5 out of 5 stars From the bottom of MY heart (I recommend).......2007-02-10

This CD is worth its money just for the song From The Bottom Of My Heart. Dammi,Dammi,Dammi is probably the best Italian love song by Dino, and certainly my favorite! Thus the other 15 songs are here absolutely free! Great deal, great sound, great Artist! The only weak point (which costs one star I have already deducted from the six it's worth): Take Me In Your Arms and Come Back To Sorrento are the same songs (performed in different languages) therefore should be separated. The editor of this CD (actually compilation and non-regular issue) should also made his mind what to include here: ITALIAN or ITALIAN LOVE songs; I'm affraid that Luna Mezzo Mare (Italian folk song) does not fit the LOVE criteria. Instead, I'll be very glad to see here O Marenariello (I Have But One Heart). Luna Mezzo Mare (like the other folk song Ma Come Bali Bella Bimba and famous Santa Lucia) may be included in the future Dino's Complete Italian Collection. Dreamer?

If your italian, married or dating one, or looking to date one, these songs are GOLD! Every romantic needs this CD in their collection to study and enjoy the full-bodied flavor of the Master "Dino" crooning these masterpieces. They include a full range of emotions and temperments one experiences in the attraction, pursuit, capture and loss of the most desireable human condition... To Love and Be Loved. Only the Italians can express love in so many colors and only Dean Martin can vocalize them. Dino is tops and this CD is proof. A great addition to any collection of love songs or Dean Martin hits. Great listening...great mood music...by one of the greatest lovers can put you and yours in the sweetest of situations.

Album Description

Following on the enormous success of her first recording for CBC RECORDS - Joyous Light (CBC SMCD 5215) - the stunning young Canadian lyric soprano ISABEL BAYRAKDARIAN turns her attention to the seductive colours and rhythms of Spain and Latin America. The centre piece of this recording is the vocal evergreen, Bachianas Brasileiras # 5 for soprano and eight cellos by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. After winning the Metropolitan Opera National Auditions in 1997, Isabel (who is of Armenian descent) has gone on to make debuts with such international companies as the Metropolitan Opera (New York), Lyric Opera of Chicago, Paris Opera and La Scala (Milan), Semperoper (Dresden) and the Canadian Opera Company (Toronto).

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Isabel's voice is enchanting!.......2006-10-12

I had never heard of Isabel Bayrakdarian before. I was looking for a copy of Obradors' "Chiquitita la Novia" and happened to come upon this cd. Am I glad I bought it, in fact, I'm wearing it out. Her voice is like a bright
sunlight. Her interpretations are exquisite. My favorite on the recording is Granados' "La Maja y el Ruisenor".
Brava Isabel!

5 out of 5 stars A real diamond!.......2006-04-13

I heard this voice first time on CBC Radio - from a concert in Toronto. It was magical! Soon after, I had a chance to listen to her in recital and this was an EVENT! Over two thousand people in the concert hall were holding their breath for two hours and it seemed that the hall itself became small and cozy. It was indeed a contact soul to soul.
Isabel has a rare talent that combines beautiful tone, clarity and unbelievable fluidity of her voice, intelligent thinking, good sensitive heart and generous nature. You believe every intonation, every nuance. She is always authentic, always noble and her expressivity is never forced, emotions are never overacted.
This CD captures well her magic voice. And God, she is amazing in pianissimos! That's why to me, the Lullaby by Xavier Montsalvatge with its softness and warmth is the highlight of this recording.

4 out of 5 stars Amazing amazing stuff.......2004-10-07

The only reason I didn't give this disc five stars is because I'm not too crazy about Grandos' "Tonadillas." They aren't bad, but they're an incredibly weak opening group and the piano is a bit bouncy and boppy when compared to the more somber numbers on this disc with the cello ensemble.

I first fell in love with Bayrakdarian's voice on the CD "Joyous Light," a collection of Armenian liturgical music arranged for soprano and orchestra (some of it just solo voice.) This disc intrigued me because of her incredible voice and the somewhat off the beaten path repertoire & instrumentation (soprano, piano & cello ensemble!?!) I was happy to see a young, amazing talent NOT do a disc of Italian or German arias. Her CDs definately seem to explore the lesser known repertoire and that's to be commended, because we get to hear a stellar voice bring some real gems to light. Interesting that soprano's solo disc includes an instrumental piece, but it fits in nicely and is certainly appreciated by this listener.

