The second in the Hip-O imprint's series of '80s box sets, this three-CD compilation collects 42 hits from the decade of decadence. For those who want to shake their booty, they can get their freak on to Rick James, "Jump" for the Pointer Sisters, and do a little "Safety Dance" to Men Without Hats. Love new wave? Indulge in Flock of Seagulls, Duran Duran, Devo, and Adam Ant. And for those who want to rock--although not too hard--there's Billy Idol, the Pretenders, Rick Springfield, and Scandal. Yes, many of these cuts are predictable, but there are some surprise entries, like Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me," Greg Kihn's "Jeopardy," Peter Schilling's "Major Tom," and Jan Hammer's "Miami Vice Theme"(!). Given this set's diverse artist roster, it's doubtful that you'll love every song; and, truthfully, the third disc is weaker than the others. But as a throwback for the music-video generation, Hit Me with Your '80s Box! makes a hip retro compilation that may finally get pop-culture snobs to admit that they liked many of these songs a lot more than they were willing to let on back in the day. --Bryan Reesman

Good stuff, especially for those of us nostalgic for 80's music. It's a nice three CD collection of some of the best mainstream stuff from the 80's, including some music I had trouble finding elsewhere.

I mix 80s dance music and the number of times when mixing that I find myself reaching for either this compilation or its companion, "I Want My 80s Box," is extraordinary. These are two outstanding collections. They are pricey, but worth every penny. For many people, owning these two will be all the 80s music you'll ever need.

Fidelity is outstanding, the tracks are well organized more or less chronologically, and the sequences in which tracks are placed is excellent. The "box" itself in which the 3 CDs come is sturdy, it is easily folded out in part or in whole to access any of the CDs quickly and easily (unlike many multi-CD offerings). Liner notes are extensive and interesting.

This offering is a class act all the way. Highly, highly recommended. 7 stars.

Great Collection, But ..........2004-07-19

This is a great collection of awesome 80's music, but I feel that each disc should have had about three more songs on them. Also, I think the title refers to Pat Benatar's HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT. Strangely enough, the song is nowhere to be found on this set???

I don't understand..........2004-04-10

...Why does this box set not contain the very song its title is a reference to? If it were to be truly complete, it would contain: HIT ME WITH YOUR RHYTHM STICK, by Ian Dury & The Blockheads.

Hit me with your 80's box is great box set for anyone who likes eighties music. While it not as good as "Like, Omigod:The 80's pop culture box" It still will take the listener back to a great time in the music industry.

Remastered Sweet.......2002-01-27

You are one of the hottest musical acts of the mid 1970's. What do you do after that accomplishment? You rerecord the same songs 10 to 20 years later. Brian Connolly lead singer of the Sweet, God rest his soul, apparently did exactly that with Blockbuster Alternative Takes Collectors Gold, the first CD of this three piece set. If you are buying this product to relive your youth please buy the original releases. I personally love this CD because it is a more mature remastering of what was done before. While I miss the beginning of the original Ballroom Blitz (So are you ready Steve... Un Huh...Andy?..Yeah..Mick?..Okay.....All right fellas let's go) on this live performance, one of the final four live tracks, it is readily apparent the boys are no longer together on this recording. But you get solid production on a gold CD. Now on two disc 2, Sweet Greatest Hits Remixed circa 1999 has various Glam, Goth and Techno remixes of your favorite Sweet songs. Love it as well as I am a fan of these genres. Serious club music for tooling around it your mobile sound machine. These first two CDs check in at an hour apiece and you will find something you haven't heard and wonder why someone hasn't told you yet. Now for the redundant -- you get a 3rd CD and a poster. The third CD is Fox on the Run Remixed single with three of the songs from the second CD. Give this to a friend as your own CD case is probably full or leave it unlocked in the car for unsuspecting thieves. 20 minutes of something you already have is not an efficent allocation of resources as well as a poster promoting the impotent Sea Snakes release on May 15th (likely 1999) which rounds out this package. Keep the first two CDs, spread the word with the CD single by giving it to a friend, and ditch the rest of the packaging knowing that you have made a great purchase by not buying them separately.

Worth a try.......2007-06-19

Most people hate re-recordings especially if you got them without knowing it first but a few (like me) actually like to get them (usually at a very low price) for the hidden gems you may find, a live version that you didn't hear before or a re-recording that actually makes a song more enjoyable. Anyway the fact that this collection didn't even show the listing of the songs didn't help it at all. As far as I know there are 4 original versions in this set "Get Dancin'", "Sugar, Sugar", "Come And Get Your Love" and "The Rapper". I simply love the "Hitchin' a Ride" and the "I'm telling you now" versions (better sounding and more upbeat) included here (these two made the collection for me). At the used CD prices or if you find it in the clearance bin you can't go wrong (sometimes cheaper than a single). I am including the listing here so you know what you are getting if you decide to give it a try.

Unfortunately, I did not check online for any kind of review like the previous one listed. Do yourself a favor and pass this one up. The "Original Artists" are listed is listed as a come-on on the cover. All this means is someone got a hold of one or more members of the original group. It's more like "Karaoke for Artists who cannot afford to feed themselves". The recordings probably date back to early 80's. This is a pure guess because a few of the artists are deceased now. A curio piece for diehard music fans who want to know if their favorites still sound the same. (Some do - Most don't!)
I cannot make my disappointment strong enough. BEWARE!!!
P.S. I have to give this 1 star against my will-Actual Rating- 0 stars!!!!

EVERY song on this CD is not the original version, but an inferior studio take that was passed up for good reasons. There is nothing written on the CD to indicate that these are alternate takes or the standard double-talk disclaimer "These are new stereo recordings by one or more members of the original group." United Audio Entertainment's website states that they are in business to exploit music, and exploit it they do. There oughtta be a law against this!
