4 out of 5 stars Not so bad.............2007-07-26

I dunno...I feel this to be better than VIII, which is a good thing. While I could have done without the opening track on disc 1, the rest of this disc is easy enough to listen to. Disc 2 is the clincher, much more like the BB of old. Wonder what #10 will be like? And what's up with the packaging, just about everyone of these volumes has this problem with the disc trays coming unglued from the box, with Vol IX no different.

5 out of 5 stars Chill.......2007-07-24

Buddha Bar 9 is chilled out nicely, and does justice to the atmospheres of the actual restaurants. I rarely write reviews, but the others were too negative. I'm listening right now and I think the track selection and overall feel is amazing. I don't think the soundbites did it justice. A CD like this is a bridge to my other favorite genre: progressive trance. Several of the songs could practically be on Coldharbour.

Personally I think 6 was the 1st knockout, and 7 was an impressive evolution in sound that still kept the stereo full of rich HI-FI. 8 sucked and most of the earlier ones did too (IMO), but this CD makes me want to twist one up. Ravin is the Truth.

5 out of 5 stars Same quality as always.......2007-06-27

I always find it interesting when people pan these albums, I mean seriously even if it's not your favorite it should get a minimum of 3 stars just for the quality of the music and honestly how can you know in one day if you are going to like it over all. Good music takes time to settle in and establish itself, if you want disposable pop, you are in the wrong place. 1 star would mean a terrible album and this is not that from any angle, like it or not the musicians are all top notch. That being said, this is exactly like versions 1-8 before it, so chances are if you like them you will grow to like this. You may prefer others, but they are all very similar. This one has some hauntingly beautiful music and some thumping chill burners. It's a very good selection for the buddha bar family. Highly recommended although not at $64, you can download it for much less.

2 out of 5 stars Not any where near the 1st and 2nd.......2007-05-26

I get so excited when the new Buddha Bar CD's come out and rush to get them as fast as possible. This time and the last few hasn't been as deep and strong as the ones in the past. Still a nice collection of unique music but a bit of dissapointment for me.

1 out of 5 stars A weak link in a strong chain.......2007-05-08

The Buddha-bar series is some of the greatest music we enjoy.
I never write reviews, until now.
Sorry to say, buddha bar 9 is the most dissappointing in the series.
Go back to BB8,7,6,4,2,1. Buddha Bar Nature DVD is excellent.

Album Description

Ravin and David Visan have again served up a luscious, alchemical brew in which the purity of traditional sounds blends with pulsing electro in the holiest of unions. "Sarod", the first disc, serves up a harmonious yet assorted platter of Brazilian, Vietnamese, Hungarian, Indian, and Malian sounds. "Sarangi", the second disc, is a homage to Ustad Sultan Khan, elegantly riding a joyful electro-ethnic wave, alighting here and there to be serenaded by such artists as Mabagaya Project, Tito Rodriguez, or King Britt.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Buddha Bar Album.......2007-06-12

This is the best Buddha Bar album I own, the older they get, the slower the music seems to get. There is a great mix of nationalities represented and the songs don't get too monotonous with the electronic beats. Aja Maji, Aganju, Flute Fantasy, Perfume, Mama Guela, Uzomaka, and Drum'n Boogaloo are my favorites!

5 out of 5 stars Just as good as we hoped it would be!.......2007-05-15

This is a great CD. We heard it in a restaurant and were so impressed that we wrote down the name and recently bought it. One disc is more relaxing and the other is a little more on the "party" side-both are great fun.

5 out of 5 stars Not disappointed.......2007-03-19

I already had another set of 2 CDs that I love from Buddha Bar. I had a $25 gift certificate so I looked for the set that was on sale and ordered it without listening to it. It's more "smooth" and softly moody than the other one I have - more like listening music rather than dance.

5 out of 5 stars Buddha Bar.......2007-01-19

An incredible Fusion of music from India, Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe. Ranges from classical and jazz to disco and latin Rythms......I have Siddartha, Buddha Bar 5,6,7 and 8.....and not heard a track that I did not like......Great ! Great ! stuff.

