Not Bad But Kind of Generic.......2006-11-16

I've always had a fascination for Grim Reaper. The imagery and album art alone was enough to attract me to their third album. But more on that later.

This is a combination of their first two albums and I'll have to admit, their best two. The songs are okay with a few memorable tracks, but they are definitely cliché ridden and generic. Steve Grimmet's vocals are okay when he doesn't get into those long annoying high pitched wails. I can't say a thing about Nick Bowcott's guitar playing as it rocks. However, I kind of wish he would have done more jamming and solos.

I also have their third album and after listening to it several times, I could not remember a thing about it. At least I can remember a few songs off this CD!

Overall, this is not bad stuff, it just does not blow me away and will probably not blow most of you away either. Beavis and Butthead hated them but I like them well enough that I will not bury this CD and forget about it. It is a double dose of generic clichéd rock, but who cares? You could do a lot worse. Recommended.

See You In Hell My Friends.......2006-01-03

Grim Reaper are known for campy horror lyric, a singer who could scream so only Rob Halford's dog could hear, and repetitious lyrics. People complain about those qualities, but thats what makes them so great. This disc contains their first two albums, so its a bargain already. Now if you make those two albums a great blitz of heavy metal, that even better. Even though these song rock, they all have the same standout feature: the excellent guitar work of Nick Bowcott. Bowcott could shred like no one's business. Every song on here rocks. My personal favorites are "Wrath of the Ripper", "Fear No Evil", and the infamous "See You In Hell". I recommend this for any 80s metal fan, and especially fans of Judas Priest. If you like these albums, I suggest you pick up their third and last album, Rock You To Hell.

A good bargaining..........2005-02-18

Well, for almost the price of one CD you can get the two best Grim Reaper albums (they recorded only three), and since "ROCK YOU TO HELL" is no big deal, you will possess everything tha matters from this band in a single CD. A good deal.

Although Grim Reaper has a muscular and visceral sound, and its guitarrist and founding member Nick Bowcott is a talented axe man, you can not be fooled by all the five stars reviews here. Nostalgy is a strong influence over people's tastes... In these days of fabricated and talentless "artists" like Beyonce, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girl, Britney Spears, anything from the past that has a solid rocking performance tend to be viewed like a mega banda. Grim Reaper was a very competent band, buch too much limited in their own style. That's why they succumbed.

These guys may be a part of that fabled NWOBHM, but don't be fooled! This is fat-man rock all the way, slavishly derivative of Judas Priest but with mega annoying lead vocals thrown in just to make things more bowel-distressing! There should be a law against this type of aural effrontery! Straight into a loaded toilet with this one!

the best of both worlds.......2003-02-07

grim reaper's best two albums all on once cd...how they id it i'll never figure out...theres a reason they didnt combine their 3rd and final album with fear no evil or see you in hell...because it [was bad]]! the title track was all it had going for it...these two however, are classic...see you in hell's production sounds slightly muffled but if can get past that, and you will,you'll hear and appreciate what awaits your metallic eardrums...my favorite tracks are "see you in hell", "fear no evil"," matter of time", "never coming back","liar","wrath of the ripper","final scream","r&r tonight",and the ballad "the show must go on"...you're obviously familiar with grim reaper or you wouldnt be bothering reading this review, so what are you waiting for? this kicks major maximus, so order a copy before they disappear!

