My step-daughter laughed when she found out I was listening to this music. I'm a metal head from WAY back, and only discovered Alizee' because one of my friends daughters was playing it. I enjoy the melodies and arrangements, and am looking forward to the 3rd album, coming out sometime this year.

This music is "pop" music in French - however, it is infectious and satisfying in a manner that Christina, Britney and most other American "pop" stars arent. Maybe thats just because its in French, but that does NOT detract from the tight production and just dam good singing.

I'm not sure...I still don't care for her ballads. And some of her stuff is still kind of silly. But (again), what I like I *really* like. I'm torn to decide which album is best. That's because I'm torn over whether I like "Veni Vedi Vici" or "J'Ai Pas Vingt Ans" more. Not sure. I recommend both albums as well as her live DVD. Her music is (overall) very upbeat, catchy and melodic. I don't speak a lick of French but it doesn't take anything away from the music (for me) at all. I could care less about her 'image' or her 'packaging'. Being in America I am pretty much immune to that stuff. As far as lip-synching live, it doesn't matter. She's *very* easy on the eyes and very charismatic whether she's really singing or not.

All I have to say is, I hope that more female French speaking/singing artists come out as beautiful and talented as Alizée. I just found a video from a live performance of hers, and I was literally blown away. Although I have no clue what she's singing about, the song was "J'En Ai Marre!" and it was catchy enough to get hooked on.

I first stumbled upon a video performance of "J'en Ai Marre!" and later "Moi Lolita" and was instantly taken in by their catchy tunes and lyrics. I don't speak a lick of French but I was hooked none-the-less. I took a chance and ordered the import version with the vcd and love every song on the album, especially the enchanting "Tempete" and "Coeur Deja Pris." This album has a nice mix of up tempo and slower tempo music. Give the samples a listen, if you have an affinity for "world" music, you may be pleasently surprised.

Awesome! I learned about this artist by stumbling on her American fan site: Alizee America. I don't understand French but after hearing a couple of her songs there I was immediately hooked and had to get the CD. This specific CD contains 4 bonus tracks (3 English remix and 1 of her hit single from her first CD: Gourmandises) and 1 VCD containing 2 music videos (the quality is okay, but you can find higher quality videos to view at one of her fan sites). Note: The VCD can only be viewed on your PC, at least it was for me. Thanks!
PS: It didn't ship with "a 5 inch mousepad with Alizee's photo plus 5 postcard size picture cards".

Excellent. However, don't expect the bonus VCD to play on your DVD player--even those that handle most VCDs and MPEGs--you will probably just get audio. The video does play on a computer with Windows Media Player.

Mes Courants Electriques.......2004-02-17

It's certainly not another Gourmandises (because who really needs two CDs that basically copy each other?), but Mes Courants Electriques follows a natural artistic progression. There is more of Alizee's personality in the music on this latest CD, including more guitar. She's taken a step forward from Gourmandises, still appealing to the masses but distinguishing herself from her counterparts like Lorie. She was a standout in the pop scene with Gourmandises, and with Mes Courants Electriques, Alizee has proven her durability and flexibility.

She pours emotion into every song, just like on Gourmandises, which continues to allow the non-French speaking fans such as myself to get involved in the music and really understand it without even knowing what she's saying. Her voice is still as pure as when she was first released 4 years ago, and her voice still has the ability to enthrall and sooth you, as well as making you want to get up and dance.

The four English translations (I'm Fed Up, Amelie, I'm Not Twenty, and Youpidoo) on this version of Mes Courants Electriques are good, though not nearly as magnificent as the French versions. Alizee's English is actually quite good, especially compared to other artists whose first language was not English, and I like the effort she has put in. That said, the English versions lack some of the luster of the French songs, and while good, Alizee is somewhat hard to understand. I highly recommend listening to the English translations, despite all this, especially if you have trouble singing along to the French. ;)

Now, for the meat of the album. The French songs positively radiant talent and emotion. I prefer the ballads on Mes Courants Electriques over the ones on Gourmandises; they sound less manufactured and more emotional. The more upbeat songs practically scream for you to get up and dance, or, if you're in the car, to turn the stereo up as loud as you can stand. Jen Ai Marre and Cest Trop Tard are two of my favorites. Alizee has definitely grown on this album, and the wide range of styles, vocal techniques, and songs on Mes Courants Electriques is proof of this.

Mes Courants Electriques is a must-have CD, regardless of whether you speak French or not. Well worth the money and the wait for it to arrive. Trust me, you'll be checking your mailbox obsessively until it arrives!

Mes Courants Electriques is the perfect follow-up to Alizee's debut album, Gourmandises. Once again written and produced by Mylene Farmer, this album continues where Gourmandises left off. It offers the same delectable lush synth construction with a dark side. From sensuous and passionate to defiant to playful, the impeccable composition evokes deep feelings. Also contains some distinctively mediterannean rhythms that contribute to Alizee's sound.
