Rivero has played the bandoneon, or square-headed accordion, since he was a child. Now an internationally known master, he performs 24 traditional Uruguayan dance pieces here in the transparent and natural style he prefers, without electronic modification. 25 tracks recorded in 1991; includes an 80-page booklet.

Desde que era un niño, Rivero ha tocado el bandoneón, ese acordeón de cabeza hexagonal tan apreciado en el cono sur. Ahora, siendo un reconocido maestro del instrumento a nivel internacional, nos presenta 24 danzas tradicionales interpretadas aquí en el su acostumbrado estilo, transparente y natural, sin ninguna modificación electrónica. Los 25 cortes de este CD fueron grabados en 1991; incluye un cuadernillo de 80 páginas.

This is a very good CD performed by a first-rate bandoneon player and excellent musician and scholar. This uruguayan bandoneon player has traveled around the world with his wonderful interpretations and this CD is a perfect opportunity to enjoy Marino Rivero's art and to learn about uruguayan music as well as to listen to his special instrument which was acquired in 1930 and maintainted exactly as it came from the factory in Germany.

I attended one of Marino Rivero's recitals in Punta del Este, Uruguay and whether interpreting Bach or a piece of uruguayan tango, he always shows off as a first- rate artist. All his CDs are highly recommendable.

Tango at its best.......2001-01-26

Sexteto Mayor has moved the old tango to today's music values, without loosing the essence of the tango, the 2x4 rythm. It combines then two things, highly professionally executed music with the virtues of the Argentine tango. A perfect combination. Even if you are not a tango fan, you should not miss this one. This CDs reflects a performance that has today over 500 presentations around the globe, from China to Albulquerque, from Turkey to San Diego, and has performed in the best theatres and music center around the world. Do not miss it.

Mixed emotions.......2000-07-20

I admit it, when it comes to tango, I tend to be a purist. Therefore, I still have a hard time accepting many of the latest "fusion" trends such as certain songs found in this CD which are not real tangos [e.g. "Ojos negros" a traditional Russian song, played in a tango tune] as well as the "bilingual" versions of some traditional tangos (sung with a pathetic accent, reminiscent of the early days of Julio Iglesias, I might add!)] The orchestra however, sounds wonderful, exceptionally balanced and very assertive.

Sexteto Mayor has been known for years in Argentina as being some of the best in tango interpreting and playing. This production meets all expections. This is Argentinian Tango at its best. Great examples were chosen for this CD, I buy it often to give to friends that want to know about my Argentinian origins.

This compilation brings more exquisite tango music sung by the greatest tango singer of all times.

Gardel voice is brought to life in this recordings thanks to nimbus records superb technology, music played by gardel guitarrist sound clear and more detailed than previous compilations.

This album as well as Vol.1 is a must for every Gardel lover or music enthusiast, you won't regret this album if yopu are an early opera singer lover.

Gardel is a natural baritone with perfect intonation, musicality and sense for drama and passion, you will be impress even if you don't speak spanish.

David Tanenbaum articulates every note of Mr. Piazzolla's compositions perfectly. I've sought out further interpretations of the same pieces of music and found none so moving as El Porteno. In my humble opinion, Mr. Tanenbaum speaks, fluently, the language that best communicates the compositions contained on this recording of Astor Piazzolla's work.
