4.5, Great Musicianship!.......2007-08-03
This was my first Death Metal cd so it is special to. My first exposure to Death Metal was when I was in the 3rd grade (i'm only 13). I believe it was Behemoth and the brutalness kinda scared me so I was hesitant about buying any Death Metal cds from then on. I just got this about a year ago.
So any way this is a really good cd and it is played by some of the best musicians in Death Metal. Trey Azagthoth's playing is amazing. Pete Sandoval is basically a drum machine. David Vincent boasts some of the best Death Metal vocals in the world. The songs are great. My favorites though are Dominate, Where The Slime Live, Eyes To See, Ears To Hear, Nothing But Fear, Inquisition (Burn With Me), and Hatework. The only reason I gave this 4.5 instead of 5 was because of the song Melting, it's just filler. It would have been better if it was a guitar or drum solo song. Overall pick this up along with Covenent and Alters Of Madness.
Great Follow-Up To Covenant!.......2007-03-10
For whatever reason, Domination has always been in the shadow of Covenant. Whenever you ask a Morbid Angel fan which album is his/her favorite of the two, more often than not, they'll choose Covenant over Domination. This has always puzzled me because I find Domination to be the superior release. David Vincent's vocals on this album are much more understandable and also more powerful. Another reason I prefer Domination is the fact that the tempos are much more varied, whereas Covenant is mostly a constant barrage of fast death metal. It may be just me, but I believe that this is Morbid Angel's best (next to Formulas). A must for Death Metal fans.
1. Dominate - 5/5
2. Where The Slime Live - 5/5
3. Eyes To See, Ears To Hear - 5/5
4. Melting - Interlude
5. Nothing But Fear - 4/5
6. Dawn Of The Angry - 5/5
7. This Means War - 5/5
8. Caesar's Palace - 5/5
9. Dreaming - Interlude
10. Inquisition (Burn With Me) - 4/5
11. Hatework - 5/5
The best of Morbid Angel.......2007-01-15
This album is amazing. It's by far Morbid Angel's best album. Everything on here is fantastic.
Some people have called this Morbid Angel's commercial album. What? I don't get it.
Proof that Morbid Angel is creative but not money-hungry........2006-08-24
Dave and the gang decide to hold back on the speed in their first three albums and focus on groovy, sludge metal. While I prefer their first three albums to this, I don't have a problem with this whatsoever because you still get the intense drumming from Pete and Trey and Erik deliver killer solos. To top it off, Dave's vocals are still haunting and his lyrics are very well written; no Korn s*** like "I hate this, I hate that, f*** everybody" lyrics in here.
Every song on here is good, but my favorites are the fierce opener "Dominate," the sludge masterpiece "Where the Slime Live," and the chilling closer "Hatework."
Your MA collection isn't complete without this album. If you want a good change of pace from the basics, this is for you. If you're a nu-metal fan, prepare to hate it.
Morbid Angel Rules!!!!.......2006-07-24
One day, me and the other third of the infamous thrash metal group Fumar were wandering through FYE. Walking up and down the aisles proved efficient when Morbid Angel's Domination caught my eye. I had never heard them before, but that satanic artwork just drew me in. I shelled out 10 bucks and my life has never been the same again. I was new to death metal (I only had Symbolic by the legendary Death, Warkult by Malevolent Creation, and Annihilation of the Wicked by Nile), and I wanted to give MA a try. I now have all their albums excluding "E".
Trey is an amazing guitarist and songwriter, Rutan's allright. Sandoval is amazing and Vincent is upset about something. I also recommend anything by Death, Gwar, and/or Anthrax.