The first two of the Rodrigo madrigales are arrestingly beautiful. The disc as a whole is sublime. She's definately one to watch. I can't think of another soprano I'd rather hear these days than Bayrakdarian. I'm flying back to my hometown next year to her in concert. It's months & months away and I can't think of another performance anytime soon that I'm looking this forward to.

5 out of 5 stars Fascinating Program Beautifully Performed.......2003-11-21

There's been a lot of buzz lately about a young soprano just emerging up in Canada, a striking-looking young woman still in her twenties, winner of the Met Auditions, who has a burgeoning career in opera and recital. Her name is Isabel Bayrakdarian, member of an Armenian family who immigrated to Canada in 1989. She apparently had a nice untrained voice but didn't begin training professionally until 1993; meanwhile she had gotten a degree in biomedical engineering. But only four years later she won the Met Auditions and a couple of years later recorded a CD of seemingly esoteric Armenian songs that became a runaway best-seller in Canada. She made her Metropolitan début in 2002 in the role of Catherine in William Bolcom's 'A View from the Bridge.' This CD is a recording of a program that had been presented on CBC Radio and featuring pianist James Parker, himself a virtuoso with a solo career, and ten Toronto cellists led by cello soloist and Canadian Symphony principal, Bryan Epperson. And all of it in music by Hispanic composers.

First, the program is well-constructed, alternating vocal/piano music with vocal/cello ensemble music, with cello ensemble music. Timbres are changed often enough that one's ear does not tire. Second, every bit of the program is superbly performed. Pride of place must be given to Miss Bayrakdarian, whose voice is crystalline and yet imbued with a womanly sensuality that well serves the alternately sultry and kittenish Spanish music present here. She sings Granados's delicious 'Four Tonadillas' with the kind of charm that I thought only a native Spaniard could bring to it. She negotiates the agréments and their subtle alterations of intonation so typical of Spanish singing with complete mastery. Late in the program she performs, with the cello ensemble, the ever-popular Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 as well as I've ever heard it. She also inhabits the sung version of Granados's 'La Maja y el Ruiseñor' ('The Maiden and the Nightingale') arranged for the opera he made from his piano suite 'Goyescas.'

The cello group plays Pablo Casals's arrangement of the Catalan Christmas carol, 'El Cant dels Ocells' ('The Song of the Birds'). And they lend a hand in Joaquin Rodrigo's 'Cuatro madrigales amatorios' ('Four Love Madrigals'), with cello ensemble accompaniment arranged (as in others here recorded) by Peter Tiefenbach. I particularly liked the interplay of teasing soprano and sporty cellos in 'Vos me matásteis' ('I die for love of you'), the second of this set, which is then followed by a bang-up performance of the familiar, catchy 'De los álamos vengo, madre' ('I've been down by the poplars, mother').

Fernando Obradors wrote wonderful songs that occasionally get sung by non-Spanish singers--I remember once being entranced by Elly Ameling singing the set recorded here by Bayrakdarian with superb assistance from pianist Parker, 'Canciones clásicas españolas' ('Classic Spanish Songs'). And I must say that at times I hear a hint of Ameling in Bayrakdarian's voice, something I call 'a smile in the voice.' This set is followed by an expert arrangmement, this time by Claude Kenneson, of Manuel de Falla's 'Suite populaire espagnole' that employs the cello ensemble (with some melting solo work by Epperson, their leader) playing three all-instrumental pieces and then accompanying Bayrakdarian in three of the six songs.

The CD is rounded out by Xavier Montsalatge's Lullaby from 'Cinco canciones negras,' the aforementioned Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5, and then the song that gives this album its title, Jayme Ovalle's 'Azulão' ('Bluebird'). The latter uses all the forces available here--soprano, pianist, cellists--in a haunting lament: 'Go bluebird, bluebird, companion of mine, go! Go see my faithless love.'

