" and like what you've heard, by all means give it a shot. But just make sure you listen with an open mind.

Creative Genius.......2007-05-14

Chris Martin is absolutely amazing. Not only does he write his own music (unlike Brittney Spears, Christina Agulera, Pink, Jessica Simpson, and so many other cheesy singers), but his music and lyrics are absolutely fantastic. If you pay attentoion to the lyrics, there is a much deper story to the entire album. Moreover, there are so many creative twists and turns with not only the melody, but also the sudden introduction of bass that bursts the song into life! A classic of the '00 decade.......2007-04-23

There's no denying the U2 influence on "X&Y." Chris Martin's soothing voice, mixed with soaring vocals and a huge rock sound, are reminiscent of U2's best work over the years (see U2 - The Best of 1990-2000). Other U2 elements are present as well: hopeful but questioning lyrics, tight staccato beats, swirling or chiming guitars, a bit of piano, an anchoring bass and serious musicians who truly want to change and heal the world through music, one weary person at a time.

Like Bono, Martin's voice has good range, and he can even hit the higher notes with a bit more ease (probably because he's younger than Bono and cigarettes and drink haven't yet ravaged his pipes). Also like Bono, Martin writes beautiful, transcending lyrics that really do inspire.

"Square One," one of the album's best songs, leads things off: "From the top of the first page/To the end of the last page/From the start of your own way/You just want someone listening to what you say," croons Martin. Right off the bat, there's a storybook, conceptual feel to this CD. Despite his rock-star status (or maybe because of it), Martin sounds just as insecure as many of us; check out the fragile tunes "What If" and "Fix You," for instance. "X&Y" seems to be an album about finding one's way in this tough world, taking risks and fulfilling your potential. Martin's sad lyrics are often redeemed by the hopeful tone of the album, and it's a rare feat to pull off a piece of musical work that contains such great songs AND meaningful lyrics. Unlike most multi-platinum sellers, "X&Y" has an understated edge to it that gives it a leg up.

With its killer high-pitched riff, giant rock sound and big sing-along chorus, "Talk" gets the award for the most arena-ready and accessible song on "X&Y." "You can take a picture of something you see/In the future, where will I be?/You can climb a ladder up to the sun/Or write a song nobody has sung." "Speed of Sound" also contains commercial appeal (like all these songs), and was indeed released as a single in the mid-'00s.

"X&Y's" title track is the album's most romantic, a lush love song that aims for the stratosphere via airy lyrics, a peaceful string section and mesmerizing guitar: "You and me are floating on a tidal wave, together/You and me are drifting into outer space," croons Martin. "Swallowed in the Sea" has a similarly beautiful sound and message, with Martin singing, "I could write a book." This fully loaded line almost brings the album full circle. Almost.

"Twisted Logic" contains a darker sound and hesitant vibe at first, but soon the music changes and becomes positively soaring and uplifting. The sprightly acoustic hidden track is also a gem, a love song with personal, heart-wrenching lyrics. Martin's voice sounds close and weary, his most Bonoesque vocals of the album. "For you I'd wait, till Kingdom Come/Until my days, my days are done/Say you'll come, and set me free/Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me." Words don't get more poignant than that.

The interesting thing will be to witness where Coldplay goes from here. U2 lifted its sound to more adventurous, interesting territories as they moved on (see Achtung Baby), and so too could this important band.