Just what is meant by "cultural piracy"? The term gets thrown around when Paul Simon makes an album of African-derived music, or David Byrne tries his hand at Latin rhythms. More recently the imperialist charge has been levelled at the practice of appropriating nonwestern traditional music into western club beats, a genre known variously as trance, world dance, ethno-techno, or global ambient, and represented by the globetrotting grab-bag sounds of groups like Trans-Global Underground, Banco de Gaia, and the leaders of the stew school, London's Loop Guru.
In their hands, techno and nonwestern styles are natural bedfellows. Both unfold along a fluid, linear path that put them at odds with western pop's verse-chorus infatuation. And sociologically speaking, the ecstatic release of the dancefloor has tons in common with the spiritual exorcism in mystic folk from Bali, Java, India, Iran, or Morocco--just some of the places represented on Loop Guru's second album, Amrita. In fact, the only impediment to ethno-techno's beautiful marriage is how well producers turn the music's cultural dislocation into postmodern enlightenment. Loop Guru, meticulous studio crafters and enthusiastic live performers, fare well in the middle passage. They do it not as looters, nor as teachers (Amrita's samples and appropriations are never credited), but with the simple (and best) justification--it sounds good. --Roni Sarig
Customer Reviews:
super sounds.......2000-03-06
i haven't heard any of Loop Guru's other stuff but this blew me away. it's an excellent cd if your looking for soothing, exotic and fresh sounds. it was made in 96' but it's very "now". timeless would be a better description. the more i listen to it, the better it gets - i notice something new with each listen. wonderful, beautiful cd, a must buy.
great,great,great!.......1999-07-22
Even though most people who know and like Loop Guru prefer their album Dunjia, I think in the long run and after listening to both albums for years now Amrita offers more versatility. It might be less danceable and instantly accessible than Dunjia and it seems more translucent and fragmented but you never get tired of it because the melodies dont wear out but actually make more and more sense. Phenomenal album. It can happen that you hear a song somewhere and you're like :"wow who's that band? Sounds familiar. I hope I have it." and when you find out its Loop you are actually relieved to know them already and havent let a great band like that slip by.
A brilliant, flawless album........1999-02-24
A lot of electronic/cross-cultural music that I have listened to is catchy and simple enough that it has motivated me to try my hand at it. This album, however, is so good that I realize there is a level I will never achieve. I have owned it for a year now and never get tired of a single track. The best tracks are "Diwana," "Often Again," and "Epic Song."
AmbientGroove & Trancy.......1998-07-17
The album taken together is put together after the name: in a loop format in the vein of higher quality ambient world (sort of). What is the highlight though is track #3 Diwana. Awesome song full of spiritual vigor and essence. Close your eyes and experience the great dragon.

ROCKS your SOCKS OFF.......2004-05-06
If you like your punk rock with politics, SPE is for you. Not a passive CD; Really smart, conscious, and powerful words come from Mario, who I have to say is an amazing singer. This disc is also a great driving record. After just one listen, you'll want to go out and protest all the corporations!
Raw and Powerful.......1999-11-25
The raw energy that SPE shows on this cd is outstanding. the songs on this cd are for the connesuir of powerful new punk. I just purchased the cd "wrecreation," and it is no weak sequel. SPE's power flows from Mario Jimenez's vocals, and with the oldschool guitar and drums, you can't help but enjoy this cd.
not bad, not nad at all.......1999-06-23
I was reading this magazine with Tom from Rage Against The Machine and he was talking about this band and how good they were. So I went to the store, got it, and was very happy with it.
It Rocks.......1998-06-25
SPE sounds a lot like Tool, only a bit more intense and less creepy. It's a worthwhile by if you're looking for something to get you pumped up.
I listen to this CD everytime I'm headed to a mountain to go riding (snowboarding). It still gets me stoked, and I've owned it for four years. Tracks 7 and 8 are particularily good. Definetly pick this one up.

