Universal Love

Editorial Reviews

From the Artist
For spiritual practitioners in Tibet, one of the highest aspirations is to cultivate the heart of universal love—to become one who loves all sentient beings unconditionally. Thus, the measure of whether someone has cultivated universal love is illustrated in the classical Tibetan story of the mother who has only one child ("Buckikpe maa tar") and shows how much she would love and give care to her only child. Yes, this is a tall order and, in my case, I am far from actualizing this wonder and magnificence. Perhaps I can say that I have been inspired by this highest aspiration a tiny bit since my early years due to the kindness of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s living inspiration and his teachings on the Tibetan Spiritual culture of universal love. This inspiration gives me some sense of meaning, purpose, and direction, and helps me to channel my anger not to hate anyone, channel my temptations not to become overwhelmed by lust and greed, and channel my heart to try to love all and everyone. I often wonder if, even given a million years to do this, I can cultivate this universal love in my heart. That would be the beginning of the highest journey and meaning of my life.

Product Description
On his first solo album since 1995, former Tibetan monk and Grammy® nominee Nawang Khechog takes listeners on a musical pilgrimage into the experience of compassion through the vehicle of music. Nine original compositions meld the ancient ritual sounds of Nawang’s homeland with traditions from across the globe — to invoke the uplifting power of Universal Love. With Tibetan flute, long horn, and overtone chanting; universal horn; didgeridoo; African drums and kalimba; ocarinas; Native American drum; and chants of universal love by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad, definitely not great.......2007-01-07

I bought this because I remembered this band hit from the '80s, which is Be Near Me. The other songs are ok, but nothing particularly special.

5 out of 5 stars The BEST album of the times........2005-10-05

Almost no one gets it.These guys, are a band! So when they did what great bands do ,nobody cared. This record Rocks, it swoons, pokes fun at thr governmet,Makes you cry, laugh, think,in all, is just perfect. The production, vocals and tightness of the band is as good as anything done in the 80's bar none. BUY IT! listen close and get in on the joke..

4 out of 5 stars ABC from A to Z.......2005-09-17

To cop from Elvis Costello, the debut album from ABC was the dance floor equivalent of "a chainsaw running through a dictionary," albeit one that you could cut a serious rug by. "The Lexicon of Love" was, quite simply, one of the best albums from the MTV British Invasion of the 80's that brought forth the likes of Culture Club, Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet. Songs like "Poison Arrow" and "Look Of Love" were lyrically literate, lushly produced disco-popera's with more than a hint of David Bowie and Roxy Music.

Of course, after a perfect debut, ABC had a heck of a time ever bettering their first act. The second album was a turn towards rock, best shown by the single "That Was Then But This Is Now," which tried to pair the lushness of the debut with a solid rock guitar. More representative of the band is "SOS," but the sharp turn in style - and the less than enthusiastic response to "Beauty Stab" - sent Martin Fry and Mark White into a genre hopping tailspin for "How To Be A Zillionaire." Although "Be Near Me" maintained the stellar quality of the band's earlier singles, the synths became top-heavy and made songs like "Vanity Kills" and the album's title track more novelty than classic.

A near fatal brush with Lymphoma brought Fry back into focus for "Alphabet City," a solid and coherent album that yielded ABC's biggest chart single, "When Smokey Sings." Matching the Motown worship of the debut with a new sense of reserve, "Smokey" and the other singles, "King Without A Crown" and "The Night You Murdered Love" found Fry and White living up to those early Roxy comparisons. Unfortunately, whatever straightforwardness ABC gained on "Alphabet City" evaporated on the glib "Up!," trading in solid popcraft for uninspired sounding pseudo-soul, although "One Better World" at least has its heart in the right place. Their slick and lush sound was also rapidly falling from favor (Nirvana and Nine Inch Nails happened to release their debuts the same year "Up!" came out), and ABC went on hiatus soon after.

