I finally got this cd, I have been looking for this CD for awhile now, a great by well worth it.

not as primative as one might think... pretty damn good.......2006-07-07

I started listening to Sepultura when Beneath The Remains first came out, in '89. I later found out that they had 2 previous albums, but I wasn't interested at the time. with each album after B.T.R. there was slight improvement and maturity. Sepultura evolved with Arise, and even more so with Chaos AD, and finally with Roots. after 15 years of being a Sepultura fan, I finally decided to go back to the beginning and venture into the pre-Beneath The Remains material. I was pleasantly surprised with Schizophrenia. don't get me wrong, it is definitely raw, and primative compared to B.T.R., but on Schizophrenia they were still a pretty tight and solid thrash metal band. of course each album after that was an improvement on the previous one, but think of Schizophrenia as the Slayer's Hell Awaits, or Anthrax's Spreading The Disease, or Metallica's Ride The Lightning. it is simply put, the prequel to their upcoming masterpiece. the best songs are definitely the new version of Troops Of Doom, and Escape From The Void.

Sepultura at their best........2006-03-27

This is my favorite Sep' album, "Morbid Visions/Bestial Devastation" used to be my favorite, but I realized this album is the perfect combination of their debut and better focus in sound. This was way before the Nu-Sepultura crap album "Roots." This is nothing but classic thrash metal but with a death attitude. This was also the first Sep' album featuring guitarist Andreas Kisser, who I think made Sepultura, well, Sepultura. His riffs and solos are very awesome, he's far superior to Jairo T. His solo near the three-minute mark in "Escape to the Void" is one of the best solos I've ever heard. My favorite songs on here are "intro," "From the Past Come the Storms," "Escape to the Void," "Inquisition Symphony," "Septic Schizo," and "R.I.P."

Strongly recommended for metal fans.

STRAIGHT OUTTA THE JUNGLE BABY!.......2006-03-09

Well after listening to this album I can tell ya one thing's for sure, Brazilians know how to thrash! But is this really thrash or death metal? Honestly who the hell cares because if you're a true metalhead you will inevitably be headbanging to this in no time! (watch out for whiplash though)

You see it's the early era Sepultura albums that are my favorite, they are simply the rawest, dirtiest, and most evil. It kinda pisses me off that they don't get much credit, everyone knows the awesomeness of BTR (which I love), Arise, and Chaos AD but I think more people need to check out the early releases. Oh yeah and I'm sorry but I thought Roots SUCKED! Yep I said it, so sue me. Hey I'm all up for experimentation but I just didn't like it in that case.

Anyway this is where Andreas Kisser comes in and shows his stuff. Does he kick ass? HELL YEAH! The entire album is a riff machine churning out a myriad of crazy guitar licks. I mean listen to "From the Past Comes the Storms", the immortal instrumental "Inquisition Symphony" (one of the greatest metal instrumentals EVER) and "Septic Schizo" and you'll surely see what I'm raving about, unless you're a nu-metal queer or something. The vocals are straight out of hell with Max doing mostly a death metal growl and yell but there is a little bit of clean vocals here and there.

The only problem I see with the album is the muddy production which for once does affect the listening experience for me (usually I really don't give a sh*t), there's pretty much no bass but overall it's not that bad. However, I have the original pressing of the CD so perhaps it's a tad better on the remaster.

Even if you like later Sep better albums (which is understandable), you have to give these guys for really trying to make it while nestled deep out there in Jungleland and only being 18! My recommendation- get all Sep albums up to Chaos AD, get some Kreator, Possessed, Celtic Frost, Early Slayer, etc for more extreme thrash! Well that's my opinion, LATER.

Whether it's Caustic or Polygon Window, AFX, or just plain Richard James, the man known as Aphex Twin always writes dream-inspired music. Not pleasant, running though a field of flowers dreams, but dark, paranoid, and haunting nightmares. The third installment of Analogue Bubblebath is no exception, and continues in the same demented direction as previous volumes. Describing individual tracks this time around is more difficult than usual, as each track is given a (seemingly) random serial number rather than a traditional title. The only exception is "AFX 6/b," an ambient, electro number that tweets, chirps, and hums with mechanical inspiration. Other tracks range from the sound of stuck machine cogs mixed with phazer fire to scratchy minimal techno to gurgling guttural noises. Frightening but inspired. --Daniel Shumate

The best tracks here? analogue bubblebath and isoprophlex.The other two tracks are okay but sound a bit dated(what did you expect?)You can compare it to some of his work under the ''caustic window'' alias.Still very nice and for the aphex collector a must have.

