Like the other Sunday Brunch CD, I located excellent reissued recordings of Scarlatti's 'Good Humored Ladies'.
Both Sunday Brunch CDs are worth purchasing.

They contain high quality recordings of familiar classical music.

Buy This For The Liner Notes, Not Just The Music!.......2005-11-27

The other reviews describe the music fairly - these are generally pleasant, familiar chamber favorites, well played in a quality recording. Played low, it's perfect background music for Sunday brunch, weekday lunch, or any venue where the conversation (and gossip) takes center stage over the food.

The only thing I'd add to this recording is some muted sounds of silverware on plates, coffee being poured, and catty remarks. Just kidding.

But...the real attraction for this CD is the liner notes...written by the now-notorious Martha Stewart! ("Brunch is fast becoming America's favorite informal way to entertain family and friends.") Along with a suggested menu, including three recipes! These are:

Pecan Waffles With Maple Butter
Red Caviar and Sour Cream Omelettes
Sticky Buns

Well! This is certainly something that other classical recordings can't claim! Furtwangler or von Karajan never thought of *this*! Zubin Mehta, eat your heart out, if you will pardon the expression!

The music is fine. In fact, Tommasini's music from The Good Humored Ladies can be enjoyed guilt-free, secure in the knowledge that "The batter will keep for about 2 days if stored in an air-tight container in the refrigerator."

Further comment seems superfluous. For the entertainer, it absolutely lives up to its billing. For the classical music aficionado, it's fine...if I could just stop thinking about kneading the dough for the sticky buns until it's smooth and satiny. Four stars.

I find this recording to be quite enjoyable. I find it is well suited for use when company comes for dinner. It sounds very nice when played in the background, as it adds a dimension to a wide variety of gatherings.

Don't let the album's title fool you! It is versitile. Don't use it just for brunch! Try it any time of day. The collection is exquisite and the compilation maintains the listener's interest.

This CD should be a part of everyone's collection!

Excellent album !! Great for studying or just relaxing

For casual listeners of classical music, this CD is perfect........1999-01-13

I first purchased this collection on audio tape in 1989. After years of play, it became worn unitl it finally broke, I've searched in vain for a copy in retail outlets. Imagine my delight in finding the CD on Amazon.com! The collection contains perfect background music for quiet gatherings or lazy evenings. The choices are vaied, from Bach's upbeat Brandenburg, to serious Albanoni's Adagio. True to American tastes, the selections are shorter, containing only the most familiar passages.

A large sampling of Stravinsky's piano music........2005-03-04

I bought this cd primarily for "Movements for Piano and Orchestra", a short piece (about 9 minutes) using the 12 tone serial technique developed by Arnold Schoenberg. It is intriguing to hear the "neo-classicist" Stravinsky write in this style. To my ears, and I'm a fan of 12 tone, no new ground is broken here by Stravinsky (the piece was written in 1958-9, seven years after Schoenberg's death) but it's a good piece. The rest of the works are tonal.

I'm not knowledgable as to whether this cd contains all Stravinsky's piano compositions but there is a lot here. Michel Beroff is a fine pianist and the recorded sound is very good. The liner notes are lacking but I've come to expect that from "bargain" classical cds.

This is a two cd package. For $12, I'm very glad to have this set in my collection.

America's intro to non-spaghetti western Italian scores.......2000-08-01

Eighteenth Street Lounge. I've been told it's not only an American label who poses to be the US's answer to international Shibuya & All-In nouveau lounge music labels, but also a night-club for the "nouveau lounge scene" in Washington DC. Whether the club aspect is true or not, I did not cross any ESL releases until a trip to NYC. There, I found the "Covert Operations" compilation, and label heads, "Thievery Corporation's", Sounds from the...Hi-Fi album, only to be greatly dissappointed. These "nouveau lounge" releases were very reliant on electronic dub influenced trip hop that was so underproduced that I could see my own slow moving reflection in the polished sound radiating from the 2 pieces of equipment it took to make these tracks. Not to say this sound is always bad, just misrepresented using the "nouveau lounge" moniker. Since then, Thievery Corporation has gone on to produce a track on the nouveau Bossa Nova queen's (Bebel Gilberto) debut release, thusly, assuring their reputation as America's nouveau lounge duo. So when I found this collection in the group's hometown of DC, I passed and did not purchase it. It was shortly later that I learned of the Italian label, Easy Tempo, and deduced that ESL's release was somehow connected to the label itself.

I soon found this compilation again and did not pass. After hearing "Fantastic Plastic Machine's" compilation tributing Italian film scores (Irma Cocktail Lounge Vol. 1), I had fallen in love with the obscure Bossa Novas and psuedo funk that the genre had to offer. ESL's disc earns four stars just on being authentic and bringing it to the US. This is not the best example of the genre's goldmine, but the CD is worth it for the two Bossas (most notably, the track "Diamond Bossa Nova" which seems to have inspired all of Stereolab's recent chord progressions). This disc relies more on the funkier, soulful side of the era. ESL's compilation of Easy Tempo's vast library is a great intro, but not the most representative of what 60's & 70's Italian film had to offer musically. This seems to be the trend of Eighteenth Street Lounge so we will continue to look towards the "Emporer Norton" label for quality releases of nouveau lounge domestically.