I cannot praise this issue highly enough. Ms Bayradkarian's voice is world-class and she sings with great musicality and feeling. Her accompanists are flawless. The recorded sound is quite good. The unattributed notes are very helpful. There are full translations of all the sung texts.

5 out of 5 stars The most noble voice.......2004-05-28

Victoria de los Angeles' voice not only has a silken quality and fascinating glow to it but it is one of the most regal, noble sounds you'll ever hear. She illuminated those moments of quietness, gentleness and noble, feminine pride and elegance like no other soprano before and after her. This release of her "Spanish Songs" has never been surpassed. The songs of her homeland seem to have been written for her beautiful instrument alone, she fills every piece with special beauty and charm, religious flair and beautiful, noble simplicity. Buy this recording and see why Victoria is one of the best sopranos ever having come from Spain.

DE LARROCHA, SORIANO AND ZANETTI PROVIDE UNEQUALED ACCOMPANIEMENTS. THE RECORDINGS ARE SECOND ONLY TO LIFE PERFORMANCES. I UNDERSTAND THAT EMI INTENDS TO TAKE THIS SET OUT OF PUBLICATION. the vocal artist of vocal artistsdisplays her absolutely gorgeous voice and musical understanding of spanish feeling with a warmth that is unmatched anywhere.the only thing better was to hear her in person!

5 out of 5 stars A special Dignity and an Unfailing Beauty of Voice........2000-09-17

This set offers four generously-filled CDs comprising almost 140 Spanish songs from Victoria de los Angeles' repertoire. To all of them she brings a special dignity and an unfailing beauty of voice. The earliest recordings date from 1950 and the last is the items she sang at the opening of the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. Yes, you will find the ubiquitous "Clavelitos!" here, and a later version of "La maya el ruisenor" from "Goyescas". The enclosed booklet provides illuminating notes by Lionel Salter, who also translated many of the texts which are also included. Accompanists include Gerald Moore and Alicia de Larrocha, and Victoria de Los Angeles provides a guitar accompaniment herself in one song. The last track of all, a zapateado from a zarzuela, recorded live in New York, must almost have brought the house down.

Album Description

Dino had already left Capitol for Frank Sinatra's Reprise label by the time this album came out in February 1962, but it proved to be the most successful album he recorded for Capitol. Why? Simply put, nobody, but nobody, ever did Italian pop songs like Dean Martin. The man had been singing these songs his entire life, and it showed in the warmth, sensuality and immaculate phrasing he brought to every track.

4 out of 5 stars A golden nugget shinging brightly!!! BRAVO, DINO !!!.......2007-05-07

Dean Martin could sell a song without even trying--his voice was THAT good. This album gives us Dino in his prime; his voice is rich, energetic and full of masculine warmth. This CD proves it.

The CD track set begins with "Just Say I Love Her (Dicitencello Vuie);" this beautiful love ballad gets the royal treatment from Dean Martin. He sings this to perfection with great sensitivity; what a wonderful way to start off the CD!

The classic "Arrivederci, Roma" follows; and Dean performs this without a superfluous note. The musical arrangement is quite lush with good use of the strings; the chorus doesn't quite do it for me but the rest of this ballad is so flawless my concern about the chorus fades into the background.

Other wonderful tracks on this CD include "My Heart Reminds Me" which was recorded by Della Reese in 1957; but Dino breathes so much fresh life into this ballad he truly makes "My Heart Reminds Me" completely his own. The musical arrangement enhances the beauty of this number. Of course, you get Dean's famous rendition of "Non Dimenticar;" Dean's voice and the musical arrangement complement each other completely. There's also the charming "On An Evening In Roma (Sott'er Celo De Roma);" Dean's voice remains strong and sensitive but the musical arrangement should have been played a little more softly to play up Dean's voice. This is a minor disappointment, I suppose.

In addition, you get "There's No Tomorrow (O Sole Mio)" which has been recorded by so many artists. Dean Martin, however, gives us the definitive interpretation of this classic ballad. Excellent!

