3 out of 5 stars Flamenco.......2005-01-13

Actually this cd does not help to showcase Ishtar's North African heritage as it does to showcase her Israeli culture as all but one or two of the songs are in Hebrew; with the exception of Allahalek Ya Sidi which is a classic Arabic pop song, and of course the songs that could be found on her other solo project La Voix d'Alabina. I thought the duet with Ofra Haza was a bit too staged, and I find that duets with dead pop singers (ala Natalie and Nat King) to be maccabre. I wish Ishtar came out with a cd that abandoned the pop-feel of her last two solo albums and went into the more traditional flamenco/Arabic style that may showcase her voice and be easier to dance to then the synthetic stuff. Ishtar still has a gorgeous voice though.

3 out of 5 stars ISHTAR evolves............................2004-11-03

As Ishtar becomes more popular, she is, alas, making the inevitable transition from worldbeat dance diva to pop star. This album reflects this evolution. While there are a couple of uptempo worldbeat songs similar to her earlier albums (both as solo artist and as part of the group Alabina), the exotic instrumentation and heavy percussion are muted here in favor of highlighting her voice in more midtempo (and blander) pop tunes and ballads--more than what I had hoped for. Her voice, nonetheless, is undeniably beautiful and moving---in whatever language! However, if you're looking for a more high-energy exotic dance experience, check out her other solo outing on *La Voix D'Alabina*. Or better yet, sample her singing when she was a member of the group ALABINA.

5 out of 5 stars ishtar beautiful.......2004-06-10

Beautiful, music, voice and body not to be left out of your music collection, even if you don't understand the lingo the music is universial.

5 out of 5 stars WoW.......2004-04-08

The music is almost as good as the cover of the cd.

5 out of 5 stars A more mature and more refined album!!!.......2003-09-16

Truly Emet showcases Ishtar's hauntingly beautiful and soulful voice. Unlike Ishtar's last solo album (which contained mostly tracks written and performed in French) this disk is much more North African in language, style, and rhythm. Tracks #11 and #12 can also be found on La Voix d'Alabina but are still beautiful and are very much appreciated in this album.

Highly recommended!

4 out of 5 stars Ishtar is the best from Europe.......2007-03-29

This album is one of the best by Ishtar. If you like a different kind of music from than a typical western or Eastern music, then this album is for you. Ishtar combines Middle Eastern and the Western music into a fasinating and beautiful sounds and lyrics which you can listen to over and over. She is the best singer to come around in a long time.

4 out of 5 stars Je Sais d'Ou Je Vien.......2006-05-20

Out of Ishtar's three solo albums this is my favorite, because she gets back to what she was known for, Arabic-Flamenco Fusion. She sings in Arabic and French on this album with remnants of her Alabina-Flamenco style swathing her voice, and of course the inevitable pop sounds of the synthesizers. Its strange how she sings in both French and Arabic on this cd, even her French songs have a significant amount of Arabic lyrics as stanzas and even choruses, and even the title ballad; "Je Sais d'Ou Je Vien," (which is quite pretty,) has one line in Arabic. I wonder if this was politically motivated at all, maybe concerning the riots of Paris, because we all know that Ishtar lives in Paris. (but not the slums, of course.) Because it seems that only a Frenchman of Arab descent who could also speak Spanish might understand the lyrics of the Album fully. I only gave it four stars because i didn't like the last two songs, one a remix of Alabina which hardly features Ishtar at all, and the other a cover of a patriotic Egyptian song sung in French made famous by Dalida, 'Helwa Ya Baladi.' But worth the buy for any Ishtar or Alabina fans.

5 out of 5 stars A BEAUTIFUL VOICE SINGING MAGNECTIC LYRICS.......2003-06-12

... I have always been a lover of so many different types of music, but the drums and beats of Caribbean Music and the guitar strummings of Flamenco have always brought me the most joy. Quite by accident, I came upon a duet between Alabina and the Gipsy Kings, a favorite of mine. I was hooked from that very moment on, and downloaded everything I could find having the slightest reference to Alabina. It wasn't until I made a friend in a fellow intern that had just returned from her study abroad in France (where they ruled the charts at the time) that I discovered Ishtar herself had a solo effort....and what an effort it turn out to be...
Every song moves you, whether in inspiration to weep or dance. The listener doesn't even have to be fluent in French or Arabic in order to be able to understand the beauty of her lyrics and the power of the voice singing them. She is not just a poster face for a band of greater talent. She is the real deal. You don't need to appreciate her face to know and feel her music. With just one listen, you will be hooked as well.

