Raz Mesinai was born in Jerusalem, Israel/Palestine in 1973, and raised in both Jerusalem and New York City. As a child Raz spent much of his time in the Sinai Desert with the Bedouins (desert nomads). Among them was dervish Sufi Sheik Murshid Hassan who taught Raz, among other things, the subtle and direct art of Middle Eastern percussion. When Razs family moved to NY, he continued his musical education under Jewish storyteller and musician Rabbi Schlomo Carlebach, becoming an expert in Persian, Indian, Yemenite, Moroccan, and Afro-Cuban rhythms. By the age of 16 he was selling his homemade dub cassettes on the streets of New York. Eventually, along with DJ Spooky, DJ Olive, Soulslinger & Wordsound I Powa, he joined NYCs Academy of Underground DJs and founded Rotor (a collective of composers focusing on the turntable as electronic instrument) with DJ Olive and Toshio Kajiwara. He also founded the influential duo Sub Dub with John Ward. Apart from ROIR, Raz has released albums on Asphodel, Instinct, BSI, & John Zorns Tzadik label.
Product Description
Clones and False Prophets is the latest chapter in the Myth of Badawi, which now spans 8 years and 5 albums, but anyone who has listened to Badawis music know that it reaches far beyond its years. Like the heritage of its creator, Raz Mesinai, the Badawi saga bridges continents, musical styles and spiritual faiths into something sublime. Clones and False Prophets is easily the most varied and dynamic Badawi release. There are elements of all four previous albums but also some differences. Perhaps most significant is that on Clones Raz utilizes his increasing connection to NYCs downtown improvisational music scene based around the nightclub Tonic by drafting the following masters into his sonic army: Marc Ribot, Ben Perowsky, Doug Wieselman, Shahzad Ismaily & Carolyn "Honeychild" Coleman. The musicians unique improvisational personalities create opposing ideas within each song, which ends up serving as a musical treaty between all the ideas vying for power. So the listener, whether they be a heretic, etheric, clone or False Prophet, hears mighty forces negotiate terms & conditions, choose flags & uniforms, and stake their own musical territory. Or as Raz himself states, "create angles, lines and borders in what was once a circle." The resulting album is as complex as it is rooted. One feels the tension beneath every note, constantly threatening to explode into violence. Occasionally it does. From the brooding opening of its first two tracks Clones slowly gets more intricate as its rhythms build in complexity and fervor. The percussion and drums do something transcendent on "Enter the Tomb Raider". The players ride a wonderfully snaky guitar riff on "Atoning of the Myths". And it all explodes with "Battle Cry", which sounds like Middle East gone Krautrock. "Waves Of Conflict" is the albums last great struggle and "To Be Continued" ends Clones & False Prophets with the repetition of one word: "confusion". This is an album meant to be read into. This is the myth unfolding before your very ears

John Williams' lovely and moving score for the sixth Star Wars film brings thirty years of collaborating on George Lucas' beyond-popular intergalactic franchise to a close. (Is this really the end of Star Wars? Can't Lucas and Williams work together on a prequel to these prequels? Let us hope so, and that Jar Jar Binks is nowhere near it.) As this music accompanies the most exciting Star Wars film in many a moon, the soundtrack itself is more fun, more evil, more nasty and bumpy. Many of the heroic, anthemic themes woven throughout Episode Three: Revenge of the Sith will necessarily be familiar to any fan of the series, from the "Imperial March" to the main theme. It's remarkable how stirring the latter can be, no matter how many times you've heard it, and even for those who do not have all their money invested in S.W. memorabilia. There is a lot of new music here, and the lush, extensive range of both Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra is on display, most notably in the menacing, percolating "General Grievous" and the rousing "New Hope" end theme. --Mike McGonigal

Star Wars: A Musical Journey (2005) (V).......2007-06-21
The bonus dvd with this soundtrack was the reason I purchased. I enjoy film soundtracks, and science fiction, but this dvd was a real highlight for me. I got the soundtrack cd out of the local library. The cd was missing from the case, but I found this wonderful dvd instead that I went out to purchase later.
With optional segments of dialog from Ian McDiarmid, this film is a stunning visual and musical overview of the full epic story of episodes I-VI of Star Wars. For those of us who felt that eps. IV-VI fell short of our expectations, this film presents them well as parts of the whole story. The Musical Journey also stands as a summary of the entire SW opus for someone who is not familiar with the Star Wars characters and plot. Highly recommended.

