1 out of 5 stars Not recommended for extended listening..........2007-01-02

I had been hearing Tech N9ne's name for years and had his music recommended to me multiple times because I am a longtime Bone Thugs-N-Harmony fan, so I decided to check out his 2002 album "Absolute Power." I tried to get into it, but it only took a few listens to determine that Tech N9ne's music was not for me. Tech N9ne has a very unique and interesting style, rapping quickly and loudly over similarly loud and pounding production. His talent is obvious through his fast verses, but for the most part that was the extent of my appreciation. His lyrics are hardcore and mostly concern threats, anger, and mentions of women, drugs, and insanity. This constant feeling of anger and insanity grew tiresome quickly. The production did not appeal to me either. The choruses mostly contain devilish sounding singing voices and yelling, and the beats are incessant, fast, and repetitive. The one song I really liked was "The Industry Is Punks," where Tech drops good rap verses that show true lyricism and substance. Otherwise, I found his raps redundant and for the most part not too creative. Songs like "Imma Tell" have painful choruses and music and lyrics that are inconsistent at best. Songs like "Slacker," where he celebrates his laziness, and "T9X," a 7-minute list of drugs, have such poor concepts that made me not care in the least. I understand that Tech N9ne has a very loyal following that will probably not agree with this review, but after checking out "Absolute Power" I have not joined this fanbase. By the end of the album I was waiting for it to be over, so the voices and pounding would end. His style is very unique and obviously has appeal to some, but I found none. Some of the songs are good for locker-room or pump up kind of songs, but as an album the music doesn't flow well. I think Tech N9ne may be capable of making a good album, but this isn't it and I don't plan on purchasing any more of his music anytime soon. I don't recommend this album to hip hop fans as it was recommended to me.

5 out of 5 stars Tech N9ne - Absolute Power.......2006-10-12

After the critically acclaimed release, "Anghellic," Tech N9ne was looked at as a devil worshipper and a negative style rapper because of it. But instead of taking it to heart, Tech used it as motivation to release another certified banger with "Absolute Power." It was released in 2002 and includes the biggest hit of Tech's career with "I'm a Playa."

Tech finally delivered that classic album we all knew he had in him! Every track minus one is hard as ever with Techs crazy flow and lyrics, plus the production is top notch and great to blast in your whip. A must have for any Tech N9ne fan or fan of hip hop in general.

5 out of 5 stars underground slacker.......2006-08-04

this was the first tech N9ne CD i have heard which made me go out and buy the rest of his s#!t. i couldn't believe that i hadn't listened to his music earlier being a fan of many underground talents.

his beats are catchy, lyrics are so-so, but the speed at which he raps more then makes up for it. i was highly impressed with this dude. Slacker and The Industry is Punks are probably my favorite songs of this cd, but for the most part the entire cd is worth a look.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars EASTWOOD IS ALSO A GREAT SONGWRITER.......2007-06-11

This is a "semi" career spanning CD (and the only decent one in existence) of the movie themes from some great Eastwood movies. The earlier pieces are from his days in TV and transition to movies. The more mature work with Lennie Niehaus displays Clint's artistry, no not only as an actor, award winning director, but great composer. My only complaint is the disc is missing the off-beat and totally original jazzy "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" from THE GAUNTLET.

The disc does contain his wonderful A PERFECT WORLD and THE UNFORGIVEN. Why Eastwood never won an Oscar for some of his original scores is a mystery to me. He is more celebrated as a director than as an actor only because he won more awards in that category and his acting style was known for it's low-keyed and reactionary style. But the Clint Eastwood the musician cannot be dismissed and here is that more than proves his versatility. A known jazz lover, for fans of that genre, give a listen to WHY SHOULD I CARE from "True Crime", another great Eastwood composition.

The remainder of the disc is a salute to Eastwood and his work with a heavy emphasis on the jazz.

First rate. I've been a fan since his directoral debut in PLAY MISTY FOR ME. Little did I realize what a great composer he would turn out to be.

A must for any fans as there are no single soundtacks available from his movies featuring his work.

