These Old Blind Dogs have had to learn some new tricks. With the departure of longtime vocalist and venerable folkie Ian Benzie, in addition to other lineup renegotiations, Dog veterans Jonny Hardie and Buzzby McMillan are all that remain of the old order. In spite of the inherent need to shed the doubts and quibbles of long-time listeners, The World's Room takes these Scottish neotraditionalists in an exciting new direction while retaining the strengths of the band in its former incarnation. Jim Malcom, a fine melodious singer, admirably fills the shoes vacated by Benzie, while Rory Campbell's pipes and whistles flit and float and teen sensation Paul Jennings' percussion keeps the group within a tightly wrought framework. As ever, multi-instrumentalist Hardie's fiddle sings out sweet and McMillan's bass and cittern lend symmetry to the set's marriage of traditionals and originals, notably Campbell's "The Ritual" and "Soup of the Day," the latter a willy-nilly band jam to a funky pipe tune. --Paige La Grone

Cynical types will accuse Disney of milking the "greatest" concept until it's drier than Tinkerbell's fairy dust ("Supercalafragilisticexpealidocious," "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da," and "Heigh Ho" were hits off of Vol. 1; "Bare Necessities," "It's a Small World," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come" stole the show on Vol. 2), but a glimpse of this installment's track listing is all it'll take to squash their suspicions. Once again running reverse-chronologically, Vol. 3 opens with Jonatha Brooke's gorgeously achy ballad "I'll Try," from 2002's arguably not-so-great Return to Neverland, and gradually reaches back through the years to re-raise the curtain on Toy Story 2 ("When She Loved Me," performed by Sarah McLachlan), The Lion King ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews's classic "A Spoonful of Sugar"), Pinocchio ("Give a Little Whistle"), and a bundle of treasured others, bottoming out at 1933's "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" from The Three Little Pigs. Vol. 3 is not without its weak moments--would a G-rated movie-goers' poll produce Beauty and the Beast's "Gaston" or The Hunchback of Notre Dame's "Topsy Turvy" on a hits list? Seems unlikely. Still, the bulk of these tracks are, as the included Little Mermaid song goes, "Part of Your World," and the spread of decades they represent proves their staying power. Don't expect Disney to latch the lid on its inexhaustible archives until a dozen or so of these records, each as strong as the next, beckon you back for more. --Tammy La GorceCustomer Reviews:

Album Description
Want My Mommy (Time for Bed)" is the No.1 song XM Kids national satellite radio! In addition, The Movers' debut disc, "Good Ideas," has been named a 2003 Parents' Choice Recommended CD and was named Best Recording for Younger Children by Children's Music Web. Also, "Toothache," a tune about dental hygiene set to an old-school rap beat, garnered a 2003 Great American Song Honor Award and the Caribbean inspired "The Medicine Song" was recently named a finalist in the USA Songwriting Contest. Imagination Movers combine pop, hip-hop, rock and world music with educational themes for kids and their parents. The Movers sing about healthy eating, separation anxiety, sibling rivalry and other topics that relate to being a little kid, but the group's musical style has a decidedly grownup groove. Think Mr.. Rogers meets the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Regardless of how you describe it, Movers music is catchy stuff that parents and children will want to listen to over and over again!Customer Reviews:

"Please and Thank You" is a Caribbean-touched homage to every parent's three favorite words. The call-and-response jam "What's in the Fridge" is evidence of the Movers' continued obsession with snack food. And "First Day of School" is a sentimental look at a milestone from a child's point of view. These and 12 other new Movers tunes will be favorites in family CD players for years to come.

Novelist Cormac McCarthy's literary vision of the wild west is given wide-screen treatment by maverick director Billy Bob Thornton and a cast that includes Matt Damon, Penelope Cruz, and Bruce Dern. Professional country music journeyman Marty Stuart has performed with father-in-law Johnny Cash, Earl Scruggs, and Doc Watson, in addition to a successful solo career. In his soundtrack scoring debut, he provides short, meditative instrumental pieces that are subtly explosive--rife as they are with strains of old-school country and bluegrass. Cinematic strings and orchestral percussion add a welcome menacing edge, augmenting the rustic approach without crossing over into a compromised "countrypolitan" sound. If anything, it might be nice to hear these themes extended. As it stands, the 23 listed tracks are covered in a little under 50 minutes, with many of the cuts barely lasting more than a minute or two. They stand as a new genre of cinematic country minimalism. --Rob O'ConnorCustomer Reviews:

Features two vocal pieces, the first a spanish song sung by the very talented Raul Malo of the country group the mavericks, the second song is a beautiful ballad sung by Marty Stuart. Though I never owned any cd's of Marty Stuart he earns my respect with composing this film score.(cowboy hats off to you Mr.Stuart)