Slaughter's hardest album.......2005-01-08

As 1989 became 1990, new music arrived from new bands and old bands, and Slaughter proved to be one of the most popular bands of the early 90's. At the beginning of their career, they were #1 on Dial MTV, and even though their second album, "The Wild Life" was a top ten album and featured "Real Love", a hit song/video which, in the music video, featured Shannon Doherty, a then famous actress, it failed to live up to the band's expectations that their first album, "Stick It To Ya" had made for them. Their third abum, "Fear No Evil" is not the best Slaughter album, but it is Slaughter's hardest album-ever. Track one, "Live Like There's No Tommorow" is one of the hardest rock songs I have ever heard, and at the beginning of the song, you hear police officers speaking as dialogue on the song, and for sound effects, you hear both sirens on police cars and police helicoptors. One ballad on here, "It'll Be Alright" is very pretty and sounds a lot like The Beatles, and while you can tell that "Yesterday's Gone" is also Beatles influenced, the song could have been better. The only disappointment on this album. My personal favorite ballad on this album is "Searchin'", and I will never know why this song was never a hit. Both the song and the video are very good. Another good track on this album is "Hard Times", a song which is a step-up from Slaughter's lighter material, and at the beginning of this song, there are replay clips of a bunch of old horror movies, Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream Speech", Richard Nixon's "I Shall Resign From The Presidency Affective At Noon Tommorow" speech, and a few other things. Here we also have Slaughter's "real" blues song, "Breakdown N' Cry". If you think Aerosmith's blues work sounds good, you should hear Slaughter's blues song. At first it is hard to like, but it grows on you after a few times. Other Blues artists out there should be jealous by the fact that they didn't write this song. There will probably be some people who won't like "Fear No Evil" because of the fact that it is dark, unlike the lighter Slaughter albums. But if you like Slaughter, and you are willing to give new things a try, you should give this album a listen.

Maybe the best of Slaughter.......2004-10-19

This cd is loaded with a bunch of really good tracks. The best part is that there is veriety here, unlike the rest of their stuff. This was always a talented band from day one, but never one to spark a ganre of music. These guys are pure rock. There is a reason that they made it past the early 90's unlike so many of their contemperies. From the opening Live Like There's No Tomorrow, to the bluesy Breakdown n' Cry, to the best Slaughter song of all time (Unknown Destination) Give me the Fear No Evil Album and I'll be happy

Could have been better, but still good.......2003-12-24

This CD finds Slaughter darkening and intensifying their sound for the first time since the "lighter" albums like STICK IT TO YA and WILD LIFE. Although it doesn't come off as strong or as catchy as later release beyond this point, it still shows us the band is headed in the right direction.

There are many great songs on here, including some of the instruments, but there is one instrumental here too many, for my taste anyway. "For Your Dreams" would have been nice if Mark was singing on it and it had one of their patented big choruses mixed in.

It takes a few listens to get into this one, but there are some pretty cool moments on this album. The heaviest song of their career so far is the opening firestarter "Live Like There's No Tomorrow" with its police bulletin opening, thats a cool new trick. Also on "Get Used To It" the band literally gives grunge and alternative the middle finger. These two tracks are prime examples that when they want to, Slaughter can display both power and attitude.

This album proves they are more than just pop-metal posers, and the ballads here are much more honest and real on FEAR NO EVIL than on previous, or even future releases, for the most part. "It'll Be Alright", the instrumental "Prelude", and "Breakdown N' Cry" are prefect examples of thier ever present pop appeal, which there is no shame in having because that what can truly make a band great. It can't all be DIE DIE DIE heavy.

Overall, its not as consistent as REVOLUTION or the aforementioned early 90s releases, but it's the band starting into to new territory, thier first attempt and it proves they are on the right track. Other tracks to note are "Hard Times", the forgotten "Unknown Destination" and "Searchin" are all great classic Slaughter, you just have to dig a little deeper on this release, if you are used to the lighter 1990-1992 work.

The only lackluster tracks other than "For Your Dreams" are an almost good but not quite other ballad "Yesterday's Gone" and a cookie-cutter "Let The Good Times Roll", which comes off very corny and is more suited for Steelheart or Poison of the 80s (and 2002), bands with less talent and charisma.

Pick this one up to complete your Slaughter collection, its so much more than just filler. Money well, well spent. 9/12

always a slaughter fan.......2003-07-21

This cd is full of great tracks, although it didnt get any airplay. reguardless what some people may say about them currently, they are true to themselves and their fans, and their real fans will always be true to them. This is a great album for anyone who enjoys music on the positive side of things, music you can enjoy and relate to. I recommend all their albums especially their latest studio album BACK TO REALITY!