5 out of 5 stars Play Misty For Me.......2005-12-20

Nearly an hour and 20 minutes of "Music For the Movies of Clint Eastwood". What fan wouldn't be happy with this CD? 23 Tracks, and a great compilation. From the early TV days, the "Theme from Rawhide"(this was about the time I fell in love with Clint, I think I was about 8)performed by Frankie Lane, and Spaghetti Western, the "The, Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"(does anyone REALLY know the words to this one, and does it really matter?)to the romantic Doe Eyes"(the love theme from "Bridges of Madison County", the music will have you reliving the great moments from great films that just say Clint!

The first half of the album features both Clint's own works and the fabulous talented composers he has worked with. Ennio Moricone's oh so recognizable style("The Good, The Bad and the Ugly"), the moving music of Lennie Niehaus("Pale Rider"), the haunting sounds from Lalo Schfrin("Dirty Harry Theme", where you will relive Clint doing the, "Do you feel lucky punk?" speech), and some other wonderful musicians including the great Civil War and Western sounding "Theme from Outlaw Josey Wales", by Jerry Fielding, and Erroll Garner's"Play Misty For Me", a gorgeous piano rendition. Some of Clint's own works, included are "Claudia's Theme" from "Unforgiven" "Kate's Theme" from "Absolute Power", "Big Fran's Baby" from "A Perfect World", and of course the mesmerizing and above mentioned "Doe Eyes".

Second half is a 10 part instrumental suite, "Clint Eastwood, An American Filmmaker Suite". This is music composed and conducted by Lennie Niehaus for the PBS "American Masters" documentary " Eastwood: Out of the Shadows" The music tells Clint's story musically, and it flows beautifully and emotionally. It has a little of everyting, including some great jazzy numbers. The orchestration and the musicians capture the journey wonderfully. For list of all 23 track titles, see buying info. You can also listen to samples from there.

The quality of the CD is excellent. A pamphlet with some production notes, and the tracks is included. There are some great pix of Clint as well. It doesn't have ALL his films included. Hopefully the music form "Kelly's Heroes"("Burning Bridges) and "The Beguiled"(more from Lalo Schifrin) will make the sequel album!

Take it in your car and listen to it when you are stuck in traffic, and it will take you somewhere else for a while.Just say "Play Misty For Me" and hit track 8. Highly recommended for the Eastwood fan. And for those that can't get enough, I would also recommend the soundtrack to "Bridges of Madison County". One of the most romantic albums I ever heard.

"Head 'Em Up, Move 'Em On....Keep Them Doggies Rollin...Rawhide!"

Enjoy....Laurie

4 out of 5 stars "Go ahead, make your day!".......2004-06-21

There's really not too much to say about this, except that any big fan of "Clint Eastwood", or at least the majority of these movies should like this. What I enjoy most are the tracks from his westerns, as they all set a nice mood, but the rest are very good as well. I can't help but think this would have been twice as good had it contained dialogue from each of these films too. Overall a great collection for the fan. After all, if there's one thing "Clint" knows about as much as his acting, it's his music.

It's been years since my sisters and I sat on the floor and listened to all the Bay City Roller songs over and over and over. Sometimes singing along, other times dreaming they were right in our homes or in our arms. Fabulous, free and exciting days gone by...I no longer own a record player and no longer listened to these songs - until I got this CD. UM UM UM back on the ROLLER WHEEL!! I remember all the crazy love I felt about them and their music - Know what? I still feel it....it's great!

5 out of 5 stars Best Thrash Band.......2005-08-25

I wrote a review a long time ago about Powermad but I didn't say what type of metal they were.Powermad is thrash(powerthrash). No thrash band is better than Powermad, they will kick your a$$ once you hear them.Joel DuBay has the best thrash voice out there, there is so many thrash singers that rule but to me no one beats Joel DuBay(amazing)his high screams will knock you out.Every song rules(every song). It's hard to say which songs are better because every song is amazing but Plastic Town is my favorite song, listen to when Joel sings high at the end of the song it will give you goose bumps. The riffs, solo's,bass, drums and vocals will blow you away. The Madness begins a four song album that you won't be able to find(I was lucky enough to find it on tape a long time ago)it is awesome, that is before Absolute Power. The Madness Begins is from 1988 and Absolute Power is from 1989.Powermad is....,what can I say,if you never heard of Powermad or don't have this album you definatly should not be listening to metal, they are amazing.Powermad is from Minnesota. Please reissue The Madness Begins and Absolute Power, please.
If you have Direct tv and you have the Starz movie package watch the movie Wild At Heart it's always on,watch the first 50 minutes of the movie and you will hear the song Slaughterhouse alot and it also shows Powermad on the movie so if you want to know what they sound like watch the movie.
Here are all the songs in order and what I rate them as out of a five star,

