Some music is celebrated for its elegant subtlety; Pink's slams you over the head. Four albums in, she's not changing her formula. I'm Not Dead touches on bulimia ("Stupid Girls"), war-mongering politicians ("Dear Mr. President"), teen angst ("Conversations With My 13 Year Old Self," "Runaway"), overheated pickup artists ("U + Ur Hand"), and gross materialism ("I Got Money Now"). None of it, in other words, is for featherweight listeners. Then again, none of it suits eggheaded college tastemakers either. Where this translates, then, is with those willing to man up and embrace what makes Pink Pink: her spellbinding ability to render rebelliousness in all the many colors of the rainbow. Neil Young-inspired acoustic guitar is sketched into "The One That Got Away," but it's just as quickly scribbled over by Joan Jett-style ranting (on "Long Way to Happy") and Janis Joplin/Joss Stone-fueled howling (on "Who Knew"). Even R&B gets its turn ("I Got Money Now"). The album also includes appearances from the Indigo Girls, who duet on "Dear Mr. President," and Pink's father, who joins for the hidden track "I Have Seen The Rain." Pink pulls all of this off, and probably without even breathing hard. She's not dead. --Tammy La Gorce

I'd like to add that not only is this album awesome, but I finally found out that Pink is an incredible vocalist and performer. Based on that, I ended up buying Misunduztood and there are several songs on that album I loved as well. I just wish I had noticed Pink long before this! Buy the album, you won't be disappointed!

There's a rule in commercial pop: don't bite the hand that feeds you. Translation? If you're getting love on TRL, it's best leaving well enough alone and tinkering only slightly with the sound that pays your bills. So you have to give Pink a whole heap of credit. The Philly-raised songbird may have made her rep with infectious and rugged pop-R&B hits like "There You Go" and the remake of "Lady Marmalade," but like the fuchsia coif she once sported, that sound is gone. In its place is a more driving alt-rock attack, liberally laced with some late-night blues and heartfelt lyrics that, while they sometimes come off like diary entries (the simplistic bon mot "Your pain is painful" in "Family Portrait"), are clearly Pink's thoughts, as opposed to words someone put in her mouth. Helping Pink express her inner Alanis are Dallas Austin, who produced the insistent rocker "18 Wheeler," and former 4 Non Blonde Linda Perry, who Pink has resurrected from one-hit-wonder status. Mixing up thumping beats, ("Get the Party Started"), with folksy confessionals, Pink's potent vocals and her honest determination make this a risk worth hearing. --Amy LindenAlbum Description

At a time when experimentation is taboo in most overground rap, that's all Outkast seem intent on executing. Firstly, this double CD has no cohesive link, other than the fact that it sounds like a pair of solo albums stitched together to demo exactly how Andre's yin works to augment Big Boi's yang. Andre 3000's Love Below disc rates as the more eclectic of the two, given that he's turned in his emcee credentials to become a full-on funk-soul-jazz vocalist who mostly sings about items of love ("Happy Valentine's Day"), carnal lust ("Spread"), and female adoration ("Prototype"). Minus the big band schmaltz of "Love Hater" and cheesy cover jobs ("My Favorite Things"), Andre's disc is sick (meaning great). As is to be expected, the Big Boi disc is less arty, more gangsta and worldly, and features the less-progressive guest raps of ATL crunk purveyors Lil' Jon and The Eastside Boyz ("Last Call") and Jay-Z who rhymes the hook on "Flip Flop Rock". Unlike Big Boi, Andre keeps his collabos to a minimum, once crooning alongside Norah Jones on the cool yet sappy "Take Off Your Cool", and once with Kelis. Boi fulfills his Dungeon Family duty with flying colors by flipping some dirty southern up-tempo raps over electro beats on "GhettoMusick". By the time Cee-Lo sermonizes on "Reset", Speakerboxx and Love Below rate mostly as majestic and inspiring, with the remaining 23 per cent being just plain incredible --Dalton HigginsCustomer Reviews:

