Quick: BUY IT! Yeah, I REALLY mean it (and no, I don't work for Amazon)! This is an anthology of one of Brazilian greatest bands and the most succesful outside its country. Here we have all the songs that made their success (ok, ok, this record is from 1990, so they made other hits songs... which granted them more fame - they opened for Brian May in England). Rock, reggae, ska, pop, latin music, brazilian rhythms, everything is in this album. Herbert Vianna is a great musician and a great lyricist and João Barone is Brazil's best drummer. Listen it and have fun!

The very first LP by Brazilian soft-pop band Kid Abelha, from 1984. When they were still Kid Abelha & Os Aboboras Selvagens (literally, Kid Bee & The Wild Pumpkins...), still four (not a trio), and, most of all, when Paula Toller was NOT yet blonde...
A true soundtrack of those times, since ALL the tracks were radio hits between 1984-85. Anyone who was at its twenties by the time will remember - like it or not. :-)

A seminal Brazilian Rock recording, and one of the most fun!.......2006-01-20

One of Brazil's most irreverent bands, This recording has the distinction of being the first brazilian rock recording to become a Platinum album in Brazil, and with good reason: Almost every song on this album is a classic: from the beach crashing anthem "Nos Vamos Invadir Sua Praia", a term which has become part of brazilian national slang, to insightful songs like "Eu me amo" and "Rebelde sem causa" to politicized tunes like "Inutil" and the Reggaeish "Mim quer tocar", Ultraje combine youthful brazilian spunk with wit and pure fun loving rock. The closing track, "Independente Futebol Clube", recorded live in front of a screaming audience is the ultimate in audience participation in a song.

Also worthy of note are the participations of guests Lobao (another well known brazilian rocker) in the title track and the participation of lefty guitar wiz Edgard Scandurra, Later of Ira! fame on another cut. If you're into brazilian rock from the 80's (a socio cultural phenomenon in itself), this recording is essential. Unfortunately, compared to other brazilian bands, Ultraje's releases have been few and far between, which makes the released albums all the more desirable.

This is surely the best rock and roll album ever made in Brazil. And it's not just me saying that, it was recently elected so by over 300 artists and music journalists in Brazil and it has influenced many new rock and roll groups. It's a wonderful buy!

The first time I heard Ed Motta sing, was on television. The name of the show, was called Sounds of Brazil. I was very fortunate to hear, and catch a glimpe of Ed Motta! His voice and style caught my attention immediately! My quest had begun to own any recording of Ed Motta. It just so happens, that this was the first CD that I came across, and I can truly say I made out like a bandit!! This album is exceptional, I have also turned on my friends to Ed Motta through this album. If you want to experience a truly talented artist, you will definitely need to buy this and add it to your collection!! IT IS A MUST HAVE!!!

..eh como as ondas do mar que renovam sem parar.
Edmottamusics I have been enjoying for some time now.
I believe he is one of the most passionate innovators of modern post-80s Brasilian musics(and musics in general..) , and also one of the most underappreciated.
If EM sang in English(and I am certain GLAD he does not!), I am convinced he would be recognized more as a major force in the musics world!

This CD, recently reissued in the great WarnerBrasil series with extra bonus materials was recorded in 1992 , and for my "ears",was an indication of the sound of Ed Motta's future.

(If you have heard his more recent recordings, AND the wonderful sounds he has made on Almir Chediak's tribute recordings on Lumiar Records- example-,you will enjoy a complete musician in every sense .)

You will hear not "imitation", but a musician who is a "fan" of musics, who has worked hard to improve his musicianship through the years,results~ he keeps growing as a composer and performer continually , in my opinion.

This cd encompasses a true "aquarela" of sounds and styles, from funk and jazz,to doowops and even a John Lee Hooker "boogie"(on the incredibly enjoyable "Que tal Londres which mixes musical idioms with free abandon,and it is not even the best track on the cd.").

"1st Division" contributions in ALL the solo work(guitar, piano,vibes,ans saxofone) from "craques" such as Jota Moraes, Lulu Martim, Mario PC, and coproducer "Bombom" add jazz-type credentials that even an elitist jazzman cannot deny-- Bombom in particular adds a flavor of Denny Dias/Jeff Baxter "Steelydaniana" with his crisp and melodic guitar style.

The compsitions owe to ALL of the many influences of EM, por exemplo--some "Isley Brothers" acustic guitar/wah wah guitar ("A Vontade") grooves married to beautiful "jazz" chord voicings on the Fender Rhodes and jazzy/soulful ballads("Noir em Tons Pasteis"), and the previous mentioned Steely Dan influence("Agora Q O Dia Acordou" e "Se Ate as 11")~~ really this just touches the surface....

Every young musician will base his method on the work of some masters ,gradually he adapts his OWN individuality and begins to emerge and adapt a manner of his own.

I think now in 2002, ED Motta is arrived~~ he lovingly caresses the influences of his musical "heroes" ,and has synthesised these sounds into a voice all his own .

I hope you enjoy the disc, and move on to other Edmottiana , both old and new.....

I think EM will be making sweet musics for a long time!
