In making The Sound of Om, Barquee traveled to Calcutta to record with some of the greatest living Indian musicians. This lends a rare authenticity to such a diverse recording. Nothing monumental.......2007-01-04

There wasn't anything really new in this particular CD from other chanting CDs. The intention was nice (gave him a star for that), but the voice lacked strength and resonance which is what makes the chanting really come alive for me. Not top in it's class, probably won't give it a third or fourth play.

Okay, but "Missa" was better..........2006-02-23

I liked this CD, and it has it's moments. However, Missa was definitely better, I thought. Definitely more memorable than this latest installation from Barquee. If you like Barquee, you will probably enjoy this CD, but don't expect too much. After Missa, my expectations were too high going into The Sound of OM, so I have to admit to a little disappointment with this one.

I have bought the other two cds of Thomas Barquee and I found Thomas Barquee one of the most talent artists of this century! He has an unique voice and a powerfull vision how people will react when they hear his music. This cd "The Sound of Om" is wonderfull in every aspect and a treasury to have in your cds collection. The music is heavenly chanted and the mantras words of inmense power, chanted with passion and inner peace. The track that I like the most is the number 2, it is, I think, one of the most beatifull piece of music that I listenned in the past years. I also recommend to buy "Temple" and "Missa" in adiction to this cd. I await with great expectation the next release of this interesting composer!

The Dweller Within.......2003-12-16

"Barquee has a unique talent and ability for melding the sounds of the classical Indian instruments with a flavor of distinction from the west. I truly enjoyed the blend of instrumentation in this CD. My favorite was track 5 - Om Sri Rama Jaya Rama Jaya Jaya Rama. The sweetness of the sound appealed to my inner self. Also the instrumentation leading into track 6 - Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo made the energy run up my spine and filled my body with a sense of gratitude. I would really love to have him produce an instrumental CD to take you through the sun salutations to a meditation and relaxation. Sometimes I want to separate the energy of mantra and music for my practice of sun salutations.

I adore his productions with other artists in the Game of Chants, Prem, and Shanti. The team effort of these talented artists has produced the recordings of my favorite mantras coming from the writings of the Sikh Gurus in the divine language of Gurmukhi.

Best Mantra CD I've listened to.......2003-12-12

"This is by far the best mantra CD I have listened to. I love every song on the CD. You can easily chant/sing along with the music. Each song takes you on a different journey. The song that touches me the most is the first one on the track which is called" Om Maha Devaya Namaha". I feel so spiritually uplifted after chanting along with the song. Each instrument is so beautifully played, especially the flute. The mixture of Western and Indian music blends so well together that you cannot help feeling very moved and connected to the universe. I really can't say enough about this wonderful CD. It is a definite must for your spiritual CD collection. Even my husband who loves hard rock enjoyed listening to "the sound of OM. Wisdom and Humor.......2006-12-14

This is one of the best Alan Watts CDs. I have heard it hundreds of times and it never gets boring. Alan Watts was one of the greatest philosopers and Zen and Buddhist philosophy experts of the last century. The sound of his voice alone, even if you would not understand the words is transmitting so much wisdom and humor... I never get tired of listening to him and I have been listening to Alan Watts for 23 years!!!

AWESOME! Something very different is going on with Christopher Love, I am not sure how to say it but I am buying more and more of his CDs. I can not get enough of them. 15 so far and I am not planning on slowing down. Each CD is a new adventure in healing. I have bought probably another dozen or so as gifts. I am giving them to everyone I know. I want everyone to experience Christopher Love.

After a Latin jazz remix of Little Louie Vega's "Elements of Life," Wyatt throws a curveball with Isolee's Beau Mot Plage. Lo-fi and even a bit noodly, this track is sure to have his house disciples scratching their heads. Recovering nicely from this passage into geekier realms, Wyatt brings everything back to the warm, soft center for which he is known best with a mellow groove from Saudacao Aos Orixas. This cd captures an alive and colorful time in House Music. It's timeless, soulful and FUN to listen/dance to. I recommend his 'For those who like to get down' cd also. It picks up where this cd leaves off. PAZ!