Best Album Ever!!!.......2007-04-13
P.S. It took me four years to get to writing this review. But I wanted to make sure I did these albums justice and listened enough to know every nook and cranny(although every time I listen I hear something new) and I also make sure I described it as best as I could. Although I could describe it a million times better, I needed to get this up already.
3 stars for tlb ;; 5 for speakerboxxx.......2006-12-21
Rap isn't what it used to be, but these two will continue to carry it a long way.......2006-10-23
The best Outkast's Album.......2006-08-28
According to me, this double album is their best, even better than Atliens, their second album, which was my favourite before I hear Speakerboxxx / The Love Below.
The strength of this double album is the diversity in music style : hip hop, rnb, jazzy, soul... The overall quality of "The Love Below" sounds higher to me, but Speakerboxxx features some masterpieces like "The Way You Move", "The Rooster", "Flip Flop Rock"...

A CD is always more compelling when you know it's lifted from the artist's autobiography, and that's certainly the case with Confession, Usher's first record since 2001's 8701. The Atlanta singer's string of hits over the past decade have been decidedly PG-13 rated, almost veering towards teen pop, but he's changed all that on this co-produced offering, which he claims is "the real him." It would be too simplistic to just brand this record a break-up record, chronicling his public split with TLC's Rozonda "Chili" Thomas; it is that, but so much more. It would be more accurate to call this Usher's coming of age record, bridging the gap from boy to man, as he navigates the emotional fallout from the disintegration of his relationship, and the events that led up to it--real or imagined. But other than a guilty conscience, it seems unclear why Usher feels compelled to disgorge his secret life, as he documents his infidelities, transgressions, and emotional perfidy in the album's prodigious twenty one songs, that range from insinuating sultry R&B grooves to the decidedly crunky "Yeah," which pairs an insistent keyboard romp with Lil' Jon's assertive beats, and Ludacris' rather humid rhymes. --Jaan UhelszkiAlbum Description

Classic CD from R&B superstar.......2006-12-14
1. Intro - Speaks for itself
2. Yeah ! - What Can I say no matter what this is always going to a club song even though I prefer the ATL remix.
3. Throwback - I never really cared for this song and Just Blaze gives us a horrible beat.
4. Confessions Part 1 - I first heard this one the import version of Confessions and I thought it was better than the sequel. Originally JD & Usher had planned to make the song ten minutes.
5. Confessions Part 2 - Nice Up-tempo although I prefer Part 1 because the beat is slower
6. Burn - The second single released back in 2004, it had to grow on me as Usher was singing poppy and not soulful.
7. Caught Up - One of the songs I gave a second listen to I really like this one
8. Superstar Interlude - Nice little intro leading up to one of the ballads on the CD.
9. Superstar - One of my favorite songs on the CD and a mix tape favorite.
10. Truth Hurts - Catchy song
11. Simple Things - Another Jam & Lewis wonder. Usher really needs to work with them so more of his next CD.
12. Bad Girl - After the concert this song kind of grew on me
13. That's What's It Made For - A bangin slow track that always works for me
14. Can U Handle It - Usher's bedroom track and my favorite song on the CD
15. Do It To Me - Usher's tries to give a tribute to Prince and doesn't fail completely.
16. Take Ya Hand - A popish song but not a bad listen it also grew on me.
17. Follow Me - The final Jam & Lewis track I really started to like this song and the beat by Dre & Vidal is some of their best work.
18. My Boo - I hated this song and I think that Alicia was the wrong choice to duet with
19. Red Light - Usher & Lil Jon reunite for another club banger.
20. Seduction - My second favorite song from the CD, Jam & Lewis always work wonders with this quiet storm slow jam.
21. Confessions Part II remix, with Shyne/Twista/Kanye West- It's all right nothing special.
Rare B-Sides
Usher recorded up to eighty songs and some of them have appeared on various mix tapes and soundtracks.
1. Doin The Most - A lovely ballad produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis that is reminds the listener of Ralph Tresvant's Sensitivity. This is one of the songs Usher should have kept on the CD as it's very soulful.
2. DOT COM - A very sexual song written and produced by Robin Thicke. This is another song that would fit perfect with the other sexual songs on the CD.
3. It Is What It Is - A kind of mid-tempo JD produced ditty, nothing to special and I'm glad they cut it.
4. Whatever I Want - Rich Harrison produced this one with it's blaring horns and catchy beat.
5. Ride - Another track co-written and produced by Rich Harrison, the song was later turned into Get Right for J-Lo.
6. Wifey feat. Pharell - A hot mid-tempo song in the vein of Excuse Me Miss by Jay-Z produced by The Neptune's.
7. Sweet Lies - Another Neptune's Gem that was supposed to appear on The Neptune's Clones Album.
A great album by a great artist.......2006-12-04

