Ocean of Remembrance: Sufi Improvisations and Zhikrs

Editorial Reviews

Robert Christgau, Village Voice
"Nobody believes I honestly like this Turkish med-school professor cum New Age spell binder until I actually pop in Oceans of Remembrance, in which Oruc and his little trio chant the names of God for an hour of unassuming ecstacy."

Product Description
This CD exemplifies both the aethetic and the consciousness altering qualities of the Sufi musical tradition. Soaring improvisations on the Ney flude, Oud lute, and sacred vocal hymns accompany Zhikrs, which are the trance-inducing, repetitive chanting of God's names. The incomparable intensity and spiritual depth of the music will encourage both contemplative listening and meditation.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful production.......2005-11-03

I have had this CD for at least 7 years and continue to listen to it with regular frequency. It is due to this CD that I continue to browse Amazon for Turkish Zikr and Sufi Music. I've shared it with my family and colleagues all of which admire it greatly. For those interested in Turkish, Sufi Music or New Age World music, I would say this an essential part of your collection.

This CD is a beautiful introduction to Islamic Sufi music. I enjoy playing this CD while driving through the countryside and observing the countless blessings of our Creator.