Excellent beat-driven RDJ.......2005-03-11

When I bought this, I was under the impression that it would be something among the lines of Selected Ambient Works 85-92 or On: it was released around that time, and the name alone--Analogue Bubblebath--conjured scenes of peaceful ambience, like something calm and warm. Well, anyone who's heard this knows that that couldn't be farther from reality.

It doesn't sound anything like SAW, or even ...I Care Because You Do--it's got similar beats, but lacks ...I Care's melodies and tones. Analogue Bubblebath proved to be a more abrasive and caustic electronica than I thought was possible back in 1994. "Isopropophlex"--starting with a great loop and adding layers upon layers of beats one at a time--always reminds me of NIN's "Broken" EP, like something Trent Reznor would have produced if he mixed more techno into his industrial amalgam than metal, and "Entrance to Exit" is one of those songs we all could've sworn we'd heard in the Matrix, a Prodigy-esque sirened breakbeat fare you can't help but tap your foot or nod your head to.

At just under 20 minutes, this album seems all to short, but it's a wonderful slice of great acid techno not commonly heard on James' other work, and worth every penny.

it all started with this LP.......2004-05-09

Just great. I am a fan of his music for quite a while and all of his records are special in their own way. Tracks with a little twist only RDJ can add. Sometimes a bit sinister, but thats ok for me! Most of his tracks are sertainly refreshing and energy boosting. A philosopher teacher once said: "to enjoy and appreciate the quality of sertain aspects (of whatsoever) you have to have rotten spots besides it". In case of some of the tracks ("ventolin" (medicine for asthmatic patiens) for example in which you hear a sample of a person hyperventilating), annoying bleeps, cracks and sounds are added in such way that when they fade away in a track you almost feel a releef....a contrast between serenety and rotten (no offence)

amazing, i love the song "Entrance to Exit" as it feels like a Tornado is consuming your very presense. The molody creates a fast merry go round tornado effect that sweeps you away.

Well i've owned this cd for a while now and i would have to say that its one of the best i own. Its only problem is its length. Its really short. Either way the tracks are good. The best in my opinion would have to be "Enterance To Exit". Its such an awesome song! WEll all i can say is this: if you like aphex twin then you should own this album. Its great!

Wayne Shorter was at the peak of his creative powers when he recorded Schizophrenia in the spring of 1967. Assembling a sextet that featured two of his Miles Davis band mates (pianist Herbie Hancock and bassist Ron Carter), trombonist Curtis Fuller, alto saxophonist/flautist James Spaulding and drummer Joe Chambers, Shorter found a band that was capable of conveying his musical "schizophrenia," which means that this is a band that can play straight up jazz just as well as they can stretch the limits of jazz. At their best, they do this simultaneously, as they do on the opening track "Tom Thumb." The beat and theme of the song are straightforward, but the musical interplay and solos take chances that result in unpredictable music. And "unpredictable" is the operative phrase for this set of edgy post-bop tunes. Shorter's compositions have strong themes, but they lead into uncharted territory, constantly challenging the musicians and the listener. Schizophrenia crackles with the excitement of Shorter and his colleagues trying to balance the two extremes.

Schizophrenia sounds fresh year after year...........2007-06-12

The album sounds so fresh and flowing; it's hard to believe this album was recorded back in 1967. "Tom Thumb" is my favorite on this album, but I also love the 3/4 ballad "Miyako". The wide variety of sound textures and flavors that this album brings is excellent. Wayne Shorter's music has always been hard to classify(Avante-Guard and beyond would be a good start), so I just enjoy all of it!

except for kryptonite, all of the pieces were written by wayne shorter, amazing when you consider how generous he was to his group here. tom thumb begins with a drum/bass duo that maintains control the entire piece.
go has an asiatic flavor with flute and a strumming piano. schizophrenia, the title piece, is a concerto for drum. and miyako is another one of shorter's wonderful ballads. with all the great ballads he's written i don't know why other musicians don't play them.
this album leaps ahead of its time and here in the 21st century sounds as good as, no, sounds better than just about any jazz quintet and sextet playing these days.

The Rudy van Gelder serie of Blue Note is well priced and of good quality. This serie gives good insight in the jazz scene of the late 50s an de the 60s. It's a good starting point to learn about this major jazz episode.

Wayne Shorter is one of the few major sax players. But it's the combination of playing and composing that makes him one of the greatest of all times. With 'Speak no evil' together with 'Adams apple' and 'Skizophrenia' you will get a perfect idea of Shorters early work and his huge talent. In my opion these albums are a must in understanding the evolution of jazz. And therefore a must in every jazzcollection!