Not one of his bests, but very close.......2007-05-21
My favorite tracks are "Battle of the Heroes," "Anakin's Betrayal," Palpatine's teachings, "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan," and the "Immolation Scene."
The others are very good as well, but these are especially nice. "Battle of the Heroes" is Dual of the Fates for Revenge of the Sith. "Anakin's Betrayal" is a very sad track that is, in my opinion, one of William's most powerful pieces. "Palpatine's Teachings" is really, really neat. It's very dark and moody, a perfect piece for the evil emperor. The only weird thing is the end. "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan" is the action piece that plays during the battles of Anakin and Obi-Wan, and Yoda and the Emperor. Finally, "The Immolation Scene" is another sad piece, even more so than "Anakin's Betrayal."
Although I really like this CD, there are some things that are missing (as usual). First, the whole sequence where the droids are looking for Obi-Wan after he was shot. You see Obi-Wan in his ship with Senator Organa on the Hologram (or whatever it is), and Obi-Wan says that his clones turned on him. That was some pretty awesome music that OF COURSE was left out of the CD. Then there was Dual of the Fates in the movie, but completely absent from the CD. And probably the most annoying was that whole piece of music before Obi-Wan and Anakin fight. It was so touching and sad and I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY LEFT IT OUT! Absolutely amazing. Also, did anyone notice that some little bits were cut out? For example, in Anakin vs. Obi Wan, they cut out about a second or two of choir. What?! What the heck is with that? It's when Anakin is running on the long thing and jumps on the droid on the lava. Also, there was some pretty cool drumming when you see Yoda and the Emperor fighting, and you can see the whole stadium (the big room). There's also drumming in "Enter Lord Vader" that is muted in the soundtrack.
Oh well...if I'm going to collect movie scores, I'm going to have to get used to the fact that in almost all cases there's not going to be every bit of music. I've experienced this in both Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park I (there was very little left out on this score), and almost everything else. At the moment, I'm just waiting for the 22nd, for the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 soundtrack. It's gonna be amazing.

John Williams' finest work.......2007-04-20
Having said that, I will say that few soundtracks have ever so perfectly captured the underlying emotional currents of their respective movie; in the case of ROTS, the contemporaneous tragedies of Anakin's fall to the Dark Side, the extermination of the Jedi, and the rise of the oppressive Empire. The listener is confronted with the depth and totality of the evil that has beset the entire galaxy to a degree that the film could not reach in only 2 hours.
Bravo, Dan Mohr, and BRAVO John Williams!

Disc 1: 60 minutes
Disc 2: 50 minutes
Disc 3: 61 minutes
Disc 4: 58 minutes
What gives Silva? There is *MUCH* more John Williams in the silva screen back catalogue by the Prague Philharmonic than what is in this set, and thats not including their entire discs devoted to Star Wars Films, Indiana Jones Trilogy etc. Why isn't Hook "When You're Alone" included on Disc 2? There's room. Why isn't 1941 on Disc 1? There's room. Why isn't Earthquake on Disc 3? There's room. Why isn't Far and Away on disc 4? There's room. Where's the other ten minutes of the Rare Breed suite on disc 3? Why isn't Midway on disc 1? Where are the Land of the Giants, Time Tunnel and Lots In Space tv themes? Etc. Etc. Etc.
C'mon Silva, most of these 4 disc mega boxes released in the past few years are packed to the brim, but not this one, and with new recordings made after this was released (the terminal, munich, geisha, war of the worlds, star wars ep 3, harry potter 3), it only makes sense for a "re-do" in the next couple of years.
Further, with Silva releasing the 100 Greatest Film Themes on six discs in a couple of months, it's only a matter of time before we see the ultimate six disc john williams set.
This isn't a BAD set to own, but it could have been much better and when compared to the Jerry Goldsmith and John Barry sets in this same series, this one is a major letdown.

There's never been anything quite like the symphonic film music series that John Williams has forged for George Lucas's sprawling Star Wars saga. By the time the sixth chapter rolls around, Williams will have created a body of work that spans fully 30 years of his career, a virtual Ring Cycle of sci-fi/fantasy soundtrack music. While Attack of the Clones again achieves the high standards of its predecessors, it also succeeds by both forging some rewarding new musical themes at the same time it begins to bring the galactic fable full circle. The budding relationship between now-teenaged Anakin Skywalker and Amidala/Padme is informed by "Across the Stars--Love Theme from Attack of the Clones," a grand romantic motif that's infused with a subtle melancholy that hints at the tragedy that must ultimately befall the young lovers. The composer's mastery of idiom and color serve him especially well in the action cues, infusing "Zam the Assassin and the Chase Through Coruscant" and "Jango's Escape" with bracing doses of 20th-century modernism and its inherent rhythmic fury performed, as always, by the London Symphony Orchestra. Williams also incorporates the "Force" and "Jedi" themes of the first SW trilogy sparingly, before "Confrontation with Count Dooku and Finale" completes the musical/thematic tapestry by interweaving The Empire Strikes Back's menacing "Imperial March" with both the new "Love Theme" and the Phantom Menace's dramatic choral showcase "Duel of the Fates." This sweeping denouement should rightfully take its place among the saga's most compelling musical sequences. Purists may grouse at the obviously abridged music here, but given history a complete/ultimate edition of the score can't be far behind. This soundtrack is issued with one of four different, collectible covers. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

