This album will crush your skull!.......2007-05-09
And to top it off, this cacophony of doomcore is a power trio of burnouts from England.
Top notch, if you dig the heavy, cop this album immediately if not sooner.
Also, import seems to have an extra track at the end, bonus!

sooooo....hhhhheeeeeeeaaaaaavvvvvyyyyyyyyyy.......2007-07-05
Things start off with the incredibly short (by Electric Wizard standards, that is) "Vinum Sabbathi". Actually a pretty decent song, but only a taste of what's to come. After it wraps up, the ensuing feedback segues right into the epic behemoth of a song that is "Funeralopolis", whose drawn out intro is accentuated by the sound of a gurgling bong in the background, and may very well be the most Sabbathian moment on the album, save for the quick jam "The Hills Have Eyes". However, once the floodgates open and the band unleashes with full brain-melting force, you will be left with little recourse aside from letting your mouth hang open in dumb awe until the album finishes with the mammoth musical apocalypse that is the title track.
"Dopethrone" is easily the best entry into the Wizard catalog so far. The first, self-titled album is little more than Cathedral and Sabbath homage, although done very well; it's their most "fun" album, if that word applies. "Come My Fanatics" took things up (or should I say down?) a few thousand notches, and is a vile sludge masterpiece to this day; "Return Trip" must be heard to be believed. But "Dopethrone" is something special. The clean production might put some off, but I think it is needed to truly convey the universe-collapsing heaviness that only Electric Wizard can pull off. As far as the "doom" (whatever that has come to mean) genre goes, this stands as one of the all-time classics, standing atop the metal mountain alongside Sleep's "Dopesmoker", Saint Vitus' "Born Too Late", and the first four Sabbath albums; sonically, it exceeds all in pure low-frequency fuzz-drenched heaviness. If you are a newcomer to the "stoner metal" thing--modified hipster who just heard Mastodon last week and traded in his skin-tight Poison The Well shirt for a slightly-more-comfortable High On Fire one, I'm lookin' at you, bub--get your hands on this monolith and let class begin. This is as real as it gets.

New extremely heavy 2000 album!Customer Reviews:
Pure Fuzzy Fun.......2006-10-15
To put this album in a little bit of context, Electric Wizard established themselves as a class doom/stoner act with their s/t debut which showed signs of later writing, and their monolithic tour de force of fuzzy riffs, "Come My Fanatics". "Dopethrone" sees the band continue the vast songwriting, huge juicy riffs and enough low-end to do some serious ear damage. Arguably their career highlight, this is sure to give you a thrill if you're into this sort of thing, and for those new to the genre, be prepared for a big, bludgeoning ride of juicy fun.
"Dopethrone" also marks Jus Oborn's introduction to the distorted, `behind the mix' vocal effect, which I initially questioned, but have grown to love. The result puts far more emphasis on the riffs and also gives a new abrasive, almost gritty vibe that the previous albums lacked. The style is best highlighted in the brooding I, The Witchfinder, with Oborn's verse delivery truly eerie and desolate. Perhaps the highlight to the album is Funeralopolis, simply one of EW's best opening riffs, incorporated perfectly in a two-section structure that sees another absolutely killer riff rampage for the closing minutes. A real adrenaline rush, ended perfectly by an exhausted, panting, simple exhortation of `f*ck' from Jus. It works, it really does.
Other standout tracks include the monumental Weird Tales, clocking in at over 15 minutes, the song glides through everything one could adore about EW - big riffs, tempo changes, psychedelic atmospherics and of alternative lyrics inspired by science fiction and, well, `weird tales'.
"Dopethrone" is quite simply a landmark in the doom genre, it is what every band should aim for - sumptuous riffs, psychedelic moments, interesting song structures and a complete lack of pretence, something I admire in EW. This album is not solely for doom fans as I stated earlier, if you're a fan of a good heavy slab of rocking fun, it would be a mistake to overlook this.
Colossal fusion of stoned riffing and pure white noise.......2001-06-17
Best doom record since Cathedral's "Forest of Equilibrium".......2001-01-10
