5 out of 5 stars Bally Sagoo.......2002-06-21

The CD is great. I am familiar with all the songs as I have watched all the videos before on the telly. Having your own CD is a different story altogether which I now have. Bally Sagoo is a great Music Composer and I am his fan!

5 out of 5 stars Bally at his best. . ........2000-11-05

I am a big fan of Bally Sagoo and the firt time i heard this collection of re-mixes i fell in love with his work all over again. As you can hear in the little tracks they offer on this site, the mixes havent been overdosed with cheap additions nor are they too much like their original version. Bally Sagoo is truley the father of all re-mixes and always shows his colors in his work.

5 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait.......2001-08-26

The second volume to Bollywood Flashback has been well worth the wait. A perfect marriage of A. Hindi film vocals and B. Blockrockin' dance beats. The downtempo tracks like Noorie and Yeh Resmi Zulfein are sooo beautiful and make you want to pack up for a trip beginning in Morocco and ending up in Jaipur! The uptempo Aja Aai Bahar starts with a New-Orderesque euro-beat before going into full throttle again with THAT gorgeous vocal. The ragga-inflected Sajna Kahe Bhool Gaye and rock n' roller Lal Lal Gal are gems too. The instrumentals make you want to sing along, altogether now: "Ajaa....

1 out of 5 stars This album needs major help!!!.......2000-09-29

Back in the day Bally was good but this a sad attempt at recapturing what he once was as a remixer...time to hang it up and hit the private party circuit chap.

5 out of 5 stars Just Fine... just fine..........2000-08-21

I guess sooner or later Bally Sagoo had to come up with a follow up to Bolly. Flashback. What I like about his remixes compared to the millions in the market is that he picks songs that are not obvious candidates. Who would have thought Haye Haye Yeh Majboori could have a techno beat to it! Although the thought of a lower middle class Indian housewife singing a discotheque-savvy song to her husband is kinda funny. And then he re-interprets the song completely with new vocalists and gives the song a whole new feel. Its NOT patchwork! If I'm not mistaken he has sort of distanced himself from the 'ragamuffin rap' thing which is just fine with me...

5 out of 5 stars Contagious fun.......2000-08-10

I stumbled upon this in a record shop in Toronto. I listened to about two tracks and bought it on the spot. The entire album is so much fun...In truth, I'd have to give Ballywood II 4 stars, but because the other reviewer was so extreme in his assessment, I'm awarding 5 stars. Bally Sagoo is much fun. For those who don't know, Bhangra is a hybrid of traditional Indian music and house music. Or something close to that. It's a smile.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible.......2000-07-05

Ok, this album is one of those one-song good, the rest bad. Nothing on this album is worth the cost. The only good song is Noorie, currently rocking the charts back home in India, the song is a great remix. The rest of the songs are just pure plain trash. Download the MP3 of Noorie, and save some hard-earned money! Long live Napster!

5 out of 5 stars It's Rivers Time.......2003-01-08

Yes, this is Steven Bernstein's gig. The inimitable downtown trumpter, cofounder of Sex Mob, Jewish bad boy, ostensibly the leader of this set, gives way by pride of place to his elder, the estimable Sam Rivers. After all, Rivers' band is who's providing the (quite remarkable) rhythmic underpinning. It's Rivers sheets-of-sound tenor sax approach that provides the defining moments of this stellar disc.

Indeed, one gets the distinct feeling that this project could've never been pulled off without the ultimate grounding of Sam Rivers' remarkable trio. It's rare these days to find a group with the instrumental diversity of the Rivers' trio. Doug Matthews plays both bass and bass clarinet. Anthony Cole plays both drums and tenor sax. And it's not as if these are just sort of exotic side-experiments: when they play their alter-instruments, they play them with the rigor and vigor one expects from players whose main gig is on these instruments.

Probably the most demonstrative of their multi-instrumental brilliance is the incomparable cut, "Alveenu Malkenu." Here the full alternate-instrumental approach reaches it glorious apex: especially striking in the bass clarinet work of Doug Matthews.

Timeless best decribes these deeply felt renderings of traditional Jewish music, the starkly beautiful tunes of Cantor Moshe Koussevitsky, and the mesmeric contemporary compositions of Steven Bernstein.

Something very special is going on here: Ecstacy meets jazz brilliance. At least that's how I see it.

5 out of 5 stars One of the most amazing jazz albums in years.......2002-10-03

This is a masterpiece, one of the greatest jazz albums in years. Bernstein's ideas combined with the performances of Sam Rivers and his group create magic. This is the way jazz used to be and should be. It's excellent and it takes you on a mental and emotional trip. This album is so powerful. All of the common 1980s and 1990s debates about jazz seem petty and insignificant when one considers the mighty achievements which occur constantly on this album.