A delightfully buoyant, mock-creepy collection of film scores from Hollywood's first and best call for quirk, strangeness, and charm. Focusing on Elfman's post-1992 work (much of it for director Tim Burton), this 2 CD set features excerpts from Edward Scissorhands, To Die For, and Batman Returns, among other lesser items. -- Jeff BatemanCustomer Reviews:
Priceless, at any price.......2007-07-06
There are no words to describe what this music does to me. I did try listening to some of the other tracks, but they didn't even come close. I rate this music right up there with the 1971 score for "Jane Eyre" by John Willams... and that's pretty high :D
Good overview.......2007-04-18
Great Music!!!!!!!!!.......2005-09-08
Very nice for a Danny Elfman collection.......2005-08-02
Bring on Volume 3.......2005-05-04
Edward Scissorhands is magical, Black Beauty is a rollercoaster of emotion, and Dolores Claiborne makes me want to find the nearest piano. This is not a "Most Popular" compilation, rather it aptly showcases Danny Elfman's (and Orchestrator, Steve Bartek's) brilliance and wide range of style.
Every suite has an Elfman signature, such as the layered complexity which never sounds overdone, or the use of a choir as an instrument.
This (and Volume 1) are examples of the work of a modern day composer who consistently stands out as one of the best.
If you like this and have the spare cash, grab the individual scores from some of the movies he has worked on, including "Men In Black", "Spiderman", "Batman", "Batman Returns", "Nightmare Before Christmas", "Edward Scissorhands", "Mars Attacks" and so many more.

There are some folks down in Athens, Georgia, who think their Star Room Boys are a kind of cure-all for slapdash Americana, an honest, hard-country substitute for the irony-riddled music of other fringe alt-country bands who advertise their sources like steamer trunks covered with travel stickers. The Star Room Boys have two of the finest instrumentalists on the scene in pedal-steel man Johnny Neff and guitarist Philip McArdle, while lead vocalist Dave Marr, who founded the group in 1995 and who writes most of the material, knows how to deliver unpretentious country novellas. Still, on this sophomore disc they do not avoid all of the pitfalls of the aforementioned alt crowd: every now and then they stick their chins way out with a lyrical bent that is painfully overwrought and overwritten, and Marr's voice can devolve into an irksome sameness. Yet when it comes to music that makes you at home at the end of the bar at the end of the night, you could do far worse than the Star Room Boys. --Henry Cabot BeckCustomer Reviews:

Good, but not their best.......2003-06-15
This isn't as great as their debut, though. While "Cocaine Parties" and a few other tracks are as heart-breaking as country can get, it doesn't have the relentless excellence as "Lonely Men and Women."
I remember attending the release show for this ... what a great live act the SRBs were. If you like good, old-timey, heartfelt country, get this ... but not before you own their brilliant debut.

Another great trip down the MFU memory lane.......2005-10-19
My only problem is that THE CDs ARE COPY PROTECTED! Considerable work is needed to get the music onto your iPod, if you really want the music in your mp3 collection. This is a major hassle and a surprise, since the first set in the series was not copy protected.
The best of the three Double CDs ORIGINAL soundtrack release.......2005-07-12
Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.
And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.
Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.
This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.
Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.
So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

The Entire Combustible Dixon.......2006-07-09
From the first track `In Darkness Found' there is a tone of cool, wit, and style that is uniquely Don Dixon. He has the ability to line up the moon and stars in a way that makes you want to put on the headphones and just drink it all in.
The fact of the matter is that Don Dixon knows how to make cool records. Cool in the sense that if you take the 43 minutes and 20 seconds to listen to the whole record you feel like you taken an interesting little trip or spent some time with an old friend.
There's no stinkers and on the 2nd listen, standouts are In Darkness Found, Secret Room, In A Politician's Bed and Ten Part Peal.
If you are someone who is persuaded by reviews, pull the trigger on this one.

Welcome back Don Dixon.......2006-06-20
I had the pleasure of seeing Don and Marti at the old 9:30 club in downtown DC in the summer of 1986. What a show! Don and Marti played all their great songs from the aforementioned LPs. Quite a show and I believe either the WHFS DJ Weasel or DJ Damien did the introductions to the show....can't remember which one...oh well, had a great time at the show.
So, enough of the history of Marti and Don's airplay and concerts in the Washington DC area...what about this new CD? I like it very much. The CD has a theme all about various rooms (a church, a dorm, an ICU, etc.) and works very well from a conceptual standpoint. Don's lyrics/singing and the arrangements/production conjure up a different feeling for each song (room).
Don's soulful singing voice has aged well and he appears to enjoy singing these songs! Marti Jones also sounds great on the final cut (a cover) singing Let's Active's "Room With a View."
Welcome back Don Dixon! Hope to see Don in the Washington DC area if he tours to support the new CD.
I highly recommend this CD
