Marcio Faraco is one of the finest Brazilian musicians playing today. He is well known in France (where he lives) and other parts of Europe, though little known in the US. I emailed Marcio Faraco around the time COM TRADICAO. his 3rd album, was coming out. I speak no Portuguese and he knows little English. It didn't matter. He said that COM TRADICAO was a happier album than his previous two. Maybe it contains less "saudado" - that untranslatable Brazilian feeling. Com Tradicao is filled with an infectious joy that begins on the first track. Musically, this is the most diverse of Marcio's four recordings -- all of which are worth having. In addition to Marcio's lilting acoustic guitar, Com Tradicao has clarinet, pedal steel guitar, bass clarinet, a mandolin-sounding instrument from Brazil, and others, along with some of the finest percussion I have ever heard. His song craft is just as diverse, ballads, bossa nova and samba injected with rhythm & blues. Just get it...and listen.

I only know a little Portuguese but people tell me the lyrics are poetic. Since I've discovered Faraco I can't stop listening to him. All three CD's are great. Faraco is the only Brazilian music beside the 1963 classic Getz/Gilberto (girl from Ipanema) album I can listen to consistently without ever getting tired of it. The subtleties in the recordings really come out with a good high-end stereo system. Faraco deserves to be much more popular/known. It's too bad Brazilian music (Jazz/Bosso?)in the vein of Gilberto is not as popular in the world as it was in the 60's. Otherwise we might be calling Marcio Faraco "o mito novo" ;-)

I can't wait for the next CD! And when will he tour to the USA??? !!!

Instant Classic!.......2005-10-03

I bought this CD some 6 months ago here in Barcelona, and it is by far the best Samba recording I have in my collection, Marcio Faraco is the real thing, a sambista true to it's roots and a songwriter and poet as there are few today, an artist of great knowledge and sensibility - names like Nick Drake, Pat Matheny and Caetano Veloso come to my mind while listing to this beautiful music, Márcio Faraco deserves much more recognition then just this little, single review on Amazon.
