Elza is Elza. A powerful voice that is as Brazilian as the flag of her country, an energetic lady that is praised everywhere (she was elected best singer worldwide by the BBC). A character that is not afraid to take risks.
"Vivo Feliz" is a major risk. By teaming up with the young electronic collective of Reco-head and producer Arthur Joly, she has lent her voice and her persona to one of the most vibrant albums to come out of Brazil in years. It is intense, rhythmic, emotional and plunges deep in new musical experiments. No, ladies and gentlemen, this is not drum'n'bass meets bossa nova. This is the real deal. Pure, genuine creativity and real energy in the form of music.
Tracks "Rio de Janeiro" and "Computadores Fazem Arte" (a stunning cover of the track made famous by the late mangue singer Chico Science) are my favorites.

First of all, a correction: "La Hora Feliz" is a live-recorded jazz album performed - among others - by Angel Parra, not the historical left-winged folk artist, but his son, who was also the guitarist of the chilean rock band "Los Tres".

This is the recording of a jazz oriented concert, where Angel Parra Trio had the important colaboration of many local artist (i.e. electronic band "Los Mismos" and DJ's Bitman & Roban; Angel Parra's sister Javiera Parra, a popsinger; trumpetist Cristian Cuturrufo, etc); all of them achieved a very fresh and funny concert, divided in four sections: "La hora popular" (the popular hour, dedicated to folk, popular national standards), "la hora electrónica" (in which the band invited the mentionated electronical artist), "la hora bossa" (with six performances of brazilian classics as 'Desafinado' and original tropical-oriented songs by the Trio) and "La Hora Swing (all about swing jazz music as 'When you are similin', performed by the trio as a particular seven members' big band orchestra).

You'll find up-tempo tunes played only by the trio (i.e. 'Fruta y Pollo'), stranges impros over latin-folk compositions ('El Forró de Manuela?), impressives funky moments ('Quail Bait', 'Save the Waves'), warm amusing singing (Desafinado, Si me enamoro)... even Cuecas ('La cueca de los Parra'), our national folk dance...

This album works as a perfect portrait of the influences and orientations, not only for the Trio's music, but for a significative part of the chilean jazz scene. Absolutely recomendated.
