Music that gets to you.......2007-07-04

I'm not a fan of chanting of any kind but this music (the first two tracks) is truly beautiful. The fact that each track goes on for 20 minutes means that you can realy get into it, although I don't recommend listening to it too much as you will get sick of it!.

This is authentic.......2006-01-13

I lived for several years in Nepal and frequently visited on the main buddhist stuppas for ceremonies at the full moon. This CD was constantly played in shops around the area and the melody used by area monasteries. One evening I sat with friends and listened for hours to child monks singing this chant on the rooftop of a nearby monastery. This melody is very popular, and although the music may sound new age to some, the instruments are sounds are those often found in traditional and folk music in Nepal and Tibet. I cannot think of the Om Mani Padme Hung chant without hearing the melody on this CD. If you dislike the instruments, the accoustic version is included as well.

Literally enchanting !.......2005-12-30

When I visited Dharamsala in 2001 to see His Holiness The Dalai Lama, this CD was being played in every little shop on the streets. The whole town was filled with this chanting ! So I bought it and have continued to enjoy listening to it almost every day. I hope the mantras will imprint themselves on my heart. I love it !!!

the truth.......2005-10-11

There is no reason to put down this disc, if the Dalai Lama himself plays this at his talks, and he is according to his own people the physical manifestation of chenrezig (avaloketishvara) then it is not a pseudo-techno japanese version of tibetan chanting. Om mani padme hung is the most widley practiced chant in the buddhist tradition, and it is used a a vehicle for ending the suffering and to accelerate the liberation of all sentinent beings. No this is not bioctave gutteral tibetan chanting of tibetan monks, this is a recording by "people" who had the heart to chant a mantra for the benifit of all the listeners. Of course they got paid, of course the producer got paid to make the record, who cares, they desreve it. So, if you or I put in a cd of "real" tibetan monks chanting and chant along, do we ruin the originality of the chant and make it new age or watered down because we are westerners? or do we add to the vibration that the mantra is trying to impart to this world of attachment and suffering. I have personall sold hundreds of copies of this cd to people who had never been into any spiritual practice and becasue this was available, they opened there hearts to buddhist practice. what elese do people want? should we beconcerned aobut the "authenticity" of the people who recorded the music or should we be thankfull and feel blessed to be able to listen to this music in the first place?

This disc is more of a Japanese pseudo-disco version of some distorted version of Tibetan Chants. Not at all what I expected. The subtitle "The Meditative Sound Of Buddhist Chants" is extremely misleading. Rather sleazy money grab from people who are looking for Tibetan music. A waste of money... If I wanted this type of music I would have ordered KC and the Sunshine Band sing Buddha Rocks..... I think you need to add a zero stars to your rating system.

Incredibly soothing listening.......2007-02-10

It's difficult to know if the pieces in this are really being performed by Tibetan monks, but the music and singing is so beautiful and soothing and relaxing that it quite simply doesn't matter. I really like to listen to this when on a plane or even at the dentist - tension simply slides away.

Setting standards for Melody.......2005-02-04

The three songs on this CD define melody. They are so melodious that, though, I don't understand all of it nor can remember the words, I keep humming the songs. The first and the third song are the same with an alternate rendition. The chant is repeated over and over and over again, but never did I get bored of it. In fact, it is so calming, bewitching and captivating, that I listen to it more than a few times a day. The second song - the mantra of Avalokiteshwara - is so beautiful, that it enlivens my heart like a baby's smile.

This CD is that rare gem of melody, reflecting peace and relaxation. Perfect background for my yoga classes or during work.

Nice rendition of Buddhist chants.......2004-12-13

I am a Tibetan refugee living in Kathmandu and i agree with Ian Oliver that the streets of Kathmandu, especially the Boudha stupa is humming with this music. After days of listening to the music while on my "koras" around the stupa , i finally bought a copy and i tell you its great. Get one, though it is in Chinese the first and the last tracks can't go wrong. Even my Hindu friends are hooked onto the tracks and are showing genuine interest in Tibetan Buddhism. That's all from Kathmandu.

A light and Very Uplifting CD.......2004-04-09

Although not performed by real Tibetan monks, this CD is the ONLY CD I can find that actually has a track dedicated to the mantra "Om Mani Peme Hung." The third track is only the mantra and a wooden block and a small bell to keep the beat of the mantra. For those who understand the purity of the mantra, this is very important. The mantra itself must be left alone at times and these producers understood this basic premise. Often the mantra is overlaid with so many synthesizers and ocean waves and streams that one cannot grasp the purity of the mantra. This CD is well made and positive.

Meditational.......2004-03-22

This is the only pure Chenrezig chant I have been able to find on the entire web. Others attempt to play music with the chant or add unrealistic echos to where it sounds like the chanter is in a massive cave. This CD allows one to hear a musical rendition of the chant in the beginning, but in the third piece, allows only a monk's small, wooden block and bell to be heard for a tempo. It is definately not Buddhist monks chanting, but the words themselves, the Sacred Mantra of Om Mani Peme Hung is heard in its purity.
