Finally, a recording I can sing along with!.......2006-11-04

As a low bass and wannabe octavist, I really enjoy singing along with this recording. Luckily, I have performed the Rachmaninov "All Night Vigil", Tchaikovshy "Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom", and other works in Old Church Slavonic, so the words are mostly familiar.

I still find it amazing that these singers can make notes in the midrange still sound low! Enjoy!

Great CD.......2003-03-02

I have done a good bit of research on basso profundo's, contrabasses, etc and these guys seem to be lower than any I've heard. The soloist on "Do Not Reject Me In My Old Age" has a full voiced G1, below low bass C which he hits a number of times on the CD. Very amazing recording... good musically, not the VERY best choir I've ever heard or anything, but definetly good. Russian music is great, many of the tracks are very dark musically, but there are some more majestic tracks, and a few tracks that sound kinda militaristic.

Interested in visiting your favorite contestants from the second season of American Idol? Then this is the album for you, but be forewarned that something is lost in the translation from the small screen to the compact disc. Simon Cowell's scathing comments and Paula Abdul's head tossing add to the human drama; without those visual embellishments, the recorded version falls flat. Sure this is a talented bunch, but the material is mundane, with few of the finalists straying from the traditional arrangements. But when they do, it's sometimes worse. Ruben Stoddard's rendition of the Carpenters hit "Superstar" reeks of misplaced sincerity. The best cut on the disc is Kimberly Caldwell's throaty cover of Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly With His Song," which gives the song some well-needed grit. And while Julia Demato's voice is no match for Etta James's full-bodied version of "At Last," Demato gives the classic a fetching kittenish spin. --Jaan Uhelszki

THE BEST TALENT!!! some bad song selects............2007-06-29

Season 2 of american idol (in my opinion) had the best talent. the biggest voices and broke all stereotypes. although some people had there choice to win the finale (i really wanted kimberley locke to win), i thought they ended by pickin the right person. the previous season had there 'best' performances but this season did the opposite and decided to do love songs... honestly they should have did a greatest hits LP because i could name quite a few BRILLIANT performances by at least 5 of the contestants.

hands down the best track on the album is 'superstar' by ruben studdard. he channeled luther vandross sooooo amazingly that luther would be proud. 'killing me softley' my kim caldwell was awesome as well. she defiinatly brought the blue eyed soul on this track.

clay aiken, trenyce, charles grigsby, and carmen did great jobs on there songs as well....

now the bad.... i love kimberley locke and she did an brilliant job on 'somewhere over the rainbow', BUT the cd is called LOVE SONGS and that is not a love song at all. rickey is a great voice but his version of 'back to one' sounded EXACTLY like brian mcknight. josh gracin (was not my favourite) did a HORRIBLE job on this song... they should have gave him a country song to sing.

the class of season 2 will still be my favourite voices but i just wish they picked better songs for this cd.

All Time Classic Love Songs...Ruined.......2006-07-18

Seriously, this CD is BAD. The only song that I can say is any good is Ruben Studdard's rendition of Superstar. And if you like that song, go buy Ruben's album, because this is not worth your money. The only reason I can see anyone buying this album, is if you are just into collecting AI merch. Other than than, SKIP THIS ONE.

As a professional singer and Voice Teacher, I am so thrilled to see how American Idol has given the art of singing such a jump start in these last few years.

These American Idol CDs and programs are filled with so much varying talents. From Hard rock to Country, America is becoming interested in identifying true talent. As an Opera Singer myself I can still enjoy the gifts of other genres and am sad to hear when others look down upon the show. Also, as a voice teacher of many styles I can't stress enough the need to my own students for them to develop themselves as a "Complete Unique Package". Finding their own true niche and style including: voice type, genre, best repertoire, to the the right audition outfit. American Idol teaches the same theories. Be true to yourself and your voice to get your best shot at this business of singing. I am an advocat for AI and all shows that encourage the high developement of arts in America. We come from a society that watched sports religiously on telievision (which is great) but there are so many talents to support including singing out there amongst us. American Idol gives artists and viewers a fantastic opportunity.

The Blenders are the Kings of Christmas!.......2007-05-17

The Blenders are great at what they do, and they are best at singing A Capella, and Christmas music is their forte. They have put out four Christmas CDs, one of which is a greatest hits type of CD of their Christmas music (Holiday Best). We have the other three CDs including this one, which are all great Christmas music. We have been known to listen to these CDs even when it isn't Christmas. They have great arrangements and cover traditional Christmas music as well as having some nice originals and lesser known Christmas songs. There are no repeats of songs between the three CDs which include Nog (which has also been released under the name Christmas A Capella style with the Blenders) When It Snows, and Most Wonderful Time. These three are our all time favorite Christmas CDs.

