Auracle

Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Auracle reveals a magical message for these times and speaks to the hearts of humanity in an age where legends inspire and muses seek to enlighten minds while passing a torch of spiritual light to fellow travelers across the globe.

In a land of lore where the imagination stretches beyond this earthly domain into heavenly paradises, Lesiem awaken sleeping myths, slumbering fables while embracing the wonders of the world. Lesiem create a universal musical style that majestically transforms the listener as beautiful melodies, Gregorian chants and mystical grooves create a unique style called mystic-pop.

Listen to Auracle...hear the language of the divine and let wisdom pass this way once again.

4 out of 5 stars An interesting, uplifting departure from Lesiem's first two albums.......2006-10-02

"Auracle" seems to be the U.S.-packaged version of Lesiem's third CD, released in Germany with different cover art as "Times." The songs are the same, although they are presented in a different order, and a bonus DTS repetition of the song "Fides" is included on "Times." Overall, I have to say that I prefer the track order of "Times," which opens with a much more intriguing piece ("Prudentia") than does "Auracle." Neither version of the disc, however, was what I'd expected from Alex Wende, Henning Westland, Sven Meisel and company as a follow up to "Mystic Spirit Voices" and "`Illumination." Gone is much of the dark, brooding, almost Wagnerian atmosphere, replaced instead by many pieces in a major key that feature simplistic pop vocals. The glorious, deep-voiced choir drops in and out between the solo verses and voiceovers, but it's not as much the focus as in previous albums. I miss that. Granted, the insistent, Celtic-style drumwork that crops up in several pieces is a welcome addition to Lesiem's sound. And the happy, new melodies are nice enough, sticking pleasantly in one's memory after a few listens. But that's not what made Lesiem stand out so strikingly from all the other groove-chant groups out there. "Auracle" (and/or "Times") is a worthy work in its own right, with high production values, impeccable musicianship and lots of heart. But compared to the group's preceding albums, it's hard not to view it as a bit watered down. For other uplifting Latin chants with modern underpinnings, try "Vision: The Music of Hildegard von Bingen" by Richard Souther, and "Libera," the luminous, self-titled debut album of Robert Prizeman and his talented boy choir.

3 out of 5 stars Cheap Trick!.......2006-07-09

I heard this playing in the gift store of the Utah Shapespeare Festival and bought it becase of the "Sarah Brightman meets Enigma" label stuck on the front! Buyer Beware...none of either artist inside. But, I like Carmina Burana so will prob liaten to this now and then...hope it grows on me.

5 out of 5 stars Latin is not dead!.......2006-05-11

As a third year Latin student, i was very happy when my parents introduced me to Lesiem. The music is upbeat and even though not all the words are comprehendable, it leaves me with the emotions of happiness and enlightenment. My only negative comment is that no lyrics are included.

1 out of 5 stars Couldn't be worse if it tried........2006-03-07

Terrible. This is such a bad record. I was recommended this because it was like Enigma and had band members from Enigma. Upon listening to its terrible Georgian chants and toe curling singing, none of this record reminded me of Enigma. Every song sounds the same and has no imagination.

My advise: avoid with your life.

5 out of 5 stars Radically different but very enchating new sound. .......2006-02-25

I was very intrigued at the radical change in music style that LEsiem went through between "Illumination" and this newest album of their's "Auracle". Much brighter, more pop-like, the Enigma-like atmosphere of their last album is replaced by a more natural, earthier and generally much brighter sound and a lot of the electronic drum machines are replaced by what sound like more actual drums as well as a more classical sound.

The THIRD through fifth tracks "Caritas", "Fides" and "Justitia" begin similar manner, starting with classical strings ranging from pizzicato to Cello intros before becoming either pop-rock sounding tracks to slow relaxing songs. Overall, this album reminds me a lot of the music of Sarah Brightman.

My favorite song is likely "Times" which begins with a beautiful intro and becomes a very energetic pop-like song with a beautiful echoing vocal. The song also goes through some very unique melodic changes.

Product Description

Auracle, the debut album from Maneki Neko, is crafted for relaxation, meditation, and healing arts. The five compositions on Auracle combine traditional instruments and melodic structures from cultures with long-standing meditative traditions to build soundscapes that aid the 21st century meditator on a relaxing inner journey. Maneki Neko takes the deep chill ambient genre, layers it with gently rolling hints of melody, and grounds it in deep, satisfying, resonant beds. The result is music with depth and purpose. Music that invites the mind and body to slow down and relax in its ambient textures.

4 out of 5 stars Well done........2007-05-07

A very deep and multi-layered work that is perfect for relaxing, meditation or just to help you get to sleep at night.

5 out of 5 stars Too good to be true!.......2006-07-05

Excellent it will very hard to top it over! This work reminds me, with sadness, Santa Esmeralda in the 80's! An excellent work that the performers could never grow above it or top it over. I hope not I want more of these!

5 out of 5 stars Superb Ambient Music.......2005-10-12

I really enjoy good ambient music and it was a pleasure to discover ambient sound designer, Al Mikula of Maneki Neko ("beckoning cat" in the Japanese language) and his latest CD, "Auracle".

Each of the five tracks on the CD are recorded and mixed to perfection with layer after layer of subtle shakuhachi flute melodies, narcotic body-numbing vibrations and layers of electronic space sounds that allow the mind to drift into other realms.

This CD is in the style of exceptional electrocustic ambient musicians such as Steve Roach, Patrick O' Hearn, Vir Unis, Stephen Bacchus and Koorunba. I especially enjoyed "Drifting Between Stars" and "Cat's Sleeping on Clouds", but the entire CD is superb.
