Customer Reviews:
The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra needs a guitar player!.......2006-11-09
Granted, they only need it for one composition (the last one, "The James Bond Theme") but still, without the guitar it's just not the same. Barry didn't compose this one so I suppose it was a bonus and I shouldn't complain, really. The rest of the music on all the CDs is fantastic. Some of the stuff I had heard before without realizing who had composed it. Very enjoyable, to say the least.
Persuaders Theme!.......2006-03-02
Buy it for the Persuaders theme, probably the best TV theme song ever written.
A Variety Of Classics!.......2005-12-06
John Barry has been composing film scores for over forty years and this is only scratching the surface of his productions. Never mind that the entire set is recorded by the Prague Philharmonic; it's pure to Barry's themes. While John Williams compositions ("Star Wars", etc.) are wild and flamboyant and Jerry Goldsmith's (Hoosier's, etc.) are mood pieces, John Barry crosses over all barriers and is amazingly diverse. Barry has recorded most of the exciting James Bond themes, melodramatic classics like "The Lion In Winter' and moody theme hits like "Midnight Cowboy". He also tugs at the heartstrings with compositions from, "Somewhere In Time", "Frances" and "Out Of Africa". He varies his themes for all types of films and few composers capture it so well.
There is over four hours of music in this set with a colorful and informative booklet.
Incredible Barry Collection.......2004-03-11
Any fan of movies will absolutley love this collection. Being a movie buff I couldn't wait to get this boxed set. Knowing Barry from all the James Bond movies, I did not realize his involvement with so many others. The orchestra is magnificent in all these themes. I'm listening to "High Road to China" right now and I'm drifting in the clouds in a Tiger Moth with Tom Selleck and Bess Armstrong. If you are familiar with a movie it will definitely have you seeing it again, if not the scores are still beautiful. Any fan of classical music will be pleased as well. Travellers will defintitely enjoy it for a long drive. I know from when I use to travel that music like this made the miles float by faster. I highly recommend these four CDs even if you just know a handful of the songs.

Wow Wow Wow!.......2005-10-21
People People People. You have to buy this Album immediately. I am officially a Darwin Hobbs fan. I have Darwin's last 2 cd's and I like them alot but this Album sent my heart to a place of worship that I haven't been in a long time. Love it! Love it! Love it!
My personal favorite is track #4. Which is a medley of Come let us sing/He is exalted. If I could give it a 10 rating I would.
I've been waiting for this..........2005-10-19
I have been waiting for this album to come out for the longest. I wasn't sure if he was going to come out with one after he had a heart problem. But it came out and now it's here! I've been hoping Darwin would do a praise and worship album, because on Broken he had 2 good worship songs that I liked. He also had a medley of worship on the album before that. I had wanted to hear more of that style from him and sure enough he came out with one.
Isreal Houghton and Aaron Lindsey did a good job producing this album to match the music to his vocal style. My favorite song on the album is "Better Is One Day", which was a very good rendition. It almost has that live jazzy feel to it. I like his comtemporary, studio recorded song too which is "Grace".
So here's another good album to add to your praise and worship collection.
His Best Work Yet!.......2005-10-07
This album is awesome. Every song is done very well. I've played this album at least twice a day since I purchased it. He is by far becoming my favorite Gospel male singer.
Very blessed album!!.......2005-10-03
It was a big step for Darwin Hobbs to use live instrumental arraingments on this new album, but it worked!! I was so blessed by the "re-discovery" of Mr. Hobbs after I had (horrible) written him off as a another studio voice with good production. I was wrong. He has got the goods and they are on display in this new album.
There are only a few songs on the album cover, but don't worry, you will be rewarded. The tone and pacing of the album is superb as well as the overall vocals.
This album is a must have for any Christian who enjoys being ushered into the presence of God with a spirit of rejoycing!!
The cd is still new to me, but I already have a few favorites. Great work Mr. Hobbs!! Keep going higher in the Lord!!