Funk Upon A Time.......2007-03-02
In a mix dominated by the horn section - Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker, Rick Gardner, Michael Brecker & Randy Brecker - right from the opening melodic phrase of Gamin' On Ya, the storyline tells how aliens placed the secrets of funk in the pyramids and are now returning to set us free.
Check out Gettin' To Know You, especially the piano solo by Bernie Worrell, and consider it a nod to the genius of Stevie Wonder. The trombome solo by Wesley on Dr. Funkenstein drives the pure funk.
Children of Productions is the cornerstone to the story:
We're a flawless testimony
To the attainment of the P-Funk
Endowed with conceivement of true groove
We are deeper than abortion
Deeper than the notion
That the world was flat when it was round
We're gonna blow the cobwebs out your mind
Children of Productions
A classic drum intro kicks off Do That Stuff and flows into Everything Is On The One. The mid-tempo groove of I've Been Watching You (Move Your Sexy Body) sets up a great finale, Funkin' For You.
The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein is the complete package of legendary P-Funk characters and solid lyrics, with a twist in production that makes it one of the finest Parliament releases ever.

Another Inconsistant Album (Rating: 6 out of 10).......2006-11-23
Production is okay at best. Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo do a decent job keeping the production together, like as I mentioned earlier, the song "Frontin'". Also the Busta Rhymes song "Light Your [...] On Fire" carries a nice beat. But songs like "Popular Thug" with Nas and Kelis, and "Blaze Of Glory" is not what I expected from this duo.
The biggest problem on this album is the lyrics. Some of these artists sound like they wrote their rhymes on a bad day. The song "Blaze Of Glory" is possibly one of the worst songs I've heard from The Clipse. "It Wasn't Us" with Ludacris was origonally on his Incognegro LP, but this one features I-20, and it's still has wack rhymes and a wack hook. "Put 'Em Up" with Noreaga and "Pop Sh.." with ODB should have never seen the light of day if you ask me. Even the punk rock songs ("Half Steering" and "F N Spend") both suck, and I listen to punk rock from time to time.
There are some good points on this album though. Aside from "Frontin", the next song "Good Girl" sound nice by Vanessa Marquez, showing potential for an up and comming singer. "If" by Snoop Dogg is dope as it carries a nice beat as well as Pharrell's singing, both working together. "Hot Damn" is a good track by the Clipse, Ab-Liva, and Roscoe P. Gold Chain.
So this album wasn't good. If anything, I believe there could have been a better selection of artists, or the ones on here should have brought their A game on this album. Also the production could have been much better on this album. I was already dissapointed with Pharrell's solo album "In My Mind". All I need to do now is listen to any N.E.R.D. albums, and if they're bad, I'll be finished with any Neptunes' related albums.
The DVD here has the music videos of "Rock 'N' Roll", "Hot Damn" and "Frontin'". Those videos are good, making the DVD a keeper.

Bare with it...........................2005-11-18
This album also contains a bonus DVD with interviews and a clip of the Clipse in a gun alley. A good aspect of this album is its variety. A variety of all different types of music which makes it a pretty decent album. The second good thing about this album is there are a lot of appearances on this album such as Ludacris, Clipse, Snoop Dogg, Jadakiss, Jay-Z, Nas, Nelly, NORE, Kelis, Busta Rhymes, Ol' Dirty Bastard.
The Neptune's have gained enough credibility in the music industry to be on of those producers who drop an album and people just rush out to the stores to buy it just for the beats. That's part of the reason why I purchase this album. Few of my favorites are "Frontin'" feat, Jay-Z, "Light yo Ass on Fire", "Hot Damn,","It wasn't us," and ESPECIALLY "It blows my mind" and "Put em' up".
Overall this CD is not bad. The Neptune's could have done better no lie. If only they put more time and the same amount effort into this CD done on their previous work, then it would been phenomenal. Instead they give us maybe less than a dozen great tracks, a few good ones, and some so-so songs that shouldn't belong on an album in the first place.
This CD is something to add to your collection and to say that you own it but like I said If you are a fan of any type of music then this album is for you.
Clones: An Ironic Truth? (**1/2).......2005-11-10
Clones as an album tries to capitalise on all of this by being used to both give a platform for their own labels talent such as Clipse and show off their phonebook with guest such as Busta, Nelly, NaS, and of course Jay-Z. I think most people weren't that surprised that they had managed to get the two Mc's with one of at the time (although slowly dieing) biggest above ground beefs on the same album, as I don't think anyone believed that that hasn't been anything but a marketing ploy for both parties for a long time. (Note: These two parties recently performed on Jay-Z's I declare War comeback show absolving any lasting remnants of rumours that there was still beef).
As it stands the album seems like a bit of mess particularly because about midway they start to trek off the hard line high production value sounds into rockier territory for a fleeting moment and it doesn't really work. The weakest thing with a Neptunes song is usually the artist they work with and much of the time it's the same here on Clones, which ironically is sometimes what it feels like when listening to Nelly sing about the token `would you love me if I didn't have bag loads of cash' song. Woe is me Nelly. Or Blaze of Glory with Clipse and co telling us how much they clap (Yawn). Indeed it does seem at times that The Neptunes are handing out "Styles like Ice Cream Cones" to quote Pharrell on Hot Damn, and that isn't a good thing. The album does however bring some jams that are undeniably catchy such as Popular Thug or the infamous Frontin' even the smoked out it Blows My Mind brings something to the table even though once again the content is completely conceited.
When it comes to the crunch tho it seems The Neptunes really are presenting nothing but clones.

