A featured soloist with the Irish choral group Anuna, Meav garnered raves for her vocal contribution to the London and New York productions of
Riverdance. A soprano with the surprising quality of a light and tightly focused pitch, the young vocalist steps out with her self-titled debut of Celtic traditional and classical pieces. Alternately accompanied by an Irish band or swelling orchestra, Meav's tones ring with bell-like clarity, and she seems to effortlessly unspool sound, moving from natural range to head voice with no shrill or heavy accents. Particularly lovely are renditions of the opening theme from the film
Rob Roy, the Celtic traditional "She Moved Through the Fair," and "One I Love," a largely a cappella number that'll give you goose bumps.

The Marvel of Meav!.......2007-06-27
I was suprised at how much I really liked this album, as I have thought of Meav as a bit of stiff-ly professional artist, but I was amazed by the way she uses her beautiful voice, and was pretty happy with the song sellections. Favorites are The Last Rose of Summer, I Dreamt I Dwelt in Marbled Halls, Danny Boy, Greensleeves, and Dante's Prayer. Dante's Prayer is my favorite track. It is just so-o beautiful. And her coverage of Danny Boy is the best I've ever heard. The only track I didn't care much for was Celtic Prayer -- it didn't showcase Meav's voice very well, and was rather sparse. Overall very stunning! Waste no time adding to your collection.

Everything was fine with the cd's and I will get more things when I need them. This review is for all my cd's that you send I am not writing a review for everyone.

GREAT CELTIC MUSIC.......2007-08-05
Anuna
If the Celtic Woman group added men you'd get ANUNA. Not quite as good ,but pretty good. I'd give Celtic woman a 99 out of a 100 possible score and ANUNA a 95. Still well worth the money.
Highly recommended for fans of Celtic music.

Amazing as always.......2007-07-29
I have been a huge fan of the Irish vocal group Anuna for over a decade. They have hit it big now with their niche audience when their PBS special begins to air around the nation. I believe they are such an amazing ensemble, that this acknowledgment of their work is long overdue! I wasn't sure if I should purchase their recording that is at Borders, as I already own all of their recordings. They are singing all of their great songs (although they have plenty, plenty more!) on this recording, and I didn't know if it was just a compilation their past albums. If you are unfamiliar with Anuna, their music really displays a whole spectrum of sound... from the ethereal to toe tapping rhythms, and it's all filled with soaring melody and rich and lush harmony-- some of which is modern, other parts which are a modern revival and reinterpretation of medieval sound.
So back to this album-- I did buy it yesterday, and I am so overjoyed as I'm listening to it, as this is a new recording of their PBS program material recorded at the same time as their TV special was, at a church in Cleveland, Ohio. The album was recorded separately, as there is no applause after the tracks. All of the pieces are approached with the same grandeur as their originals and there is no need to refresh the material, because it is truly timeless. They have added a couple of standards to appease the masses on this recording-- Greensleeves, as well as Scarborough Fair. John McGlynn (brother to Michael-- the group's director and composer extraordinaire) also includes one of his own beautiful songs, "If All She Has is You."
If they are coming to your town, go and hear them. They open their mouths and sound just as heavenly as they are on their recordings. It is stunning and breathtaking.

Simply enchanting.......2007-07-18
I am a big fan of Celtic Woman. Meav is a favorite of mine. Asides from Lisa Kelly, I think Meav has one of the stronger voices in the group. A couple of days ago, I came across Meav's latest solo album and I decided to check it out. A couple of the songs on this album can be heard on Celtic Woman's first dvd and/or cd. The songs are beautiful. Meav's vocals are never overwhelming like some pop divas who are guilty of vocal acrobatics (i.e Celine Dion and Whitney Houston). Meav does two Loreena McKennitt songs "She Moved Through the Fair" and "Dante's Prayer". She does a fairly good job in executing the songs but they don't hold a candle to the original versions, especially "Dante's Prayer". There was not one song on the cd that I did not like. I enjoyed all twelve tracks. This cd is definitely worth listening to for Celtic Woman fans.
Lovely Voice.......2007-05-11
Meav has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. I love a singer who can truly sing, and she shines! Meav sings Marble Halls perfectly, and Celtic Prayer is very pretty. All the songs on this cd are great! She is by far the best singer in Celtic Woman. Her other cds are worth buying as well. Meav will not dissapoint!
Méav's Magical Voice.......2007-01-05
This is essentially a re-release of Méav's original debut album. There are only a few slight differences, the order in which the songs appear and the omission of the song The Death of Queen Jane, replaced with the song Dantes Prayer. The Death of Queen Jane was the only song I frequently skipped through on the debut CD, Dantes Prayer is a welcomed addition.
Ailein Duinn (the Theme from Rob Roy) is sung in traditional Gaelic and is a hauntingly sad melody about a woman who loses her man at sea.
I Wish My Love Was A Red, Red Rose is a beautiful love song sung in English, but it's an Irish ballad.
Si Do Mhaimeo is a fast and fun song sung in Gaelic. It's about a young man trying to woo a wealthy widow.
All the songs on this CD are great. Some are in Gaelic and some in English. I love this CD and listen to it on a weekly, if not daily basis. I think she has a voice so clear and beautiful. I will never tire of it.
This is a wonderful CD for anyone who appreciates good, traditional music and an excellent singing voice. Enjoy!
A nice record...but she has done better.......2006-06-22
This is a nice record, and showcases Meav just after she left Anuna. It is great to see that there is a new release "Meav Ni Mhaolchatha with Anuna - Celtic Dreams" available now on amazon.com, as I was worried that her wonderful contribution to Anuna's work would be forgotten under the hype of Celtic Woman. This album "Meav" is attractive, but her work with Anuna and the lovely and unusualy "Silver sea" are superior albums. this girl is wonderful!
Captivating!.......2006-06-16
Méav's songs in this Cd are captivating. Truly an auditory delight worth experiencing. Méav has a pure angelic voice you can never get tired of.