On its fifth album, Static X mines its familiar Prong-meets-Ministry sound to convincing effect over the course of twelve tracks of industrial metal darkness. Because the band's name alone makes comparisons to the likes of White Zombie, Korn, and Slipknot redundant, it's instead worth noting that Cannibal is arguably the group's leanest, most direct-sounding, and most metal album to date. And, if this album is a harbinger of the outfit's future ventures, then listeners are in for a eye-popping ride. Wayne Static and his cohorts are perhaps most effective on the stomping "Cuts You Up," the dark and discoesque "Behemoth," and the grand executioner of them all, "Destroyer." Still, the record suffers a bit for its intentions of brutality. The hit-and-run approach of Static's songwriting means that none of the tracks reach the four-minute mark and thus come off as vignettes rather than fully realized narratives. All in all, Cannibal may be the album that detractors and fans alike have been waiting for, the one that proves that Static means to take us on a longer and more interesting journey than we could have ever imagined. --Jedd Beaudoin

This is some nice evil disco here. Guitar Solo's and even some double bass give this Static Album more balls than their other albums. Its nice to see static playing this kind of music. Favorite songs are cannibal, no submission, chemical logic, chromo matic, cuts you up, and destroyer.

Though Static X is one of my favorite bands, I feel like this album is not as musically inventive and solid as the last two have been (particularly Shadow Zone). Still a great album!

Another great album by Static-X.......2007-06-13

Static-X has revamped their sound more times than I honestly care to count, but I can say with all honesty that I've loved everyone of their albums. As most will say none have quite broken the barrier like Wisconson Death Trip, but you can't always compare things so heavily. Each album has had wonderful sounds to it and all in all Static-X is a great band and never a bad choice to buy. If you're the kinda person who can't stand change in a band and was deviasted when bands chance their sound then this is simply not the band for you, but if you have an open mind and enjoy sounds you can simply just rock out to then you wont find a better group to listen to.

Their greatest album yet - The rest of you wimps can go to heaven.......2007-06-07

All those reviews that have less than 5 stars are those who give up easily, can't listen to a song the second time. All it takes is some faith and a second or probably third listen and you'll all get hooked.

Wayne Static has always kept his consistency in keeping most of his songs to less than 3 minutes. It not only helps him focus on giving us the tightest music but gives us fans a treat, rather than listen to a 10 minute drab.

There are some obvious classics in this album - Cannibal, No Submission (my personal favourite), Chroma-matic and Behemoth (One of the greatest first 15 seconds I've listened to).

Static-X has given its heart and soul and gone all out in this album touching thrash and heavy metal.

Reptile, 40 ways, Electric Pulse etc. are songs that you will need to listen to a second time, probably a third for hard to convince people like me, but trust me you will get hooked I guarantee it!

And for all those reviewers who have given it 1,2 or 3 stars go back to your ipod and listen to it again and lets see if it changes your mind!

With each subsequent CD, it seems like Fourplay gets better and better. 'Turnabout' brings back memories of the first few CDs they released when they had Lee Ritenour on guitar. Even Steve Winwood would have to admit that Michael McDonald gives new texture to 'My Love's Leavin'. This band has been making great music since 1991. If this is your first Fourplay purchase, it will make you want to buy each of the previous nine CDs; even the offering of Christmas music!

Get This In Your CD Player .......2007-03-27

Any person that knows smooth jazz will tell you that these four guys by themselves are major forces on their own. But when they combine their incredible talents for a project..well here is the result.. "X"
This is pure listening enjoyment. Not one bad song is on this one. Whether you are in your car or sitting at home with a glass of Scotch(my favorite!) this is one that will not disappoint. Larry Carlton shines on guitar as always and the keyboard work of Bob James just sets it off. Nathan East adds his class on bass and the drum work of Harvey Mason is what makes these songs just flow together like a perfect day. Incredible sounds that will only have leave you saying at the end why did they only put nine songs on this.

Fourplay return with their tenth set that oozes the quality and accomplished playing you would expect.
Cuts like Bob James' "Turnabout" and the breezy "Eastern Sky" epitomize what Fourplay is about.
Michael McDonald adds his distinctive vocals to the dramatic ballad "My Love's Leavin".
Check the flowing Jazz jaunt "Screenplay" on which James' playing is particularly expressive.
The band's trademark light touch and melodic focus characterise this set that is their finest for many years.

