Editorial Reviews
The debut album 'Equiibria' from hotly tipped Rio singer-songwriter Sabrina Malheiros brings with it a sublime mix of bossas and sambas with touches of hip-hop, r 'n' b and electronica, 'Equilibria' combines timeless Brazilian song writing with contemporary electronics and beats to produce this years hottest Brazilian debut.
The daughter of Alex Malheiros from the legendary Brazilian group Azymuth, Sabrina wrote the majority of the tracks at home with her father giving 'Equilibria' a warm, intimate vibe. The combination of Sabrina's youthful exuberance and Alex's 30 years of song-writing experience make for an accomplished debut.
As the name suggests, 'Equilibria', is the perfect mix - classic Brazilian song writing combined with contemporary production, guaranteeing this album appeal for both established Far Out fans as well as those people into the sound of 'Nu-Brazilâ'. "I think that this is the first contemporary Brazilian album of the last 15 years that measures up to the classic Brazilian albums of the past", adds producer Venom. We think you'll agree with him!

Good Debut!.......2005-08-11
This CD starts out well with "Terra De Ninguem", a nice little bossa nova influenced cut that dances and glides with a light flute and arrangement. "Love Sorte" kicks with a bit of bossa and percussion while giving a hint of Berimbau in it (as did a few others). "Vibrasom" is where you get a hint of the hip-hop/R&B influences that influenced her - cute song altough I'll wonder how time-less it'll be; always the risk with random added grunts, etc. "Passa" is another one that's similar but it's got a good groove to it although I prefer the remixes on the 12". Other cuts that I enjoyed were the original take to the cut given an explosive remix by Kenny Dope (available on 12" too), "Estacao Verao", and the VERY fitting remake to an old Ana Mazzotti classic, "Eu Sous Mais Eu". That one shouldn't be too surprising - Azymuth had a heavy hand in Ana Mazzotti's album back in the mid seventies and with them working with Sabrina here, they managed to capture much of that same magic that existed then. Then there are other cuts here that I enjoyed but don't want to mention them ALL.
I certainly recommend this! It's got an interesting vibe to it and Sabrina's voice is adorable to me. The album wasn't without a misstep or two - "Equilibria" wasn't one that grabbed me, for example. But there's enough strong songs here to carry it through and make me REALLY look forward to her next album and future 12" that she'll inevitably feature on with other Far-Out musicians and groups. If you dig this, you should definitely check out other Far Out artist as mentioned before along with Incognito's works, Rosalia De Souza's "Garota Moderna", Bebel Gilberto's "Tanto Tempo" (that one was more experimental to me), A Bossa Eletrica and a little group called 'Vertente' that's also off of the Far Out catalogue.
