Product Description
"As A Man Thinketh" is one of the most influential books of the last two hundred years in the way it focuses on the ability of each of us, as individuals, to improve our lives. It was in this book, that James Allen, its author, clearly expressed with energetic enthusiasm and unwavering encouragement, that we were not to blame circumstances for the condition of our lives, but rather were to take personal responsibility for the unfoldment of our growth and improvement – spiritually, physically and financially. It lays out practical, step-by-step methods for gaining control of every aspect of our thoughts, personality and actions and then describes in inspiring detail each goal along the way, to attain complete mastery of our lives. In the opinion of many, this book is the foundation stone upon which the personal growth movement is based. The book has influenced many of today's leaders in the field of personal growth, including Norman Vincent Peale, Earl Nightingale, Denis Waitley, Tony Robbins and Mark Victor Hansen, co-author of the Chicken Soup books. "Beyond the New Testament, the Old Testament and other books documenting the beliefs of the greatest religions of the world, there is one little book that impacted my life dramatically during my formative teenage years. The book is "As A Man Thinketh", the most widely acclaimed...book written by James Allen, who might be likened to the Norman Vincent Peale or Earl Nightingale of the late 1800's." - Denis Waitley, author of The Psychology of Winning. In this new, recording, narrated by William Simpson, the founder of The Conscious Living Foundation, a wonderful blend of vitality and insight are combined with a tone of authenticity that can only be expressed through genuine experience of the subject matter, rather than just a theatrical dramatic reading of it. Mr. Simpson’s own wisdom and maturity radiate through the recording, touching the listener with a clarity of expression and compassionate awareness that are rare and inspiring. The voice of the narrator becomes the voice of James Allen – melding into one powerful, yet gentle, guide for the spiritual growth of each one who hears this recording. "He who has conquered doubt and fear has conquered failure. His every thought is allied with power and all difficulties are bravely met and wisely overcome. Thought allied fearlessly to purpose becomes creative force." James Allen - from "As A Man Thinketh"

2 out of 5 stars Simpson's narration is bland and uninspiring........2006-01-21

I appreciate the classic "As a Man Thinketh" (AAMT). I have only a abridged version (14 min. mp3, from p2p), with an impressive narrator ... who sounds a lot like Bill Curtis (of A&E and earlier CBS), though I don't believe it is actually Curtis. I have never been able to identify the source of that audio. (And yes, it is humorous to have an abridged audio narration of a book that runs, depending upon formatting, at most 25 pages! I think it was abridged just to take out the parts that seem too anachronistic since AAMT is well over 100 years old.)

Since audio samples of William Simpson's CD aren't on Amazon, I googled for the Conscious Living Foundation mentioned in the author bio, visited the site, went to Downloads, and found audio samples of Simpson reading from AAMT. While he's not the worst narrator I've ever heard, I wouldn't rate him above a 3-4 on 10 scale. AAMT deserves a powerful narrator. Simpson isn't it, IMO. He reminds me of the oh-so-gentle and soft-spoken Hale Dwoskin of "Sedona Method" ("Could you? ... Would you? ... When?").

AAMT's inspiring text deserves a true orator, one who imparts gravitas and passion. Simpson's weak narration is lacking. Since each listener responds differently to narration, go and listen for yourself (at the Conscious Living Foundation site) before purchasing this CD.