Steeped in poetry and class issues, X was the first L.A. punk band to fully incorporate a dark West Coast sensibility. Singer/lyricists/spouses John Doe and Exene Cervenka forged a stray-cat approach to vocal harmonies while spieling reports on crash-pad sex and drugs, casual hatred, and the occasional spotting of the "idle rich." Full-powered and intelligent, X's sound also spotlighted Billy Zoom, a pompadoured guitarist schooled by Gene Vincent, and flexible drummer D.J. Bonebrake. Los Angeles, the first of four productions by ex-Door Ray Manzarek, made an excellent case for the group, though its ambitions were to be quickly outstripped by the evolving personal takes of Doe and Cervenka. For the most part, the album is fast, hard, and fleet, like the motorcycles Zoom loved: "Your Phone's Off the Hook," "Johnny Hit and Run Pauline," the title track, and a Ramones-style cover of the Doors' "Soul Kitchen" are touchstones that reach beyond their era. Scary entity in your head-the music of X's Los Angeles.......2007-03-18

The uneasy beauty of the raw punk sound alongside the dark and troubling subject matter on this classic 1980 release is worthy of a true 5 star rating. This is a strange and disturbing CD. My first listen left me emotionaly askew,but I loved it. This is a must have punk-style CD.
John Doe and Exene's haunting,dissonant vocal tracks are downright scary.
Go buy this CD. After listening to it,you won't feel comfortable for days...

The First - Not The Best.......2007-01-12

This is X's first recording and contains most of the songs X are famous for. I loved this as a teenager...it just oozes angst and anger but I'd have to say now with an adult perspective that X's second go round Wild Gift rings a lot more true to the groups originality and song writing and arrangement. Not to say that I don't think that there are some really great tracks on Los Angeles but you won't find a dab of political correctness on this one. There are a few tracks that are downright offensive. I wouldn't let my boy's (11 & 16) listen to it and they love hearing the wierd stuff mom used to listen to. I wouldn't suggest this CD for anyone other than hardcore X fans.

X-TACY! (sorry, that was lame).......2006-05-15

Imagine a hybrid of The Sex Pistols, Fleetwood Mac, and Chuck Berry and you'd have something close to X's genius sound. Wheareas other West Coast outfits like Black Flag and Circle Jerks made a career out of playing harder, louder, and faster X placed more emphasis on tight musicianship and tunefulness, while still remaining very much a punk band. Their 1980 debut Los Angeles is perhaps their best, darkest album (classic cover to boot!).

From the moment that Exene Cervenka and bassist John Doe start applying their distinctive and slightly off-key harmonies, you can tell from the get-go it's an X song. Both vocalists tell seamy tales of California's underground and the ennui and nihilism of the rich, ranging from date rape (Johnny Hit & Run Pauline) to crashing in a punk dive (Nausea). Exene would have an even greater role in later releases, but on this album the songs are split largely 50/50 between the two vocalists.

Meanwhile, Billy Zoom's guitar blasts out pitch-perfect surf rock riffs and DJ Bonebrake's tight rhythms hold the whole thing together. Ex-Doors member and producer Ray Manzarek contributes some color with some great overdubbed organ lines, but otherwise this album is raw and searing, just as it should be. Your Phone's Off The Hook (But You're Not), The World's A Mess It's In My Kiss, Sex & Dying In High Society and the title track are barnstorming, venomous, and humorous all at once, while The Unheard Music is a slower-burning track with a more poetic and haunting delivery thrown in for variety.

Apart from a somewhat mediocre cover of The Doors' Soul Kitchen and a short album length (the original album is under 30 minutes, and the extra tracks are mostly demos that don't add much to the album), Los Angeles is an excellent release and essential to any discerning punker. Wild Gift and Under The Big Black Sun are also vital X albums, if a bit more polished and civilized than this one.