With two new songs ("Blame" is killer) and Fry back on the road, ABC has a solid legacy of singles to draw from. So while their albums after the debut were often spotty affairs, "Look Of Love" holds its quality better than many of the video here-today, gone-later-today sorts that populated the MTV Airwaves in the 80's. This collection also neatly supplants "Absolutely ABC" by adding the new songs plus two others, and nixing any worthless remixes. After this, recommended listening is "The Lexicon of Love," a five star album in its own rite.

5 out of 5 stars retro-future genius.......2005-09-07

a seminal collection of wonderfully remastered gems by one of the best acts to come out of the eighties.

ABC crafted a sound and an image that was akin to crossing Bowie with electronica/dance: smooth, hip, stylistic and enduring. The songs are really ageless, offering those of us around in that decade the pleasure of looking forward to re-discovering the brilliance; and those perhaps born in that decade the chance to look back with wonder. Hopefully both of us can expect future creative output by the band!

Long live ABC! (I'm going to see their show in Dallas tonight!)
Gotta see them live on this tour!

3 out of 5 stars Schizophrenic?.......2005-06-29

ABC has never been the same since the smashing debut Look Of Love. There are one or two gems post, for example Ocean Blue - an absolutely brilliant song, perhaps their best. Putting the entire lot into one album is kind of a schizophrenic experience. The How To Be A Millionaire phase was just boring.

And according to the reviews this collection contains Man Trap, the smoky remix of Look Of Love, but I don't see it anyway. Man Trap is a rare gem indeed - literally. It may have served this compilation to have the B Side of Ocean Blue - The Atlantic Mix is even better than the original version.

1 out of 5 stars Very disappointing, considering what it could have been.......2007-04-20

Take a look at the running times:

Disc 1: 60 minutes
Disc 2: 50 minutes
Disc 3: 61 minutes
Disc 4: 58 minutes

What gives Silva? There is *MUCH* more John Williams in the silva screen back catalogue by the Prague Philharmonic than what is in this set, and thats not including their entire discs devoted to Star Wars Films, Indiana Jones Trilogy etc. Why isn't Hook "When You're Alone" included on Disc 2? There's room. Why isn't 1941 on Disc 1? There's room. Why isn't Earthquake on Disc 3? There's room. Why isn't Far and Away on disc 4? There's room. Where's the other ten minutes of the Rare Breed suite on disc 3? Why isn't Midway on disc 1? Where are the Land of the Giants, Time Tunnel and Lots In Space tv themes? Etc. Etc. Etc.

C'mon Silva, most of these 4 disc mega boxes released in the past few years are packed to the brim, but not this one, and with new recordings made after this was released (the terminal, munich, geisha, war of the worlds, star wars ep 3, harry potter 3), it only makes sense for a "re-do" in the next couple of years.

Further, with Silva releasing the 100 Greatest Film Themes on six discs in a couple of months, it's only a matter of time before we see the ultimate six disc john williams set.

This isn't a BAD set to own, but it could have been much better and when compared to the Jerry Goldsmith and John Barry sets in this same series, this one is a major letdown.

5 out of 5 stars Always a pleaser.......2007-03-31

I listen to music all day with patients in my dental chair. This one is a winner with everyone. Patients always comment on how they recognize a song. Who doesn't love John Williams? His music transcends time.

5 out of 5 stars JOHN WILLIAMS 40 Years of Film Music.......2007-01-10

This 4 cd pack is an anthology of all John Williams works. From his earlier works "The Poseidon Adventure" and "Jaws" right through "Indiana Jones" and the most recent"Star Wars" prequel movies are included. Williams work in thriller and horror are also included. If you are into soundtracks and love movie music this is an essential buy. The quality of the music is excellent. With ten or more tracks on each cd it's well worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars Movie Music Magic & Memorabilia.......2006-12-13

