5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2001-03-08

Here's a band that forges rock'n'roll into something that it was never meant to be. "Noir Desir" is one of the most powerful French electric-guitar based artists on the international scene today, and this album is one of their best. The song "Tostaky" is sung in a few different languages and sounds like the Sex Pistols going glossalia! If you are new to the French alternative sound, please start with this album! It smokes!

5 out of 5 stars Si vous aimez rock francais..........2001-02-07

This is good! No, it is great! The album touchs your soul unlike most popular artists. Too bad the are not more popular in the US but the best music is underground. I liked "one trip one noise" cd better, but it was a remix cd. BUT I KNOW that you will love NOIR DESIR it you live rock and if you love french!

5 out of 5 stars An incredible album, although I don't speak French at all........2000-04-15

Although I know most ND albums (which are quite hard to get in Germany), this still is my personal favourite. Apart from the English songs, my two faves are the catchy "Johnny Colère" cover and the deeply moving sad ballad "Oublie" which was the first song that grabbed my attention on this CD. Great stuff.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely, positively kicks butt.......1998-12-16

Wow...talk about an albumn that will blow you away. If there's a Noir Desir albumn to cut your teeth on, this is the one. Fair warning, though: this is probably their best stuff, so this albumn will spoil you. (Not that the rest of their stuff is bad--quite the contrary.) If their early stuff sounds a little REM-like, in this albumn they definitely come into their own. Several English songs on the albumn make it accessible to non-francophones, and, surprisingly, they are some of the best songs on the albumn. Absolutely loved this ablumn. Get it. NOW.

My latest business trip would have been much more stressy without noir desir's "tostaky" playing on my walkman and blowing my brains out.. You can hardly find a better band (and a better album) among the European independant music scene. I bought "tostaky" more than four years ago and still think it is one of the best albums in my collection. Like Extremoduro for Spain and Rammstein for Germany, noir desir is the French band of the nieties. Brilliant lyrics, brilliant music and an even more brilliant singer. If you want to convince somebody that French is one of the most beautiful languages make them listen to this album. Almost to good to be true.