The Greatest Album Of All-time.......2006-05-05

This album is the true definition of what rock n roll is. It's the perfect album. Mixing all sorts of different genres together,and at that time no other band was doing what X did. There were many followers after, but none with the pure, raw, dark, energy that Los Angeles had. Exene and John Doe's voices morph together sending shivers up my spine every single time I here this album. They're song writing abilities are superior to every other song writer, yes even Bob Dylan. The lyrics take you to the darkest, most evil place you could imagine, yet they make that evil place romantic and comforting. You can feel there words. I can't say that about any other band. Billy Zoom is hands down the greatest guitar player ever. He's like an inteligent version of Chuck Berry on speed.And to see him play live with that constant satisfied smile on his face is just great.
This album will totally change your view of music and probably yourself. Produced by Ray Manzarek, who also plays organ on three tracks. Including the punked up cover of "Soul Kitchen".If you claim to be a true fan of music you will love this album. If you don't like it you are not a music fan and you should probably stop listening to music altogether.

By what criteria do you rate a progressive rock fusion album on steroids? If I was rating this merely on musical skill on display, it would have to be 5 stars.

Yes, there is mind-blowing technical prowess on display throughout this album and I laugh at the the sheer audacity of what these musicians present with finesse. I am sure Vinnie and Simon Phillips are grateful they were not invited to play drums on the opening track - for drummers out there - listen with caution - as Virgil kicks serious poly-rhythmic butt! Complexity that most rock drummers wouldn't comprehend, and if this isn't enough wait for the double-pedal speed kick in the final track's extended drum extravaganza!

This progressive drumming master class never abates and as much I believed it was Virgil who keeps the excitement going through their live album I hesitantly suggest that there are just too many time changes on every single track and that his compositional style weakens this album. I would have thought that Derek Sherinian, as the awesome keyboardist he is, would have surely been able to at least share 50% of the compositional credits. I would have preferred a variety of compositional styles as the repeated minor motifs that appear in nearly all the tracks make this almost repetitious towards the second half of the album.

Perhaps I need to let this music grow on me; or more specifically the compositions. I am blown away, if not shaken, yet I am not stirred or should I say emotionally engaged with this album.

The second track is the highlight for me and the very different piano approach in the opening bars with the unmistakable touch of Holdsworth's shimmering chords is wonderful. His solo is like most if not all Allan's work - unmistakable tone, breath taking speed and beauty. It is indeed a loss that instead of playing on the whole album, Holdsworth contributes only here and on track 4 with another master solo over an impeccable Donati groove (I loved the openness and space here).

What I did note was how similar Derek's keyboard solos sound to Holdsworth; indeed even Garsed's guitaring had tone and approach that approximated the 'noodling' of Holdsworth. One can't help but think what might have been. That's not to say that Brett Garsed's playing is lacking; on the contrary I believe that with not much notice he came to the rescue and pulled out some amazing playing. One does sense though that overall this album is more keyboard dominant and that rhythm guitaring in particular was lacking or so close to the keybooard mix that it's not noticeable.

The track 'Poland' has grown on me with each listen and ends with Sherinian's keyboard providing an alien soundscape including dolphin-like cries over which is there is a great Jimmy Johnson bass solo. This stands out as a beacon of melodic light from the dark sheets of keyboard and at times muddy bottom end that permeate through the album.

The production and musical standards are high - even the packaging and great cover art make you hold this CD with anticipation and appreciation. Yet often it seemed too much like a great orchestrated jam session.

This all instrumental album - a hybrid between Dream Theater meets Return to forever on steriods, establishes the unique Planet X style. In spite of some criticism, if you like intense frenetic rock fusion, then you'll enjoy the ride.

Planet X raises the bar.......2007-07-05

Theres not enough cliches to describe the level of depth and virtuosity that this band has attained. Virgil gets the MVP award in my book. His playing is simply beyond everyone else on a drumkit. His compositions are futuristic and mind bending, both literally and metaphorically. Every player in the band is at the top of his game, Quantum will be THE CD that will make waves in the prog/metal universe this year.