Customer Reviews:
Darwin!.......2003-02-02
I would not compare this album to the works of either Premiata Forneria Marconi or Le Orme. While PFM, a great group, is quite different in style, Le Orme's widely praised Felona e Sorona presents nothing extraordinary and the band itself is a pretty mediocre musical enterprise. Darwin is a masterpiece. Brilliant work, it's a step above the BMS's first eponymous album. The structure of the compositions is more complex and some influence of Gentle Giant can be seen in the rhythmical switches and melody turns. L'Evoluzione and La Conquista are certain favorites, but also listen to Cento Mani, Cento Occhi, it's an excellent piece. The balladic 750,000 Anni Fa is beautiful but too simplistic and rather atypical for them. Misere Alla Storia with sinister-sounding Di Giacomo is as close to Italian opera as it could be (in that part only), great track. The last piece, Ed Ora, in barrel-piano style creates atmosphere of last-century Italy as we know it from films. Their musical dexterity really shines throughout the entire album. Darwin and their third album are probably their best efforts.
Only one of the greatest Italian prog albums.......2002-10-04
Banco's second album is a real grower and is a totally amazing masterpiece of Italian prog. The album's production and music has improved over their debut, released earlier the same year as Darwin! in 1972. The synthesizers are much more present as well. The band continues on the same classically-influenced, duo keyboards from the Nocenzi brothers and the semi-operatic voice of Francesco di Giacomo. Darwin! is a concept album about evolution and the rejection of Creationism. Unlike the original LPs of their previous album and their following (Io Sono Nato Libero), which were issued in gimmick packaging, the original LP of Darwin! was issued in normal gatefold packaging. Anyway, the album opens up with "L'Evoluzione" which is totally amazing. It's the longest piece on the album, and it's stuffed with great themes and solos. Some of the passages reminds me a little of ELP, or even Gentle Giant, for that matter. The next cut, the largely instrumental "La Conquista Della Posizione Eretta" is totally stunning. The synth sound has gotta be heard to be believed, it just sounds so dramatic and big. This cut alone is what made Banco one of the greats of Italian prog. I am also reminded of "Metamorfosi" from their previous album, as it's structured similarly: as about three quarters of the cut consists of lengthy solos, then the end part ends with vocals, only I think the vocal section here works better than on "Metamorfosi". "Danza dei Grandi Rettili" is a instrumental jazzy piece, rather laid-back, sounding a little different from what I'm accustomed to from Banco. There's an amazing ballad, "750.000 Anni Fa... L'Amore" which is by far the best Banco ballad I ever heard. "Miserere Alla Storia" tends to have a rather sinister atmosphere, while the last cut, "Ed Ora Io Domando Tempo al Tempo Ed Egli Mi Risponde... Non Ne Ho!" has a rather carousel waltz-like feel that sounds very Italian. I like the use of harpsichord and reed organ on that cut. I took me a few more listens to appreciate than Io Sono Nato Libero, but in the end, I feel Darwin! is just as great and essential. This album is right up there with Museo Rosenbach's Zarathustra, Le Orme's Felona e Sorona, PFM's Per Un Amico, Osanna's Palepoli, Cervello's Melos, and of course Banco's Io Sono Nato Libero, as far as Italian prog goes, so if you enjoy Italian prog, Darwin! is absolutely essential!
3.5 stars.......2002-02-03
This recording is an improvement over the strong but flawed debut B.D.M.S. Where it has yet to reach the levels of the next recording Io Sono Nato Libero it is still quite good throughout. As with the debut there are odd moments where the band loses all sight of any sense of melody and gets lost in abstract composition. Still, it always manages to return to that which make the outfit exceptional; strong musicianship, keen melodic sense and powerful vocals. This disc is well worth getting but Io Sono Nato Libero and Come In Ultima Cena are much better...Simon
Maravilloso.......2001-06-14
A Very Beautiful Second Album.......2001-06-06
I give this disc a five star rating simply because B.M.S. is one of my all-time favourite bands;so call me biased! Seriously speaking, this recording shows a slightly more mature band than the one that recorded their first LP only months before this.As the title suggests, this record deals with man's evolution, with all lyrics in Italian. The opening tune,"L'Evoluzione" opens slowly, and progresses in a manner not unlike that of "Il Giardino Del Mago" on their first album. Beautifully melodic keyboard solos,(courtesy of the brothers Nocenzi),are the order of the day here. The next piece, the 8-minute-plus "L'Conquista Della Posizione Eretta" sounds in places like a spaghetti western, but is nonetheless mesmerising;model perhaps as an up-date on "Metamorfosi" from their previous record. The rest of the CD is composed of shorter pieces in the five minute range, highlighted by the haunting and mysterious "750,000 Anni Fa...L'Amore?" featuring some of the sweetest singing that lead vocalist Francesco Di Giacomo has ever commited to tape. All in all the band is in fine form, and while this recording has its flaws, they are obviously poised to launch their next effort IO SONO NATO LIBERO.The future looked bright indeed...and you didn't even have to wear shades!

