Customer Reviews:
An incredible live performer..........2001-12-02
While living in Maui, I was lucky enough to catch this brilliant musician. Whether it was at La Pastaria (now known as Hapas), or at Margarita's, his show was never the same. He'd take requests from the crowd, and do scintillating versions of Alanis Morissette's "Hand In My Pocket," and his own hilarious take on a Willie Nelson song "On The Road Again." He'd take songs you despise, and do his own twist on them in a way that you'd want to go buy that artist's album the next day. Case in point was his version of Alanis' "Hand In My Pocket." His version was speeded up about twice as fast as her version. If you can imagine how fast you'd have to play the guitar, and then extend the song to about 15 minutes, in a Hawaiian voice - well, you get my drift. The breaks in the song inspired goosebumps, as the crowd would get into it with him, singing along. He'd switch from acoustic, to electric guitar, and then back and forth several times throughout the song - at one point playing the guitar Jimi Hendrix style with his teeth - or behind his back... he even did the harmonica part at the end... Talent like that doesn't come around very often...
If you do happen to make it to Maui sometime, I do recommend seeking him out. You will not regret it.
Thoroughly satisfying.......2001-09-30
This captures the best of Willie live. I have listened to it nonstop for months and it stil sounds fresh. His version of Over the rainbow sounds like an Angel singing jazz. It will blow you away. And with each listen. I love it even more. He can play the blues, jazz, and good ole rock and roll with a Hawaiian soul. He's a genius.....you'll love it