How Could This Band Get Any Better!.......2007-07-02

Definately the best Planet X album so far. Absolutely Stunning! Put on your headphones and get ready to travel the Universe! Derek Sherinian is the best keyboard player on Earth. The only drawback to this record is that the Great Allan Holdsworth should have had alot more playing time.

Many thanks to Planet X for another ride in their universe of very different and interesting music. This album is a breath of fresh air. I own all of PX albums and I follow them since their first output "Universe". I find this as one of the most focused efforts of theirs. First of all I prefer Garsed to Macalpine on the guitar chair. I think Brett fits better this kind of "alien" music even if Tony played very well on the other releases from the band. Rumors are that for the next chapter the band will have Greg Howe on board. I hope it could be true because Greg is probably the biggest gun in these territories. Holdsworth plays here just a couple of solos, they are nice but don't change the overall feel of the music ... Brett contributes a lot more. What you can find here are a lot of dispair times at the point that sometimes you lose the guys. It is very funny and interesting. If you are a musician you have a lot to think about here rhytmically. If you are not, don't worry because the music is really entertaining if you love this style (metal plus fusion I may say). I really appreciate Virgil Donati's drumming. Sometimes I find myself focusing on his playing and wow, I have to say that he's incredible. I hope this band will release more albums in this area ... I think it is something new and that this style has the potentials to be something even more interesting in the future. But this Quantum is already a very nice album that I find myself listening over and over. Even better than Moonbabies if you want. Bravo to the guys, Brett and Virgil in particular.

Their Best Yet.......2007-06-13

This is by far Planet X's best effort to date.
Worth the wait since the last release, Derek Sherinian, Virgil Donati and guests do an unbelievable job.
Alan Holdsworth, Rufus Philpot and Brett Garsed do outstanding work on guitar, while keyboardist Sherinian and drummer Donati give their usual great performances.
This is one of the year's best in progressive rock so far.

One of the Stones' best!.......2007-07-15

Don't pass this up regardless of what kind of a review you read. "Good Times, Bad Times" (Jaggers/Richards) is a formidable blues tribute (worth the price of the CD itself). Classic covers of "Around and Around" and "It's All Over Now." The Stones reveal their blues roots on this CD more than they do on any other and the material is more cohesive than that found on their first release. I count this as the fourth best of the Rolling Stones releases--Jagger is in his prime and Brian Jones makes his most significant contribution as a Stone on this CD. If you enjoy blues/rock, be sure to add 12 X 5 to your collection.

12x5 (least creative review title ever?).......2007-03-22

Clever moniker aside (12 songs by 5 guys. Get it?), this is probably the weakest of the Rolling Stones' first five discs. The lack of a strong a-side hurts - the highlights of the early Stones' discs were ALWAYS the a-sides, and of course this one, their second, is no exception. Okay, so It's All Over Now was their first UK #1, and it's got a cool dramatic opening riff and catchy, singalong chorus. That said, I don't really listen to it that often. Time is On My Side is a classic, but it's the only one here, at least to me. And the organ-and-harmonica driven instrumental 2120 South Michigan Avenue is bluesy fun. Now for the rest...
I'm sorry, but their cover of the Drifters' Under the Boardwalk is REALLY BAD. Nauseating, even. Ever hear their doo-wap haromines? No? Spare yourself. It's an absolute decable. The resident Chuck Berry cover, Around and Around, is on the boring side, as are the slew of other absolutely useless covers (Confessin' the Blues, If You Need Me, Suzie Q). And while some of the originals (Good Times, Bad Times, Congradulations) are unexpectedly folky, they're also quite dull. Others are more of the blues-rock that's the Stones' calling card (Empty Heart, Grown Up All Wrong). They too are quite dull.
I can't really see why anybody but an obsessive collector would see in 12x5 - Time is on My Side and It's All Over Now can both be found on numerous compilations. I guess you CAN find the all-too-rare 2120 South Michigan Avenue. But the rest is useless.

