Good CD, quiet lounge music, with here and there some quicker tracks. Good buy.

A Must-Have!.......2005-06-22

This set presents a deliciously balanced mix of up- and down-tempo latin-flavoured music. I bought the set banking on the presence of soild artists I already knew of, like Zuco 103 and Da Lata, but was also pleasantly surprised by unfamiliar artists such as Stereo Maracana.
Great turned up at a party, or turned down for a study session or chill event. I liked this set enough to start slowly amassing all of the other CDs in the Brazilectro series.... they're all absolutely worth having.

Not electro and not from Brazil - but still good.......2005-06-12

The Brazilectro series neither presents electo (not even pure electronic) nor Brazilian music. So the title is misleading. Nevertheless, brazilectro session 6 contains a fine and diverse collection of Latin (or Latin flavored) music in the area of donwntempo, lounge, house and nu jazz.

Summer = Brazilectro.......2004-07-20

At least to me. I can't imagine a summer coming by these days without seeing the newest from this franchise that now spans 6 volumes! (8 if you include the Brazilution series on Ministry of Sound) And what is Brazilectro without more exclusive cuts? That's what sets the series apart from the commercial compilations and there are plenty here along with neat remixes.

The style of this set is very similar to the 5th one, only a bit funkier with CD2 being the stand-out. On CD1 you have some African influences along with mellowed out musical tracks like dr. beatnick's cool Terra Nova and Briskey's "Galactic Jack", remixed by Buscemi (if you have St. Germain Des Pres Cafe IV, this is it). Ikon's "Vai E Vem" is given a smooth remix with a twist and Soul Surfer's "Imploracao" has a cool feel to it with a touch of, I believe, Rosalia De Souza's vocal sampled into it. Even [Re:jazz] have a funky cut to close out disc 1. But disc 2 proves to be the strongest with standout cuts being Cool Hipnoise's swingin' "Dama Dada", Ty's soulful and rich "Inner Love", Petgroove's vocal and spacey bossa "Beside Brazil". But the real gem - A Bossa Eletrica's "Tudo Esta Previsto" will take you to Brazil and there more great tunes.

It's Brazilectro! Always recommended. And of course some of these cuts will appear on rip-off compilations that will come out in a few months. The bad - CD1 doesn't start so promising to me - they should've kicked it off with Dr. Beatnik's cut, "Parabens" is on Brazilectro 6's sister compilation titled "Brazilution 5.2" (also recommended), and while the packaging is beautiful like a book (same as Brazilectro 5), don't carry it around everywhere because the discs will probably slip out! It's not quite as strong as the 4th one, but is about on par with the 5th one since disc 2 makes up for disc 1's few missteps.

ALSO - Brazilectro 6 has a DVD out now in Europe, which has even more tunes on it. So it's definitely worth the pick-up if you're a fan of the series - it reminds me of Red Hot&Rio's TV special. And if you really dig this - check out the rest of the series, Brazilution 5 and 5.2, Brazilation and Nova Latino IV.

Where's the Brazilian music?.......2006-09-30

As a big fan of this series, my expectations may have been too high. This is the worst of the series. It lacks the Brazilian influence. This release is "stretching the soup", so to speak.

Another Terrific Addition to the Franchise.......2006-09-30

I said it a few years ago, and will say it again. When summer comes, you know there will also be a Brazilectro. Since 2000, this series has taken off and brought loads of artists into the forefront. What aways sticks out in the series are the un-released tracks which, much like sister compilation Brazilution, are almost always quality - so much so, it warrants picking up the EP releases on vinyl. Volume 8 was compiled this time by Ralf Zitzmann, and while I can't comment much about him, I can safely say that he did a wonderful job of pulling the songs and presenting a great blend of tunes.