Usually, I am weary of cds that come out with songs from movies that aren't the original recordings, but I have to say there should be no worries with this cd. The songs remain exactly the same in tempo and sound as you hear them in the movies.
The choices for this cd was amazing. Every song that you hear are the songs that make the movie it is in, most often giving you chills and goosebumps as the music encompasses you into the movie (like what happened to me when I saw Lord of the Rings). From the Theme from 2001: a Space Oddysey to Star Wars: Attack of the Clones to Lord of the Rings, these songs are performed beautifully with a clear and crisp sound.
I am hoping for an Epics II to be released someday, but in the meantime, check this out, you will NOT be dissappointed!

It includes the fabulous themes I love from the film such as the Hobbiton, Mines of Moria, Amon Hen, Isengard and Breaking of the Fellowship themes from the original soundtrack. The "Gladiator" suite comes as a close second but there really isn't a mediocre theme music in this collection. Erich Kunzel has done a fabulous job of selecting, orchestrating and arranging these wonderful pieces and I consider this one of the best classical CDs in my collection. Superb!
"the grand scale of film music ~ Kunzel & the Pops".......2003-11-18
In most cases the performances closely match the original film score themes ~ listening to this album is like watching the film all over again, as the tension builds up and the release is right in your face ~ just like being there. Quality sound is the reason to purchase this CD, simply amazing.
Many "film-score-buffs" will already have some or many of the cues in their collections ~ but for the avid collector this is a dream come true. All under one umbrella is Elmer Bernstein, Maurice Jarre, Tan Dun, Alex North, Miklos Rozsa, Max Steiner, John Williams and Hans Zimmer doing what they do best...composing!
Listen to the scores within "BEN HUR", "CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON", "DOCTOR ZHIVAGO", "HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE", "GLADIATOR", "GONE WITH THE WIND", "LAWRENCE OF ARABIA", "LORD OF THE RINGS:THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING", "MAGNIFICENT SEVEN", "MINORITY REPORT", "PEARL HARBOR", "SPARTACUS", "STAR WARS, EPISODE II:ATTACK OF THE CLONES" and "2001:A SPACE ODYSSEY" many Golden Globe nominees and winners, while others were Academy Award nominations and winners ~ whatever category they fell in...they were all winners on the grand scale of "Epic Film Music" ~ gotta love it!

Apparently, there are many prolific producers who privately wish they were equally adept MCs and vocalists--and likewise. Very few pull it off, but don't tell that to Pharrell Williams, who, with Chad Hugo, make up the production duo the Neptunes. He's co-produced an inordinately large percentage of new millennium Billboard chart-toppers: Britney, Justin, Janet, Jay-Z, Nelly, 'nuff said. That's why he can do as he pleases, thank you. But as Clones proves, the Neptunes' production hegemony will not be challenged anytime soon. Outside of the stripped-down percussive melodies on Busta Rhymes's ode to rumps ("Light Your A** on Fire") and the minimalist "Pop Sh*t" featuring hip-hop court jester Dirt McGirt (a.k.a.Ol' Dirty Bastard), the rest of this collection is all metallic drum sounds and noisy choruses. So who cares if Pharrell can't really croon a lick on "Frontin'" (featuring Jay-Z)? Sure, Clipse aren't the illest MCs by any stretch, but they still absolutely annihilate "Hot Damn." Why? Because the Neptunes can arguably make any average Joe Emcee sound good. Cop this, because resistance to the Neptunes' made-for-the-dance-floor beats is simply futile. --Dalton HigginsCustomer Reviews:
Pharrell, Chad make a great team.......2004-10-20
Pay Attention!.......2004-03-11
This is the reason a N.E.R.D album is coming out very soon, they keep their job and their own personal music separate. Pay attention, please!
The artists on 'Presents' are ok. Im not a big fan of most of them but overall the production values are tight as usual and smooth.
