12-century Persian poet Jallalidin Mohammede Balkhi Molavi, a.k.a. Rumi, is probably more famous now than he was during his lifetime due to the proliferation of new music being made in his honor by contemporary poets and musicians. While much Western ambient and pseudospiritual music is made in his name these days, there is still a continuing tradition of respect and creation carried on by Iranian artists, and this CD is a testament to his inspiration. Dastan includes Kayhan Kalhor on setar and kamancheh, Pejman Hadadi on percussion, Hamid Motebassem on setar and tar, and Hossein Behroozi-Nia on barbat. These are all well-respected artists in their own right, which makes Dastan a major ensemble in the Persian music world. But the center of this recording is singer Shahram Nazeri, one of Persian music's great classical singers, whose powerful vocals dominate the music here. Expertly performed and beautifully recorded, Homage rises above the already high standards of these musicians. --Louis Gibson

I respect the opinion of everyone who has taken the time to express their views. This CD is without a doubt a jewel to possess in one's collection, because the artists have struck a brilliant balance between traditional and contemporary Persian music. From start to finish Shahram Nazeri and the masterful musicians perform flawlessly with pure energy and feeling. My suggestion is that you buy this album, turn off all the lights and other distractions in the world and turn up the volume as you take in the love and spiritual high that Mr. Nazeri's voice exudes. Bravo to the Dastan Ensemble. It's a rush...

This is an incredible recording of Shahram Nazeri who has a very personal approach of the Persian classical repertoire. Very refined and subtle. It is a great recording which exceeds all expectations. Highly recommended!

If you are intersted in persian/kurdish music, this CD is a must buy. Shahram Nazeri has one of the best voices in this category. His great voice and the continus Sufi theme in the songs, create a very special recording.

Daf, Tanbur, Vocals.......2003-04-30

These three "simple" components converge on this recording to produce a masterwork of classical persian music. Each track fills the air with jangling strings and Nazeri's haunting vocals.

If you like Persian Poetry sung well in a traditional way, this is for you. If you are looking for something with more than 2 types of instrumentation, I would look elsewhere. This CD is NOT Gher Gher friendly :)

I like it, and listen to it regularly.

This is great music, the the production sounds as if it was recorded in some sub-par studio in some soon-to-be backward Islamic republic. Oh wait, it was!

If you love Persian music, perhaps you'll get beyond the production issues. However, if you like modern, crisp production, much less production that doesn't sound like it dates from 1962, please look for other recordings.