In 1994, Irish soprano Mèav Nì Mhaolchatha (pronounced Mäev Nee Wail-cot-ha) became a featured soloist with Anùna, Michael McGlynn's Dublin-based choral ensemble. Her star rose after the group toured with the Riverdance troupe and quickly achieved international renown. Then, in 2005, an extravaganza called Celtic Woman debuted, and its five female singers---Méav plus Chloë, Lisa, Órla, and Máiréad---followed its massive success with a torrent of solo albums: Méav's eponymous release (2002) and Silver Sea (2004) are only two examples thereof. These offered still more Enya-esque, mostly ethereal ballads from Irish and other sources: all very effective in their way but pure mass-market show-biz and best avoided by die-hard traditional music fans. But the material on the current reissue dates back to the Riverdance era and is another matter entirely. It showcases thirteen tracks recorded by Anùna during the original Riverdance sessions, the vast majority with Méav singing lead. The stately and elegiac program harbors recollections of composers Edward MacDowell and more recently, Patrick Cassidy, or even Ralph Vaughn-Williams, who so often incorporated British folk and early music sources into his works. --Christina Roden

Spiritual Rapture.......2007-07-08
There are two songs that particularly send one into states of rapture when listening to them during meditation they are: Nobilis Humilis and Beati Quorum Via. The entire album is quite a spiritual journey full of mystical melodies and angelic voices.
Celtic Dreams indeed!.......2007-03-22
The songs are different but they are growing on me. Meav is awesome as usual. Her voice is as high and clear as ever. I'm so glad this was released. Makes my collection of all things Meav easier to obtain. Great listening!

OUTSTANDING, TOTALY MESMERIZING, BEAUTIFUL VOICE. WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT ABOUT A WOMAN WITH AN ANGELISTIC VOICE? A MUST HAVE FOR YOUR COLLECTION
Sweet Celtic Dreams........2006-11-02
Celtic Dreams is another fine preformance by Meav in her early years. I highly recommend this to everyone, especially fans of Meav and Anuna.

OK CD, nice voice.......2006-08-05
I like Meav's voice, and this CD is OK, if you like this kind of stuff. Think slow and somewhat depressing. I think Irish music has moved on so much since Bill Whehlan of Riverdance brought it into the modern times, and came up with this vocal sound, I guess to hark back to earlier times, which worked well because Riverdance has so much contrast in it and the choir songs only appear as relief to the other music. This is all a bit samey and dull. I would say saved by this lady's fine voice though.

Her voice is perfection!.......2006-10-18
This is the second CD I purchased by Meav, the first being her Silver Sea. Her voice is just so clear and perfect. Every song on this CD is excellent. Ailein Duinn, is my favorite. An old Gaelic song, that is heartbreakingly beautiful. The music is traditional Irish, Gaelic or English. Celtic Prayer is a new song with a traditional feel, same with One I Love. None of these songs are boring. All of them have wonderful melodies. Si Do Mhaimeo i is upbeat and very powerful. Meav is a very talented artist. The arrangements on these songs and the song selection will delight anyone with an appreciation for good, traditional music.
SWEET LARK.......................2006-10-03
I first heard Maev sing in the Celtic Woman Show and was mesmerized by her voice. After wearing my Celtic Woman CD out I picked up this littel Gem and WOW, I enjoy her now more than ever. Now I'm going to have to pick up her other CD'S. My only problem is which one should I buy next. I enjoy all the girls on the Celtic CD,but Meav I think is one of the best.
Wonderful CD.......2006-05-29
This is now one of my favorite CD's. This one puts Celtic Woman to shame!!! She has such a lovely voice, and is wonderful to listen to. I am now going to buy her other two CD's.
excellent.......2006-03-18
My daughter loves Celtic Woman, so we got her Meav for her birthday. It is excellent, and if you love oboe and English horn, there is a lot of that in the orchestrations!
Beautiful, soulful, ethereal..........2006-03-05
What a lovely CD! Easy on the ears, stirring and soothing by turns. Elegant and tuneful soprano lines, well-sung, with gorgeous instrumentals - what's in it to be bad?

Meav is wonderful!.......2006-10-18
This album was recommended to me by Amazon after I had made similar purchases. I bought it based on that recommendation over a year and a half ago. It remains my favorite CD. After falling in love with this CD I went ahead and purchased all her others. This CD is so good. You get to hear songs in traditional Irish, Gaelic and English. She uses her musical talents on the arrangements of the poems, Full Fathom Five and Silent O Moyle. Plus you get a little Irish Folklore in You Brought Me Up, a song about the selkies, and The Wicked Sister, a tale about 2 sisters in love with the same man. She gives translations to songs sung in a different language. Plus a little info on each song. Meav has the voice of an angel. This CD has something for everyone who loves great music.
Outstanding.......2006-05-19
This is the third of Meav's CDs that I have purchased and she just get better and better. She has a clear golden voice and sings with an intensity and honesty that is rare in the music business today. I can honestly say that I enjoy every song especially "Full Fathom Five". This was her first solo CD I believe. She shows the increadable talent that has made CW such a success. I hope to see many more of Meav's CDs on Amazon.
Spectacular.......2006-05-08
You cannot really listen to M?av for more than a minute without hearing how incredible she is. Her voice is clear and sweet and wonderful. She is so talented, and a pleasure to listen to in Gaelic, English, and French--at least! She produced this cd herself, and it has a variety of songs. (My favorite is "Newry Boat Song.") M?av is a rising star... buy this cd now!
