Eros marks a new chapter in the Italian singer and composer Eros Ramazzotti's ever-growing international career. Offering a wider spectrum of Ramazzotti's musicianship and the combination of well-crafted compositions and outstanding performances, the album is a great work of serious contemporary pop music. The CD covers different rhythmic feels, reaching its climax with "Le Cose Della Vita," a song that perfectly suits Ramazzotti's talent. His vocal style is one of the trademark qualities of the whole collection: a nasal, simply recognizable approach with a lot of intimacy and a great sense of expression that find its roots in the great tradition of the Italian bel canto. Eros offers the right balance between the important melodic Italian tradition and the complexity of today's international pop music. Truly one of the most important releases on today's European pop scene, ready to find its own place in the American market. --Ernesto De Pascale

Amazon.com essential recording

Andrea Bocelli's Sogno ("Dream") is a pop album of entirely original compositions that evoke traditional and modern influences. Bocelli himself describes the CD as secular Italian traditional melodic music with a contemporary twist. The album's 14 tracks include "The Prayer," a Bocelli and Celine Dion duet produced by David Foster; "Come un Fiume Tu," an intriguing collaboration with soundtrack maestro Ennio Morricone; "O Mare e Tu," a duet with Dulce Pontes; and "Sogno" (the first single excerpted from the album), a light-as-a-feather, emotional composition sung by Bocelli with his typical vocal emphasis, which has made him famous around the world since the release of his self-titled debut. --Ernesto De Pascale

4 out of 5 stars Romance.......2007-06-12

If you like your music nice and low and in Italian, you'll love Andrea Bocelli. I do, that's why I have almost everything he's done. This truly is music for people over 40 who want and like romance in their life. (what can I say except I'm getting old)

5 out of 5 stars Andrea's masterpiece.......2007-04-20

This is the most beautiful music you will ever listen to.Andrea has a way of bringing out your innermost soul. The music can make you cry just to listen to it,even if you don't understand the words(which are translated in the booklet).Highlights are Sogno and Immenso for beauty,The Prayer and Nel Cuore Lei for stellar duets, and Canto Della Terra for the rapturous glory of Andrea's voice. If you buy nothing else from Andrea, buy this.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Collection Of Songs!.......2007-03-28

The tone of so many of this album's songs is almost reverent. Truly, this group of songs is one of Mr. Bocelli's best works. I recommend it for your own collection, as well as for gift-giving.

Born in Rome into a working-class family, hunky Italian pop idol Eros Ramazzotti first made his mark following a move to Milano in the mid-eighties. His career really took off in 1984, after he won the category of "New Voice" at the influential San Remo Festival for his song Terra Promessa. As a singer-songwriter, he specializes in sweeping, passionate ballads and large-scale power-rock numbers and has racked up an impressive array of duets with other international favorites like Celine Dion, Cher, Portugese neo-fado sensation Dulce Pontes, Tina Turner and crossover mega-star Andrea Bocelli. A canny self-marketer with huge European following, especially in Germany, Ramazzotti records each of his albums in both his native tongue and in Spanish, a technique that has made him enormously popular in Central and South America. The voice, a polished yet endearingly up-front tenor, wrenches every drop of emotion from his lyrics, which tend toward the florid side. But if the man undeniably knows the meaning of a good hook, his songs are nonetheless anchored by an essential vulnerability that makes his work extremely appealing. --Christina Roden

5 out of 5 stars Another good one from Eros!.......2007-06-15

I live in New Zealand and no music stores stock Eros' music. I first heard him in Russia and have now been able to get all his albums thru amazon.com. I do not understand a word he says but the music, expression, beat and rhythm enhance my understanding. His sound is great!

5 out of 5 stars un classico.......2007-03-18

4 out of 5 stars Eros won me over.......2006-11-22

My first album of Eros Ramazzotti and what a way to an introduction. I am not familiar of his previous albums, but this album is a great album. This to me is the epitome of good pop writing. It has hooks and melody all over the album. The production is a 5 star. World class musicians play on this album and it shows it excellence. I think that Eros' voice is very unique. It took me a while to get used to it, but in the end he won me over. This album has an Elton John feel writing wise in the slow songs even in the acoustic guitar dominated tunes. Maybe that is just me, but it's an album with full of emotions. Even songs that I wasn't crazy on "Uno Nuovo Eta." It had this modern R&B element going on, but the chorus has a beautiful melody that made me forget the verses. Atleast the R&B approach was more Brian McKnight versus a producer like Timbeland where the beats are scattered in incomprehensive patterns. "I Belong To You" duet took me a while to like. I thought the simplitic pop lyrics like "I love you" and feel of the song was a typical duet, but it also won me over in the end. The reason it won me over was because the progression of chords of this song(very Elton Jon like)was a bit different than those usual pop duets, so it made the whole melody unpredictable in a good way. Then the two different languages made it unique, but it could also very easily be considered cheesy as well. As for the other songs there is not much to say. They are all excellent. I give this album 4 and a half star out of 5. It is one of my favorite albums I have bought this year. It won me over.