Slaughter House-5/5
Absolute Power-5/5
Nice Dreams-5/5
Return From Fear-5/5
Test The Steel(Powermad)-5/5
Plastic Town-5/5

4 out of 5 stars Great music........2005-03-13

I got my hands on this baby and I honestly was not able to keep my hand from banging until it began to hurt. The aggressive and energetic opener, Slaughterhouse, has been featured in David Lynch's road movie Wild at Heart and gives a good impression of what awaits the purchaser of this fine piece of Speed Metal. One of the rare noteworthy examples of Metal that is NOT from Scandinavia. Aw shiiiiiat! Get this one.

5 out of 5 stars Diamond in the rough/Melodic thrash metal band at peak........2004-01-27

The very first time i heard Powermad was when i sent away for a free copy of "the Madness Begins",and felt like i had just won the best prize of my life.I listened to the tape over and over and NEVER got bored with this finely tuned unit, and told all my friends about it,and even passed the tape around to them so that they would believe it for themselves.Success.I followed the band pretty well, and recall that they did not get alot of coverage and couldn't figure out why. When the recording of "Absolute Power" came out,i remember listening to it the first time, and chills ran up my spine, and goosebumps popped up,and the hair on the back of my neck tingled-this cd WAS AMAZING!!!!!!To this day this CD still stands out in my head, and i can hear the songs clearly. Not only does the CD shred,it is also emotive and quite literally could bring tears to your eyes with its sheer musicianship, and killer vocals. It's really inconcievable that this band did not take the fire from this effort, and carry the torch on with another release.Words cannot describe this gem lost in the fields commercialism. Please do yourself a favor, and discover "Absolute Power" in your life, buy purchasing this disc-you will not regret it!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, but rare US speed/power metal.......2003-09-03

Powermad has remained somewhat of an enigma since the release of this album, which contains some of the best melodic speed metal you'll ever hear. As you need comparisons (as always) to paint yourselves at least somewhat of a picture of what the band sounds like, I would say Annihilator's debut comes pretty close. Relentless quality riffing to which no mortal could keep their head from banging violently. The musicianship and singingis also at least at par with the referenced incarnation of Annihilator (also my favorite in their history, by the way). Small differences exist in the clearer singing of Joel DuBay and (certainly in comparison to Toxik, also in this realm of metal) better production. The album shifts to a somewhat lower gear on Nice Dreams and Plastic Town, but no song is a misfit on this excellent piece of work. The mystery lies in why this band never released anything new after this opus. Although several sources reported that the band was made up of session musicians and got together more or less by accident, an interview in Trade Mafia #5 of 1989 would lead one to believe that they were in it for the long haul. Exposure in two movies ("Wild at Heart" by David Lynch being most notable) almost seemed to guarantee their future. Maybe one day we'll find out what happened, but I'm more than happy in the meantime, to have my copy of this rare gem.

5 out of 5 stars Powerfully charged rock n roll.......1999-02-16

Marking the Figgs' bittersweet return to the indie labels, Couldn't Get High is an emotionally chaotic album. The swan song of departing guitarist Guy Lyons, the album ironically shows Lyons coming into his own as a songwriter. Normally contributing only a few tracks, Lyons wrote four of Couldn't Get High's strongest songs, including the opening track "Said Enough," the blistering "If That's What You Want" and the passionate "Always a Breakdown." This album shows all of the cynicism you would expect from an enormously talented band that has been dropped from a big label, but, somewhat miraculously, the Figgs have lost none of their energy and enthusiasm for playing rock n' roll. And drummer Pete Hayes' songwriting debut, "The Bar", is alone worth the price of admission.

5 out of 5 stars This album is a great example of this bands talent.......1998-09-13

I picked up this album as soon as it came out and it was a great investment. This band has a number of songs which are so meliodic and very catchy that you cant help but become a fan. Songs like "Not Involved" and "Now" are great examples. Buy this album you wont regret it.
