WOW!!!!.......2006-10-21

This is one hell of an album. The whole thing, from beginning to end, is incredible. Like the first comment above me, I have always loved brazilian music, but this album instigated my obsession.

An excellent first step...or second, or third, or..........2006-05-09

Okay, this wasn't the first Brazilian music for me, but it was the CD that turned my fascination into obsession. It was the Beth Carvalho track that reached out and grabbed me. Exceptional. The Evinha track is awesome too. But I can't complain about anything on here. It's one of those discs you can spin from beginning to end without having to skip a track.

This is a French compilation, and they seem to have the in where Brazilian music is concerned. It's all tasty and toe-tapping, without being repetitive. Highly recommended.

What makes this Brazilian compilation better than many others out there is that all of these cuts are true Brazilian.
Not all of them are fantastic but the idea is well kept throughout the disc.
Some of the highlights of this recording are: Emilio Santiago's Bananeira / Erlon Chaves' version of Roberto Carlos' Jesus Cristo / Mexerico Da Candinha by Legendary Wilson Simonal / Saco de Feijao by Beth Carvalho and Sunny by Eli Goulart.

Well, it must be stated, first and foremost, that Favela Chic is, hands down, one of the coolest, liveliest restaurants in Paris at this point in time. Tragically hip with excellent food and a mind-blowing decor to match that takes religious imagery and throws it into a mixing pot with grass huts, flashing lights and hard liquor. Such an avant-garde combination must be matched by excellent music. And nobody will deny that the Favela has some of the best music (Latino or otherwise)in all of Paris. This compilation takes Brazilian classics, old and new, spanning numerous musical genres (bossa nova, rock, capoeira - if this can be called a musical genre - etc. . .), and serves them up on a disc which perfectly exemplifies the restrained, exhuberant craziness that is Favela Chic. Granted, the music at the restaurant is a bit better (at least the nights I've been) but this isn't far behind. A wonderful album for those who can't hop on the metro to their favorite favela, and even for those who can. If you're looking for a fun, danceable, up-beat album look no further. For those who have been to the Favela, don't hesitate to purchase this album, you won't be sorry. (Note: The inside cover art, a replication of the last supper w/all the employees of Favela Chic, is worth the purchase in and of itself)

a very well built album.......2003-10-15

The first one (Postnove) was nice, but a bit messy. This one (Postnove 2) is very well built, and starting from high-energy pieces, that combine the heat of the South with the wit of the streets, takes you up (at about 2/3 of the album) into emotions ("Eu bebo sim", and very sexy voice of the singer of "Disritmia"), through a walk in the land of laughs ("Tirei O Pau No Gato"), and slowly down again.
The whole album will leave you happy, exhausted, and even maybe with tears (of joy) in the eyes...

Too bad you can't listen to the tracks online, but some are available on www.amazon.fr.
Buy it !
And try and get the next one (Postnove 3), that is coming out in a few days !

Trendy, but a nice set of fairly rare material.......2003-01-10

This series was assembled by the DJs at a hip Parisian nightclub , where it's said to be all the rage. This volume opens with several well-selected 70s rock and soul numbers, by the likes of Trio Ternura, Rita Lee and Toni Tornado; it moves into more modern remix tracks from labels such as Trama and Natasha, and then alternates back and forth between classic tropicalia and contemporary novo-tronica. It's not bad!