For the music, the format's the same. 2 discs. CD 1 starts out with a cool Joe Bataan instrumental and is followed up by a duet with two of my favorite singers, Marcos Valle & Joyce, with "Value". I like the beat and anytime you get musicians of their caliber together, you know you're in for something special. But going back to insrumentals and jazz, that's pretty much the feel of disc one - jazz and some funk. The Visioneers "Dirty Old Bossa Nova" lives to the title and has a neat, easy going lounge vibe to the music. The same can be sayd for DJ Day's "Sunday" - in fact that's one of my favorite tracks of the first disc. Other highlights on disc one was an energetic remixto Poncho Sanchez's renditoin of "Watermelon Man". Good stuff! Sounds like something you would've heard on the Rio Evolutions series. I also dug the "Lenda" by Ceu. Good to have a true Brazilian cut on there because to be honest, there was a lot on disc 1 that was Spanish. Meanwhile I thought that disc two had a few misses but overall I really liked the experimental vibe. Good find with the 7 Samurai (think Break & Bossa) remix to a classic Jorge Ben cut. S-Tone Inc's new album really is wonderful and they feature a strong track from it titled "Beira Do Mar". Very classy sound, nice and smooth. Other cool tracks to me were Big Bang's "To the Full Every Minute" remixed by Yam Who, "Smoothpipe" by Flamengo Star and "Dia Brazil" by the Juju Orchestra.

I recommend this one - it's a strong entry to the series. Not all of the songs really grabbed me and there were some real hea-scratchers that were abit too much of a stretch. But overall it's a very good double-disc set. Of course, there are many that say "this isn't Brazilian music" and a lot of the songs aren't, but when you really look at the series and how it started, from the first volume to this one, you get the idea that it's a series inspired by Brazilian elements in music in general and electronica with jazz. It's a terrific blend of different cultures and musical styles. Also, it looks like SPV-USA is distributing this so you get to forego those expensive import price-tags - you're getting two discs of good tunes for 14 bucks! (consider that Cafe Copacabana, which is maybe half as good, runs in the $38 range). So check this one out, you can also check out volumes 1-6 in a box set (although it's missing a few cuts), volume 7 was solid too and last but not least, if you can, get this in vinyl as Brazilectro has a nasty habit of chopping songs up in disc format. Also remember that the knock-off comps, including the next Nova Latino, will usually be at least a year and a half behind Brazilectro/Brazilution. So expect to see some cuts from this double-disc set out next summer on the knock-offs.

Another great compilation........2006-09-24

Every year in the late summer I look forward to the newest release in this series--and this one does not disappoint. Excellent compliation.

The success of the previous Brazilectro releases confirms Audiopharm's philosophy and also spurs it on to improve the series from release to release. In the last few years, Brazilectro has become a measuring stick of the genre. Other labels have tried and tried to play a role in this element with simply knit imitations, yet the standard raised by Audiopharm simply could not be reached by the others; at their best, they only produced cheap copies with suspiciously close-to-identical track listings.

The latest instalment, Session 7, once again supplies a first-class set of authentic Brazilian songs and those inspired by Brazilian music, as well as classics and contemporary constructions that were either produced exclusively for Brazilectro or only available on 12-inch vinyl. In total, 24 catchy club filler and sweet promises romp around on the double CD/3 Vinyl box - all there to listen to while sitting at the home on the flokati.

Of course, the lavish packaging, a constant for all the Brazilectro albums, consists of an embossed digibook with brillant cover art work. This time one looks at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, a futuristic, spacey designer construction of the legendary Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, in front of the Zuckerhut.

One look at the track listing reveals that Audiopharm is again acting on the pulse of current happenings. Filled with international artists with their newest productions, the Audiopharm has been able to unify this variety in an extremely lithe, organic sequence. Highlights are everywhere and many, and listening to Brazilectro Session 7 resembles being a civil servant in time and space, since one fancies sitting under the sugar loaf in the pulsing South American metropolis of Rio de Janeiro.

Recommendable when listening to such a mix, from the velvety soft to the more than lively, is to down a luscious cold Caipirinha, making the pleasure all the more authentic. Then the Brazil feeling will flow into the blood and transform the Brazilectro gourmet into a serene, sensuous - and perhaps also - better person.

Perfect!.......2005-09-03

If you liked the first six, you'll LOVE this one--it has everything that you could hope for. Unlike some other series, this one gets better with each new volume. Great beats, great rhythms, smooth vocals ... love it!! UPDATE: After repeated listenings, I've decided that this may very well be the very BEST in this already great series! Disk 1 is smooth and beautiful (with 1 exception); Disk 2 is intense and funky. Highly recommended.