When will you tour?.......2007-02-12
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Wendy and Lisa. I have loved them since their first album and this one 'Girl Bros.' is by far my favorite (i own two copies because i lost one and then when i bought another, i found the other one...go fig.)This CD is amazing, I love how each track is different from the next. My favorite track is All Night. It's really raw and really sexy...
Anyways, this review is late in the making but I just wanted to put my 5 cents in.
Where Are They Now?.......2006-02-02
Oh my, I sincerely LOVE this CD....it never appeared on any searches for Wendy & Lisa...It was a bolt of surprise to stumble upon this gem of a CD... Wendy & Lisa -where are you now? Thank you for the four wonderful CDs you made for us..I only wish there was more...and I'll keep hoping...
An Overlooked Goodie.......2005-06-22
This cd is full of great music. Wendy and Lisa's music on this album is very mellow but delivers a punch. If you listen to the lyrics closely you'll really learn how much the ladies have evolved to this new level of musical talent.
I want more music from these two.....
Best since debut album.......2005-05-23
This album is their best since their Debut, which was strong w/ production by David Z. They shine on their own here, with a more mature sound. Unique and beautiful music, I hope they put out more.
Wow, I've missed these two..........2005-05-22
Just received a used copy of this CD that I've been trying to track down for YEARS. It was worth the wait. I like the sparse arrangements on this album. Tchad Blake's production is right on: it's full sounding, lush, clean & crisp. The compositions are well written, lyrics are thoughtful and touching, and vocal arrangements complimentary to what's going on musically. I was getting chills on the first listen - I felt like I had found two old friends I haven't seen in a long time. Not sure about a hidden track that is mentioned in other reviews here - I don't seem to have that on mine. Also wasn't aware about Trevor Horn producing an album for them - I hadn't heard. I like Trevor Horn's production style and when I thought about it - it seemed like an intriguing idea in theory. In any case - if you're a Wendy & Lisa fan, [which I am], this will be an integral part of your W&L collection. Thanks girls for coming back in my life. Looking forward to hearing more, always.

Hot tracks are in no order: Land Of The Lost, Hit A Motherfu****, Will Blast, Spill My Blood, Late Nite Tip, and Body Parts 2. Three 6 the best in the rap game alive and now.

an unknown classic.......2006-03-10
i have 10 three 6 mafia cd's and chapter 2: world domination is one of the best cds that i own if not the best. There is a bunch of badass songs on this cd like number 20 (anyone out there) number 19 ( n 2 deep) number 3 (will blast) number 6 (prophet posse) number 8 ( i ain't cha friend) and so on. chapter 2: world domination is an insane record so if you like three 6 or rap music in general, buy this cd. personaly, i think this is there second best record (the end flat out takes the cake) ever made. i'm 20 years old and i've been a loyal and dedicated three 6 mafia fan for about a good 5 years and this cd is unbelievable. three 6 mafia straight up get down on this cd like no other, and all this is coming from an average white kid (and m not a wigger) thats listens to everything. three 6 mafia are my favorite group/artists/producers to ever make music. i think three 6 is better than 2 pac and biggie and everyone else, because their music is so original and creative. so i recommend that anyone who appreciates music then you should buy this cd

This colorful Seattle seven-piece tones down the wild psychedelia of 1993's A Return to the Inner Experience in favor of a more contemporary strain of art rock. Gordon Raphael's battery of synths leads the way, singer Anisa Romero ranges from folky ("These Old Bones") to ferocious ("Deep Sunless Sea"), and the band can crank it ("Scapegoat," "Stretched") when the mood hits. --Jeff Bateman
Customer Reviews:
Psychedelic space rock at its best.......2005-02-18
What else can I say?
If you are into bands like Porcupine tree, and Pink Floyd you don't want to miss out on this band.
For any mood, "This Timeless Turning" travels from trippy, to mellow, to screaming loud, and then back again. The dreamy instramentals at the end of this cd are a fantastic touch.
They are back together, and are working on a live album and a new studio album. See what they are up to now at skycriesmary.com
Perfect CD.......2005-01-14
This is just a beautiful, perfect, intense musical experience. Haunting, mysterious, glorious music. I wish I had seen SCM live, but I seem to stumble upon bands after they have disbanded now that I'm an old man of 56. My sons turned me on to SCM, bless them! Buy this cd!
Underrated.......2004-12-15
SCM is an underrated band that deserved a lot more attention than they ever got. Anisa Romero has possibly the best voice in the business - haunting, ethereal, and with a range that puts Whitney "Crack Is Whack" Houston to shame.
The music is free flowing, and there is no particular style that gets more attention than any other. They do what they feel, and they have the musicianship to pull it off. Lyrically, they are intelligent and fascinating whether they are singing about global warming, space aliens, or twisted love.
I ordered this album a long time ago through one of those rip-off music clubs, having never heard of this Seattle based band before. I didn't listen to it for a few months until I just got a wild hair up my bum to hear something new. I was hooked ever since.
Originality is the key here. This is why they never got much airplay, and this is why they have a "cult" following. They are too good for mainstream radio that feeds us nothing but more of the same. They are too talented to be appreciated by those looking for one genre or another and are unwilling to expand their horizons. From moody and soft to hard driving and loud, this band covers it all, and they do it better than most artists out there.
This band has been gone way too long!!.......2004-10-07
Ever since I heard them in concert back in 1996, SCM and in particular This Timeless Turning has been on my all-time listened to album list. It's music for every mood, from Shipwrecked to These Old Bones, from Slow Down Time to Deep Sunless Seas. An example of original 90's Seattle music back before everything became commercialized, this is a must for any music lover who turns on the radio and then turns it off because they're tired of the same old un-original crap year after year.
Back from the dead.......2004-07-22
This album and "Moonbathing" are the two best SCM albums by far. I had the opportunity to see them in Bellingham and they blew the place up. We were all in a stupor and could not get enough!! After all these years they are back together. Check out their webpage at www.skycriesmary.com A few CDs will be reissued and it looks like their first show is in Seattle. I wish I could be there !!

