Sacred Movement: White Swan Yoga Masters, Vol. 1

About the Artist
Max Strom teaches yoga as a system of personal transformation, and is known for inspiring and impacting the lives of his pupils. Over 400 students a week come to learn his unique Vinyasa-style yoga, which integrates methods from several yoga systems as well as chi gung. His rigorous and flowing classes purify and realign the body, while cultivating a feeling of deep inner peace. His philosophical insights are informed by years of studying sacred texts and the teachings found within us all.

With an imperative to understand life’s meaning, Max Strom had, by the young age of 19, studied Taoism, esoteric Christianity and Sufism, and was practicing meditation and Chi Gung diligently. Over the next 12 years, his passion for music and writing gradually eclipsed his spiritual quest and he became immersed in two careers, first in music as a singer-songwriter, and then in film as a working screenwriter. Max’s spiritual quest was re-ignited when he was introduced to Hatha Yoga. The practice affected him so deeply that it ultimately became a "system of embodiment" for all of his studies. A Yoga devotee since 1991, Max has experienced a profound life-change through his practice.

Max Strom is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists and was on the faculty of the 2003 Yoga Journal conference in Los Angeles. He has published several articles on yoga and personal transformation.

Product Description
Over 20 million Americans make yoga a regular part of their daily routine. Thousands of teachers throughout the US are introducing students from all walks of life to the clear-minded vitality and vigor that a regular yoga practice offers. For many, music plays a key role in this yogic experience.

SACRED MOVEMENT is the first in a series of music CDs sequenced specifically for yoga practice. Master yoga instructor Max Strom designed the program to "help lead people into their practice," and selected music that he uses in his Flow Yoga classes at Sacred Movement Yoga Center in Los Angeles.

Just like Max’s yoga sessions, SACRED MOVEMENT begins with a diverse and energetic progression of songs from Hamza El Din, Prem Joshua, Thomas Barquee, Stellamara and others. As the yoga sequence winds down, tracks by B-Tribe, Bruce BecVar and dj Cheb i Sabbah create an ethereal ambience, leading the practitioner into a nurturing state of relaxation.

Max Strom believes that "yoga was designed to revolutionize our lives" spiritually as well as physically. SACRED MOVEMENT then is not just a "music for yoga" CD. It is a set of deep, reflective music especially selected by a master teacher to assist with this healthful transformation.

5 out of 5 stars Walks the talk.......2004-10-12

I have been practicing flow yoga for many years, but I never found one cd that could take me from warm up through more vigorous poses and finally to a meditative finish until this one. Usually, I have to change cd's or cuts on a cd to fit the rhythm of my practice, but Max has found the perfect order of music selections to accompany my practice. His choice of musicians is inspired; they are all based in spiritual disciplines themselves. So their music reflects the inner spirit while bathing the body and mind in the glow of their magical sounds. This cd is seamless - from the "flow" of the tempos to the congruency of musician and music. I highly recommend this carefully choreographed anthology of celestial sounds of theology. Yoga means "to link up with the Divine," and the music on this cd does just that.