If You Haven't Got This Yet...GET IT!.......2006-11-18
With the help of Jermaine Dupri, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Lil' Jon, Rich Harrison, Bryan Michael Cox and a bunch of others on the production board, as well as a few guest spots (Jadakiss, Ludacris, etc.), Usher has crafted his best album to date, mainly mixing sensual slow jams with smooth mid-tempo grooves and catchy upbeat numbers. Without a doubt, "Yeah", the Crunk'n'B club-banging classic featuring Lil' Jon's Crunk production and Ludacris' witty 16 bars, is one of the best tracks on the album, but this album is a lot more personal and honest (and self-indulgent) than such a track might suggest.
The best example of the aforementioned fact would be "Confessions Part II", where Usher regretfully confesses to his leading lady about his infidelities and unintentionally impregnating another woman over Jermaine Dupri's piano keys and catchy guitar string loop. Although Jermaine Dupri provides less appealing production on the preceding "Confessions", Usher's emotional vocal delivery and honest lyrics are just as profound; ditto for the Jam & Lewis-produced "Simple Things", an amazing ballad which boasts a killer chorus and downright-brilliant lyrics about giving a girl less materialistic offerings and more emotional attention. On the soulful, smooth "Truth Hurts", Usher sends his paranoid ode to his woman about her infidelities, right before adding a twist to the end in the lyrics and admitting that his "guilty conscience is the real reason [he] wrote this song".
Even when the songs take a more universal turn on the album's other songs, the results are still amazing. On second single "Burn", Usher's voice remains emotional, smooth and soulful while he sings about letting go of a bad relationship over Jermaine Dupri's solid groove. Just Blaze's electric guitars (or wah-wah...can't tell) and rapper/songwriter/Usher's protégé Rico Love's progressively brilliant lyrics fuel Usher's emotional hurt on album highlight "Throwback", and the guitar-driven slow jam "Superstar" is the type of song that'll simultaneously pseudo-seduce female Usher fans and cause male listeners into rolling their eyes in mildly jealous boredom. "My Boo", a soulful duet ballad with R&B/Soul extraordinaire Alicia Keys, is definitely the best track on the album - the type of song that resonates with listeners of all ages and takes you back to the good puppy-love times of one's youth.
Apart from the album's lack of up-tempo material ("Caught Up", "Follow Me" and "Red Light -another Lil-Jon-produced club concoction- is as close as you'll get), this album does have some flaws, which (ironically) come around when he gets sexual. "Can U Handle It" falters with its dull production, weak lyrics and Usher's disappointing vocal performance.
"That's What It's Made For", with its heavily hypnotic guitar/flute groove, is perfect listening when you're "in the mood" (for lack of a less sleazy or explicit phrase), but some people might be displeased with a few things - the lyrics, the fact that it's a sex song, Usher's sense of egotism and the fake orgasms and surrendering come-ons of an infatuated/sexed-up/possibly drunk or stoned female. "Seduction", as predictable as its title suggests, works just fine with usher's melodically smooth vocals and Jam & Lewis' smooth production. What's most surprising about the track is Usher's unexpected rap towards the end, which isn't too bad, despite the fact that the lyrics are (once again) sexual. Nonetheless, I consider that song an actual highlight.
Altogether, a great album, Usher's best to date, GO BUY IT! 5 STARS!
Yes, I know I mentioned that there was some filler, which should mean Usher should not get his full marks. However, this is the album that turned me to R&B in all its forms - Pop, Soul, Rock, etc. Not only that, but the few weak tracks this CD are easily compensated for with all the other tracks, which usually range from great to stellar. Therefore, I refuse to give my favourite album less recognition than it deserves.

