If you love Jazz..........2004-12-19

I wish I was a prolific writer because my words cannot discribe how great this CD is. I listen to it over and over again and I never tire of it. Trust me, you will love it too. I cannot go into the technical aspects like some people can, I just know good music when I hear it, and this is GREAT music!

Entirely enjoyable.......2003-11-20

A contemporary keyboardist with credits encompassing the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, and Chaka Kahn mainly playing acoustic piano; a brilliant bassist who's graced uncounted jazz sessions who "can play an acoustic bass and make it sound like an electric bass" (according to the liner notes--this is a virtue??); and a Hip-Hop drummer "who can also play jazz" (again, from the liner notes).

Can this possibly work?

Yes. And very satisfactorily, thank you.

It may offend the jazz police (too groove-oriented). It may resonate with the smooth jazz crowd (check out the "Customers who shopped for this item also shopped for these items" list: Wayman Tisdale, David Benoit, Voodoo Village, Richard Smith--'nuff said!).

So what?

Music categories are mainly a crock anyway.

Listen. I'm a "jazz guy" and I LOVE this disc (OK, my jazz credibility--such as it is--is now almost certainly thoroughly down the toilet with my fellow Amazon jazz reviewers; again, so what?).

Personally, I'm struggling to figure out how this resonates with the David Benoit crowd; there's simply way too much of an authentic jazz esthetic happening here: Saisse over and over again demonstrates entirely respectible jazz bona fides (esp. a sly but deeply delved blues sensibility); David Fink (acoustic bass) needs no introduction to the serious jazz fan--his credits read like a Who's Who of jazz; and Skoota Warner on drums plays a David King (of the Bad Plus) type role in this setting, creating rockish, hip-hoppy grooves that lend this music a smart contemporary feel that too many post-bop sessions to name desperately lack.

OK, it occasionally sidles up too close to jazz lite (esp., I'd say, "Once" and "About Time," featuring striking but quite pop-oriented vocals by Nneka Morton), but that's all right. I'm of a mind to think that's less a sin than unnecessarily alienating potential listeners by excessive esotericism, a criticism of Jason Moran's (to these ears nevertheless fine) disc, Black Stars.

As I listen to this disc over and over (really--I can't get it out of my player), I'm convinced they're some really fine renditions of (unlikely, for jazz treatments) pop songs: "Summer Breeze," "Alone Again (Naturally)," "Laura," and "I'm Not in Love," the 10CC monster hit. Besides imbuing these chestnuts with a genuine jazz sensibility, Saisse uncovers hidden melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, and blooze treasures hidden in them. And isn't that what jazz is all about? I'd say so.

And that's why I'm so high on this disc, a real surprise, even a sleeper, for me.

I love this cd! I had never heard Liane Foly before and purchased this cd on a whim. I could not stop listening to it. I love the sensuality of her voice as well as the music on all the tracks. NOT a disappointment at all, in fact, what a delight to discover this French singer.

Leane Foley's "Acoustique" is irksome, monotonous, and lacking originality. I love French music and often gamble by buying a new CD without knowing what's in the package. It's a first one yet that delivers NO charm and NO light at the end of the tunnel.

Oh là là!.......2001-12-11

I was on holiday in France and at the little bistrot by the corner (in Vieux Boucau) they kept playing song number 10, La vie ne m'apprend rien. I fell in love with it (her) and just had to get this album. Very nice and pleasant. I would recommend as well one of her other albums, Entre nous. Fantastique.

Disappointment.......2001-05-08

I bought this cd upon the recommendations of the reviews on this website. I must say that with all the good reviews posted I was disappointed. Maybe my expectations were too high, or I didn't get what I was expecting. First of all, where is the " Old School Cabaret Style and a Jazzy Touch." The only cabaret style about this cd is maybe her voice. As for the jazzy touch, there is just a touch of saxophone. I felt like I should be shopping at the Marche. So I guess in a way it did transport me to France. Don't get me wrong I did enjoy listening to some of the songs, they just didn't live up to some of the other reviews. If you are a Liane Foly fan, I am sure that as with other the reviewers, you will like it.

It transcends language barriers.......2000-09-16

I first heard this her songs during a flight from Los Angeles to Paris. I fell in love with her voice, but really didn't understand a word she was saying. I was convinced right there that I have to find out what she is saying in her songs. It is simply beautiful.

Saisse at his best since Valerian !!!.......2005-09-21

This album remind me Valerian, Saisse's first album wich is my favorite one. The piano playing is awesome, especially on "Dorian" (what a good tribute to his son !!!).
I recommend especially the song "finck it up" where Dave Finck is at his best and Warner plays a beat at counter time.
What to say about Kelly Sae, her voice and singing are as beautiful as her. In other words : no mistake on this album, it's all good (even if the price is a bit high, the quality of mastering in 24 bits is excellent).

I love this cd tho at first I thought it was over priced but when I heard it I felt I got my money's worth. This is some of the best jazz I've ever heard on one cd. These guys are jamming all through it. They named the cd Body and Soul correctly because these guys really put their whole body and soul in it. I fell in love with Do It Again when I heard it on the radio and they did one great job on September. That piano player must have been born with a piano. He is extremely talented. I highly recommend this cd. If I could give it more than 5 stars than I would.