4 out of 5 stars not the best buddha bar, but far from bad.......2007-01-04

i disagree with the reviewers who have branded this compilation as unoriginal and not memorable. they have perhaps not listened to the first five songs on CD1, which in my opinion make the purchase of this album well worth it on their own. and there are some other good tracks sprinkled here and there throughout both discs; in fact i would argue disc one is very strong throughout.

disc two is perhaps found wanting in comparison to buddha bar IV, but it's hard to blame David Visan for running out of some ideas after putting out 2 disc sets in successive years. but let me get back to the first five tracks on the first disc.

starting with David Visan's own Nie Kantshaietsa, the listener is transported into what i picture as a natural reserve, hearing a woman telling a story about.. something :) enter a flamenco guitar, a piano softly in the background, and the voice of the woman talking about something that i can only describe as fascinatingly unintelligeble :P
it is really all quite captivating, cheesy as it may sound. this really is one of the best opening tracks on any buddha bar in my opinion, and fans of the series will know there have been many many a great one.

the second track by Mikis Theodorakis is sort of grandiose, shorter track, that reminds me a bit of his fellow countryman, Vangelis. it too has oriental flavor however and makes a great lead in to the best song i have ever heard on any buddha bar cd (!!!!!) and that is no small honor..

entitled 'Road,' track 3 is a collaboration among a few different artists, and the result is just stunning. the singer's voice is quiet, enchanting, seductive, and the music is there to match it; deep, resonant bass, catchy beat, unobtrusive background synths and sitar, and occasional, well placed trumpet. she sings both in english and some foreign, presumably eastern tongue that sounds delicious to my ears. not since Oliver Shanti's 'sacral nirvana' has a buddha bar track gripped me as this one has.. it is magnificent.

track 4 by trumpet thing does not quite hold the same standard as 'road,' but it is a worthy follow up. slightly over-cheesy on the vocals, the production is nevertheless good, and the bassline is well appreciable on a good sound system.

this review is getting long so i will wrap it up with a few additional comments about the rest of the album. this does not live up to the overall high standards of volumes I and III, but considering how soon it followed the release of IV, much worse could have been expected. and in 'road' it contains on of the all time greats of buddha bar. CD2 is not all bad either. the emma shapplin track is quite nice, as well as the Despina Vandi track, and David's reconstruction of Liszt in 'Czardas' is quite pleasing.

4 stars for moments of brilliance and a job well enough done despite precious little time to do it.

3 out of 5 stars Good but..........2006-06-30

I enjoy this double disk set but few of the songs have any memorable beats or melodies. Try "Little Buddha Bar" for higher quality music.

3 out of 5 stars There are better options..........2006-06-05

The Buddha Bar sound can be defined as the sound of Asia, put through a Chill Filter, and tuned for Zen relaxation. And if you like that sound, then you'll love the albums from Hong Kong's Celestial. Check them out, they are titled:

Hong Kong Dub Station
Happy Valley
Spirit House

And these album probably take a deeper step into Asia, possibly because they originate from there.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2006-03-22

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A new musical genre...Buddha-Bar.......2006-08-22

Buddha-Bar music has become a genre, not just a restaurant-bar. DJ Popat took this genre to its next level; a total chill-out experience. It goes well with dinner, wine, good company, the loving, or just when you want to be alone with yourself enjoying life for what it is, an experience. I thought the Little Buddha Cafe CD was at the top, but this Volume VIII raised the bar for all those chill seekers outhere. Lets see what V IX brings. Can't wait...

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2006-08-09

I love this volume VIII. The mix and music choices are just perfect for my taste. I have alle the other Buddha Bar CD's but this is one of the best.