'Speak no evil' is about composition. The five artists play in service of the compositions. It is about the carpet of sound and not the individual qualities. There's room for space and melodic poetry. This new approach is to be followed up for decades. It is the first solo album of Shorter without the coltraneband. This album puts him among Coltrane en Davis. This, ofcourse, was to be expected of the follower up of Coltrane in the Miles Davis Quintet.

The second album is Skizophrenia. The linernotes explanes the title as 'a retreat from reality'. Shorter finds new paths and that would make him a split-personnality in a time where people are used to stay on the same course. All the six players follow this new course and all find them selves more than capable. The music is soulfull and more important it is funky. Shorter playing is often compared with Coltrane, but on this album Shorter, in my opion, Shorter becomes one of the major players. His qualities shown here put him next to Coltrane, Rollins and Parker.

'Adam's apple' is the third great album of Wayne Shorter. With a lot of Miles Davis Quintet experience Shorter makes his best album. The compositions are (again) all beautifull, but it is the power in the playing that makes the album. It is full, sentimental, drama, spaceous and often surprising. And, mind you, this is only a quartet playing!

Wayne Shorter: once again worth your attention!.......2005-01-30

The last of (I think) eight Blue Note Shorter albums covering the 1964-67 era, and also the final purely acoustic set, not that it matters to me. Shorter uses altoist/flautist James Spaulding, trombonist Curtis Fuller, and familiar rhythm section mates Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Joe Chambers. The tunes yet again show forward movement, and though they probably aren't among the first tunes one associates with Wayne, they are effective vehicles for Shorter and his sidemen. The title cut lives up to its name while conversely allowing the group to build solid solos that defy the song's title. "Tom Thumb" is one of Shorter's all-time funkiest efforts (of course, he avoids the cliched blues phrases associated with much funk-jazz), and "Miyako" is the latest in a string of memorable Shorter ballads. As a whole, the album is arguably not an essential pick for fans of this era in jazz (and note that some other reviewers feel differently). Yet is still an important addition to Shorter's recorded works, with highlights that compare favorably to his all-time best efforts.

Quality advanced jazz.......2003-02-08

Shorter assembled an interesting sextet lineup for this 1967 outing; three horns: himself, James Spaulding on alto, who also joined him for _The Soothsayer_, Curtis Fuller on trombone, Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter contributing their usual chordal and harmonic brilliance on piano and bass, respectively, and Joe Chambers on drums. I don't know that there's ever been a sextet lined up with two saxes and a trombone, and the result is intriguing. Fuller's presence is not that noticeable, actually, except insofar as that lower register gets filled out. He mostly seems content to play his end of the harmonies that Shorter arranges. Spaulding, unfortunately, I find has a rather reedy, nasally tone, which is sometimes annoying, particularly on the opening "Tom Thumb", where he is featured. Otherwise, it's a pretty catchy tune, in the "Adam's Apple" vein. Spaulding's flute playing, however, on "Go" and "Kryptonite", is incredible. It bends and spirals around the rhythmic figures and seems to fit in perfectly with Shorter's overall program. Somewhat ironically, I suppose, my favorite song on this album is not a Shorter composition at all, but Spaulding's own "Kryptonite". A riveting moment in that tune is a largely low-register Shorter solo over a one-note bass ostinato, while Chambers impresses with some driving, flawlessly subdivided cymbal work. Ahhh, yes... my foot is tapping like crazy at this point. Chambers is also terrific on the blistering title song. Chambers is great all over this album, in fact. This isn't the first Wayne Shorter record I'd point someone to to start with, but don't miss out on it if you like the rest.

SEAMUS is a French band including five musicians coming from both sides of the Channel, helped by many guests on flute, voices, violin, etc. The Progressive rock is to be heard in the true meaning of the term: a musical fusion of the existing musical trends to create something new. Recorded in the year 2006 on the Musea label, "Zealotry Sterblichen Schizophrenia" (2006) is a concept-album dealing with deportation and the "final solution", responsible for murdering millions of innocent people. The music may remind the "dark side" of Progressive rock music, like KING CRIMSON (Mostly), VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR or MAGMA, but also classical composers, contemporary and electronic music or jazz-rock. And the list goes on... This first album is an attempt to suggest the horror with music and sound effects, including human voice often used like an instrument. It's original, often melodic, suggestive and intense. A musical and existential experience to live !