The contrivance level is high on this debut by an R&B singer named for her out-of-bottle hair color. La Face Records' latest female discovery is positioned midway between mainstream hip-hop soul and poor imitations of Kelis-style anger. Producer-writer She'kspere brings out his trademark machine beats for "There You Go," a pale copy of "You Oughta Know"; still, that single's more artful than "Split Personality," which clumsily attempts to acknowledge three-dimensional human reality but really sounds like a fit of whining until Pink unleashes the inevitable melisma over the song's coda. Elsewhere, she makes nice on standard-issue ballads ("Stop Falling") and lite-reggae proclamations of love ("Private Show"). "I just wanna make you feel things," Pink sings at one point. Unfortunately, the emotion the cynical Can't Take Me Home inspires most is annoyance. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:

First of all, i was prepared for hear some r&b stuff but i was really suprised with this album.
I'm not a r&b fan, i'm a pop fan but pink makes something special with this rythms... she demostrates once more that she rocks for real!
Okay, but nothing special.......2006-11-10
Can't Take Me Home .......2006-09-06
After a few listens, I am decidedly underwhelmed by the disc mainly because Pink's voice is unrecognizable on most tracks and also to me there are no real stand out tracks. The only tracks I enjoyed listening to are:
HELL WIT YA - love her quick almost talking vocals a la Beyonce
MOST GIRLS - although the lyrics are monotonous, Pink sounds fantastic along with the interesting beats
LET ME LET YOU KNOW - beautiful ballad
LOVE IS SUCH A CRAZY THING - honestly, the music production & background harmonies are more interesting than Pink's solo vocals
STOP FALLING - very pretty ballad that showcases her voice
I really wouldn't recommend this disc because it's pretty generic "hip pop" with no truly standout songs unless you're really curious about Pink's debut to the music world (and can get the disc real cheap).

While detractors may grouse that Pink's third album doesn't have a dance floor anthem on it like the incendiary "Get The Party Started" from 2001's Missundaztood, some prefer their Pink straight up and damn the paper drink umbrellas and crepe paper. She's at her very best raiding her own troubled autobiography for inspiration, spitting out vituperrious vocal epitaphs like seeds from a ripe watermelon instead of the angst-ridden confessional romp she took through Missundaztood. Maybe she's worked all that out on a psychiatrist's couch, because this time out her anger is much more arch and entertaining; likely due to her pairing with Rancid's Tim Armstrong, who co-wrote and produced most of the disc and certainly knows the value of turning rage into a well-crafted musical punch line. As unlikely as the collaboration looked on paper, it works perfectly because the Pennsylvania native has always brandished a punk sneer beneath the corsets, gaudy hair color, and naughty girl demeanor. Armstrong and his Rancid cohorts (Lars Frederiksen and Matt Freeman) inject feral rock action into the disc with their truncated guitar sounds and trash can drumming and provide a perfect foil for Pink's foul-mouth rants and backstage laments like "Last To Know." But Pink hasn't shaved her spiky coiffure into a Mohawk. She still smolders on a soulful ballad like "Catch Me While I'm Sleeping" or trades vitriol with raps' redoubtable sex kitten, Peaches. --Jaan UhelszkiCustomer Reviews:

