Kohala was formed in 1998 and it's 3 guitarists are from the Big Island of Hawaii. The 3 guitarists are: Charles Michael Brotman on lead guitar. Brotman's other recordings include "Mango Cooler" (Global Pacific) and "Pacific Rendezvous" Both have charted in the top 10 on NAC radio. This album was supplied in the room of my hotel, and was playing when my wife and I would return from a day of fun in Hawaii. It was such a good album that I bought it before I came home. Now if I want to enjoy my memories of Hawaii, I just turn this album on and close my eyes. Great guitar!

Wanted to have some Hawaiian music when we returned from our visit, and this sounded like what I wanted. It is, indeed, beautiful music, just not the "island sound" I was looking for. Still provides a soothing, laid back ambiance.

One of my very favorite memories is a trip I took to Hawaii several years ago. With the very first note of DEEPER BLUE I was instantly transported back to the white sands and gently breaking waves, sipping fresh pineapple juice; without a care in the world. With this exquisite CD, Kohala (pronounced Ko-hall-ah) is able to transport listeners to an auditory world that is pure and natural in its beauty. Influences of folk, jazz and life in Hawaii continue to serve as the foundation and musical inspiration on this seventh release by the guitar trio whose members include Charles Michael Brotman, (who, in 2005, won the first Grammy Award given for Hawaiian music - Best Hawaiian Music Album) handling the melody on nylon string classical guitar; Charlie Recaido; and newest addition, Rupert Tripp, on steel strings. The title track is sublime - a gorgeous melody and dazzling guitar work make this one of the album's standout cuts. "Samba del Sol" follows and once again we are treated to impressive finger work in a delightful piece of music. With some lively percussion added to the mix, "Lime Twist" is another favorite. Gentle jazz from the acoustic guitar trio KOHALA. Eight of the eleven tracks on "BACK TO KOHALA" are original and were composed by the three members of this acoustic guitar trio, but they have also included a couple of gems like Brian Wilson's "Warmth of the Sun", Randy Lorenzo's " Forever Mine", and Cecilio Rodriguez' "You". My family has been a big fan of Kohala, the first CD in the series, and recently decided to buy this second CD. I can honestly say its gentle, relaxing, and beautiful guitar songs are just as good as Kohala. This CD has not come out of our CD player since we bought it!

Island Treasures and Kohala by Kohala are both excellent listening music. No vocals. Great background music with a hint of jazz while communicating the pleasant sounds of Hawaii.

in three words: mellow, soothing, relaxing. the artists are from hawaii, and some numbers on this CD are sung in Hawaiian, but i wouldn't necessarily label this music "Hawaiian music." anyone looking for good music to fall asleep to will find it a good choice. if you ARE a hawaiian music fan, you're in for a real treat. you'll see some great musicians contributing...sista robi, jake shimabukuro....

i play this CD when i put my two year old to bed. i have several other lullaby CDs, but for the past two months, this has been the only one i've been playing.