A must-have for modern Brazilian music fans.......2004-08-06

The Brazilectro comps are great, but this one is a legend. What started with Bebel Gilberto and the Serve Chilled comps ended up with Thievery Corporation and the Brazilectro comps and recently NuSpirit Helsinki. They put me over the edge on Brazilian music. There are so many gems on this double-CD album, Stand out are the S-Tone Inc and the second half of Disc 1, starting with Elevator, Little Big Bee... and Seis por Ocho on Disc 2. I could go on. Do yourself a fovour and buy it.

One of the Better Compilations out there.......2002-02-05

I guess there should really be a guide to buying "new Brasil" compilations. I picked this one up in the summer and what can I say, it was pretty impressive. The artists are big time names, from Clara Moreno (daughter of Joyce, who did the original "Feminina" years ago) to Truby Trio to Nair Candia to Ian Pooley - most of the tracks on this cd were played in the latin clubs; some still are.

I recommend this cd. If you enjoyed the first Brazilectro series, you'll definitely like this one. Through and through, the double disks in this one are a bit better than the first in my opinion. Besides the artists I mentioned, noteworthy artists who have made their stamp in this movement are: Janice, S-Tone Inc., Faze Action (who has his own compilation out) and Da Lata.

The Brazilectro series in general are a bit different than the "Break N Bossa" series - notably, SPV is a German label while Schema is Italian, and Schema tends to promote their own artists more on the "BNB" comps. There is very little overlap in these - except for the more popular artists like Jazzanova, S-Tone Inc., Truby Trio, Faze Action and etc. Either way, if you like this, you'd probably like the BNB even more.

ALSO, if you did pick this up and enjoy it, you would probably enjoy the Glucklich Compilations too. They were done by Truby Trio, and if the "new" sound is the only sound you're looking for, don't get any of the Glucklich compilations except for the THIRD and FOURTH edition. The first too are more for vinyl junkies (like me).

Brilliant Intelligent Music.......2001-08-17

The original Brazilectro was just as brilliant as this second set. All of the tracks blend seamlessly, however the intellegence of the music is always front and center. This music is so rich that it rewards at many levels. This compilation is more coherent than Bossa Tres Jazz (although Bossa Mundo improved on that) However I find all of these compilations very engrossing.

RELAXING & BEAUTIFUL. The best -- by far -- of this series........2002-09-28

Much more downtempo than #1 & #2 and a lot less cheesy too (although I like them both!). But more sophisticated, better musically. The only "bad" song is "Hit the Road Jack" (and I usually like Mo' Horizons) but that's more because it's out of place here. Plus, with all the compilations around, almost all of the songs are "new" -- except "Tenderly" which is a fantastic song, but this makes the 3rd copy that I own.

Solid - different than the first two........2002-07-29

I guess it's official - SPV, or Audiopharm, is combating the Break & Bossa series. But seriously, with this release adn with the upcoming Brazilectro 4, you have to wonder. THe styles are different, as the SPV seems to be more of the German label's groups while of course, Break & Bossa features mostly Schema acts.

This is a solid double disc set. It's different from the previous two Brazilectro's because it is, honestly, darker. While on Brazilectro 2 you had Clara Moreno's upswing samba remake of Feminina and etc, and on Brazilectro 1 you had DJ Rodriguez and light tracks by Yoshinori Sunahara, you don't have that same kind of thing here IMO. Mo'HOrizon's "Hit the Road Jack" is the closest thing and I didn't really like that track.

Otherwise, it's a soultry cd. More for exploring the private, white sanded desolate beaches along the coast with hints of the forest behind you than partying in Rio De Janeiro. Notable tracks are Acalento by Janice and Teardrop Butterfly by Praful, along with a smooth and airy vocal by Os Ipanemas called "Icarai".

I definitely would recommend this CD, but if you've heard Break N Bossa 5 be warned, this is nothing like that at all. It's slower and more melancholy of a sound, not nearly as hard and "Bossa" ish. To recommend something similar... maybe Boss-A-Troniq 2001 or, to be honest, PureBraziliance, which is another compilation made by Faze Action.

