4 out of 5 stars Their Best.......2007-06-15

I know I'm in the minority of ELO fans that would call this their best CD, but it is. It came toward the end of the run of their original line up, but the songwriting and catchy keyboarding was top-notch here.

3 out of 5 stars Still One Of The Best ELO CD (Monkees886@aol.com).......2007-05-19

This is the Last ELO cd. Sad to say but true. But this cd has left some good tunes for everyone to enjoy. The nice thing about it, Its Remastered.

4 out of 5 stars Nice addition to your ELO collection.......2007-05-14

I have always liked this album and having the new remaster just adds to the enjoyment. Sound quality is really good.

3 out of 5 stars EL-Oh..........2007-05-14

Not the greatest album they did, I read others reviews of this and hoped it would be a great on, I have listened to it a few times and find it not to be on my list for the futute fave category.

5 out of 5 stars great music, from a modern leader in pop and classic music.......2007-04-11

This is just another fine example of great music revisited with added tracks that add even more fun to an already great release from ELO! I can't express my pleasure it is to hear this again and again, and whish there is more to come! This kind of talent is a gift that has to be heard over and over. GOD Bless all!

Album Description

MASSIVE MELODIC PROG-POWER METAL DEBUT!

Pyramaze remind me of a more progressive and rock influenced version of STRATOVARIOUS meets KAMELOT but there is so much more in here. The diverse musical tastes of the band members come to life fully in these nine songs, sounds of the mighty IRON MAIDEN, and ICED EARTH ring through too. Michael Kammeyer has written a masterpiece.

Lance King's Vocals are the best ever and Morten Gade's (Wuthering Hights) Drumming is outstanding ! This album actually brings something new to the Prog-Power metal realms where things have gotten a bit stale as of late. "Melancholy Beast" is a wonderful display of how good progressive power metal can sound when performed by those who master the genre. Pyramaze is an oustanding Metal unit with a bright future. "Melancholy Beast" is an absolutely highly recommended Prog-Power Metal album, Lance's vocals cut through flesh and bone (as usual) perfectly in line with the piercing guitar riffs / solo's and the great sonic production of this album. Fantastic release, no doubt about it!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars No this is how metal prog should be done!.......2007-05-17

If you like Dream Theather and Queensryche, you'll love this cd.

The band is solid and the tunes are great. Production is very good and the cd jacket is also very informative.

At times during the listening of this cd you'd swear Geoff Tate from Queensryche was singing it as the voice is quite similar to Lance King the vocalist for Pyramaze. The guitars, bass and keys are great and the drumming is solid and driving. These guys have it together and this release is a very nice surprise. It just goes to prove that yet again good music can be found, you just have to looking for it.

Buy this cd!

5 out of 5 stars Metal Delight.......2007-05-02

I think i nutted after hearing track 3. I have longed for a metal effort that had some reminisce of 80's metal (not talking hair band B.S.). This album combines the 80's metal effort with a later proggressive sound. Lance Kings vocals and style bring to mind QueensRyche G. Tate. The riffs throught out the album are bone crunching and the solo's are amazing. I not one that cares for keyboards but they are incorprated perfectly within the music. If your a fan of Queensryche, Iron Maiden...ect you won't be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars pyramaze a nice surprise.......2007-03-09

i read the reviews they were all good and they were right
you cant go wrong with this one vocals, guitar, drums its all
there. buy it, it rocks

4 out of 5 stars Solid progressive melodic power-metal..........2007-02-04

'Melancholy Beast' is the first release from this Danish / American band and a pretty solid debut album if I might add. As stated in the title of the review, this band throws in progressive touches from time to time that add depth to their songs. Musicianship is top notch, and their vocalist ( through the first 2 albums, he has since departed ) deserves mentioning here as well, as his great vocals play an intricate role in the sound of Pyramaze. Fans of melodic power metal look no further!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing debut!.......2007-01-21

When I first heard "Mighty Abyss" on Internet radio, I was immediately impressed after just one listen and knew that I had to have the album that it was on. I was not disappointed in the least! After listening to Melancholy Beast, Pyramaze became one of my favorite bands. I love the vocal melodies and harmonies, and the music is fantastic too! Other favorite songs of mine are the title track, "Sleepy Hollow," and "The Journey." Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Great way for ELO to say goodbye.......2007-02-27

it was 1986 and Jeff Lynne had enough of ELO plus the band's fortunes were going down the drain, the Orchestra was gone replaced with synthesizers and eletronic drums. People need to understand what Jeff was going through at the time his marriage was falling apart and so was his band. ELO were no longer the big band they were in the 70's the band had fallen off thier pedestal so Jeff decided after one more album he would bring ELO to an end for good. anyways BOP is a great way for a a great band to say goodbye. We miss ELO. 1970-1986.