GET IT NOW.......2000-07-11

This release is a sampling of the Easy Tempo series available in Italy that has produced ten striking CDs of vintage Italian film music from the 60s and 70s as compiled by Rocco Pandiani and gang. As the world's biggest Piero Piccioni fan, I can't recommend this sampling heartily enough. Sure, there' some kitsch and camp here - especially to younger ears - but there's also great feeling and panache in some of the extracts from these 60s and 70s film scores by Travioli, and, of course, Piccioni. Acid-jazz fans will also find this a must, as will trip-hop DJs looking for great samples to base their creations around. I can't rave enough about Vol 6 Easy Tempo: A Cinematic Listening Experience and Vol 3 Further Cinematic Adventures from which some of these titles were collected. Vol 6 is jazz-focused and Vol 3 features more samba and bossa-based cuts (and includes Umilani's wild "Lady magnolia"). "Ebony Ride" by Piccioni on Vol. 6 is alone worth the price of the CD. The Italians had a take on jazz and film music unlike any other country: it's bittersweet, funky, spacey, erotic with just enough of the cocktail hour thrown (but not too much). These collections transcend camp and kitsch. They define the heart of a special time that is, sadly, gone. More Easy Tempo, please.

very vibracious..........2000-04-26

To begin, I was amazed when I saw that "Customers who bought this cd also purchased..." Britney Spears! Hmm...? Does the market for campy, sexy Italian cine music overlap with that of Britney Spears? Apparently. Kudos, Amazon, for bridging a gap/association that I'd never even dreamed of.

At any rate, this cd is incredible. Right along with the "covert operations" and "jet set" cd's, and, actually, anything on the esl label.

I bought this while visiting New Orleans, and didn't get to play it until I was on vacation...in a beach cottage/penthouse in Seaside, Florida. As it began to play, and I looked out over the Gulf of Mexico from my suite, the feel of cool hardwood beneath my feet, images of Catwoman (the original, Eartha Kitt) dancing to Jimmy Smith (i.e., "The Cat" cd, composed with Lalo Schifrin) or Henry Mancini (i.e., "Charade" or "Breakfast at Tiffany's"), or even Hugo Montenegro, along with a dozen other vixens in angora and go-go boots all came flashing before my mind's eye. It was then that I suddenly realised that I needed a martini (Bombay Sapphire--Skyy in dire situations-shaken).

Does that at all help with describing this disc? Probably not, so forgive me. It is a fantastic assortment of songs. VERY similiar to the "Beat a Cine..." cd's put out on the "Crippled D*ck, Hot Wax" label.

Get this one, and enjoy the sounds that you will find soon creeping/pusling their way into your soul. As a bit of advice, this CD is very good to listen to over a nice cocktail, perusing the latest issue of Wallpaper or Casa Mica (even Metropolitan Home could suffice).

Wow! Wow! Wow!.......2000-02-11

I found this album totally by accident in Tower Records and bought it simply because it was from the Eighteenth Street Lounge label (ie: Thievery Corporation, Ursula 1000, and Thunderball).

"Easy Tempo" is a collection of ESL's favorite songs produced under the Easy Tempo label a few decades ago...

ESL's own "Jet Society" and the Wallpaper* "Mach 1.5" albums have the same sort of vibe.

brilliant performances, but not quite perfect.......2002-03-22

There is a wealth of great music on this disc, and all at an unbelievable price. The set does not start brilliantly, with a sonata set that sounds as though it has been recorded in his front room. Some of the playing is a bit woolly, but you can tell that his heart is there, especially in the 6th sonata, where the sparks positively fly. For my taste, the 8th starts off way too slow, and the exciting close of the first movement is too fast with way too much pedal, losing all detail. His antipathy towards the 1st sonata is obvious from the sleeve notes, and he plays it rather aggressively.
The sonata recordings come from the beginning of his recording career, and it becomes evident that his control has improved over time. The next disc, entitled `early fame' has an absolutely stonking `suggestion diabolique', the best I have heard on record, and his `toccata' is electric. His `sarcasms' are truly frightening, and the `juvenilia' provide a fascinating insight into the development of Prokofiev's piano music. There is a disc of violin and piano music in this set, and this is good, although I find myself wishing that Pierre Amoyal's tone were not so thin.
The pricing of this set confuses me, in the UK, these discs are available individually at full price, yet I bought the whole set at super budget price, and it is advertised as a super budget set. I was not initially pleased with this set, but I am now so glad that I bought it; it has opened my ears to so much wonderful piano music. I would have liked the inclusion of the fragment of the 10th sonata, though.

A Swinger's Soundtrack.......2000-06-15

In my view, the best of the Easy Tempo series. An outstanding collection of funky/phychedelic tunes from Italian B-movie soundtracks. The songs chosen cover the period from 1966 to 1975, but all share a go-go beat and a sexy undertone. This collection has a heavier 'rock' influence than others in the series, but this in no way detracts from its lounge-appeal.

Dripping with Lalo Schifrin references and riffs stolen from 1960s rock classics, the songs conjure up images of a swinging pre-disco party scene. The perfect CD to unwind to after a tough day, or to play wen you want to turn your home into a mini Playboy mansion - get me Barbi Benton and an ice cold scotch!

This one will please all fans of lush, romantic early 70s Italo-funk-sheen. Lush strings, congas, and female worldless vocals fuel this 70 minute edition of IL CORPO (The Body), with some killer organ, psychedelic guitar, even a little tasty wah-wah, and a persistent, serpentine electric bass that bops and stings from start to finish.

The three main melodies get various treatments, all rich and expertly produced.
