This man brings up the wonderful tones of my youth, the songs of generations before me, and sends them forth into the atmosphere of my soul in such a way that brings pride, tears, and love for all I grew up with. Tango at its best.......2001-01-26

Sexteto Mayor has moved the old tango to today's music values, without loosing the essence of the tango, the 2x4 rythm. It combines then two things, highly professionally executed music with the virtues of the Argentine tango. A perfect combination. Even if you are not a tango fan, you should not miss this one. This CDs reflects a performance that has today over 500 presentations around the globe, from China to Albulquerque, from Turkey to San Diego, and has performed in the best theatres and music center around the world. Do not miss it.

Mixed emotions.......2000-07-20

I admit it, when it comes to tango, I tend to be a purist. Therefore, I still have a hard time accepting many of the latest "fusion" trends such as certain songs found in this CD which are not real tangos [e.g. "Ojos negros" a traditional Russian song, played in a tango tune] as well as the "bilingual" versions of some traditional tangos (sung with a pathetic accent, reminiscent of the early days of Julio Iglesias, I might add!)] The orchestra however, sounds wonderful, exceptionally balanced and very assertive.

Sexteto Mayor has been known for years in Argentina as being some of the best in tango interpreting and playing. This production meets all expections. This is Argentinian Tango at its best. Respectful and Sultry , Excellent Combination for a Homage.......2001-09-19

I first heard this recording several years ago shortly after La Lupe demised. At first I thought Yolanda, not knowing anything about her, was trying to capitalize on La Lupe's recent death. I should have known that Ralph Mercado and Sergio George two highly perfessional individuals in the latin music genre would not allow it, since one produced it and the other was the musical director. When I heard this on tape for the first time I was completely overwhelmed with the way Yolanda Duke handle every redention, every piece of music, every song, so delicately and at the same time sensual. A truely respectful homage for La Lupe.

A giant step forward.......2007-01-23

Punto Omega's second release improves on their previous album on all levels. The production levels in this release are one of the highest in the market, not only in the electronic genre. They show that hard work and creativity are enough to compensate for modest resources when it comes to creating an uncompromised work of art. This album appeals to a wide public while still maintaining cohesion and coherence from beginning to end.

For those who have listened the band's previous work, expect more of everything in this new release. The melodies and rhythms are more varied than before, they have more guest singers, more analog instruments, while still staying true to the trademark lyrics and music that you have come to love from this band.

Nostalgias del Origen takes us in an introspective journey through internal landscapes, encouraging us to reflect on the moral of our way of life. The album starts with a masterful introduction, with bagpipes played by Pilgrim himself letting us know that the journey has begun. It soon develops into the martial, dance-floor stomping rhythms of the first part, called The Exile (El Destierro), whose tidal waves transition into the calmer melodies of the second part, appropriately named The Return (El Regreso).

Pilgrim has managed to introduce in his compositions many string instruments, skillfully played by guest musicians, that add another dimension to the music. Guest singers, each having his own style, provide a whole new set of emotions and Pilgrim himself surprises us as well by appearing in one of the songs without the trademark distortion.

The lyrics by Viator and Aletheia are deep and no-nonsense, and without them this work would not be complete. Although the lyrics are in Spanish, the band was considerate with the rest of the world and included in the booklet English translations for all the lyrics. The booklet itself is far from being a last minute addition to the album: Each page is decorated with a beautifully hand-drawn illustration that complements music and lyrics. The cover art is one of the most detailed and meaningful works that I have seen in an album.

All in all, this album is a must have. I personally like it a lot more than the first album.

The greatest figures of Tango ... together.......2000-06-15

Gardel is the greatest Tango singer and Lamarque is the Dame of Tango. As argentinians, they sing melodies such as "Silencio" and "Morocha" as no one else could sing. As for Gardel, "Sus ojos se cerraron" is really something to remenber and as for Libertad "Madreselva" is absolutely her best performance. This cd compiles a combination of songs from the greatest figures in Tango and should be added to your collection.

If you like Argentine style tango you won't like this cd, but if you are like me and like tango played romanticly, and with lush stringed arraingements, instead of the harsh icy sound of the argentine way, then you will love this recording, I only wish that the original albums from which this cd was compiled were available in their entirety.

Big disappointment for Tango fans.......2001-04-24

I purchased this CD with great expectations which were completely dashed. I have always wished that Placido Domingo would record a CD of Argentine tango, since he has the voice and sense of drama to do justice to the art of tango. So when I saw this CD, I thought, "Wow!"

However, this CD is a crime commited against tango. The arrangements are not traditional Argentine tango, but the most saccharine gringo tango. I wish that Domingo had recorded with a real tango orchestra like Color Tango or the orchestra from Forever Tango.

Furthermore, this CD recycles music from the soundtrack to the Carlos Saura movie Tango. You might as well get that CD instead of this one for the few tracks worth listening to.