It Was Worth The Trouble.......2007-02-04
The album artwork is also worth mentioning and leaves no doubt as to the direction that Pink wanted to go with the album. The front and back covers and the inside booklet contain beautiful photographs (both in black and white and in color) of Pink in a variety of different cabaret-inspired costumes. Her poses and expressions range from sultry to menacing.
It is easy to see that this album was not meant to be a rehash of "Missundaztood," nor is it an attempt to go completely rock. It is somewhere in the middle. Regardless of how one feels about pop singers making rock music, rock singers making pop music, or everyone making dance music, at least we can all be thankful that all of the rap and hip-hop guest singers had other things to do when this album was recorded, for they are present nowhere on it, and that may be the biggest surprise of all.

Trouble: 8.5/10 Great song, great single, and the best song to start off the CD.
God is a DJ: 8/10 Good, not great. Good dance track though.
Last to Know: 9.5/10 You want angry? You got angry.
Oh my God: 9/10 Fun song, good guitars.
Catch me While I'm Sleeping: 5/10 Ugh. It's slow, and not even a good slow song.
Waiting for Love: 10/10 Awesome. Sounds like a song Suzanne Vega would do.
Save my Life: 8.5/10 Happy-sounding song, and another dance song.
Try Too Hard: 7.5/10 Has potential, but fails to get it.
Humble Neighborhoods: 9/10 Great, and fun to sing along to.
Walk Away: 9/10 Awesome song, but isn't as catchy as some others on here.
Unwind: 9.5/10 The trumpets make the song.
Love Song: 3/10 Compared to Catch me, Catch me is a 9/10. Only reason to listen to it is...
Hooker (hidden track): 10/10 Second-best song, and especially a better angry song than Last to Know.
Overall, a buy. Only two songs are weak, but they're WEAK. Nothing holding them up. But if you like the singles, get it. If you like any of Pink's other material, buy it.

Breathing Again.......2007-02-20
The 2007 Essential Toni Braxton, is a double-album reflecting her highs and lows, and why her voice has remained relevant in R&B after all this time. This is a compilation that does a very good job reflecting her era from LaFace and Arista throughout the 90's and early 2000's. There are a lot of great tracks here that are highlighted including the #1 smash Un-Break My Heart, Breathe Again, the seductive You're Makin' Me High, the soulful and elquent How Could An Angel Break My Heart, and He Wasn't Man Enough. The compilation also includes a couple of new tracks as well like Good Life, a track that Toni original released as a demo with her sisters, The Braxtons back in 1990, as well as The Time Of Our Lives, a song she recorded for the 2006 World Cup. Yet, although there are numerous highlights here, there are a couple of disadvantages here on this hits compilation. The first disadvantage is that there are several tracks here that were remixed instead of their original versions like How Many Ways, and the seductive Diane Warren penned Spanish Guitar. The other surprise is that the album also overlooks a few good tracks like her last hit Please from her 2005 record Libra.
All in all, The Essential Toni Braxton still remains as a solid hits package that will bring out not just die hard fans, but also newcomers how haven't yet heard her beautiful songs. Even though a lot of people aren't as interested in her, I still find her voice lovely, and I think this hits package does go a long way, and it is why love has brought her home.

2 for 1...you can not beat that!.......2007-05-30
I have to give credit to Kenny as well. I have to admit, I was not a fan until they did their first album together. I actually got married off of "When I say I do" from that album and he brings a lot the CD as well. This is a must listen to CD, especially when you are with that special someone.

I have been looking for this CD for over a year and yes it was worth the wait. I like the 2-CD deal addressing two very different topics, perfect fit for the CD title.