Not truly Brazilian or Electro, but nice.......2004-11-23

When I first bought this CD I was a little ticked to discover that many of the artists aren't actually Brazilian--some are, but a lot of the songs were recorded in Europe by European artists. Then I looked at the CD cover and saw the subtitle, "Latin flavored club tunes." Hah hah. Latin-flavored as opposed to truly Latin. But once I got past the sense of being sold a facsimile of the real thing, I gave this CD a chance and just listened to it. I realized I liked it. If you like lounge/club music with a Latin beat, as I do, you will enjoy this CD.

Like most lounge compilations, this is a very eclectic mix of music by many different artists. In fact, this CD serves as an excellent sampler of the wide range of musical styles included within the Latin-flavored club genre. Just as not all the music is from Brazil, not all of it can be categorized as electro-beat. Some of the tracks are pop-song-oriented, some are hardcore club beats, and still others are jazz-oriented. What they have in common is Latin rhythm and a hip club mood. It's hard to listen to the upbeat numbers on this CD without wanting to get up and swing your hips at some point. The slower tempo songs set a laid back chillout mood. The end result is that this two-CD set works both as background party music and as serious late-night mood music.

Excellent CD, once again.......2004-06-17

With me being so pleased with the session 4 compilation, expectation for the 5 was reasonably high, and I was not disappointed. The Brazilectro 5 is once again another excellent set from the series. There is no need for me to go in detail and explain the music, but if you enjoy relaxed, hip and some club style music (not techno, house and trance stuff), and top of that, some Euro acid jazz, this is the album for you. I got it playing everyday at work, it's the funky style of Cafe Del Mar.

Best In the Series.......2003-10-12

Brazilectro 5 is by far & away the best in the series -- even manages to outdo Brazilectro 2, which is no small feat...

Of course, as in all the Brazilectro series, it is not without its own "what were they thinking?!" moments (such as the opening track on cd 2), but oh well...

The packaging is beautiful, almost like a book, with some really great pics of Rio inside.

Trippier, Funkier, Jazzier & altogether Juicier. Several tracks heavily influenced by Jobim. Highly recommended. If you are struggling to buy just one CD in the series, I would encourage you to get this one (but I would go ahead & get #2 while you're at it...)

Good, but it's not that bad.......2003-10-08

In my opinion this is one of the best brazilian jazz collection. I think that if you are looking for pure brazilian music in any language, this is what you need.
Many of these songs are brazilian but others songs are from different countries like Norway. It's a great collection of songs for listening or going out. In spite of this, I can't give a 5 because there are few songs too slowly for me.

Another Great Chapter in the Franchise.......2003-07-17

Audiopharm does it again with the yearly upbeat, summer sun Brazilectro double disk compilation. And now it's been released in the United States only a few months after being released in Germany!

Unlike Brazilution, which is the more melancholic side of the franchise, Brazilectro remains with Audiopharm. This release features a lot of good tracks, some old, some new, but most importantly holds true with the tradition of featuring exclusive cuts. CD one starts out with the original vinyl version of Marcos Valle's On-Line, then features Rosalia De Souza's Maria Moita followed by Eli Goulart's Sunny (maybe my favorite cut on the CD). Paula Lima comes on with a sort of 70's sounding funk track then SunSoul mellows it down enough for a caipirinha. Other artists that add to CD one are Can 7, Banda Favela, Suba, Tricatel and the old school Bossa cut "Copa" featuring Roberto Menescaol & Wanda Sa.

CD two starts out great but IMO, it sort of wans. Zimpala starts with a slow romantic track followed by a funk styled beach song "Fotihouse". You can feel the African in that track! Next up is Audiopharm's own Moodorama with a very chimey cut from their new CD, followed by hot Rio club cut "No Batida Do Pandeiro" by Andrea Ciminelli. Following up is a flute heavy remix of "Mi Amor Es" by Los Ladrones before Marshmellows comes in with "Tijuana Gold". The rest of CD two didn't grab me so much - Grupo Batuque's cut and Nicola Conte's Arabesque remixed weren't new to me, and the cd didn't close as strong as Brazilectro 4 did. That says a lot to me since I enjoy Da Lata's music (Liliana Chachain). Some cuts are cool - they're a little jazzy.