This four CD set expands on the previously released John Williams Greatest Hits. It's a grand collection of nearly four hours of famous music scores from over forty years. There are many songs never before available in any collection. The short liner notes tell a great tale of musical movie history and include all of his numerous award nominations and wins. Each song (oddly enough) mentions the actors and the director, so fond are John Williams's memories of his work with these people. All of the conductors are mentioned along with specific orchestras, choirs, arrangement and orchestration specialists and even the publishers (contractual, I am sure). The only things missing are his early television scores, such as those for "Lost In Space" (by Johnny Williams back then). But with four discs, one has nothing to complain about and everything to enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars John Williams: 40 Years of Outstanding Film Music.......2006-11-28

I have been a huge fan of John Williams and I have known about his music for years. However, I never actually bought any of his music on CD. I was rather skeptical about purchasing this CD but when it arrived I knew I had made the right choice. The sound quality of the compilation is outstanding. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra do a great job under the direction of Paul Bateman. The original London Symphony Orchestra CDs of John Williams' Star Wars Trilogy CDs are marginally better but this is still a great CD compilation. If you love ET, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter, you will love this compilation soundtrack. Buy it, listen to these CDs in the car and enjoy every minute of the collection!!!

Album Description

And Love Said No: Greatest Hits 1997-2004 is a digitally remastered anthology celebrating HIM's first decade together with an updated selection of the band's biggest hits. HIM recorded two new songs for this set, the title track and a rocking cover of Neil Diamond's classic "Solitary Man."

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Essential for any HIM fan.......2007-06-08

I absolutely fell in love with HIM last fall when my friend "introduced" the music to me. It took a few weeks, but by now they are my favorite band by far. I can't get enough of the songs on this compilation. The newest cover, "Solitary Man" adds everything that Neil Diamond didn't do when it was originally written; I even let me parents listen to the cover and they think that its great.

I have recommended this compilation to all of my friends, and several of them have either started listening to HIM little by little thereafter or have simply fallen in love with the band. I could not have been happier with this compilation and am looking forward to the rest of HIM's career as well as the July release of Venus Doom.

3 out of 5 stars When Love and Cheese Embrace.......2007-05-16

This three year-old European compilation was just released in the States, and it provides a handy overview of HIM's homegrown Scandinavian love metal, which can be of interest to rock fans on the prowl for new sounds but who don't feel like diving into the proper albums. However, this collection of singles washes out the already miniscule creativity and excitement of the proper HIM albums. Ville Valo's goth romance is surely unique, but the band's musical backdrop rarely rises above slick and professional 80s arena metal. Nobody in the band except Valo makes an impression on the listener, and the performances are so polished and overproduced that no real advancement or growth can be detected in this collection, even though the tracks were recorded over a period of seven years and four studio albums. Bland riffs and uninspired rhythms are often unsuccessfully spruced up with annoying piano or keyboard squiggles, as in "Join Me in Death," "Heartache Every Moment," and "When Love and Death Embrace," and weak guitar solos almost always mimic the vocal melodies from the verses. Even worse, the band's awful ballads such as "Gone with the Sin" and "Close to the Flame" would induce the gag reflexes of even the most jaded hair metal swooners. This is all a shame because the band really can rock out when they feel like it, as in "Buried Alive by Love," "Right Here in My Arms," and their best-ever track "Your Sweet Six Six Six," indicating that the proper HIM albums should be explored for true love metal treasures. Granted, HIM are of interest due to the distinct outlook and intriguing personality of Ville Valo, but this collection does little to enhance the band's unimpressive chops. [~doomsdayer520~]