5 out of 5 stars swansong....til 2001.......2006-09-18

Critics and fans alike seem to regard Balance of Power, ELO's final studio LP from 1986, as little more than a footnote to the band's illustrious hit-making career. Yet the album is a superbly crafted and consistently appealing pop record (there's not a single clinker in this ten-track bunch, a rare accomplishment indeed for a singles-oriented band) and is of historic importance when viewed as Jeff Lynne's opening bid for artistic credibility in a post-Xanadu age, which ultimately proved so successful that he realized his life's dream, that is, to work with the, um, Beatles.

Lynne abandons the excesses of his previous few outings here, stripping the short, simply structured songs to their melodic and harmonic core, with synths playing a far more subtle role than previously. Even the cover graphic indicates a retreat of sorts, replacing ornate adolescent silliness with a simple visual pun.

"Getting to the Point," the first and finest of the record's three ballads, explores with a new-found maturity the dying embers of a relationship, with the first-ever appearance of solo sax on an ELO record. "Without Someone" is similarly restrained in tone, also calmly reflecting on a lost love. Finally, the initially off-putting "Endless Lies," with its operatic chorus, finally clicks when one realizes the song is a tribute to future-Lynne collaborator Roy Orbison.

The remaining seven brief pop-rockers are uniformly excellent. "Sorrow About to Fall" makes an inspired swipe of FOREIGNER's "Urgent," with sax again stepping into the spotlight, while "Is it Alright" (sic), a simple letter checking up on a friend who felt the need to move on, deftly weaves together several joyously Beatle-esque, octave-leaping melodies with a latter-day Steve Winwood synth pattern and a mildly sinister bass chug. "Calling America," a minor stateside hit, is a similar exploration of a friend who has left town, which bemoans high technology's inability to connect the two across the Atlantic; a far cry from the excessive technofascism of 1981's Time LP.

The final track, "Send It," inclusively ends the string of album-closing "rock and roll" numbers begun with Discovery's "Don't Bring Me Down," and continuing through Time's "Hold on Tight" and Secret Messages' "Rock 'N' Roll is King." The song succeeds especially when set in low relief to the previous album-closers' synth-based clutter, which betrayed their hollow insincerity. Here, the melody and the steady beat carry the song along handsomely, and the album arrives at the terminal in tip-top condition.

Within the year Lynne was already collaborating with George Harrison on a number of projects, and his production career began in earnest, offering his now-stripped-and-clean sound to the likes of Del Shannon, and fellow Traveling Wilburys Roy Orbison and Tom Petty (Bob Dylan approached Daniel Lanois for his first post-Wilburys project, to the likely disappointment of Lynne).

After his work with Ringo Starr on the excellent Time Takes Time record, the pieces were in place for Lynne to make his final move. Since his teen days with the Idle Race, singing of John and Paul and Ringo and George's "lovely tunes," Jeff Lynne, a good-natured working-class lad from a northern industrial city, imagined a better life. In 1995, reality caught up with imagination, and "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love" are the glorious if sadly incomplete results.

3 out of 5 stars Judge this album on its own merits or lament the band's departure from its trademark soundscape: the choice is yours.......2006-09-12

I've been enjoying ELO's music since I heard "Don't Bring Me Down" for the first time in the late 70's. I own the entire ELO catalog on CD (including some of the reissues with bonus tracks) as well as the Afterglow and Flashback boxsets and Jeff Lynn's solo LP. The bottom line for this album is simple: If you like "Armchair Theater" and Jeff's work with the Travelling Wilburys, you will enjoy listening to "Balance of Power". It certainly is not as well crafted as some of the band's earlier LPs, so less serious fans can do without this album. "Calling America" is supposedly the lone "hit" song on this album, but I can't remember ever hearing this song on the radio. The song I like best is track 10, "Send It". It is as good as almost anything I've ever heard by ELO. It may not sound like older ELO tunes (it has some brief segments that remind me of Thomas Dolby's "Flying North") but at least "Balance of Power" shows that Jeff wasn't trying to milk the ELO "formula" ad nauseum. ELO devotees will certainly hear segments throughout "Balance of Power" that are reminiscent of the earlier LP's, but Jeff and company make an effort with this album to cover new ground by adding saxophone accompaniment into the mix. In my case, I saw no compelling reason to purchase this album and only recently acquired it. However, as a completist, I would always wonder what I would have been missing if I never purchased "Balance of Power". If initially you find "Balance of Power" a difficult listen, try loading the disc into a 10 disc changer along with the earlier ELO CDs. Set the playback mode to shuffle, and then you may find yourself growing oddly appreciative of the 10 songs found here.