The CD also gives us a generous four bonus tracks which were not released on the record album back in 1962. "Bella Bella Bambina" has an infectiously catchy and upbeat melody that makes you want to jump up and dance almost instantaneously; and by the time the CD ends with "Belle From Barcelona (O-O-Le, Mu-Cha-Cha) the Latin twist encourages us to play this CD over and over again.

The liner notes include a replication of the reverse of the record album jacket; and James Ritz contributes a fine essay about Dean and his career.

Unfortunately, I do have one complaint about this album. The music is played too loud; they should have played the arrangements softer to do a better job of showcasing Dean Martin's beautiful vocals. I have to take off one star for this to make this a four star review.

Dean Martin fans will consider this fine CD to be a "must-have" for their collections; and people who enjoy classic pop vocals will cherish this CD for years to come. Dean Martin may have recorded these songs in 1961; but these numbers are so enchanting they are truly timeless. I hope that you get this CD and enjoy it as much as I have!

5 out of 5 stars Memory lane.......2007-02-08

This review is from the heart and perhaps not the head. Being a "Baby-Boomer" of Italo-American heritage, I grew up listening to Frank, Dean, and Mario Lanza. This album was a favorite. This was one of the Capitol "concept" albums. The lush music and Dean's voice were a perfect match for the Italian melodies. His english renditions of Neopolitan love songs is the music of a generation that has been lost. Anyone in my age group and background will love this album. My one complaint is that the reissue included 4 songs that were not from the original release. These are fillers and do not add to the mood set by the orginal album. Still I recommend this album for those quiet nights when beautiful music and lyrics are desired. Although there is always Frank, sometimes you just need Dean.

5 out of 5 stars A Sentimental Favorite!.......2007-02-06

This is a sentimental fave of mine coz the first time I heard this is when was a kid through my parents. There was a CD exactly like this one that was release back in the late 90's that was digitally remastered (the one with the 2-in-1 cd with Cha Cha De Amor)...I have this in fact. Nonetheless, this latest one and the digitally remastered one are both great. The only difference is that the latest one has a more balance sound with Dean's voice and the orchestra; the remastered one had a more pronounced and brighter orchestral sound with which the various instruments "stands out" more, such as the wonderful sound of the accordion for instance. With respect to originality and naturalness, I would prefer the LATEST one probably because that is how it actually sounded like when Dean first recorded it back in 1961. Oh yeah! one more note, I believe Dean's voice sounded better in the latest CD...man! can never get tired of listening to this wonderful CD coz it's sooo goooood! More than 5 stars if you ask me. - John, Southern California

4 out of 5 stars Tadeusz' Choice.......2006-12-29

Thank you John, Southern California! Indeed, the quality of sound offered by Collectors' Choice blows away that from EMI100 edition (2-in-1, Dino:Italian Love Songs/Cha Cha de Amor). Thus again common truth prevails: the cheap stuff is worth nothing!
Here, I'd like to share my thoughts about four bonus songs attached by Collectors' Choice. Some of them spoil, in my opinion, the mood of original release, so I deducted one star to punish the guys responsible for this reissue. I'm very pleased with rare track Bella Bella Bambina included right here (very nice Italian-flavored song), but not with Giuggiola, which is already a typical dance song where the only Italian root is name of the girl (orig. la giuggiola - fruit of il giuggiolo, jujube, Chinese date, bot. Ziziphus zizyphus).
I am very confused with songs Simpatico and Belle from Barcelona. Both are evidently Latin hits and their place is, obviously, together with songs from LP Dino Latino (containing only ten tracks). Was anybody thinking over there? I have found similar examples of somebody's ignorance on CDs by Connie Francis (Italian Collection, too). Her Italian performance was a reason good enough to include La Paloma (famous Latin hit) among Italian hits. And probably the title La Mamma of song by French composer and singer Charles Aznavour (which Connie sings entirely in English) allowed to classify it also as Italian hit.
Here, I didn't expect any cha-chas again, but rather alternate, original (mentioned in the liner notes) recordings of Italian love songs which, so far, are scattered among the other CDs, e.g. Vieni su - on Cha Cha de Amor (c'mon, Collectors' Choice, why there?!); On An Evening in Roma - on Capitol Collectors' Series; Return to Me - on Capitol Collectors' Series and Dino/Essential Dean Martin.
And what about the songs Write To Me From Naples, Buona Sera, Hear My Heart, Until You Love Someone, Tu Sei Bella Signorina, Sogni D'Oro, Napoli, Senza Fine, Via Veneto, Mama Roma, Bianca, La Giostra and Amor Mio? They are out of Dean Martin/Italian Love Songs by Capitol (Hollywood and Vine ed.), too. The most of them is to be found only in expensive boxes by Bear Family (interesting, Germans can do what Americans can't?) and each of them deserves to be included here instead of the Latin ones.
This (collectors'?) edition of Italian Love Songs was a good opportunity to collect all of them together, in multi-disc issue. But if Collectors' Choice is collectors' only by name (and it is, what proved placing Sogni D'Oro between... winter songs - The Winter Romance), and is so firmly stuck to the magic number "16" that is not able to put more songs on one CD, I am going to do it myself, and compile all Dino's Italian love songs!
And you can call it Tadeusz' Choice.