5 out of 5 stars EROS Ramazzotti - Calma Apparente.......2006-07-28

This is one of the best CDs I have purchased in a long time.
You don't have to speak Italian to have the music touch you.

5 out of 5 stars One of his best Albums.......2006-05-07

By looking at this CD means that most probably you are aware of Italian music or have at least heard a song or two from Eros Ramazzotti. As this CD goes, in my humble opinion it is definitely one of his best, maybe a close second to his other album `EROS'. As for song eleven, `I Belong to you (Il Ritmo della Passione)' with Anastacia, is one of the best ballads I have ever heared. Most of the songs are simply beautiful and proofs why Eros is so well known in the international music scene.

To sum up, this album is highly recommended!!!

I am a New Zealand Maori woman who visited Russia in May 2005. In the middle of the Siberian Plains, Irkutsk, I heard Eros for the first time ever. I do not understand the Italian language, or Spanish or Russian for that matter but the rhythm, beat and feeling was awesome. By the end of October 2005 I should have all his cd's-I had to shop through amazon.com because there are none of his cd's in NZ. Actually, there are a couple but not many.
He has been the best musical experience I've had in a long time and the duet he does with Tina Turner on her double cd is perfect-what an amazing combination.
cheers.

Every good pop collection has that one moment, that shimmering, seamless mix of voice, rhythm and melody, that reflects--and often transcends--the colors and styles of the entire package. On 9, the first studio album in three years from Italian singer Eros Ramazzotti, it's "No Te Prometo Nada" ("I Don't Promise You Anything"), a bittersweet ballad that finds the singer exposing his flawed heart to his lover. This is a hushed, affecting moment. Much of the rest of 9 finds Ramazzotti in pleasantly familiar territory, his nasal delivery distinguishing pop ditties such as "Un Segundo De Paz" and "Piedra Pequena." Some of the silky production sheen of past efforts has been traded in for more acoustic instrumentation; coupled with Ramazzotti's heartfelt interpretations, the result is a more intimate feel. Make no mistake, though: Ramazzotti is a pop singer by definition. And when it's done this expertly, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. --Joey Guerra

4 out of 5 stars I don't know how he does it..........2006-08-02

Never has a song managed to bring me to tears in such a vulnerable way, but 'Canzone Per Lei' did it, for some inexplicable reason. I haven't been married, so haven't suffered the pain of divorce and separation from a child (which is what the song is about, right?), but the song just breaks my heart every time I listen to it. I literally bawl like a toddler with a scraped knee! Must be the achingly beautiful way he sings, because I just don't know how else to explain it. Bravissimo, Eros!

5 out of 5 stars Who likes Eros Ramazotti.......2006-07-14

5 out of 5 stars Enamored with Eros. . ........2006-07-05

For many years, my only exposure to Eros was at family weddings where the DJ would play a wonderful tune, "Ti Sposero Perche," (which as a teenager, I thought was one of the most romantic songs of all time.) Then my dad bought 9 for me in Italy last year and I become enamored of Eros's sultry voice and spine-tingling lyrics. I haven't been able to remove the CD from my CD changer ever since! You don't have to know Italian to love the album, but it does help to be able to understand the lyrics. He sings so honestly and beautifully about relationships! Definitely on my Top 10 list!

5 out of 5 stars I'm in love.............2006-01-22

My husband and I saw an Eros music video in Munich a few weeks ago, I loved the song even though I couldn't understand sentence one. What I admired most in the video was that the audience was made up of children to seniors and everyone knew the words and was enthralled w/the performance. 9 is the first of his CDs that's arrived and I cannot stop listening to it even though the song we saw/heard isn't even on it. If I never hear music from other artists again I won't feel any loss.....I am definitely in love.....ready to pack it all up and move to Italy w/all my dogs!!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, upbeat music for everyone.......2006-01-03

This is the best Eros CD of all time. He has some great songs on other albums, but this album is tops! Eros' music is aging like a fine wine. He's maturing as an artist. This album is upbeat and fun to play when you're on the road.

