French reality-TV star crafts slick pop album.......2007-03-03

Nolwenn is one of the bigger stars on the French pop scene right now. She's sold a ton of albums over there-- but you might take that with a grain of salt...after all, we're talking about the nation that idolizes Johnny Halliday. Here, she tries to cultivate a Kate Bush sound. The single from this album, NOLWENN OHWO, is certainly beguiling. But it won't hold up under repeated listenings. She's sort of the Kelly Clarkson of France-- good production, mediocre songs, short shelf-life. Actually, her songs are much better than Kelly Clarkson's pablum. But it's still commercial pop product. With a French accent. You make the call.

I'm belgian and I must say that I adore Nolwenn, I followed heriin Star Academy season and she songs so well. This album is the her best : Nolwenn Oho, L'enfant cerf-volant, j'aimais tant l'aimer, le reve des filles are the best ones. You must listen this album, he is so fine and magnificient.

Valió la pena la larga espera, no veía la hora ni el día en que por fin estuviese a la venta su segundo disco. Al principio no me gustó mucho que digamos, ya que a diferencia de mucha gente a mí si me gustó mucho su primer album y al escuchar este las primeras veces extrañé mucho escuchar esa potente voz de "Cassée" "Rayer l'émotion inutile" "Qui mieux que moi" entre otras.

Después de escuchar unas cuantas veces este nuevo disco pude descubrir el encanto del mismo con canciones como "Rien de mieux au monde" mi favorita, "Histoire Naturelle" "Mélusine" entre otras. No veo la hora en que la pueda ver en vivo cantando estos y otros temas que tanto adoro de ella.

If you make some researchs about this young singer, you will learn that she comes from a french real TV Show, called "star academy 2", that why her fan club is very active and do propaganda on every websites ,they can find. The funniest thing, it's when they try to make you believe that they are not from her fan club and then send a review to promote the album...so pathetic.

Whatever,This is her second album, some songs are good musically but nothing extraordinary. Not the album of the century, but not even the worst.Her voice is faint and insipid, what a pity when you have heard her voice on her debut album.

This album truly reveals the beautiful artistic evolution of a young lady with undeniable talent! Certainly one of the best composed, orchestrated and original pop albums created of late. A fusion of classic, celtic and modern melody & instrumentation, creatively balanced with a voice that evokes emotion, imagination and wonder. Nolwenn doesn't "impose" her voice here (god knows, she's got the pipes to do so), but rather subtly creates a real harmony with the music. Just another instrument in perfect nuance with each piece. Yet, you still feel those extraordinarily warm, magic tones that makes her unique. Certainly, listening to it transports you. It's one of those albums that you want to hear from beginning to end. One doesn't need to scream at the top of their lungs, or go overboard with distracting vocal acrobatics to demonstrate talent. Pleased to hear somebody who doesn't need to feed their ego, but is intent upon using her voice and interpretive skills to arrive at something lasting and meaningful. Applying her own lyrics to half the songs, she's created a very personal & moving piece of work. With this progress, her future happily looks very bright! Probably the best kept secret in the business today, at least in the States! "Melusine" & "J'aimais tant l'aimer" offer an incredible listening experience and finish to this opus.

The negative reviews from French buyers are right on the mark. I'm a big fan of Pascal Obispo (who produced the album), and I was frankly disappointed. The music is well-produced but insipid and uninspired -- and the singing? Bof!

"Hein?" you may say -- "but she won that contest", etc. Well, her singing style is similar to Céline Dion, but without the power or the phrasing and timing that Céline has. And while there's nothing in particular that is terrible about this album, it is surprising how the lack of anything very good can make something so bad.

So if you're looking for good French pop, try Keren Ann or Autour de Lucie for a more etherial sound, Lise Boyer (from Québec) for a more pop sound, or Jeanne Cherhal for a singer/songwriter sound.

She bewitches us with her voice (powerful and posed at the same time) which separates her from the common run, but also with her charisma personality !

Surrounded by a fantastic team of very well known composer-songwriters in France (Pascal Obispo, Laurent Voulsy, Alain Souchon, Lara Fabian and Lionel Florence), Nolwenn shows in this first album all the extent of her extraordinary vocal capacities and wonderful capacities of interpretations. More than one voice, she is a large artist who appeared. Mast, sincere, moving and adventurous, the Nolwenn Leroy's album has been on sale since March 4, 2003. First of the sales since its release in France, but also in Belgium and Switzerland, it carries out the exploit to remain placed among the best sales several months after its release. An album already worshipped, to buy absolutely !

To finish, my prefered song? ... "Cassé" (broken's French translate) of course ! Her 1st single, wich managed to be FIRST OF ALL EUROPEAN CHARTS DURING SEVERAL WEEKS!

I don't belong to her fans............2005-04-29

I live in Miami,in Florida,and i've discovered Nolwenn thanks to a Catholic tv show.I've bought her CD,but i can't find words to express how i'm disappointed in this purchase.My son have some troubles of anxiety,i was hoping this could help him to feel better,but nothing happened...I can notice that the music sounds good for me,but i don't really like her voice...I don't care if she is a good girl or a bad one,and i think the quarrel between french fans is kinda ridiculous.We are here to comment on the product,but i also think that this is typically french to blame on everyone all the time.But let us return to our business,i don't appreciate the CD all in,but i want to say that i'm grateful to the others commantaries which have made me discover others names of the french music.

A magnificent voice!.......2005-04-28

Nolwenn has a great voice! Her album is really pleasant to listen!!! She's simple, natural, beautiful and she has a magnificent voice! She's also very kind-hearted! Her 2nd album is very promising as it's the french singer "Laurent Voulzy" who's actually helping her... Nolwenn is not really appreciated by some persons in France since they don't appreciate her music style but those persons don't know her really! She's the only singer who's so close to her fans! I hope that she'll have a fabulous career!
I highly recommend u this album! ;-))

A beautiful voice, a good CD.......2005-04-22

I don't write a very good english language, but this young artist has a marvellous voice and her CD is good. I like 11 of the 12 songs.

She won the second season of Staracademy TV-show in France. There is a lot of jealousy between certain (young) fans of the competitors of this TV-show and between certain (young) fans of the four winners... This appaers on the web and here too...

Listen this CD and it's up to you to draw your own conclusions.

La voix de Nolwenn va droit au coeur et procure une merveilleuse émotion. Son album est très beau et témoigne de son immense talent. Sur scène, en concert, sa voix splendide et sa communion avec le public sont telles que l'on en ressort abasourdi et que l'on ne souhaite qu'une chose, la revoir, l'entendre à nouveau. Touchante, émouvante, belle et généreuse, c'est à mon avis l'une des futures plus grandes chanteuses de tous les temps. Elle l'est déjà pour moi.