5 out of 5 stars THE ORIGINAL FROM 1962.......2006-07-13

There are two ITALIAN LOVE SONGS cds.The first one is an excellent best of that includes many of DEAN's well known ITALIAN songs like THAT'S AMORE,VOLARE and ON AN EVENING IN ROMA as well as many tunes from the other one from 1962.For your money if you have to choose, buy the best of because all the tracks are good. The original is also very good with lush arrangements.I for one prefer the previous recordings of RETURN TO ME and ON AN EVENING IN ROMA that i discovered on the CAPITOL COLLECTORS SERIES.This edition has four added tracks. If your a fan of DINO,you won't hesitate to add it in your collection.Feels funny to hear DEAN sing THERE'S NO TOMORROW when you know that he was leaving CAPITOL that year.

5 out of 5 stars Queen of Songs.......2007-07-29

I received this CD 'San Fracisco and other Jeanette MacDonald Favorites' a few days ago and have listened to it carefully several times. She is about a generation before my time; so far I have seen only two pictures of her: 'San Francisco' and 'The Merry Widow'. In San Francisco, I discovered she can also sing opera successfully to some degree As for The Merry Widow, I much prefer the later version performed by Lana Turner and Fernando Lamas although Turner didn't sing by herself in the film and Lamas is a lot more convincing than Maurice Chevalier as a Casanova type beau; to be truthful, I can't stand grandpa Chevalier. I beleive I also saw another of her movie which she played quite late in her career because she played mother to Jane Powell, this one I saw in the theater in my teenage days, for your information, I saw almost every MGM musicals in those heyday years. Unfortunately though, I don't quite remember the story of it, but I do remember vaguely that MacDonald sang Un bel di from Puccini's Madama Butterfly and when she sang she formed her mouth so beautifully that one could forget it if she didn't sing well.

One thing I can assert with confidence is that MacDonald is a very beautiful lady oozes with glamour, and is very classy. Classiness was a very prominent and widespread quality of female stars in that era, Lana Turner who played the wealthy merry widow was just one case. If I were to make a list it would occupy a full page, nowadays, it would be impossible to name just three or four female stars with class, no offense, please. Now let me come back to the main subject that is MacDonald's art of singing. Well, she certainly has good vocal technigue, her high note is firm to the very top and she is able to sustain it for a considerable duration as she has displayed quite often in this disc. The voice itself is delicate and sweet, just like her person. However, she tends to sing with monotone which make her singing sounds bland, like no. 4, Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life, may be if she move a notch down the scale it would sound more pleasant. Songs My Mother Taught Me is just about the only song she successfully sings with feelings. Here, I would like to point out that a few songs are worth repeated listenings: Ciribiribin, The Donkey Serenade, Italian Street Song, and of course, Songs My Mother Taught Me.
Songs no. 16 to 22, I'm sorry to say that they are not up to my standard, I have been listening to opera singing for over thirty years you know. I must mention here that MacDonald's French seems very good, I don't know French though, nevertheless, I can tell just by listening

Queen of Songs is a title crowned her by the Chinese people in that time, she was indeed highly esteemed.