5 out of 5 stars ANOTHER Great CD.......2004-04-05

Eros just has the best quality pop songs ever. He always comes out on top album after album, definitely beautifully composed and his singing talent, spectacular always Eros style. So much gift and emotion sang into them, with great lyrics, for me, best italian male singer.
What a gift.....a must...and I also recommend for sure EROS 1997 and all the other that have come along in his long successful career that I cannot believe how fast time passes. Eros has been singing for over a decade...and still puts out his best out there all the time. It is Awesome!

5 out of 5 stars Best Non-English album ever!.......2003-02-09

If you are going to listen to something that isn't sung in English, then listen to this.
It was the first of his albums I ever heard, as he was never released in New Zealand. But I was fortunate to be in Italy in 1996 when this was released. I eventually found out his name and bought this CD, and later, then rest of them, I don't regret it for a minute!
Every track is well created, every song is sung impeccibly.
He isn't the biggest selling non-english non-opera act of all time for nothing! He is the only act who doesn't sing in English to continually make the top 30 best selling albums worldwide.
Best tracks are: L'Uragano Meri, Piu Bella Cosa, Stella Gemella.

5 out of 5 stars An English only speaking American says "Wonderful!!".......2002-06-05

I purchased this CD a couple of years ago at a local store in my area. I love this CD so much that I am buying this CD again.
If you like foreign culture and have any interest in foreign language this is a must have.
I have been studing music since I was little. I am proficient in playing the Cello. I have even composed music myself.
This CD is a favorite of mine. I played it over and over again in an attempt to sing along. I know some of the lyrics by heart.
I find this CD beautiful, wonderful, highly listenable, and I still have not grow bored of it.
Even though I have no idea about what the lyrics are saying I still like to try to sing along. It is great way to learn the sounds in Italian.

Sincerely,

John Kelly

5 out of 5 stars Eros' best studio CD.......2001-04-22

I have been a Ramazzotti fan for over 12 years and own all his albums. Dove C'e Musica is my all time favorite. It's his most mature and musically complex release and stands above his earlier work (which is great in its own right) and his latest effort Stile Libero (which is a solid 4 stars). The studio version of Io Amero is sensational but it's worth checking out the acoustic version in the live album (which is my second favorite album). L'Aurora and Quasi Amore are two of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Lei Pero has a great bass line. Stella Gemella is intriguing. Basically this is a CD you listen beginning to end, it's that good. I must admit a heavy bias towards his Italian versions, for some reason the Spanish ones just don't do it for me. In any event, this is a very well produced album and stands out as his best.

5 out of 5 stars My Passion.......2000-08-22

I started listening to Eros about 2 years ago, only cause I have very little italian in me from my GreatGrandfather, and since I was a little girl I have always wanted to visit Italy, I haven't yet but may do so before long. Eros is my passion, his music has taught me so much, I am learning italian on my own and am really good at it. What a loss to those who have never heard of this wonderful man! I would love to meet him someday and personally thank him for the beautiful joy his music has given me. My family loves him too. Gratis Eros... Margie/Colorado

5 out of 5 stars His best album.......2004-02-29

In my opinion, Eros is the best music artist ever, and I find "Tutte Storie" his best album, with which only his most recent album "9" can compete.
The best songs are "Un grosso No", which is also one of the best songs ever, "Favola" and "A Mezza Via".
I saw Eros live about 6 times now, and one of the best moments of each and every - superb - concert, is when he sings "Favola".
A Masterpiece !

5 out of 5 stars Eros the Magnificent.......2001-11-14

I have several of Eros' cd's and have become addicted to his music. When I heard Tutte Storie I fell in love with his song "Un Grosso No". The arrangement is incredibe, boy- I wish I knew how to speak Italian. The music is so good you don't have to speak the language to enjoy the music arrangements. This man is going to break me if he keeps making more cd's.

5 out of 5 stars QEU BELLA !.......2001-09-28

Originally from Detroit. It was the summer of 1994. I was in Florence, Italy completing my architectural degree. And while in a friends apartment, switching television channels, I happened accross a music video of Eros Ramazzotti's "Favola" from the Tutte Storie CD. And that was all it took. That song still has me hypnotized to this day. I prayed that they would show the title and artist of the video at the end (like they do on most video programs). When they did, I just scribbled as fast as I could and the next chance I got I picked up a copy from a local music store. It cost me 34,000 lire (about $26 at that time), but it was well worth it.