REINVENTING THE ACID JAZZ SOUND!!!.......2004-05-18
An incredible blend of acid jazz, funk and soul grooves that would make any fan of Shadow, Tobin or Cam proud. Pimp Daddy Nash is in a league of his own and is definitely not getting the props he deserves. Truly "leftfield" jazz, this one will be rejected by those used to a certain style of jazz, but will be gleefully accepted by those looking for that "new jazz sound." Highly Recommended.
Niiiiiice.......2002-12-31
I picked this cd up after a brief listen over the tracks. Upon listening, I was very glad to find that the music twisted together the rythm and solid breakbeats of jazz with the off color synthetic taste of modern electronics. Jazzy without sounding live, with electronic elements without sounding like a computer soundscape. The album grooves. I am self admittedly biased towards an albums beats, but this CD does not fail to satisfy. And along with the solid and interesting beats, there are some nice funky leads, and warm synth pads with scratching, odd vocal samples, twips, blings, beeps, rumbling basslines and twittering snares. It's a nice amalgamation of electronic mindset and 'live' instrumentation.
Best damned acid jazz around.......1999-08-25
I have heard countless pitiful excuses for acid jazz of people stealing drum and horn tracks and throwing them together, but nothing has been like Pimp Daddy Nash. Nash doesent slack off with his music, he gets multiple loops of horns, base drums/symbols and vocal tracks that always keep the music jamming.
Clean, Contemporary mix of Jazz, Tech, Modern.......1999-02-26
In the Acid-Jazz genre this CD plays clean and modern. Not space-music, or techno, or over-sampled, but clean modern Acid-Jazz that moves. Definately one of the best in this style range
MOst excellent.......1998-12-08
Pimp daddy nash combines many of the a priori elements of the trip-hop culture which are lacking in today's popular artists. I thuroughly enjoyed his psychadellic baloon to the moon, where music was played and people were talking in the background....it was MOST PRECARIOUS, yet subtle in an acid sort of way. I recommend this cd to all of you who enjoy the british nightlife with a twist of jazz known as the acid.