5 out of 5 stars Jeanette MacDonald Favorites.......2007-05-13

This CD is an incredible testimony and celebration of an American Master Singer.
A must have for all. An introduction to quality and good taste for a new generation of music lovers.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST for any Jeanette fan!.......2006-04-25

This CD is a gem! The songs included on it are beautiful and show off MacDonald's incredible voice. The best part of this CD, however, is the sound quality. Unlike many of her other recordings, and those featuring her with frequent costar Nelson Eddy, the sound on this CD is pristine, and you can barely tell the recordings are 50+ years old!

4 out of 5 stars Jeanette MacDonald Was Unique.......2001-03-12

It really doesn't matter whether or not she could sing; Jeanette MacDonald was unique. On these old recordings, her voice sounds thin and watery, and contemporary tastes do not respond so readily to the sentimentality and predictability of her movies. But she was a gracious lady and glittering presence on the silver screen. These film songs do suggest the excitement she generated when her movies first appeared. And how many truly major singers she inspired! Joan Sutherland recalled meeting MacDonald a few years before her death. Said Sutherland: "I still had stars in my eyes."

5 out of 5 stars An excellent demonstration of Jeanette MacDonald's artistry.......1998-12-18

The highlights of this Jeanette MacDonald CD include her excellent singing of Delibes' "Les Filles de Cadiz," the Bach-Gounod "Ave Maria," and the "Jewel Song" from "Faust." A much-underrated artist, MacDonald proves here that she can handle a wide range of music, from concert songs and opera arias to familiar tunes from her operetta films. Particularly fine are her renditions of "Only a Rose," and Herbert's "Romany Life" (in spite of an amateurish male chorus). Highly recommended not only as a tribute to filmdom's first lady of song, but also to listeners who enjoy both opera and musical comedy.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Very pleasant and well gathered songs.......with an italian touch...........2007-05-16

This Compact reveals a little bit more of Dean's talent and good voice.
I do not get tired of listening it. The sound quality is also good.

3 out of 5 stars Mr. Tadeusz Z. has a good point!.......2007-02-10

I can understand what "Mr. Tadeusz Z." was trying to tell us with his previous review...and he's technically correct here, that is if you're a very conscious listener. In other words, the sound is "stinging" and artificial. And so...I don't think Dean had it meant to sound this way when he recorded it back in 1961...and I don't think it naturally sounded this way in it's original form...BUT, with GREAT RESPECT for Dean, this album is still great.
What they should have done, in my opinion, was just to refurbish the NATURAL SOUND of the vinyl recordings instead of remastering it...this would probably make
the sound more natural and original. MY ULTIMATE SUGGESTION: BUY THE SEPARATE CD'S OF "DINO ITALIAN LOVE SONGS" AND "CHA CHA DE AMOR" WHICH WERE RELEASED JUST LAST YEAR. THEY ARE THE CLOSEST TO BEING THE MOST NATURAL IN SOUND QUALITY. Rating: 3 stars only because of the lack of originality and naturalness in sound. But, more than 5 stars because Dean is singing them. - John, Southern California.

2 out of 5 stars Reisssued and remassstered, ssso what'sss the result?.......2007-01-20