4 out of 5 stars Peace And Hair Grease.......2006-02-17

Lost Boyz second and last release prior to the death of member Freaky Tah, Love, Peace & Nappiness' lead singles took us on familiar ground with the group, but overall was a whole different experience. "Summer Time" is the lead song for this album that was a good example of the group's signature style of music. Continuing with the mainstream sound, "Me & My Crazy World" produced by DJ Ron G is about being in love with two women. For a more lyrical, darker experience, "Beasts From The East" featuring A+, Redman & Canibus takes the group to unfamiliar heights that continue with "My Crew" featuring A+ & Canibus. The slow sample of the title track solidified a position for the Boyz with a feel good mainstream song. "So Love" is about the feeling within a relationship over R&B harmonies. Continuing with their up-beat formula of a gritty type bounce groove, "What's Wrong" they admit "...we can do this all night..." with "Certain Things We Do" following the direction and aim. Freaky Tah flows solo on "Get Your Hustle On" with his raspy voice added to the album's versatility. The story line on "Tight Situations" was narrated well by Mr. Cheeks as the horn section made the flow more intense. The album's elevation declines as the remainder of Love, Peace & Nappiness was more or less the love and peace of the album.

4 out of 5 stars Its sad to me.......2005-11-26

Because my boy Freeky Tah had gotten killed but on this album he is showing out, good beats good lyrics and Tah R.I.P.!!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Lost Boyz- Love, Peace & Nappiness.......2005-07-13

The Lost Boyz (Mr. Cheeks, Freaky Tah, Pretty Lou and Spigg Nice) second album "Love, Peace & Nappiness" (1997) is a solid release. LB starts the album off strong with their own version of "Summer Time". They follow it up with the exceptional Ron G produced "Me and My Crazy World" a track about being in love with two women. Mr. Cheeks then collabs with Canibus, A+ and Redman on the raw "Beasts From the East". The title track "Love, Peace and Nappiness" feat. King Keiwanee & Da Blak Pharoah is something special, an upbeat LB anthem. Another track for the ladies follows in the laidback "So Love". A+ and Canibus make another appearance on "My Crew", then Cheeks and Tah drop some decent tracks in "What's Wrong" and "Certain Things We Do". Mr. Cheeks recalls growing up on "Games" feat. Luv Bug Starski. Freaky Tah rhymes with a deep flow on "Get Your Hustle On". "Tight Situations" has LB & Queens Most Wanted telling a thugged out story of a jack. The Lost Boyz provide another outstanding track on the Bink Dawg produced "From My Family To Yours" (Dedication) feat. Queens Most Wanted, LB puts mad heart into this cut while remembering the deaths of Pac, BIG and friends. The Lost Boyz provided a memorable album with "Love, Peace & Nappiness", one which I recommend for the collection.

    5 out of 5 stars Real ..........2002-09-17

When I chill out and blow some smoke into the air, I play my LOST BOYZ cd's and I'm telling you it's lovely. LOST BOYZ are some original catz. They keep to themselves, never cross each others boundaries and keep it real. I respect their group to the fullest. To listen to their music is to know them and what they represent. All I can say is, their talented brotha's and their music is off the chain!!!!

4 out of 5 stars No Happiness just Nappiness.......2001-10-30

I gave this album only four stars because I know personally there was a lot of tension building up while recording this album and had it not been there (the tension) this album would have been off the hook.

I bought this CD to replace the original record album (Where Love Has Gone). The sound quality is wonderful--we love it!

5 out of 5 stars The Diva has a point..........2004-02-06

Moonchildiva has raised an important point. Jack is Jack, just as Matt Monro is Matt Monro. Neither of these great singers were trying to be Frank or Tony.

It's human nature to use comparison points, especially where you have such landmark artists as Sinatra, but it is also damaging to upcomers to have that hanging over them the whole time.

This is my third double Jack set and yet another classic collection from his golden period. When you look back at his releases from the sixties alone, he was one prolific guy. Not just in terms of the overall number of albums (all classics, too), but in terms of the speed of the recording process.

Jack often recorded an entire album of songs in two or three days, which is staggering considering how pampered (and under-talented) most modern artists are. There is just no way to get your head around how good Jack Jones is. He is beyond comparison.

There was a long debate in quantum physics over whether Light was a particle or a wave, as it could manifest as both under different circumstances. In the end, people had to conclude that it was neither, and that it was a quantum or sub-atomic entity in its own right.

In the same way, we need to accept the uniqueness of Jack Jones, and the fact that he exists independently of the Sinatras and the Bennetts, as the Diva suggested. Besides, any woman who looks like Joanna Cassidy from Blade Runner has to be taken seriously.