Making most trip hop artists sound like headbangers in comparison the music of Sugar Plant exists in it's own blissful realm.Employing soft female vocals and a dreamy soundscape that washes over you this Asian group is pure magic. My only complaint is that some songs wander on too long but if you're tired of ordinary New Age or Lounge music Sugar Plant is a terrific group to try.The most beautiful combination of vocals and music since Julee Cruise teamed up with Angelo Badalamenti.
Lie back and chill fer cryin' out loud..........2002-07-17
Melodic, peaceful, and shimmering with soundscapes from the deepest caverns in your mind. Happy/Trance Mellow is ultimately a background soundtrack for the type of rainy days when beams of sunlight shine through. Airy, soft, pulsating synths and guitars that ride on rails slide though a set of speakers like a waterfall of silver. Very, very subdued.
absolute bliss.......1999-10-13
we all have some secret delight that we are torn between wanting to see recieve the acclaim we feel it deserves and wanting to keep it to ourselves, knowing that the popularity it could and/or should recieve would lessen its impact. while we wish that everyone could share the experience, our fortune in stumbling upon something that impacts our lives is something that adds a degree of value to the product that is rarely found within popular culture. such is the case with sugar plant. while there have been a few close friends i dared to play "happy/trance mellow" or "after after hours" for, i usually keep it to myself--not because i fear the reaction some seem to have (that it is too sleepy, too derivitive of the velvet underground or mazzy star or similarly veined--no pun intended--sleep pop bands)--for, to the contrary, everyone i have played their music for has immediately bought the album--but because i do not want to see this music that is so personal reach widespread familiarity. you can say what you want about who they may sound like, or that they're songs are too long or unvarying, but the undeniable truth is that sugar plant has consistantly created overwhelmingly beautiful music without being affected by current trends in music. they stated in an interview that they wanted to make music to play after a rave or similiarly chemically infused long nite, and what they have done is turn out album after album of gorgeous lullabyes, poetry over drones and simple themes, with no other aim than to soothe. they make no pretense of trying to push the bounds of pop music--no drum and bass or ethnic instrumentation--they use samplers and synthesizers as instruments rather than gimmicks, and in their virtuousity with these tools create sounds that are foreign but powerful. perfect for driving, napping, thinking, and anything beyond these innocent diversions you can think of.
sugar plant is a wonderful new sound.......1999-05-11
this album is very refreshing.i do not listen to very many obscure, unpopular composers(who may have been mentioned be4)nor do i have a.d.d i could listen to this cd for any occasion.it consoles me-"rise"it chills with me-"rainy day"and we all fall in love.i own over 2,000 cds and this is one i listen to often.i suggest giving it a good listen, you'll be glad you did, unless you hate children, you don't hate children, do you?
Melodic but ultimately unsatisfying.......1999-02-17
Rather than pioneer new musical ground, Sugar Plant seems content to wade in mellow synth and ambient fuzz. Much of this new album recalls Jean Michelle Jarre, except looser, if that is possible. Conceptually, this album suffers from a lack of direction, as if everyone involved was bored by the entire undertaking. However, from a purely aesthetic perspective, this album earns its apt appelation. While lyrically and musically irrelevant, Happy/Trance Mellow evinces the appropriate feelings, but the listener would be hard pressed to recall anything specific about this music. Stereolab, Can, and several others have already accomplished this and much more, yet this remains an adequate album for a rainy day.

Kristeen where did you go?.......2006-05-27
This is the only CD I have ever seen by Miss Young although I have heard there are others. I want them if they are out there because this one totally took me by surprise and I have yet to hear anyone else like her. I've heard the words Goth and Industrial associated with her (Goth I can kind of see) but the bottom line is that she writes really good songs and presents them with an intensity that grabs you immediately. I check out Amazon every once in a while to see if any of her other CDs (if they are in fact out there) have become available. In an age of musical fluff and flash Miss Young was true to her muse and created something truly original.
You'll be very impressed & truly blown away by her.......2001-09-13
I 1st caught Ms. Young back in 93, when she fronted Waterworks (find their CD too, self titled) at Mississippi Nights in the STL area. WOW. was I blown away, and have been ever since. She is a true original, you'll either get her or you won't. Not only is this a cd that's all over the place musically, it's also consistantly great. Stand out traxs are "Sweetest Freedom", "PE 9.14" and the wailing in "Marley's Ghost", which are amazing. Go and see Ms. Young live if she comes to your town, be prepared for a unique treat. Words cannot express how her and her voice can command a stage, & she'll NEVER bore you. ALL of her cd's are gems, find them and devour em.
I'll drop almost anything to go and catch her live. And I will give her this, it doesn't matter how many people are in the venue, she plays like it's packed and gives 110% (like at the old Cicero's when NOBODY was there). That's a trait I've always admired in her for not many artists will do that.
She is one artist that I have force-fed to numerous people with no regrets.
Go KY! Hope u return to STL soon.