This EMI100 edition is an example of the case, how the latest technology (namely CEDAR & Sonic Solutions Technology at Abbey Road Studios) may damage spirit and sound of recordings from the early sixties. The result of technology applied here for digitalization of vinyl recordings is terrible. The sound of all these beautiful songs is clinically pure and ARTIFICIAL. Audiophile-grade Wolfson output DACs of my Harman/Kardon DVD-22 and Yamaha natural sound amplifier (with Dali loudspeakers) bare the weakness of CEDAR & SS Technology and/or the bungle of Abbey Road sound engineers! With all knobs set in neutral position the high frequencies strongly predominate in these recordings and all sibilants (sss!) as well as string and brass instruments sting the ears unpleasantly. For all those who remember Dino's songs as full of WARMTH, the sound from this CD may be shocking and disappointing. Therefore I do not recommend it. Better try the other Dino's remastered recordings (e.g. Italian Love Songs by Capitol; 24-Bit digitally remastered at Capitol Mastering) where the sound is of good quality and is not spoiled by any CEDAR device.
POST SCRIPTUM
It's a pity that none of the previous reviewers had such a good point (emphasized by A Dino Fan) before. Otherwise I could save a few bucks and nerves. I understand the adoration of Artists like Dino or Elvis, but music CDs were invented just for listening, not for placing them on the altar. This CD is certainly NOT for listening. Dino plays here the second part, crowded by the orchestra and chorus. Even his voice is not natural. I can justify the doting upon Dino, but why does it affect your ears?
And one more thing that makes me crazy here: songs from both original LPs placed on this CD were numbered SEPARATELY (!?) on the cover (see my image), i.e. Italian Love Songs: 1-12, and Cha Cha de Amor again 1-12. Bravo! (for the creator of this new fashion). While selecting songs from Cha Cha de Amor with numeric keys you always have to practise arithmetic and remember to add 12 to their numbers. Not very complicated, but...
I can also understand those who dislike Cha Cha part here. Indeed, all these beautifull standards (I love you for sentimental reasons, Amor, I love you much too much, etc.) arranged after one fashion (all with the same cha cha motif repeated by aggressive, husky brass section, not acceptable with this remastering profile) create the feeling of monotony and weariness. The marriage of them and Italian love songs was, in my opinion, not a good idea.
Thus, according to John's advice, I'm going to try Dino!Italian Love Songs (+4 bonus), but full of experiences with this CD will certainly not try another Cha cha !

5 out of 5 stars Possibly the best Dino album.......2005-10-09

If you are Dino fan like I am, then you have to place "Italian Love Songs" among his best. The mood of the album is exquisite and infectious. No wonder this was his best selling Capital album. The performance that the producers of his Capital albums were able to get out of Dino was a step above those of his Reprise albums. In this particular case, the right mix of instrumentation and Dino's voice creates an absolutely incredible experience for the listener. This is one album I would take if stranded on the perverbial deserted island. Let yourself relax sometime, put on this album and just take it all in. If you really listen to the nuances of this album, you can't help but feel it's one of his best (if not one of the best all time crooner albums). My wife and I fell in love to this album and we still play it during our anniversary trips to our honeymoon spot. I am sad that the only Reprise album that even comes close to this one is Dream with Dean (another of my Dino favorites of course). If you are a Dino fan or just a true romantic at heart, then this album is for you. Oh and in case you thought I forgot, Cha Cha D'Amor is a fun listen also. Thanks for reading!

5 out of 5 stars A sentimental value & personal favorite.......2002-07-15

I was a small kid when I first heard this album
(actually, a reel-to-reel tape). And today, when
I'm a grown-up, I can't help notice how "timeless"
this album can be. I will always treasure this CD.
This CD is truly WONDERFUL! By the way, I'm the
same fella who wrote the review on Oct. 17...see!
I told you so!...that's how good this CD is...
I also recommend "Dino latino/french style" -
that's my "counterpoint" or equal favorite
to this CD...It's not really a sentimental
favorite YET because it is only this year
that I actually heard it.

5 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE TECHNIQUE, PHRASING,TONE.......2007-06-28

I don't know what music the first comment was referring to when he said she doesn't have good tone. Amanda Pepping is superb in every aspect of her playing. Fast, articulate, great phrasing, technique, and tonal quality. He needs to get his trumpet out and match what she does. (If he even plays at all). I think he can probably play "Twinkle, twinkle, little star".

3 out of 5 stars Very good technique....tone...no.......2005-10-21

She's got some very impressive technique, especially from what you hear on the first track...all that rapid firing! wow

But when you talk about tone, which I believe is the essence of trumpet playing, she does not produce a rich enough tone

If you want to listen to INSANE technique while still retaining a beautiful tone, listen to Maurice Andre, his Carnival of Venice was quite impressive

    5 out of 5 stars Wow.......2005-09-20

Amanda Pepping is most definitely in the elite company of the small sorority of female trumpet virtuosi. Brava!