Another must-buy set at the usual superb Amazon.com price.

5 out of 5 stars Why compare Jack to Frank?.......2003-01-22

Jack stands on his own in the singing business, everyone's influenced by someone, and who better than perhaps Frank or Tony, but I don't believe Jack's trying to be anyone, trying to sing like anyone, trying to do someone else's songs -- don't listen to the ones who are saying this! Just buy this great CD (and other Jack Jones CD) and be prepared to be taken into a wonderful world of music that's beyond comparison. If you've heard all of Frank's music and all of Tony's music, then Jack's gonna be very refreshing. Here's a voice that will thrill you with its power.

5 out of 5 stars A GREAT COLLECTION FOR JACK JONES FANS.......2000-02-18

The good people at MCA/Universal are putting out some great discs at a helluva bargain; Sammy Davis, Carmen Mcrae, Eydie Gorme, and this great disc by Jack Jones (there are two other collections by Jack that I HIGHLY reccomend) The first half of this disc is beautifully orchestrated, right from opening strains the classic reading of its title track, WHERE LOVE HAS GONE, written by the incomparable team of Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn. Standouts on this album include the "alternate" lyrics used by Jack on the Rodgers & Hart evergreen IT NEVER ENTERED MY MIND, the fine jazz trumpet solo abetting Mr. Jones on WILLOW WEEP FOR ME, and the obscure gem THE LORELEI (not the Gershwin song of the same name I thought it was) Give TO LOVE AND BE LOVED a chance too; Sinatra's version is champ, but it's refreshing to hear what Jack did with it. Speaking of Ol' Blue Eyes, who else could sing MY KIND OF TOWN? Jack Jones, that's who! Complete with a new set of lyrics from Sammy Cahn and a jazzy new arrangement, Jack puts his own spin on this ode to the great city (from which THIS music lover hails) without ever trying to upstage Sinatra. Very classy, and very swingin'! The lovely SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY has a very melancholy arrangement and Jack's voice is at its most wistful on this track, which sets the mood perfectly. Perhaps my favorite track from the MY KIND OF TOWN sides is TRAVELLIN' ON, something of a country-meets-swing type song that gets downright gospel-like toward the great finish. And the great country standard KING OF THE ROAD closes out this wonderful disc, and Jack has a ball with it. Hoping to see more of this kind of product out there; Jack Jones' albums have been out of reach for far too long! Again, I also suggest the other two Jack Jones collections (WIVES & LOVERS//DEAR HEART and SHE LOVES ME//THERE'S LOVE AND THERE'S LOVE) to anyone who appreciates great music. Well worth the waiting time if theyre on special order! Listen and enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars the definitive post-Sinatra versions of several songs.......2000-01-21

The first of the albums on this two CD set, "Where Love Has Gone" sounds as if it was Jones' attempt to remake Sinatra's "Only the Lonely," right down to the title track by Cahn/Van Heusen. While it doesn't reach that level, Jones reinterprets songs like "Willow Weep For Me" and "Angel Eyes" and makes them sound fresh and new. The second album, "My Kind of Town" contains more contemporary songs - contemporary that is to 1965, but is still well worth a listen especially on Neil Hefti's jazzy "I Must Know." Just great vocal pop music.

This music is great for yoga, mediation or going to sleep. Very original tracks, with a lot of eastern sounds. Definite recommendation.

5 out of 5 stars Music for your spirit.......2007-01-19

I picked this up in India after asking for a good CD to take home, having no knowledge of the artists background or popularity. I love flute music that's played well and this is exceptionally well played. What I like about this music is the use of a broad variety other instruments used (appropriately) in many of the tracks including the drums, chanting, the digeridoo and horn. This music touches the heart, spirit and soul. Though world in flavour at times, it's very far from cheesy New Age.