4 out of 5 stars Out of the Box.......2006-09-11

This is the last ELO album, for all intents and purposes. And it's missing several things:

It's missing, most notably, the strings. Every reviewer can and will comment on the lack of even a Time-style synthesized orchestra.

Also missing is Kelly Groucutt, which people will tell you because they want to feel intelligent.

But the major draw for me, and others, i imagine, is the pervasive sadness that is felt, from one song to the next. Not the tired feeling of someone who doesn't care anymore, but the depressing end to a fifteen-year career with largely the same group of people. Jeff sounds completely down throughout the album, trying to put his best face forward. It's sad, it's beautiful, and, with the ambiently blue songs throughout, it's nice to have a bit of the perky, pseudo-campy ELO back at the end with 'Send It' -- a fitting way to say goodbye.

4 out of 5 stars Don't knock it Just Because it was the 80's.......2006-06-09

The tendency is for people to knock albums just because it was the 80's. It's very trendy and politically correct to knock the 80's just because it was the 80's..

This album has superbly crafted pop/rock songs. The single, "calling america", was actually one of the weaker songs in my opinion, and with it being the single I believe it damaged some the chances of the album being a "hit".

Interesting title though. Jeff Lynne definitely is a control freak. I think it's best when he writes and has other musicians help fill things out. On the last album "zoom", he played almost everything and it felt a little stale.

With "balance of power", it doesn't feel stale. It feels like ELO.

3 out of 5 stars Heirs to Some Biggies.......2006-10-29

The instrumentation and internal band dynamic is obviously different, but this band came out of the blues as The Rolling Stones did. The guitarists are cleaner and less imaginative than in the Stones' early work, bandstand and studio equipment have improved and savvy players know the world's tired of covers as straight out of Chicago blues as those of young Mick and the boys, but the resultant feeling's quite similar. It leads to respect for Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and T-Bone Walker and some feeling that The Miller Brothers are their heirs

Heathen Machine has received rave reviews in the European press, including Album Of The Month in German metal bible Rock Hard and a rating of 11 out of 12 points in leading European metal magazine Heavy Oder Was?! BALANCE OF POWER's excellent musicianship, extraordinary vocals and great song writing on Heathen Machine has been compared to QUEENSRYCHE's masterpiece, Operation Mindcrime. Among the accolades the band has recently received include being placed on the cover of leading prog/power metal publication Power Packer Zine, a front page feature story on the highly regarded Canadian web zine metallian.com, as well as a stellar review and rating of 8.5/10 points in the top Brazilian metal publication, Roadie Crew magazine. Metal Core zine might have stated it best when they said that "Heathen Machine" was "the best CD I have heard in the last 3 years, bar none."

**** - FOUR STARS
=================

This is a very impressive release. It's powerful, and very melodic in nature. This band almost sounds like a mixture of Queensryche / Maiden. I enjoyed every minute of "Heathen Machine". I'm just angry that I never bought it sooner.

IMPRESSIVE METAL. ALL METAL FANS BUY THIS....

4 out of 5 stars A New Balance of Power.......2005-11-26

I like Sym X, TNT, anything by DC Cooper, anything by Toni Harnell (westworld, starbreaker), anything by Jorn Lande, and I like this album. I have the previous BOP albums with Lance King and like them very much. This album took a few turns to grow on me (it's a little dark) but after some time I found it great. The front and middle of this project is awesome while it dwindles a little on the back half. Let me tell you though, tracks 1, 4,and 5 are the best I have heard ever since Savatage's ... album is escaping me right now... oh.. Power of the Night album (crack my cranium and stuck on you stuff). The production is not as clean as on previous albums, but BOP has clearly straight lined their line up and come up with awesome potential. Maybe next time they'll select a happier subject for their album... I hope so.