All in all, this is definitely worth the purchase. Brazilectro is one of the top three comp series to me along with Break & Bossa (Schema) and Glucklich (Compost). Good artists, good tunes. The exclusive cuts are key - and most cuts, although not "exclusve", are extremely hard to find. But the downside - No Janice Andrade, no Justin, and there are Rosalia De Souza cuts that would have fit in better - and some cuts were filler. But the value and diversity of the compilation is what really separates Brazilectro from the Rio Lounge's, Nova Latina's, Nu Brazil's, etc. But of the exclusive tracks, there is no Janice Andrade, and no Justin. Enjoy!

Best Brazilectro Yet.......2002-09-04

After collecting the previous three Brazilectros, I never really knew what to expect from the other. THe first was nice - starting out with De-Phazz and winding on through to a nice mix of Brazilian styles European tracks/Brazil tracks. The second one was a bit better - more solid, and seemingly more "soulful". Then came the third one, where you could tell that by then, audiopharm was really trying to fine tune what they wanted this successful franchise to be. Arguably, I didn't really like the third one as much as the previous two.

THen came this one. Incredible double disc! Brazilectro 4 starts out easy, similar to the first one with a kind of beaty track. Then you're nodding along, getting the tracks until finally, the Fantastic Plastic Machine chime in with an interesting remake of "The Whistle Song". Next up comes Blak Beat Niks in "I'll Be There", and an unbelievable song by Carla Alexandar - who has an interesting similarity in voice to Daude. The next few tracks are a bit down - but the cd picks up with Tom & Joyce's Queixume, and the CD ends with an awesome romantic track by Justin & Joyce.

The Second cd doesn't lower steam - although it's a bit more "romantic" than the first. "One Day" by Janice hosted by Brown, Smith & Grey is now one of my favorite tracks, very very sensual. Then you move along and find a real gem: S-Tone Inc.'s Arejar remixed by Soulstance, of the Schema label. This remake seems a bit similar to Septima Ola by Los Ladrones - very airy, very free - very Schema ish (think Los Ladrones meets Nicola Conte). The CD ends with Mondo Grosso telling the story "Star Suite" to a funky Bossa Beat. Soulful track, upbeat, and a promise that Brazilectro will be back again, just like the summer. And there's a lot in between that I left out.

Agreeable Latin-dance, with a disc one standout.......2001-11-26

Broad reaching to say the least, this collection of "Latin flavored club tunes" proves more a blend of modern nu-jazz (Truby Trio, Jazzanova), your parents' lounge loafers (De-Phazz, The Boys From Brazil) and connecting house points in between (Basement Jaxx, Rinocerose). Ambitious, yes, but effectively realized (especially so on disc one) with DJ Paco de la Cruz's willingness to cull from over ten years of catalog. Yoshinori Sunahara's "Sun Song `70" is brazilpop so upbeat you instantly understand the allure, while S-Tone Inc wraps Air-sampled cascading keys in a thick percussive baking. That's just the start, and even a slight disappointment as these beach-cooked beauties, nearly all at radio edit length, could go twice that length without complaint off their strong instrumental rhythms.

Disc two has a letdown with tracks more square than hip; John Beltran's snoozer and DJ Rodriguez's naff "la la la" child chorus for starters. Still, Thievery Corporation, Nicole Conte, and Smith and Mighty (Afrobeat gem "Same") make for tidy discoveries. What's not agreeable to your tastes will probably still be acceptable, so nabbing 23 tracks in one package like this makes for a good deal. 3.5 stars

A Nice Compilation.......2001-09-22

I was a bit late in the game with obtaining this Compilation. But having collected this one and the second edition, I realize I missed out! This is a terrific compilation. It emulates, in many ways, Eighteenth Street Lounge "Jet Society" and even Bossa-Tronique. Great songs by Mo' Horizons are included along with S-Tone Inc., Truby Trio, Thievery Corporation, Yoshinori Sunahara and many others. Even the Boys from Brazil have a track. On a side, the actual albums where the songs come from in the case of Thievery Corporation and The Boys From Brazil are pretty good to me, and after hearing another S-Tone Inc. and Mo' Horizons song I'm convinced I will purchase their music in the future too.

