Product Description
From a Scottish popular folk group with great instrumental and vocal arrangements, Lochanside is a collection of traditional and contemporary folk songs. Title track features vocals set to the traditional bagpipe tune of the same name!
There are plenty of bands out there who are trying to do something a little different with the music, digging deeply into Celtic traditions for source material only to add electric guitars and drum kits to the arrangement, blend a little jazz into the mix or otherwise reinvent the music for a modern audience. And I like that stuff, really I do. But sometimes I want to hear traditional music the way it was meant to be presented, the way it's been performed by generations of musicians who wanted to honor, not alter, their musical roots. Lochanside is an album like that. These three musicians from Scotland is quite comfortable in their own skins, playing and singing with plenty of polish and enthusiasm, but they're content to play their acoustic instruments and sing without undue embellishment. And let me tell you, after sifting through a dozen or so Celtic rock albums, it's refreshing.
That doesn't mean they do it exactly as their fathers and grandfathers did before them. The band's arrangements put an NSG stamp on the music, but it's the sort of thing you'd be as pleased to find in the corner of a pub as you would on-stage.

Pro Organo has issued a stunning CD of wedding music suggestions not just for one denomination, but for Jewish, African, Japanese, Gaelic, Scottish, and those wanting something a little original and fresh. Recorded in the canyonlike Cathedral of St. John the Divine of New York City (before the disastrous fire of 2001 which caused a lot of destruction), organist Dorothy Papadakos, and visiting musicians, have offered "spectacular" collection of organ and brass favorites, as well as some surprising discoveries. It's sonically thrilling, and, as a disc for just listening, I highly recommend it. There are enough pieces that we all know, such as Widor's "Fifth Organ Symphony 'Toccata'" and Gigout's "Grand Chorus in Dialogue" with sprinkles of world music played in a Cathedral known for its diverse musical contents. But Pro Organo and organist Papadakos have uncovered works for klezmer, shakuhachi, bagpipes, voice, and unusual instrumentation to give this disc an entirely different approach to wedding music.
You LOVE it, especially those of you who enjoy trying new recipes, wines, and concert fare. So far, it is one of my very favorite discs. I guess so...I bought two copies! WOW!!