5 out of 5 stars A return to fine form.......2006-07-09

I have been a long time admirer of the Buddha Bar series for the last few years. Unfortunately I was mildly disappointed in the last two volumes. The last two volumes had taken a more Indian influence courtesy of DJ Ravin. I had preferred the work of Dave Visan (the son of Raymond Visan, founder of the club/bar Buddha Bar) and Claude Challe who mixed the first three Buddha Bar cds. I was a bit hesitant to buy volume eight because of my mild disappointment but when I found a used but in excellent condition copy, I decided to give the series another shot. I'm glad I did. Sam Popat, the dj at NYC's Buddha Bar, did not fail me. The music re-captures the magic that made me fall in love with the series. Sam Popat breathes in new life into the series with his mix of Asian and modern dance music. I absolutely loved both discs and usually I prefer the more laid back disc over the more dance orientated disc.

4 out of 5 stars awesome!!.......2006-07-01

This actually came as a surprise to me regarding how good this is. I was enjoying a 3 and 1/2 hour layover at IAH (GB Intercontinental Airport, Houston) and perused through a music store. I came across Buddha Bar 8 at a listening station, put on the headphones and before I knew it I was swaying to the music. I think I was putting on quite a show bobbing my head and tapping my fingers and foot. The music will put you in a good mood. My favorite is probably the first track, which begins gently but crescendos into a soaring and upbeat melody. The vocalist is also very expressive, although no distinct words are sung, almost like a vocalise.

I advise you to try this, your heart will soar and your feet will dance!

5 out of 5 stars Superb!.......2006-05-21

This is just what I expected to be the next volume of this series, excelent, dont miss it!

Just got an ipod nano for Christmas and with the addition of this CD it made life a whole lot sweeter. This Cd is amazing!! The best thing about these compilations is you can really float away in your own universe to really feel true bliss. Never have I experienced music like this before. Got into the Buddha Bar Cd's with Vol. 1-7 and found Siddharta as the icing on the cake. It's great to hear diverse sounds from all over the world. Spirit of Buddha brings this to you and it doesn't all sound the same like most CD's. If you enjoy trance, dance, and relaxation with some really hot sounding grooves, get this CD you wont be disappointed. The music covers all spectrums of the world, many of which I have only envisioned with this music...but oh what beautiful visions they are.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars EXPECTING MORE FROM DJ RAVIN.......2007-06-11

This CD is good dont get me wrong, but compared to the first 2 it lacks intensity and flow. It is still nice to hear and has some exotic and sensual songs. But I highly recommend the first 2. DJ Ravin is a mixing magician he creates awesome awesome transcendental music. Im sure we will be on the look out for the next amazing CD.

4 out of 5 stars Siddharta Volume III.......2006-04-14

I have the other 2 Siddharta volumes, all Buddha Bar's, (including 8...don't buy 8...it's really a tragedy!) and two Chill Out in Paris CD's. Volume III, while different than the previous volumes, is quite good. It's an additional flavor & compliment to the other volumes. Ravin has a great ear for music and blending tracks. On the first disc, cut 7, he found an unbelievable hip, up to date rendition of "Chain of Fools". This volume is not as ethnic as the others but Ravin shows nice range in mixing volume III. And not to worry, it's not without its ethnicity. The first disc starts very smooth & hip building tempo in the end tracks. In disc two, he takes it up a notch with some nice electronic with culture & class...not the hard repetitive thump with no soul or lyrics. If you like the Buddha Bar and the previous two Siddharta's, it's likely Siddharta III will not disappoint.

