Customer Reviews:
A nice compilation..........2004-12-28
It could have included a wider time span, and more music genres. In my opinion a jukebox should be more varied. Having said that it has some excellent songs, and the sound is good.
Turns Your CD Player Into a Jukebox.......2001-04-05
It's a nice mix: the very best from Brits like the Kinks, Spencer Davis (with a young Steve Winwood doing the wailing), the Zombies and the Troggs. "Pretty Flamingo" is a decent left-field choice from Manfred Mann, but the Cliff Bennett version of the Beatles' "Got To Get You Into My Life" is horrid, maybe the only dud here.
It's also hard to quibble with most of the rest: "Heard It Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye is just about the best Motown classic of the '60s, while "Jimmy Mack" and "Soothe Me" are nice surprises from Martha and the Vandellas and Sam and Dave, respectively.
The greasy 50's hits seem weirdly out of place on this mostly '60s vintage set, although "Runaway" and "Be-Bop-A-Lula" are classics, as is Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love?". So are the rock instrumentals "Rumble" and "Rebel Rouser."
Perhaps the only down side to this CD is its length: it should'a been longer, much longer. And -- now this is purely a regional complaint -- no jukebox should be without a selection from Hank Williams, Patsy Cline or George Jones. It would have been tough to fit in the format, but there's enough great stuff here so you won't really notice.
Bottom line: despite the quibbles, you can dance to this from start to end, even without beer.