Solid follow up, but..........2007-03-15

...not nearly as good as the debut or the following album. But there are some gems, like Around and Around, Confessin' the Blues, Time Is on My Side, Good Times Bad Times and It's All over Now. But there's too much filler in the second half, like Under the Boardwalk, Grown up Wrong, If You Need Me and Susie-Q, as well as Empty Heart from early on. For the hardcore Rolling Stone fan only.

Disappointing re-released songs.......2007-05-14

Want this CD? Willing to put up with re-released versions of all the Kanto and Johto songs such as the first two theme songs and miscellaneous tracks like Double Trouble? (I ask: WHY?!)

If you're a longtime fan, with CDs of 2.B.A Master and Totally Pokemon already in the collection, don't bother. Half of this CD's tracks are a waste of time; we've heard them all before! In fact, not even half of the music here is new material. Most of the new stuff is theme songs, which are also disappointing if you're looking for full 3 minute tracks. Some, like the Battle Frontier theme, only go for about 48 seconds. Tsk tsk; didn't Loeffler and Co bother to come up with more verses in the later seasons?

However, if you're a real enthusiast and you've signed all the petitions to get more CD's released; I suppose this is better than nothing, and it's funny listening to the guy in the Hoenn PokeRap mispronounce all the names. And the CD cover is prettyful. (lots of new poses for all your favourite monsters)

Unlike the first two CD's, there are NO lyrics provided, just updated info on who actually composed the theme songs (urging you to fix up your iTunes playlists). Still, I gave it three stars all the same; the tracks at the end make up for all the old stuff at the beginning. (And yes, I do realise that it's important to come back to the franchise's roots with the first couple of season's music such as the main theme song and the Rap at the end; but there's just a little too many from the first two CD's put on this one to make it actually logical...)

Love It!.......2007-05-13

I bought this for my son (age 7) and it is his favorite cd to listen to...he is a Pokemon fanatic. It has all of the theme songs (except the new, Diamond and Pearl)and that is what he loves about it. We have other Pokemon cd's as well, but this one is one of the best!

Medley of the years.......2007-05-12

Pokémon X: Ten Years of Pokémon is, essentially, the "best of" in music since Pokémon was introduced. Some of the songs have already been released on CD, and only a few are never-before-heard, but the CD is still worth the wait.

The bulk of the CD contains the theme songs for each season of Pokémon so far, with my only concern being the length of these songs. Most of the themes are as short as they were in their respective season, and I know that extended versions are out there for most of the theme songs...but they are still great songs, short and all.

For anyone interested in Pokémon, this is a great buy. It's more of an expansion pack of songs then a complete CD, but it does have that fun appeal, which should be the goal for any CD.

Good soundtrack but not 100% satisfying........2007-04-18

The songs are good and fun to listen to. They are the best of the best from all the songs that have come out over the past ten years. The only problem is that some of the songs are really short.

The Clash made their splash playing raucous punk rock earmarked by a twin chainsaw guitar attack and Joe Strummer's strained vocal barks, so it's easy to forget that they could create some lovely music. See Sandinista!'s "Rebel Waltz" and "Charlie Don't Surf," London Calling's "Death or Glory," and Combat Rock's "Straight to Hell." The boy who used to scream "White Riot!" realized there are other ways to be heard than shouting fire in a crowded theater, and there is no denying that the Clash wanted to be heard. It's a lesson Joe Strummer has carried on as he's gone from angry young man to wizened elder, and with his new album, Rock Art and the X-Ray Style, and new band, the Mescaleros, he trades in the snip and snarl of punk for a loose yet powerful amalgam of blues, country, and reggae grooves. It provides a perfect canvas for Strummer's still potent messages of social insight and political critique, painted with his warm but ravaged vocal chords. Aside from the misstep of the second track, "Sandpaper Blues," Rock Art bristles with outstanding songs. On "Tony Adams," Strummer rants atop a rocking reggae shuffle, "I am waiting for the rays of the morning sun / Somebody tell me clearly--has the New World begun?" On "Techno D-Day" (as close to a Clash City Rocker as you'll find these days) he reinvigorates rock with a revolutionary agenda. The album's best cut, however, is the lovely closer, "Willesden to Cricklewood," a wonderful, wispy tune that finds Strummer waxing poetic on an afternoon whiled away with friends and family in a small town. Absolutely amazing, as expected.......2007-03-20