4 out of 5 stars Very nice...but Siddharta I and II are better........2006-03-24

Ok people, let me tell you that I pre-ordered this CD almost 3 months ago and I finally recieved it today. I have the other 2 Siddhartas, I and II and let me tell you that I had huge optimism that this 3rd compilation was going to be as good...not so. If you liked the previous Siddhartas that by the way I will rate them as a solid 5 stars ( a must have!) this new compilation is short to be there with them. It has exquisite tracks, specially the first 2 songs witch I thought are amazing. But then the CD shows its shortcomings. I would have liked much more "ethnic" music mixed with synth, electronics, etc. The CD has some music with songs in English, I would have like to hear more aboriginal dialects than anything else. Yes, if you are looking weather you should or shouldn't buy the CD I will say to you to go ahead and buy it. Siddharta III has 2 CD's inside as the other Sidds do, but as far as I am concerned the 2nd CD is not of my taste. I do enjoy very much the 1st CD of all Buddha bars and Nirvanas, but the 2nd CD, the one that is more upbeat, I simply cant hear them. Buy the CD and enjoy very good music, just dont expect to be as flawless and beautiful as the first 2 compilations. Peace!

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars While It's Not Horrible, It's a Weak Buddha Bar Entry.......2007-04-10

First, it is disappointing as I flat out think Claude Challe is brilliant and before this CD - thought he was infallible. He has put together some not just great CD's but CD's that forever haunt you - they are that brilliant! With that bar set, it's hard when he delivers anything less than a revelation but sadly, this CD is such a case. It's mostly pleasant and interesting but just doesn't haunt you like most Claude's mixes that seem to weave in and out of your subconscious and brain - this one is just "okay," for a lot of other mixers, that would be fine but for Claude - this seems far below him ... what also hurts are two flat out spoken word tracks that are so treacly - you actually shudder and feel a little queasy - they are just wretched. As someone who owns thousands of Cd's, it's rare I want to immediately hit stop or want to figure a way to tape up the Cd so those tracks NEVER play again. So, I can see why newcomers might be so turned off by those tracks ... while Buddha Bar is usually not just reliable but excellent - this is definitely the last one to pick up in the series or avoid entirely as the best tracks can be found elsewhere.

5 out of 5 stars Great Music I won't stop listening........2007-03-09

Great Music I won't stop listening. Very enlightening and soothing.

5 out of 5 stars The Buddha Bar.......2007-02-08

Buddha Bar is a very trendy bar in Paris. It is from there that this and other Buddha bar CDs come from. DJ Challe put together the first and second one. There are a bunch of them now. This one, Buddha bar II is interesting because one can hear Demi Moore singing next to Deepak. There are great African and Latin beats too.
delivery was super fast and got it in great conditions, the company goes to great lengths when it comes to packaging. many thanks!

3 out of 5 stars Good music for tuning out .. . with some suggestions .. .......2006-06-25

Big fan of the Buddha Bar series .. always the best music for all kinds of late night chillout sessions. Love the asian vibe to them .. And if you like that sound, I've recently discovered some more authentic tunes you'll love: Hong Kong's "Celestial". Check them out, they are titled:

Hong Kong Dub Station
Happy Valley
Spirit House

And these album probably take a deeper step into Asia, possibly because they originate from there.

1 out of 5 stars I had to say something...........2006-01-22

I have read many, but never written a review before. I felt compelled this time. I recently purchased this CD and thought it a collection of the most ridiculous music ever. There are a couple of nice tunes but what seems like it may have potential, is abruptly destroyed by some incongruent whim.
Thinking perhaps that I was being a musical snob, I asked the opinion of a friend. She and I laughed so hard at how awful it was, so, I went for a third opinion. The result was the same. In fact it got worse with each listening. We've decided that it will make a nice "booby prize" for my next party. Avoid this like the plague. It is musically inconsistent, non-relaxing and a complete source of irritation. If you want your dinner guests to leave early by all means play this.

5 out of 5 stars amazed by the mixed reviews.......2006-05-22

I am totally blown away by the fact that this album only gets 3.5 stars. I own all the Buddha Bar CD's up to 6 and love them all, but this one is by far my favorite. I play this whenever we have a party or a few dinner guests, and without fail, people ask me for the name of this CD. It's not as middle eastern sounding as some of the others. It's more of a European groove, but the tracks are very sensual and draw you into almost a chill out state of mind. Out of all the Buddha Bar CD"s this is the set I play the most. After this, Buddha Bar II is my next favorite.