I spoke very little Italian and understood even less. But, believe me, you don't need to be able to speak the language to experience the emotion captured in this man's vocal compositions.

Let me also recommend "Lo Amero" from his Dove c'e Musica CD. The upbeat songs are great too, but I'm a hopeless romantic and will always gravitate to a great ballad. I haven't heard all of his 8+ CD's, but his style is so rich that no matter which one you pick up you'll be pleased and want to buy the rest. {Kind of like Earth, Wind & Fire - if you're into them}

4 out of 5 stars Three songs make this CD.......2001-07-12

Three songs and the instrumental backup, especially bass guitar and drums, make this CD. They are: A Mezza Via, Un'Altra Te, and Silver e Missie. Listen carefully to the guitar and drums in these songs and also in the very first track. You'll enjoy them as much as Eros' performance. I would only have given it a 3.5-rating if it weren't for these selections.

5 out of 5 stars Three a crowd?.......2001-04-13

My local and rather cosy Italian restaurant welcomed us and settled us down at our table with the menu to decide which culinary delights took our fancy. It was no good the music had got my attention more than the aromas and the sights of freshly cooked pizzas & pasta dishes hurrying past us. This was my first introduction to Eros & the album: Tutte Storie. This trip has now cost me four albums! and the collection grows. This is his best album & is simply a 'must'buy CD. In public one can't help but hear Eros more and more. The best track? - well If I had to hang my hat on one (and I don't wear one) it must be A Mezza Via, many others come close though. Beware it won't be your only Eros purchase!

The emotional range is surprisingly wide: from enjoyable themes until contemplative gazes to nocturnal memories.

5 out of 5 stars Fuoco nel Fuoco.......2007-04-05

I wish I had bought this CD earlier when I was refining my collection. I love all of these songs especially fuoco nel fuoco. Piu che Puoi with cher is also a very profound song. I wish I could sail away with him on that boat. Not a dissapointment if you decide to buy it. Eros, ti voglio bene assai.

4 out of 5 stars Piu' che puoi.......2005-07-25

I just love this cd. I saw two reviews that really pissed me off, I can say that only an ignorant can believe that just because somebody is popular, he or she is a bad composer. Anybody who believes that eros is a bad composer just doesn't know anything about composition or music in general. I really recomend this cd, and the live in rome dvd, too

5 out of 5 stars The Best Pop/Rocker Ever.......2005-06-22

I first heard Eros about five years ago, in a book store while looking for another singer. It was the best "stumble" across I have yet done!
Eros has a voice that is smooth and strong, yes, slightly nasal but that is Eros, he just sounds that way. His lyrics are great and have helped me to learn the beautiful Italian language. But even if you don't know Italian he puts great feeling into singing.
This is probably my favorite album, I can put it in and never take it out of my stereo, except maybe to take it with me in the car. But I really love all of Eros' albums, and would recommend them.
For a man who has been singing since the early 1980es, he still has not yet hit a "false note", and I am looking forward to his new album coming out in the fall.

1 out of 5 stars C'mon ! Let's face reality !!.......2004-06-01

This is a very commercial album : heavy production,million dollars budget,over-the top-marketing...
And who has ever said that Ramazzotti is the most important voice in Italy! This is a true heresy ! Pure nonsense !
He is popular, like Britney is popular in US.
Would you say that Britney is better than Anita Baker or Regina Belle ?
Forget about him and rather buy albums by Rossana Casale! She is really sublime !

5 out of 5 stars Highly enjoyable for all........2006-12-12

I enthusiastically recommend this recording to everyone, regardless of your musicological expertise. The novelty and variety of the music should be enough to draw in all but the most desensitized of the mainstream audience, and after repeated listenings a depth of enthusiastic musicianship is exposed. The mood ranges from the excruciatingly delicate lyre, falsetto, and chimes to the forcefully rhythmic hand-drums, shakers and (my personal favorite) the wooden double auloi that pack all the punch of a distortion guitar.