If you want the same old love gone bad diva with a one word name disco cheese dodo, don't buy this album. It kicks from beginning 'till the end with real music done house style. To the folks who who can't figure it out, I don't know what to say...........

What Are People Talking About?.......2002-07-08

I've been reading the below reviews from people who have dismissed this house CD as being too eclectic and not a consistent mix of grooves. This is really a CD you don't want to review until you've listened to it at least twice. Does Wyatt's "Sound Design" stray off course slightly with grooves that may be "out there?" Yes, but I'd rather have a DJ challenge me with something new than a DJ that remains in their comfort zone without breaking new ground. "Sound Design," despite this minor concern, is an overall seamless mix of standard soulful vocal house, Latin influences, jazz vibes, and a few instrumentals, and the whole thing works well. While the disc isn't flawless, it certainly doesn't deserve the cool reception some people give it. It's a well-above-average disc that's a welcome addition to my collection of dance music.

Started out good, sounded like it was going right, only to find out it makes a left, then veers slightly to either side, then... I don't know... I guess the "Does Your Mama Know" crowd knows better than I, oh well.

Classic hypnotic.......2006-05-21

One low base synth organ like chord held constant throughout the piece, with small variations in the background barely perceptible, almost subconscious. My non 'New Age Music' friends just stare at me blank and say "I could have done that with one finger!" It's the small variations in the background that hold it together. This is music that's always changing yet always the same. An interesting paradox that she has superbly mastered. If you just glance at it it's just a base chord, but if you listen closely, there's always things happening, so it never gets stale. Hypnotic music to meditate by. (Very hypnotic)

Starlite Sound Design.......2002-08-29

I can't help it--- I just am in love with Mark Grant. He makes the ultimate party cds! He alway throws in his little catch phrase "I'm Just Tryin To Get Paid!" and the way this man produces tracks---I believe it! He has done the deep house nation justice! He starts off with the happy "What I Say" and keeps the CD at a nice progressive pace-- til around track nine where Kerri Chandler's "Deconstructed House" comes in. The pace is fun and housy then at about track 13---the light shines. You know the light- when you're out on the dancefloor dancing to a pumpin house set for hours. That Light! And then a soulful voice--- What track am I listening to? Who is this? This voice..."Starlite!" Yes! Yes! Yes! This is it--- the Mark Grant CD has reached it's peak! Woah! Can this CD get any better? Mark Grant keeps this incredible vibe going with "Dia Mas" and "Tree of Life". MAWs "Round and Round" only signifies one thing --- Replay!

Impressive.......2002-07-15

Like most Chicago natives who are DJs, Mark Grant obviously knows how to keep things lively on a house mix CD. That shows on his album, "Sound Design." He doesn't seem to get much attention as Little Louie Vega, Roger Sanchez or Deep Dish, but this could be the very record to place him in the spotlight. This CD clocks in at over 70 minutes and offers the right balance of quality and quantity. Grant delivers smoothed-out house grooves that are lively yet soulful, often adding a dash of Latin influences for variety. In my school of dance music, "Sound Design" gets a grade of B+.

Mark Grant Keeps the Deep Vibe.......2002-06-18

This cd is reflective of his sets at Chicago's Red Dog club where he holds a residency. Totally smooth blends and nice selection. Favorite tracks: Track 1, Track 2, Track 3, Track 4, Track 11, Track 12, Track 14, and Track 15. I know that seems like nearly the entire album, but that's a credit to Mark Grant and his ability to keep things phat. This CD is a keeper!

Chi-Town Funk.......2002-05-03

This mix is interesting for the first 30 minutes, then it falls victim to the whole trend of live-sounding house, not saying that it's a bad thing, but it sounded too forced for Mr. Grant, it didn't really fit along with the rest, but all and all the mixing was good, the tracks were nice, worth the money!