Darwin Strikes Again!!!.......2004-01-15
This album just lets us further know how limitless this brother's talent really is. This album has something on it for the young, the not-so-young-anymore, the young-at-heart, and the saints. Broken is a definite must-have for your gospel music library. GO GET IT!!!! and get ready for your blessing!!
Love the worship songs.......2003-12-01
This is definitely a good junior album for Darwin. What made me really like Darwin in the first place, was his second album and he had a worship song on it, that I loved, making me want to hear more of that style from him. Now he came out with his third album and has three worship songs that helps me to become more intimate with God. It's a great album! I also like "Nobody Like Jesus", it's a good praise song that can lead into worship.
Something about it!!!.......2003-03-26
My wife and I got the chance to get the album after he came to our church. I'll tell you hands down this album is awesome. "Nobody like Jesus" is one of my favorite cuts. Also "Unexplainable", "Thank you" is something that gets my wife going. Don't get me wrong I love the whole album. Trust me this album gets you going and gets you excited about the Lord. I'll tell you there is no shame in praising his name.
good! phat!.......2003-02-05
This is a good cd so far. Darwin Hobbs can really sing. sounds a little like Luther lol. I like the duet with Shirley Murdock.
Superb job.......2003-01-29
I'm not sure if I am the first person to review this album, but I know I won't be the last. Man, let me tell you....Darwin Hobbs is awesome! To top it off, he worked with top rate producers throughout the entirety of the project(i.e.-Kevin Bond, Tommy Sims, Mike City-who wrote a song for Brandy). This album will not allow you to keep it to yourself. You'll want to go and tell a friend. His song with Shirley Murdock, "Nobody Like Jesus", is a beautiful ballad that is sure to have your hands in the air. "Break Me/Draw Me" may have you in tears by the time he finishes with it. It speaks of our need for God to shape us, mold us, and make us better than what we are. Hobbs is at his best when worship is going forth. It's incredible. "The Light" is a tight little funk groove that is sure to get heads bobbing. I don't have the cover with me, but I think Tommy Sims penned this one. Phat!! "Unexplainable" is another little groove that has deep meaning. It proclaims that God is always confounding us and when we think we have him figured out, he does something else totally mind-blowing. Darwin even has a song to his wife, "Beautiful to Me", which may be a selection in every wedding this spring and summer. It's a really nice song. As I said before, all the producers are top notch and there's even one guy who plays the drums, bass, and keys on one song. Wish I could do that. Anyway, Darwin just seems to get better and better with each project. To top it off, he's even lost a little weight. The more I hear him the more he sounds like a hybrid mix of Michael McDonald and Luther Vandross. He is quickly becoming one of my favorite solo artists. I don't think this album is better than Smokie Norful's, but it's not running too far behind. Wonderful mix of Praise & Worship, Funk/R&B, and good-ol Gospel Music. Definitely a must have and that's why I give it an A+. Be Blessed
P.S.-That's enough writing..I'm going to get back to my CD now

When I look up!.......2005-09-10
I must admit, I don't usually go for this type of music. I had to get this CD after discovering my all time favourite singer, Donna Summer, featured on a song. I thought that song, and maybe a couple others would be good, and the rest filler.
Was I wrong or what!! Darwin Hobbs is a gospel singer who sounds somewhat like Luther Vandross, and his style is straight R&B, very well produced.
Opening track `Everyday' is a great introduction to this CD. Featuring Michael McDonald (whose voice I love), it is a very happy, upbeat, groovy dance number, extolling God's goodness everyday.
The Luther connection is even more pronounced on the next track, a cover of Luther's beautiful ballad `So Amazing', which stays remarkably true to the original, but with God slipped in here and there. Great backing vocals from gospel girl group Virtue. Darwin sounds exactly like Luther on this song.
`Deeper' is another upbeat funky number. About wanting to go deeper with God.
Next up is the mid tempo `Cast all your cares', with lyrics about casting all our cares onto The Lord, done as a song from God to us. Some retro sounding organ on this one. The final 2 or so minutes take on a gospel choir fervor. Great!
`Just singing of you' is a beautiful ballad about how he loves just singing of You!!! Again, some great organ playing, and some Kirk Franklyn style choir on this one.