If, on the other hand, you are a bit of a scholar, this will please all but the most slavish positivist. This is not interpretation N of the Seikilos epitaph, and in fact I don't believe the notational fragments are at all represented on this recording. [It really shouldn't be attributed to "Ancient Greek Anonymous."] There are, however, rigorously-researched reconstructions of period instruments and relatively virtuosic performances. The melodies have been composed with a thorough appreciation for the greek vocal aesthetic, taking into account the tonality, rhythm and accent of the language and the fundamentally syllabic nature of ancient greek art song. Also well-represented is the "epicentric" melodic paradigm inherited from Sumeria, gravitating toward the central string, "mese".

My only disappointment is the lack of harmonic variety. The entire CD is performed in the diatonic genus (without even variations of chroma, unfortunately). In their defense, I admit that to modern ears the chromatic genus can sound like very bad jazz, and the enharmonic genus is (just as Plato said) prohibitively difficult for most singers. I sincerely hope this ensemble will explore them in future recordings. Nonetheless, this is most certainly not equal-tempered music, with an unmistakable, exciting "microtonal" spice.

I have owned this recording for a year, and it is one of my absolute favorites.

5 out of 5 stars Reconstructing the beauty of a Symposium.......2006-04-27

The first remark concerns the instruments of this music, instruments that have been reconstituted on the model of the ancient ones. We will consider them as germanely faithful and they create sounds, a sound environment or ambience that is particularly original. The second remark is that this music is based on the pythagorian five-note scale (note Conrad Steinmann does not mention this pythagorian origin and the physical process used to determine the first five degrees based on vibrations, from C to G, but this process fails for A and B : these last two notes will be regulated and introduced in the scale only in the Renaissance) that corresponds to the first five degrees of our modern major scale. Then a second group of these five degrees and intervals are added to the first five in a second identical group constituting a ten-note scale that will be the basis of all western music up to the Renaissance, and thus the basis of all Christian sacred music of the Middle Ages, a music known as gregorian. So, in the surprising sound ambience we also recognize some elements we have already heard and enjoyed in our heritage. The next choice is to reconstitute the music of a symposium, a banquet with musical entertainment for free Athenian citizens, though there were no un-free citizens : it corresponds then to the extremely small minority of the people in Athens and ancient Greece who had civil rights because they were free. This music is based on texts from the poets of the time singing love and wine, the pleasures of love and wine and then the disruptive alienating impact of love. Finally the music itself is reconstituted from the tidbits that have survived, the accents, stresses and intonations of the language itself, and what we can know of the status of music in this free social elite. The result is very surprising. We will first mention the voices : only a (female) soprano and a/n (male) alto. This is a little bit too restrictive and it reduces the male voice to a very particular case. The music brings up some Mediterranean styles that will develop later on in Europe with medieval music and in the Arab world. We can hear some oriental passages, for instance in track # 9, ? Gaia ?. I will mention track # 18 on the sun eclipse of April 8, 648 B.C. that has a sombre depth created by the contrast between the soprano and the alto, and track # 20, ? Hypne Anax ?, in which the alto develops in his solo a vocal texture that is absolutely unexpected.

5 out of 5 stars CD-Hypothesis.......2006-02-12

Lyrics and the instruments on this record are authentic. Music is composed by Conrad Steinmann. So it is contemporary "newly imagined" music in Ancient Greek style.
His reconstruction based on 2 main sources: 1. careful re-creation of the instruments, which helps to understand playing techinc; 2. Ancient Greek language, because "Ancient Greek is subject to rhythmical rules that regulate the lengh of the syllables...[These rules were] reconciled with tonal order of the respective instrument".
The result of this re-construction could be described in one word - beautiful!
Arianna Savall (soprano) so beautifully sings well-known lyrics by Sappho ("He Seems to Me Like Unto Gods That Man Who Sits Opposite You", "Eros Shook My Heart") and Anacreon, Alcaios so you could buy this CD only to understand how beautiful and melodic was Ancient Greek language.
As example, many sources stated that verses by Sappho were sung and these songs seemed to Ancient Greeks very melodic, delicate and beautiful. And when you are reading modern translation or even original - you have to have great imagination to understand this musical aspect of the poetry.
Here you have original lyrics, English translation and the singing, so this CD could be a kind of the textbook for the student-historian of the Antiquty.
This CD-hypothesis could be also viewed not only as academic experiment but also as best CD of New Age World music in Ancient Greek style.
Well, and if you are decided to buy this CD, why not to listen to authenitic Ancient Greek music?
I highly recommend you CDs by ENSEMBLE DE ORGANOGRAPHIA "Music of Ancient Greeks" and "Music of the Ancient Sumerians, Egyptians and Greeks" (North Pacific Music)!!!!