This is the 4th of The Blenders Christmas offerings (the 3rd being a composite of songs from the 1st 2 recordings) and it does not disappoint. The a cappella version of "I Wonder as I Wander" moved me to tears. Don't let the "a cappella" label fool you--this is like no a cappella you've ever heard. Percussion aside, these arrangements are so rich that you'd SWEAR there is instrumentation, and their execution is flawless! Very contemporary--something for everyone. None of my Christmas recordings sees as much play as my Blenders cd's. You'll want them all in your collection!

Another great trip down the MFU memory lane.......2005-10-19

Volume 2 (comprised of 2 CDs) is another first rate compilation of the series' original music and not to be missed by U.N.C.L.E. fans. The liner notes are wonderful and add a lot to ones appreciation of the music.

My only problem is that THE CDs ARE COPY PROTECTED! Considerable work is needed to get the music onto your iPod, if you really want the music in your mp3 collection. This is a major hassle and a surprise, since the first set in the series was not copy protected.

The best of the three Double CDs ORIGINAL soundtrack release.......2005-07-12

Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.

Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.

And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.

Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.

This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.

Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.

So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

Customer Reviews: Time of the season for love.......2007-05-22 The Zombies were the most underrated of the British invasion bands -- their heydey meant lots of harmonized, sundrenched psychpop. And they reached their musical peak in their last collaboration -- the glorious "Odessey & Oracle," now a psychedelic classic. As the album is rereleased, newbies can get to know them through the "Time of the Season" single, which collects two of their most enchanting (and best known) songs together. It opens with a slow, sensual beat and languorous melodies, sprinkled with soft sighs and ripples of colourful organ. "It's the time of the season/When the love runs high /In this time, give it to me easy/And let me try/With pleasured hands," Colin Blunstone murmurs smoothly. He continues over a sputter of electric guitar, "To take you and the sun to/Promised lands," only to join a soaring chorale, "To show you every one/It's the TIME... of the seeaaaason... for loving!" Then it switches back to the shimmering, sensual, slightly jazzy sound of the first part of the song, with the occasional colourful keyboard solo. The song that follows is just as mellow and sunny, but much catchier and more expansive. A cluster of guitars and rattling drums are swamped under waves of piano. Gives it a nice chamberpop feel. And Blunstone sings adoringly of someone who loved him and had faith in him, and "now darkness has gone/and this will be our year/took a long time to come..." The Zombies made a lot of brilliant psychpop, but these two songs are among their best known. They're also thoroughly good examples of their music, showing them at their most mellow and enchanting -- it's like eavesdropping on an idyllic picnic in a flowered meadow. Maybe with a bit of acid thrown in. Part of this comes from the music. The Zombies took your basic rock instruments -- guitar, bass and drums -- and blended them into a smooth little pop melody, wound with colourful synth, shimmering Melltron and swirls of piano. It's music to get mellow to, but it also has an innocent, simple sweetness that you don't find in most pop now. Blunstone's voice fits the instrumentals perfectly -- he sounds smooth and buoyant, especially with the beautifully harmonized backing vocals. So he also fits the lyrics, both the love song and the hippie anthem: "Tell it to me slowly/Tell you what?/I really want to know/It's the time of the season for loving!" he croons with his bandmates. The "Time of the Season" single highlights two of the Zombies' best songs, and it's also a good listen for those just getting acquainted with this brilliant, enchanting band. Beautiful.......2005-08-18 I first heard Gunnar Madsen on Sex and the City. I couldn't figure out what song it was, but I would play it over and over with Carrie's voice over and everything. Then I figured out it was "Anna" and a moment later bought this CD. It is better than I expected, only having heard "Anna." I play this CD all the time. It is perfect for when I'm reading, driving, cooking, doing anything. It's fabulous! I just got this CD on a lark, and I love it.......2004-12-05 This CD is amazing, It is my favorite music to cook to, and I am a great cook. Wonderful. I am buying one for my mom now. The songs all have a great, upbeat sound and really help add to the festivities of the season!! The vocal piece with Robert Robinson, 'Let There Be Peace on Earth' is beautiful and one of my favorites. If you want to buy an AMAZING christmas album, it should be this one! Lorie Line does it again !.......2002-12-25 This Lorie Line CD is FANTASTIC. Even though more "pop chamber orchestra" is used in these recordings, her distinctive piano style is very evident. She continues to be a great musician and arrainger. I feel this upbeat cd will put you in the most festive of holiday moods. This is the best Christmas album of the year! Where's the piano?.......2002-12-02 I remember when Lori Line played at Dayton's and was just getting her career started. She played beautifully. Line should stick with the type of music that made her popular. Her pop orchestra drowns her playing out, and all the other "extras" in this CD are too distracting.