Killing Joke meets Kate Bush with no guitar..........2000-05-04
That's about the closest I can come to defining Kristeen Young's album. Loud, agressive music, but there's no guitar, which kind of breaks the image of rock and gothic that we have. Nonetheless, Young is far and away talented enough to pull it off.
Really, this one is a must for any ecstacy or gothic fan, Young is peak of either genre.
BJORK MEETS NINE INCH NAILS.......2000-03-27
This CD is really good! its a must for industrial and gothic fans everywhere.

ah brings back memories.......2006-10-16
Ok I first saw these guys when they opened for Front Line Assembly at the Opera House in Toronto. None of us had ever heard of them before and did not know what to expect. I remember that we all thought that they were such a Nitzer Ebb clone and spent the entire show shouting "Join In The Chant" overtop of their songs. Ok so it wasn't nice to make fun of them... but you know what? I bought their CD! There are a couple of really good foot stomping tracks on this cd that we heard regularily in the clubs soon after that show.
Yes, they were quite an unoriginal imitation of Nitzer Ebb, but hey for what it's worth they actually did it very well.
A must-have classic from the heyday of Industrial Dance.......2000-02-28
Released originally in 1992, Contagion's release Contaminant PCB is the brilliant first release of this prolific group. However you can't tell how prolific by looking at their release listings, which currently (Mar. 2000) only includes this release and a few out-of-print singles. For classification, this group falls within the Industrial Dance genre, and it is one of the better albums in that genre, especially in the areas of orchestration, lyrics, message, and vocal styling. Fast-paced, deep, layered orchestrations combined with raspy (yet understandable), violent, poignant lyrics and vocals make this an easy favorite for hard core Industrial fans and clubbers alike. The album features 8 original songs and remixes of five of those songs.
The release starts off on a strong note with "We Believe" with driving beats and poignant, somewhat religious lyrics ("It's my life it's my religion / It's my right to my decision"). The God Mix isn't very different from the original. It has been dubbed and produced down, and it doesn't use the original elements as well, however there is some good guitar work.
"Ingest" is a strong follow-up, and has one of most effective uses of sampling I've heard as a conclusion ("Who told you to think! "). The Infectious Re-Mix of this song is somewhat dubbed down, but it does pull up that strong violent bass line some. However, it is missing the concluding sample I referenced, making the song end with a whimper, not a blast in the face like the original.
"Who Are You" uses sampling equally as well, combined with driving bass and rhythms that get you moving. The Intestant Mix sounds very similar in construction, however it features a rougher, less produced edge, more use of effective, violent samples in place of the vocals, and additional guitar and keyboard work. I actually prefer the mix over the original.
"Scratch" slows down in BPM, but not in intensity. The vocals and beat will get you thrashing and yelling along. The Twitch Re-Mix has been produced further, pushing back the vocals, but it features some additional orchestration that make it more club and body-slammin' friendly, reminiscent of Prayer Tower. [This song was released as a single, and contained a bonus 12" Extended Edit of the song.]
"Fight!" seems to be an Industrial answer to Depeche Mode's "People Are People." The orchestration is shallower than the other songs, and it just doesn't grab you and suck you in as much as the other songs. However, the "Fight" samples from the movie The Abyss are really interesting. There is no remix of this song.
"Aggress" is driving, fast-faced, and is great for head banging. However, the refrain "[4-letter-explicative] you" is not creative or inspired, unless you're just in a REALLY bad mood. I found little difference between the Suicide Mix and the original.
"Turn of the Screw" is my favorite song, and I was disappointed that it did not get a remix version when it was so crying out for one (though it was released as a rare DJ's only remix 12"). The refrain, "It's not your fault no more that I can't get along," is poignant and really great to yell along to. The lyrics and religious symbolism are handled in a thought-provoking manner.
The final song, "Contagion Seven," is an airy, ephemeral instrumental piece with a hard edge (thanks to manipulated samples). While interesting, it doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the release. Since this was new to the CD (the original 1992 tape doesn't have it), it was perhaps added as a personal statement by Keith Arem.
For those interested in Contagion, it's important to realize that the group has had a wider influence than simply this one CD. They have appeared on several movie soundtracks (such as The Living End which featured many of these songs, and Skinner, which had many unreleased songs) as well as produced many songs and sound bites for video games. Also, watch for a new full length Contagion CD (Infectant) to appear in late April 2000.
If you need something to pop in after a hard day at work or school, or if traffic is just lousy, this is the CD you need to put in. Let the music take control, move you, get you yelling along, and allow you to "release the pressure that builds within." A classic and must have for Industrial fans. While a strong 4 on its own, my associations with band member Keith Arem via e-mail as well as personal experiences with this CD earn it a 5 star rating.
