Bossacucanova's debut, Revisited Classics, was proof that samba and bossa nova are timeless music. There's more of the same on their sophomore release, but the addition of bossa original Roberto Menescal brings added authority to a sound that can add subtle dance-floor beats and textures to the work of Jobim (including a very soulful take on "The Girl from Ipanema," or "Garota de Ipanema," as it's called here) and the Tamba Trio. It's all done so well that telling the difference between the vintage tunes and modern originals is impossible, while the programming seamlessly gives some gentle, funky oomph to the innately irresistible rhythms. Singer Cris Delano offers some sensual vocals to make the hips glide, sailing over languorous melodies. It's all as relaxing and warm as a day on the Rio beach. Good but not great.......2002-02-19

I bought this album at the same time as Bebel Gilberto's "Tanto Tempo", and i have to say i like Bebel's CD a lot better. This one is good, dont get me wrong, but it just doesnt grab me the way "Tanto Tempo" does. This album has more acoustic instruments and live playing, while the Bebel album is more sampled and electronic/minimal. "Brasilidade" to me sounds more traditional and more like a live band, while it has less of the loungey atmospheric electronics i liked in "Tanto Tempo". A good album, but one i play about half as much as Bebel's.

We as a whole...as a society, are class warriors. Exteneding out even to music. We don't things a chance because of pressure from others. Then one day, we get a peek behind the curtain and see what we are made to miss. We must let things in. Or stay stagnant. This album is one that should be let in and kept in constant rotation in your stereo.

Bossacucanova puts on modern day arrangements to classic bossa nova tunes. Great addition to anyone's bossa nova collection.

Bossa with a twist.......2001-08-08

Although I like "Revisited", this is the better of the two albums. "Brasilidade" has taken Getz, Gilberto, Jobim and others and mixed them in a catchy way to bring Bossa Nova of the 60's right into the new century. The songs are alive, fresh and full or energy.

what a great pick-me-up.......2001-05-18

This cd is the upest-sounding, groovinest thing I've heard since... well, maybe ever. I have difficulty getting past the first 4 tracks only because they are so good: I keep replaying them, as if they were a bossa suite. These may be old songs, but they sound anything but old. I have to agree with the other reviewer: this 2nd offering from Bossacucanova far surpasses their 1st.