Amazing Talent and Creativity on this CD!.......2006-07-19
Now as you read this review, consider that I am a super-conservative Republican who supports George W. Bush and his administration, and that I am not judging this CD by the political slam against the president on track #5. The greatest thing about this country is that we can state our political opinions through any medium we choose. I don't care if Pink is a communist, which I'm sure she's not, she is a star, a musical genius, and has that scratchy, strong, and yet somehow soft voice that really causes an addiction.
Let's look at the tracks one-by-one:
1. Stupid Girls - Here is a song that says a lot about society. I know she is just having fun on this song, but I think she is on to something. The lyrics are funny and of course, as I have mentioned earlier about Pink's work, very addictive. I don't think this is the best song on the CD, but it is a good start.
2. Who Knew - By far the coolest song on the CD. Pink really delivers a song that describes the heartache and pain that comes from young and faulting love. The beat is catchy, the lyrics so life-like that almost every human being on the planet should be able to relate to this heartbreak story in a song. The CD is worth the cost just for this song. Pink is indeed a musical force that requires attention and recognition!
3. Long Way To Happy - Deep lyrics with Pink showing her musical range by stretching her voice up and down the chart on this one. It is weird how much emotion and strength she puts into this song about struggling to get back on her feet. This fast to slow to right back to fast Track #3 is a must hear - many times.
4. Nobody Knows - Okay, I'm not really a fan of slow songs, so when this song first came on, I almost skipped the song. But I gave it a chance, and the longer it played, the more I enjoyed hearing Pink say "baby." She says it really well! LOL
5. Dear Mr. President - Ummm...seeing how I am a supporter of the president, I was not happy about Pink and the Indigo Girls blaming Bush for homelessness, hunger, and bad education. Pink and IG, I am sure the President sleeps just fine. In the same way that you believe in what you do, George W. Bush believes in what he is doing. But I can't complain too much, after all, it is our freedom to say what we want about our leaders that makes this country great.
6. I'm Not Dead Yet - An awesome entry that grabs the listener right into the song. I'm not really sure what in the heck Pink is talking about on this one, but she sure keeps it fast and interesting. All I really know is that Pink is DEFINITELY not dead yet! Of this I'm sure.
7. Cuz I Can - Fun, fun, and when that's done, more fun. Wow, I can't get enough of this song. "You talk real loud, but you ain't sayin' nothing cool. I can fit your whole house in my swimming pool." I love that. I haven't seen the music video (if there is one) yet, but I bet it would be hilarious. Pink will make ya smile on this one!
8. Leave Me Alone - Hey, it's a Lita Ford song, but with talent. I don't remember the song Lita Ford sang that started off like this one, but that's only the first few seconds. This song shows another side of Pink that really delivers. I have the cleaned up version of this song. I really don't know why Pink throws profanity in her work. She is so talented she sure doesn't need it for SHOCK value. Her talent is SHOCKING enough.
9. U & Ur Hand - Funky little tune about how Pink doesn't need any hassles. Well, you'll see what I mean. I think ole' boy better back off.
10. Runaway - a song about, you guessed it, running away. This starts off like Pink telling a story with a little bit of background music, then it takes off a little. The lyrics and music in this song are unpredictable and prove that PINK truly thinks about her work and doesn't just throw things together to complete a CD.
11. The One That Got Away - Bluesy, scratchy, and a song that I would love to hear Pink sing in a small venue. I cannot say enough good things about this song. I like it better than Sheryl Crow's stuff. I know Pink will think that's a stretch, but this is my review!
12. I Got Money Now - Wow, read the lyrics, listen to the sincerity in this song. I kinda' wish she could change this song to "I Got Jesus Now". Yeah, it's my dream that PINK becomes a Christian music star.
13. Conversations With My 13 Year Old Self - A moving song about the child we used to be, and what it would be like to have a chance to go back and talk to that child; to be a comfort to the pain and the worry that controlled our lives. This is a tribute to Pink's amazing talent and hard work.
14. I Have Seen The Rain - Pink sings a song about the Vietnam War with her dad. It is a great way to end the CD. I can only imagine that Jim Moore (Pink's dad) is so very proud of his daughter. She is an amazing artist.
See ya next review.