5 out of 5 stars Some Great Melodic Metal.......2005-09-11

Honestly, take away the first two songs and you've got a solid five star album. Not that the first two tracks are bad. They're probably 4 stars. Balance of Power has always been good, especially on Perfect Balance but this album is unbelievable. Heathen Machine is a little less Power and a little more straight Melodic Metal than previous releases and that's all to the better. There's enough good Power Metal bands around and we could always use more good Melodic Metal bands and Balance of Power is developing into one of the best.

Balance of Power has a new singer named John something or other, who on a couple tracks, reminds me of, don't laugh, Queensryche's Geoff Tate.

If you like good heavy and melodic metal, dn't hesitate, pick this jewel up. You won't be sorry.

3 out of 5 stars Heathen Machine Of Power Metal.......2005-04-03

4.5 stars from Power M. Fan.
First off Lance King is gone. The new singer though carries this album well and of course the production is high quality so the change works. Much more of a Queensryche style vocalist, which, in my opinion, is a good thing. Although there has always been that comparison this New singer is even more Geoff Tateian. No other real changes are readily noticeable; B Of P is consistent, great metal. A little Progressive, a lot of straight Power metal and a classic fusion of the two. Very much worth owning. Addendum added july 16. This album has really grown on me so I upped the rating.

5 out of 5 stars First 4 on 2 CD's!.......2006-02-16

Thsi is Saint's first 4 albums on 2 CD's! Remastered and repackaged! Has nice liner notes, lots of photos of the band and THE MUSIC! Saint is a Christian Metal band from the 80's. They sound a lot like Judas Priest but have a Christian message. "Warriors Of The Son", the debut is here. Originally released in 1984, it has a raw, unpolished sound (not a bad thing). They were not yet on a wel-known label. COntains the original 6 tracks.

Their second release, Time's End, from 1986 is a huge improvement over the debut. Released on "Pure Metal" records, kicks off with "In The Night". Lots of heavy hitters here, this one is more polished and more professional that the WOS release.

Dsic two starts with the last Pure Metal release, "Too Late For Living". This one is even more polished that "Time's End" and has some slick production. Kind of reminds me of "Turbo" from Priest, but this is better than "Turbo". Contains the title track and "Star Pilot". Dee Harrington makes his shredding debut on guitars.

The 4th album is the independant release "Perfect Life". Josh Kramer is replaced on vocals by Tim Lamberson. Tim is good but it just ins't the same. This was originally released in 1999, ten years after the last album. Another down-fall is the lack of a drummer. They use a machine.

Overall, a great release from this Christian metal band. These albums have been hard to find forquite some time and are now avaiable.

Fast forward to 2006 -- Josh Kramer is BACK and they have re-recorded "Warriors Of The Son" with bonus tracks, released a new album "In The Battle" and "Saint Live" came out in Dec, 2005. For more info, google Saint and visit their site.

      5 out of 5 stars A miracle creator!.......2000-06-30

I highly recommend this CD to anyone who is remotely receptive to healing solutions other than traditional medicine. In my case the visualizations on this CD completely turned around a failing IVF cycle. In my case the doctor was ready to cancel after 5 days. I started using the CD and the tests that are used to measure progress totally turned around. We thought that we would get 7-8 viable eggs. We got 15 instead, 13 of them fertilized and 4 made it to the blastocyst stage. For a 40+ woman of "advanced maternal age" these results were truly exceptional.

While this description may be rather technical for those not dealing with infertility themselves, I wanted to share these numbers for a reason. I think it proves that the connection between body and mind is truly powerful and mystical. Jo-Jo's music and Mary's guided visualizations allowed me to make hope and desire into reality. If you want to be healed you need to try this CD.

      5 out of 5 stars A Gift of Relaxation.......2000-06-08

What a gift for mothers to have this exceptional CD lovingly created by Mary and Jo-Jo to assist busy mothers in relaxing and refueling their creative processes. Mary's calm, reassuring voice set to Jo-Jo's inspirational, soothing cello makes this an indispensable tool for every mother in her challenging adventure.

      5 out of 5 stars one of a kind.......2000-06-07

This CD is uniquely relaxing. I don't know of others out there that are like this. I have difficulty meditating, but the meditation on this CD along with the cello playing music, quite literally, carry me away from my busy world and help me focus on simply being - something that a mom of a 2 year old really needs.