I enjoyed this compilation. It isn't extremely beat heavy, it's more of a Brazilian cafe/lounge feel but very smooth. New sounds from Brazil mold that has taken form. Enjoy!

Enjoy a very good samba-bossa groove.......2000-11-15

Looking for something really good? Do you like music from Brazil and new grooves? Brazilectro is for you, but not only: organize a party and put Brzilectro on. The fun is gurateed! (I went to Fnac in Madrid, a good music shop off-line. I shaw the CD and I pick it up. Normal risk. Back at home I had the grateful sueprise!)Do it!

ALMOST the *Complete* Set.......2005-09-23

To be fair, Brazilectro is a franchise that has expanded in it's 5+ years of existence. This box set has the Brazilectro side ONLY; sessions 1 through 6 off the Audiopharm label. But this is in all honesty, STILL one heck of a package. That's 12 discs of tunes that more than showcases an evolution of a genre of music. The only parts missing to this is the break-away sister series titled "Brazilution", which is on the Ministry of Sound label, the Brazilectro DVD which came out last summer, and Brazilectro vol 7, which came out earlier this summer. Oh... and what I came to find out upon far closer examination... a few songs.

I can't possibly review all the music here (about 150 songs!). But I'll give a quick snapshot of what to expect. Brazilectro is more than just "Brazilian Inspired Club Tunes". Some complain that the cuts are not even Brazilian, and at times that is true. But the inspiration is usually pretty clear with them and there is a touch of Brasil in most of the cuts. Add to the general ambiance of traditional Brazilian folk, dance and Samba is a healthy dosage of nu-jazz and electronica. And some of the artists that have participated on Brazilectro are without question the best in the genre... around 150 songs and the highlights are Eli Goulart, Nicola Conte, Nuspirit Helsinki, Koop, Jazzanova, Truby Trio, Carla Alexander, Mondo Grosso, Yoshinori Sunahara, S-Tone Inc., Tom & Joyce, Marcos Valle, Zuco 103, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Ian Pooley, Victor Davies, Los Ladrones, Yukihiro Fukutomi, Chateau Flight, Paula Lima, Da Lata, Zimpala and... many many more. None of that includes what Brazilectro was probably most known for - KILLER original cuts and songs that were yet to be released... stuff that would show up months later on the 'in-style' compilations like "Hotel Costes" or the notable Nu-Bossa rip-off comps. Artists like Janice, SMith Brown & Grey, Justin and several others... You've got a mix of tunes that are clubby and energetic while others are slower and more romantic.

I recommend this to anyone that has never checked out this ground-breaking franchise. It's beautifully packaged and comes with a little booklet that IMO isn't terribly impressive, since it has the same snapshots found in the 6 releases, albeit chopped in a way that doesn't flow. The format of the discs in the box is like a mix of the soft digipack in Brazilectro 4 vs. volumes 5 and 6, but they retain the same color scheme of the originals on their covers; although the box set is obviously based off of Brazilectro volume 3; the one that would trigger the split of the franchise. So again, if you've never checked out Brazilectro, or if you just have one Brazilectro or if you have gotten volume 7 and loved it, then I would HIGHLY recommend picking up the box set, which is far cheaper than the individual releases; some of which are difficult to find now anyways (volume 2 in particular).

BUT.... Does it have faults? 2... First, the vinyl versions of the Brazilectros were the very best, because none of the songs were cut short on LP format. Meanwhile the cd versions had some songs that were chopped up (Arejar, Playback, etc.) quite a bit, and they're no different in the box set. Second, and perhaps most importantly and why I couldn't give this five stars... there are songs missing! Session 1, 5 and 6 are there in entirety but not volumes 2, 3, and 4. Session 2 is missing the Faze Action and Shawn Lee track, Session 3 missing the Mr. Hermano cut, and volume four missing the sleepy French opener "Jazz Mediterranee" by Henri Salvador. Otherwise this is a good box set, yet NOT the COMPLETE box set.