3 out of 5 stars Good but not great.......2003-02-16

A good cd, but not as great as her work with Alabina. Some lovely ballads though and a couple of good Middle Eastern-type songs.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful!!!.......2002-08-05

This CD is absolutely wonderful. It is full of ethnicity, passion and just plain good music. It is great for any belly dancer and anyone who loves to listen to multi-cultural music. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! :) :)

5 out of 5 stars WOW Ishtar, you're wonderful........2002-05-17

Ishtar is a great artist, she's able to sing in french, arabic, hebrew, spanish (not in this album) and english of unique way. Only with Ofra Haza I had seen something similar. Ishtar is also israeli. It's beautiful to verify that music is able to unite to different cultures, races and religions in a single language, the music. The Ishtar voice remembers to me the style of Ofra, Celine Dion and Shania Twain in several songs. My favorite are "Horshat Hai Caliptus", of the beautiful kibbutz folk in Israel, and "Lamouni", "Yalla Yalla" and "C'est La Vie" (in the France's distribution), with all the force of arab pop together with the french language.

Congratulations Ishtar, your music and talent are wonderful.

Hopefully that you visit Chile soon.

5 out of 5 stars To Alabina's goddess of love-Hail Ishtar!.......2002-03-26

Well, it's happened. Alabina's goddess has entered an orbit all her own. Those expecting a repeat of her time with the gypsy flamenco group are in for a surprise.

For one thing, all but two of the songs are in French, and have a more Europop flavour. That becomes apparent on the opener, "Corps Etranger," which is a great dance floor candidate. Her soaring vocals are in evidence here so don't worry--she hasn't changed in that aspect. Another such selection is "Et Qu'un Ange Passe" and the chorus and rhythm make the song worth it.

The resplendent ballad with its orchestral arrangement, "Horchat hai caliptus" shows the capability she demonstrated on the second Alabina album's "Rainbow Song." "Mille Et Une Nuits" is another great ballad with a power chorus, as is "Ou Tu T'Endors."

Ishtar enters familiar territory with "Lamouni", with its exotic Middle Eastern styling. Having been spoiled on Alabina, I must say it's my favourite song here. There's some of that in "Last Kiss," sung in English, and in the instrumentation of the closing ballad, "Je N'Oublie Rien."

The pace picks up in "Yalla," the most upbeat song here. Another upbeat number, "Approvoise-moi," could've made it on an Alabina album, but fortunately for us, she saved it here.

When it comes to French songs, I automatically think of Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, Brigitte Bardot, and Patricia Kaas. Let's add Ishtar to that hallowed list.

In all, Ishtar has made a successful transition with her first solo effort. It's her powerful voice that has made her a star and she utilizes it at its best.

    5 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended!.......2005-12-17

The sound and style of this album is a cross between Ishtar's solo offerings and her music with the group Alabina (her last name) with a funky reggae/hip hop and latin vibe. The singles Ragga Boom and Sawah are great. Sawah has a great rap from JMI Sissoko and is truly funky. There are a few songs in French, "Aime La Vie", "Dis Le Moi" and " Loin De Ce Monde Fou" that remind me of some of Ishtar's more dance-pop material from her first solo album La Voix D'Alabina, except these songs all still contain a little bit of a hip hop or reggae vibe. "Yalla" blends a rap with Ishtar singing pieces of the song "Alabina" and there is one really gorgeous ballad, the title track to the album, "Je Sais d'Ou Je Vien". If you are a fan of Alabina or Ishtar, you will love this CD. If you like world music (with an edge) then you'll like this CD as well. Ishtar blends many differnt types of music and languages, but she pulls it all off and the end result sort of a falls into a category all it's own. This CD definitely makes you want to get up and move!

    2 out of 5 stars What a disappointment!.......2006-09-02

This is NOT Alabina! Alabina is a complete band, with HOT Latin Gypsy guitarists and passion. There's passion in this CD alright, but it's strictly Ishtar's...reserved FOR Ishtar! A self-indulgence that is largely devoid of the energy and FUN which made Alabina such an addictive, happy sound. "The voice of Alabina" says it all...she definitely has a fantastic voice, but this music is dull, dull, dull. If you want a Mariah Carey or Cristina Aguillera re-hash, done up in "exotic" French, Arabic, etc...fine. But just be forewarned, that is what you're getting with this CD. Nothing original, and a pale, washed out comparison to TRUE Alabina!

