5 out of 5 stars Brilliant.......2007-02-11

I purchased this album back in 1995,and it's been one on my most cherished ever since. Tastes change with time, yet there's enough here to keep me listening 12 years after it first resonated. There's very few albums that manage that, even nine inch nails seem stale now.

Buy this.

5 out of 5 stars Old school.......2006-11-30

Wow I kinda accidentally stumbled upon this cd here on amazon. I had this when I was 15 and am now 25 and remember how much I used to listen to this cd. Sounds alot like NIN and Pig but seemed foreign. I don't know much about the band but for a pretty much 'unknown' the production was great and I guess perhaps Reznor gave some effort to that. For what it was I give it a 5 star rating just because some of the songs were really well made and memorable. Ones I remember most were Tough, Other People, Riverhead, Animal, No Fair Fights... hope you like it :)

5 out of 5 stars I bought this album when it first came out.......2006-03-07

Ok...I am old school and bought this album when it was FRESH...dude it was on TAPE!!! This album always scored points with those who knew less...but NIN fans and fans of what industrial became because of TrentReznor enjoy --- and pop will eat itself and Glu...and all the rest that followed...an obscure jem.

2 out of 5 stars Prick - self-titled (Nothing/Interscope) 2 1/2 stars.......2005-12-31

This was Prick's first of just two releases,as I barely remember hearing about how this band was support act for the Nine Inch Nail's 'Downward Spiral' second leg of the U.S. tour.Prick was, basically one member-guitarist,vocalist&songwriter Kevin McMahon.Nothing to get too thrilled about,it's so-so industrial metal.A couple of the disc's decent cuts are "No Fair Fights","I Got It Bad" and "I Apologise".Just MIGHT appeal to some fans of God Lives Underwater,Gravity Kills and Stabbing Westward.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2005-11-01

I have not listened to anything people consider "industrial" since high school. while this album certainly has a heavy sound to it, it is much more of an indispensable pop/rock album than anything simply industrial. the composition of the songs and vocals make it something really unique and special. I've had the album for years and it never seems to leave my cd player for long. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in something different from mainstream.
crippled by a lack of air time, prick seemed to disappear until 02' when a follow up was released exclusively on luckypierremusic com. the follow up, the wreakard, has some great songs on it but is also hindered by a couple that get so rough the melodies are lost. Kevins other band, lucky pierre, also has an album for sale on the site. it is a virtually flawless pop rock album that one can't help but wonder if it was released in Pricks place perhaps things would have turned out differently. I can't recommend any of his albums highly enough. Lets hope there's more on the way.

If you really, really, really love the Melvins; if you think that every one of their solo albums is brilliant; if you can listen to the entirety of the Ozma/Gluey Porch Treatments CD without a pause--then you will understand and appreciate this record. If you think that Houdini was their first record and an "intense" heavy metal album, don't waste your money on this--you won't "get it." Sorry to be such a, well, you know.... --Adem Tepedelen

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS ALBUM!!!.......2004-04-12

if you can obtain it some other way do so, but DO NOT pay money for it. it's just a bunch of noises in the studio. i love the Melvins, but this is one of the worst things i have ever heard.

4 out of 5 stars this is an inventive album thats worth your time.........2003-11-04

im not all that familiar with the melvins but a friend of mine recommended them to be when i was living in montreal for a period of time (i'd like to hear his opinion on the track 'montreal') i liked what id heard but didnt know where to start. personally im not into metal but fortunetly for me i am very interested in experimental/free noise stuff, this is what this album is...dont get me wrong there are some great musical moments ... my favorite track being the amazing yet simple 'Punch The Lion' where the track consists of some distant church bells and some street cheering like youd hear when a parade or festival was taking up the main streets but the great thing about it is they turn these sounds into an actual song by adding a steady drum line in front of it..good stuff. as far as the rest of it goes i like it as a background type cd , i find otherwise its a bit tough to keep interested in some of the more painful tracks

5 out of 5 stars the first 50 listens will bring one word to mind--TERRIBLE.........2003-02-11

....but after that, you're damned if anything but in love with this album. I considered myself a die-hard fan when I bought "Prick." The first time I listened to it all I could think was "What the F? I spent 15 bucks on THIS?" After only a few days, even the tracks that fell into the category of music--mind you, GOOD music (RICKETS, CHALK PEOPLE, LARRY), couldn't save this album from the garbage bin. Something that should help with understanding this album is that it's like M were trying to put on a CD what might inspire their lyrics or music. The whole thing is like a person walked around Seattle with a running tape recorder in his pocket:

HOW ABOUT - barely music; just a tape of an evangelist preaching about how he was "saved" from a life of sin by the Bible, which halfway through changes to an interview with a Southerner who had the fortune of seeing Elvis Presley (now that I write this, I wonder if M were trying to form some connection between the two scenarios), with a few riffs here & there. 3/5
MONTREAL - Ugh, what a waste of a track. It's either what goes on before or after a live song; just people whistling and cheering, while faint feedback & a few flam notes are hit on a drum. 2/5
CHIEF TEN BEERS - Interesting and catchy, Indian dialect dubbed over some weird banjo/rock music. 3/5
UNDERGROUND - A guy walks around a subway system with a running tape recorder in his pocket; you mainly get a listen to subway performers playing. 3/5
LARRY - Instrumental; one that people who like music will enjoy 5/5
CHALK PEOPLE - Dark rock with a cool title, and heavy floor tom drumming. I don't understand what buzzo is saying (stop rock set away?) 5/5
RICKETS - A song early Korn fans should like because when I first heard it accidently, I thought my brother'd left his Korn CD in my CD player. 4/5

The reason I gave this CD 5 stars is because it's a very ballsy effort. Only the extremely open-minded of M fans will give this CD a chance. Almost every track (except for "PURE DIGITAL SILENCE," which is just that) has something remotely related to music - mostly buried in the background, but thats what makes those tracks kinda fun & catchy. You've been warned.

    5 out of 5 stars God's Of Rock.......2002-10-22

The Melvins may be the best band ever, and this further solidify's it.

They released the most commercial album of the career (1993's Houdini), and followed up with this beauty.

Many people would dare call this an album filled with junk, but, its not. Its a concept album, about ... people off. And boy, the concept worked. Even the most hardcore of melvins fans ... on this masterpiece.

You probably won't find it for sale anywhere's, and if you do, buy it and sell it to some melvins fan. or keep it. your choice live is a good album.

    4 out of 5 stars Prick?.......1999-08-28

Well is one very odd little record. It is basically dicking around in the studio. A bunch of comical little songs with the exception of Rickets and Larry both of which are great songs. The ablum gets a four because the Melvins do what they want when they want and I think that garners a fairly good rating. Although most of the tracks are not exactly songs it still is a must for any Melvins diehard.