Then comes my reason for getting this CD. `When I look up' is a beautiful ballad with birds tweeting at the beginning, giving a feel of nature, and lyrics about how we need God to fill the hole inside of us. When I look up/I look to Christ/who fills my cup. Donna Summer is stunning on this song with her rich vocals, and Darwin more than holds his own too.
`My promise to you' is a deeply moving ballad. Again, done as a song from God to us. We can always count on God coming through, that's his promise to us. He'll never give us more than we can bear. Beautiful, and much needed hope for running this race on earth.
`A medley of worship' surprisingly turned out to be my favourite song. An absolutely stunning ballad which comprises `You are my hiding place', `Great is your mercy', `El Shaddai' and , `You are holy', with a powerful prayer spoken. Delicate instrumentation, lush strings, tender piano tinklings, an excellent backing choir, and a stellar performance from Darwin. A worthy offering to The Lord.
Closing the CD on an upbeat note is `Crown him lord' (song title says it all) a stomping horn laden dance song with a great joyous sounding choir.
Superb!
The Luther of Gospel.......2003-09-16
What an amazing voice! This is one of my favourite Gospel CD that I listen to every Sunday to put me in a mellow frame of mind. All of the songs are great and I would recommend you to spend your money on this CD. It is worth it!
Annointed!!.......2003-05-07
Outstanding! You can hear in the words of every song that he loves the Lord. I have been truly blessed by this album.
Awesome voice.......2003-01-16
Darwin Hobbs is an awesome talent in the gospel music industry. This album is truly a great collaboration of song material. Starting with the first cut "Everyday". I have always been a fan of Michael McDonald ever since childhood. So, that made this song even better. I love "Singing of You" and it's one of my favorites. The melody just soothes the soul and put's you in a mode of worship. The "Worship Medley"....what can I say? This is Darwin at his best. This cut is just magnificent. As a matter of fact, I just listened to it about 5 times before I came into work this morning. "Deeper" is a tight little groove kind of on the R&B tip. Just a little somethin somethin to getcha head bobbing. "So Amazing" of course sounds like Luther Vandross stepped in on some of the vocals. I can definitely hear the similarities. "Crown Him Lord" is a very fitting end to this wonderful Praise and Worship experience. It's exuberant chant of "Crown Him Lord" just makes you want to leap to your feet. I look forward to Darwin's next project, and I hope he takes it to another level. He's got his work cut out for him if he's going to top this one. Overall I give this album an A. I would have given it an A+, but there were two cuts on the album-Track 6&7-that I did not like as much as the others.
Outstanding CD.......2002-06-27
This is one of the best CD's that I have ever purchased in my life. I initially purchased it for one song (Everyday)which I like so, so very much, but as I listened to each of the songs, I discovered that this entire CD is absolutely awesome. Very seldom do you find a CD where every song captures your attention...but this one does. I love it so much. I have had it for about 2 weeks, and I listen to it everyday. It is my favorite CD. Darwin Hobbs does such a great job with variety on this CD. I just can't say enough about it. Do yourself a favor and buy it. YOU WILL HAVE NO REGRETS!
An extremely happy fan...Jae Lee/Atlanta, GA

Customer Reviews:
Sensational artist "a Flush Waiting for an Ace".......2007-05-27
Just got it and listen to it like 5 times. "The Earth Sharp Edge" also album's tittle, plus basically all of the album is incredibly good. He has guest playing a spanish guitar mixed with his acoustic and electric guitars, cellos mixing with his piano, keyboard, and guitars. Incredibly good mixes. Actually Scott can play all instruments, guitars, bass, piano, keybords, drums, and play them with excellence. Last song "My Time" is just him on piano and honestly is like icing on a great cake. His composition skills both music and lyric are quite good, just hear the lyrics to "Animated Objects". He has an excellent touch for catchy rhythems all done with great taste and beat. This is a cd you'll enjoy, and will put a smile in your face.

Some of Trip Hop's best.......2003-12-20
I've had this CD for a few years now and I consider it an essential part of my binder. My favorite songs on the album are "The Beat Goes On" by Basco, "Terminal Intensity" by Wizard of Oh and "Weekend Starts Here" by Fatboy Slim. I used to hear the Basco track at raves back in the day and it sounded a lot better at a faster tempo, but its still a good track. The Wizard of Oh track sounds in some ways similar to my all time favorite Prodigy song, Poison, and the Fatboy Slim track sounds similar to a once popular Snoop Doggy Dogg song. This album was made around the same time so the DJ's and producers were using the same machines. Its interesting to hear how different ideas materialized using the same medium. This is definitely not to say that these songs are a rip off of other commercial hits. As for "Nothing Like Tomorrow" thats my least favorite song on this album and I don't feel it even belongs on here. I skip this track every time I get to it. I just cant stand the bassline. I'm not an authority on the matter, but I don't think that track even qualifies as Trip Hop.