If you like this, check out Manose, an exceptional flautist from the Himalayas, that you've probably not heard of. Of course I also like Riley Lee and Kazu Matsui who have produced an exceptional catalogue of work.

Universal Love is a beautiful collection of music that quickly became one of my favourites. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

      Album Description

Perhaps Australia's top star of stage musicals, particularly renown for his role as the famous Phantom of The Opera, Anthony Warlow delivers an excellent compilation representing the first stage of his career, with tracks such as 'Music Of The Night', 'I've Got A Crush On You', 'Soliloquy' & 'Lily's Eyes'. Polydor Australia.

4 out of 5 stars Act One Review.......2006-07-03

The power and range of Anthony Warlow's voice is incredable. The song selections were nice as well, and incouraged me to find more of his CD's.

3 out of 5 stars Magnificent Voice Marred By Inferior Sound Quality.......2006-03-12

Polydor collections often contain great selections, but the sound quality is frequently less than stellar; this is this case here. A huge fan of Warlow, I am disappointed with the inconsistent sound quality of this disc. "Hiss" is audible between songs and sometimes during. Sound levels are soft on some pieces and then increase noticably on following numbers. With all the technology available to temper problems, it's a shame that Polydor did not give this magnificent voice the star treatment it deserves.

5 out of 5 stars Best Of The Best!.......2006-01-08

Wow This CD Got Me Hooked! I just had to buy every one of his CDs after this. Experience here, the Best songs of the BEST SINGER! Australia's #1 singer, Anthony Warlow is known internationally for his role as Enjolras in Les Miserables from the 'Complete Symphonic Recording" and for recording the Complete Work of Wildhorn's "Jekyll and Hyde" in the lead roles. He has released a number of solo recordings as well as cast recordings.
Anthony Warlow is, by far, my very favourite singer in the world! His voice just doesn't compare to anyone else. Classically trained, his voice has been described as a baritone with a high top. From his deep baritone, to the smooth crooning notes of a big band hit, to the modern day "pops and squeals" of rock/pop music, to the effortless soaring pure endless notes that are Anthony Warlow's trademark--he's got it all.

This is the first (and only) "best of" recording that Anthony has released. It is an ideal introduction to the man, his work and his other recordings

5 out of 5 stars The Best of Boyzone and the Best of Love Songs.......2006-03-31

You simply can't resist it,you simply can't. "Boyzone" compiled in one single CD is always going to be every music fanatics's treasure and this CD doesn't disappoint us. Love ballads with a smooth and genial rhythm are of course rarities but the vocal magic of Boyzone lies in translating this wild dream to a bare reality.

All the songs in this compilation are classics and are sung by these bunch of out-of-this-world boys in fascinating fashion. The lyrics of "Father and Son", "You Needed Me", "Mystical Experience" and "All That I Need" arrest our fancy and the peerless music and superb tunes of "Words", "Coming Home Now" and "Baby Can I Hold You" are simply marvellous. "Words" is probably one of the three best songs ever made.

A perfect album that would carry on to spred its charm over the ages.

4 out of 5 stars Covers and much more.......2004-12-01

This is an ideal gift for someone on your list who likes ballads, and doubly so if the person also likes boy bands.

Fans of Boyzone will already have many of the songs, but this compilation puts together some of their best work in one huge package, which also includes six VCD videos.

Running through the album, you'll find many familiar songs that are irresistable for an impromptu singalong:

      Your Song (Elton John)
Baby Can I Hold You (Tracy Chapman)
      Words (Bee Gees)
      Father and Son (Cat Stevens)
      Ben (Michael Jackson)
Love Me For a Reason (Donny Osmond)
      You Needed Me (Anne Murray)
I Love the Way You Love Me (John Michael Montgomery)

In addition to these, it contains Boyzone hit ballads such as "No Matter What" and "And I".

The only thing about this album that I didn't particularly care for was the way they tried to copy the original singers' intonations, so that the songs sound more like the original, rather than a Boyzone cover version.

A nice easy listening album, and a treasure trove for Boyzone fans.