This is one of those albums you just let spin--- no need to skip a thing. Wait-- I take it back-- there are some tracks worth playing a couple times now and then. Great for all moods and locales.
Joe Strummer will forever be so very missed. His legacy is critical to more than just rock. What an amazing person. His lyrics read like a book. "Forbidden City" is brilliant-- but then again-- so is this entire album.
Without a doubt-- a must-buy.

There is beautiful music on this disk. It is one of my favorite records, praise I would not hand out frivolously. Joe's music here is rich, textured, subtle, worldly, gentle, introspective... but it is also catchy, energetic and charged. Like the Clash catalog, this album is a progression forward with musical exploration. Clash records didn't always strike gold, but you can't accuse Joe of recording the same album twice. The music on X-Ray achieves power without over using the typical "punk" techniques of loud volume, machine-gun drums (sorry Topper) or excessive angst. It's like sitting down with an older wise man and letting his experience and insightfulness dazzle you gently without explosions or exaggeration to hold your attention. There is a toned muscular confidence on this album that keeps the listener there. The music is solid. There is no shortage of ideas or over used ones like the case with Sandinista. Each song has it's own clear identity. This is the 80's album Robert Plant wishes he could have made when he was pretentiously toiling in World music and coming up dull and duller.

Put this disk in the car stereo and go for a drive. By the time "Diggin' the New" and "Forbidden City" kick in, you will already be in a great state of mind.

Someday Joe will be remembered for more than the Clash.......2006-07-17

This may not the be the best piece of music Joe Strummer has ever created--London Calling will forever be remembered as one of the most important records ever produced, and the other two Mescaleros albums are just as good--but this is my favorite.

I began as a Clash fan. They were my favorite band and London Calling was my favorite album for years. I own everything they ever made except Combat Rock, which, at first, I didn't buy because I thought it was a "sell-out" album, and by the time I realized how stupid that was I didn't really care anymore. But if I can blaspheme for a moment, I like everything the Mescaleros have done better than anything by the Clash. In fact, I like it A LOT better. That's partly because my tastes have mellowed out some, but, regardless, this is a fantastic album, as are Global A Go-Go and Streetcore.

Once you get past the opener "Tony Adams," which almost sounds like a natural next step for the clash, with its yelling Joe on vocals, the first thing you'll be shocked by is the African/world-beat sounds of "Sandpaper Blues" and really the whole album. The second thing you'll notice, especially towards the end of the album, is how much Joe softened as he aged. Songs like "Nitcomb" and "Willesden to Cricklewood" are much mellower than any Clash creation. Of course, Rock Art still has plenty of fury, which the later Mescaleros albums have a little less of, on tracks like "Tony Adams" and "Techno D-Day."

Really, Rock Art has a little of everything. It's at points angry, introspective, furious, soft, and always eclectic and always entertaining. Highly reccomended.

Fans of The Clash will not be disappointed with this effort from Joe and the boys. I bought the CD on the strength of Tony Adams & Yalla Yallah downloaded a while back and the rest of the tracks are equally good :o)

OK, I could go on and on about the man and his music but I just wanted to second the one reviewer's opinion about the title track, "X-Ray Style". I must have listened to this one about 200 times and never once felt the urge to skip it. The guy's right, I think it might be the most beautiful song Joe ever wrote, and that is saying something.

Oh yeah, the rest of the album ain't too bad either! But why are you wasting time reading this? Add it to your cart already!