Very underrated album...............2003-01-24

After their last album ("The Wild Life") and the changing music scene, most bands like Slaughter just faded away. But this album proves they were going nowhere. While this is better than "The Wild Life", it's not up to the standards "Stick It To Ya" set. "Fear No Evil" reminds me of Firehouse's third album: It has around 5-6 REALLY good songs, and they rest is filler. "Breakdown 'N' Cry" & "Searchin'" are songs that could've been SOOO much better. They are very disappointing. On to the good, as there is much more of that......"Like There's No Tomorrow", "Get Used To It", & "Let The Good Times Roll" are just good rockers. "It'll Be Alright" is the best cut here, in my opinion. It's a great ballad, but doesn't get too sappy. "Hard Times" & "Yesterday's Gone" are the next best ones. Give them a listen. You will instantly love Slaughter again. I highly recommend this CD. You just might be skipping over a few songs, though.

Fear No Evil is where the band really hit its stride and nailed an identity. See You in Hell was hit and miss and Rock You to Hell, while it was great in some ways, was a let down (singing about politics?) FNE was have a good time heavy metal!

An underrated metal maelstrom.......2005-07-16

If this album would have gotten as much radio sponsorship as Ozzy or Metalli-can't they would have been superstars, I think. No real weak tracks, a definitive 80's metal album at it's best. Every song has something unique, either a real eye-opening solo or riff or both or something else to do with drums. Funny metal lyrics too, like what you'd expect from Judas Priest. Color/texture changes from song to song and within a song itself. You're caught off guard just when you anticipate what's going to happen next. This one's perfect for the loudspeakers.

grim reaper at their best.......2003-02-07

I have heard all three of their releases and I must say that this is their best one..."Fear No Evil"...If their first album "See You In Hell" had a clearer more crisp sound and production,then I would say it, but Grim Reaper comes through on "Fear No Evil" with better production and clarity...the title track is the opener and it sets the tone for the onslaught of metal that awaits your unsuspecting ears...the second track "never coming back" is great...one of the better ones they ever recorded imho...the third song lord of darkness is good but i could do without it...did nothing for me...the fourth song "matter of time" the same...fifth "r@r tonight" catches you offguard at first listen due to its change of pace...another winner! sixth,seventh,and eighth songs are good too but again dont do anything for me as far as anything memorable...but the last song "final scream" is classic...overall the vocalist can kinda get on your nerves ie: similar to the way ozzy's does...so,take and listen in moderation...and forget any videos youve ever seen of them...you'll appreciate the music much more if you do so...some bands were just not destined for the mtv screen...way too ugly for television!

The Best Rapper Brings It Again!!!!.......2005-11-22

I am honored to be the first to review this album though it makes me wonder what the homies are doing in Houston. K-Rino is a 10 years + veteran in the Hip Hop world and during his extensive campaign his lyricism, content and intensity has never lacked. He Battles, Uplifts, Destroys, and Creates. Trust me on this purchase. He is like the true mcs of old and I am STRESS TRUE MCS!! And he keeps at it for decades without the promise of great financial rewards and my greatest aspiration would be to do a whole album with this man DSMC. Buy this CD and test it to see what I mean. This man taught us how to rap in Houston. Disregard FLip and Slim and Paul. This is like where it all began.

I was at Music Depot in Greenspoint Mall for my book signing event this weekend and I browsed the shelves as I was waiting for the start time to come around. I saw K-Rino's name and saw the familiar black binder and knew it was none other than my old classmate. Always glad to support people I know who are trying to do big things...I bought it. I went to listen to it and was impressed with the quality...though I am not the biggest gangsta rap fan in the world. Keep it up, K-Rino!! Holla at your girl!