    5 out of 5 stars BEST CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-09-03

IF you haven't heard of ALabina, boy are u at a loss!!. Not only is she beautiful, she is also talented. She is not like the pop singers out there. Her music clearly stands out and I will never get sick of listening to her. Most of her songs have a great beat to it (for to dance/exercise to) and the slow ballads are very sensual. Doesn't matter what language you speak, she sings in Spanish, French, English and also Arabic. She is like Shakira but ONLY BETTTER. PLEASE give this CD a try YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. (fyi, my fave is the first track and Kiss; also check out her other CD-IShtar) ENJOY!!!!

    5 out of 5 stars Mystically Sensual.......2005-08-19

La Voix D'alabina is an albun for the world. Alabina's vocal range combined with the beautiful instrumentalism of the band Ishtar is worth the purchase of this import. In this recording, there is a fine range between the up beat discoteque tracks and the sensual mystique of the ballads. The music goes from romantic to menacing.

Admittedly, I am not proficient in Spanish, nor do I yet speak Arabic. I have to agree with another reviewer, unquote, "that the music speaks for itself."

I wish more of this music could be played in the U.S. I only found out about this album while shopping at an International Bookstore in Manhattan.

    5 out of 5 stars SEDUCTIVE ARABIC-SPANISH MUSIC.......2003-04-28

This is my first Ishtar CD Album and I heard her voice from her Alabina group. I have been listening to the Alabina music and I really enjoyed the music, the difference in the compilation, the mix of Arabic and Spanish beats and rhythms. Makes for good dancing music. Even the slow ballad numbers are also very good - makes you sway and day-dream of romantic stroll on sunset beaches. Though I don't understand the meaning of the lyrics (I don't speak French, Spanish or Arabic) but I love the sound of the language.

    5 out of 5 stars Awesome CD!.......2002-12-19

I love the group Alabina (of which Ishtar is/was a member)and Ishtar's solo album is excellent. On her own, Ishtar's solo album has a much greater "pop music" feel vs. Alabina. If you like Alabina, this does NOT sound just like the Alabina music. However, if you own the Alabina Greatest Hits album, the song "C'est La Vie" on that album will give you a good idea what this CD is like. Ishtar's voice can be showcased here much better than on the Alabina CD's. She reminds me a little of Celine Dion because of her range and how powerfully she sings. This is a great collection of multicultural pop music flavored throughout with Spanish, Middle Eastern and French-Pop influences and sung in English, Hebrew, Spanish and French. The songs are excellent and so is Ishtar's beautiful delivery. So who cares if you don't understand what she's saying!!!!!

      Brilliant!
Fast, yet agressive death metal with awesome agressive, yet melodic guitars.
This is in vein of At The Gates and Dark Tranquility, however I found those guys a bit more agressive and brutal.
For death metal fans this is pleasurable listening experience. And good running music.
Also their debut Seasons of Frost is brutal too.

I listen to metal a lot and I must say that this album is one of the ones I listen to quite a bit. I love how melodic it is. It really makes me want to nod my head constantly. The guitars are full of speed and acuracy. It's one thing to just play fast, but it's another to play fast and execute. These guys do it quite well.

      5 out of 5 stars A hidden gem.......2007-04-22

I was at my local public library today when I came across Ishtar's "La Voix d'Alabina" in the world music section. The picture of an attractive blonde haired woman piqued my curiousity. On a whim I decided to check out the cd thinking that the music might be similiar to Kylie Minogue's. How wrong was I. "La Voix d'Alabina" turned out to be a seductive and diverse mix of modern pop, French, and Middle Eastern music. I even recognized one of the songs "Comme Toi" which can be heard on one of the Buddha Bar compilations. I was immediately hooked on this relatively obscure gem from six years ago. I like Ishtar's vocals. They are polished and with a hint of a French accent. One of my favorite songs is "Last Kiss" with its seductive Middle Eastern groove which makes me want to get up and dance. "Last Kiss" is a beautiful ballad. The song sounds like it belongs in a Hiyao Miyazaki animated film with its sweeping melodies and haunting lyrics. I am so glad I checked out this cd. I love all of the songs on the album.