The Oversoul Song.......2001-03-26
Please ignore the rating, but if you listen to the sample the song "Nothing Like Tomorrow" and really like it, or if you have the CD and really like that song check out the band "Supreme Beings of Leisure" because it sounds like it is them under a different name. Their debut is self-titled and pretty good. In fact a different version of "Nothin' like Tomorrow" appears on it. I don't think they sound at all like Portishead-- Much more upbeat.
Is missing something.......2000-06-11
In my opinion, this CD is a all right but needs to be listened to couple of times before you can really start to appreciate it. It doesn't have anything that really grabs your attention at the first time so it is a potential for one of those CD's that is forgotten after a while. It is also missing the depth to it and is all to alike. I liked Nothing Like Tomorrow - Oversoul 7 the most. It reminded me of Portishead and was the only song that really got to me. It had a mysterious sound to it and by listening to it you feel like you are drifting away. I am an avid fan of music that gets deep into the soul and has a beautiful sound. Most of the other songs on the CD were too alike to each other. I personally prefer more variety I would recommend this CD if you have patience and are ready to listen to it couple of times before you start liking it. I have to admit that I do not know much about the other music they have made so I wouldn't be able to compare it to that so I will leave it to say that I am willing to keep this CD but I would not invest in any others without prior listening.

wow, totally awesome, super original.......2006-05-18
ok, so i got this cd years ago when it came out, and i loved it as soon as i listened to it! lyrically they are fantastic, and the guitars/drums/bass, all of it is wonderful. They do their own thing (which was a BEFORE linkin park thing) of having a singer and a raspy sounding rapper/screamer... their style is their own, and it all comes together quite nicely. I know that its hard to find a cd that i can listen to over and over, and out of about 1,500 CDs that i have, there are only about 20 of those... and this is one of them! I cant really explain them, but they are a magnificent band, and i wish they were still around...
FAVORITE SONGS:
Into the Dark - lyrics are great, the bass is freakishly cool sounding, the mixing of the rapguy and the singer is awesome... the breakdown w/ screaming for the chorus is cool.
Sometimes it Happens like this - DEFINETLY my FAVORITE SONG OFF OF THIS CD!!! just a mellow beat with soft echoing guitars in the background and the rapper guy is going at it! then the guitars cut in harder, slowly... and the singer chimes in then it just hits hard and rocks with screaming and total bada$$ness!
Live for the Moment - Another great song... really "Rage against the machine" guitars! raspy rapping, good rage guitars, awesome song all around.
New sound and GREAT talent.......2005-11-29
I saw these guy's on Ozzfest a few years back and was mezmorized by their show and the sound of the songs. Their show was so full of energy that people started leaving the main stage area to go to the side stage to watch them. The best songs are #1, #3, #5 (rediculously good) #6 & #11.
With the bland, stagnant sound coming from most radio rock, these guys are excellent.
gets stale.......2005-06-05
i was very exicted eith this cd when i first got it but now it sounds stale and boring standout tracks-feel so stupid, live for the moment, all i have is me(best song),another way.
.......umm no.......2005-05-09
band sounds too much like other bands... and not even the good ones. take poor white rapper that cant even rap well and mix it up with bad rock
like Linkin Park? umm no..........2005-04-08
Okay...well I'm a big fan of Linkin Park. I understand that their style isn't for everyone, and wasn't for me for a long time. I love heavy music, heavy metal...but Linkin grew on me with their sound and talent.
Everyone saying you will love these guys if you love Linkin Park is full of it. Mike Shinoda (guitar, vocals, Emcee) of Linkin Park, has a voice about 50 times better than the "emcee" of Darwin. The Darwin guy sounds like he should be in damn Beastie Boys.
They have some catchy songs that wouldn't be bad at all if it wasn't for this guy who ruins any chance. Guitars are basic, but decent sounding. Band resembles Limp Bizkit much more than Linkin if any comparision...but is most like another small band, Lifer.
