Love it........2007-04-27

I own all the Nelson CDs and have to admit that I love them all - I guess I'm just a Nelson fan. Sue me.

This is just a wonderful CD with the Nelson harmonies at their absolute best.

Try these on for size: THE GREAT ESCAPE (slow and romantic); CROSS MY BROKEN HEART (a love-gone-wrong-but-I-won't-admit-I-miss-you song); PEACE ON EARTH (truly romantic); and RIGHT BEFORE YOUR EYES (a romantic song about unknowingly having the love of your life right in front of you - and not knowing it).

Get this CD while it's available - I believe it's out of print.

Not as bright and exuberant as their first album..........2006-03-09

...but it's pretty good nonetheless. People who know them best for "(Can't Live With Your) Love and Affection" will find this album extremely different. The songs seem more personal, the lyrics subdued. It might disappoint a few listeners, but for those who love Nelson, it would be an interesting surprise to hear that they've got different musical styles.

COMPLETELY UNDERRATED!.......2004-09-14

This is probably one of the most underrated CDs I own, not to mention one of the most underrated bands of all time. I purchased this album soon after it's original release date, and was thoroughly pleased. And it has continued to be one of my favorites. Very catchy melodies (who would expect less from Nelson?), as well as great lyrics and harmonies. Probably the best track is the final one, "Nobody Wins In The End" which obviously shows some Queen influence. When I first played this for my husband, he was very impressed. And note that the song "Five O'Clock Plane" is exactly 5 minutes long :) Two thumbs way up!!!

I purchased this album at a hard time in my life, when I had to take decisions that would eventually change the entire course of my live. "Because They Can", filled with positive strong phrases inspires the listeners to get in touch with their inner souls. In my particular case, it helped me stay focused on my priorities and pursue my dreams. With this Album, the Nelsons proved that they have a lot more to offer than just their looks. They have a true inherent talent.

After the success of "After the Rain," the band had...let's just say....difficulties in the release of their second album. Finally after a five-year wait, this is what emerged. And let me just say the wait was worth it. As much as I love their first album, this album is ten times better. Much more was put into this disc than the first, I find. From the opening chords of the album, you can't help but be hooked. This album is sure to please a music fan of every taste. It was ballads ("Love Me Today"), instrumentals ("Remi") and up-beat melodic rock ("The Great Escape.") Ever since I picked up the disc, I've been in awe. The emotion that pours forth from the music is so pure, and will no doubt please fans of soft-core country to even some hard-core pop fans and just about anybody who's a fan of good old pop-rock in general.

Composer, conductor, arranger Frank DeVol scored more than fifty movies and is best known as the composer for the theme songs for the TV series 'My Three Sons', 'The Brady Bunch' and 'Family Affair'. In the 1940s DeVol was an arranger for Dinah Shore, Tony Bennett, Rudy Vallee, Vic Damone and Doris Day. Frank DeVol received multiple Emmy Awards and Academy Award nominations for his extensive body of work. Breaking the rules of Punk.......2003-02-01

SO many Punk bands nowadays have fallen into a role. This band is true punk because they rebel from the punk format. Several tracks from their Self release "Burn Religion, Burn" are on here, though it would have been nice to catch other tracks such as "the Road I Cannot Travel" However the other tracks make up for this. I only wish they would tour outside TX.

this band break barriers between punk, hardcore, and whatever you want to call emo. This album flows from track to track with more melody and well written songs than most albums have in their pinky finger. I would recommend this for fans of Grade and Glasseater. Screaming vocals often interlayed with clean vocals and songs ranging from punk to what most would define as post-hardcore. This album is dark overall but some songs shine through with poppy harmonies and guitars but revert back to their old rather dark self. If you're a fan of intelligent music, this is a record for you.

Brahms’ three published sonatas for violin and piano-there were undoubtedly earlier ones that Brahms destroyed-were written over a span of ten years, from 1878 to 1888. Thus all date from his late period, to which the adjective ‘autumnal” has often applied. The calm, richly melodic yet slightly bittersweet character that permeates much of the writing in these works makes that description especially appropriate. Only in the third Sonata (D Minor) does a stormier, more assertive element come to the fore, and then primarily in the final Presto agitato. Throughout all three sonatas Brahms holds the instrumental relationship in superb balance. The G Major Sonata, Op. 78, was written in the immediate wake of Brahms’ Op. 77 Violin Concerto and was premiered in November 1880 by its composer and Joseph Joachim. Two unusual features must be noted. One is the choice of E-flat Major as the key of the slow movement, placing its fervent lyricism in distinct contrast to the surrounding movements. Also, Brahms quotes a portion of his song Regenlied as the main subject of the finale. The song’s nostalgic text (“Awake my childhood dream again / O rain arouse my old songs again”) finds a perfect match in the composer’s treatment of his material; there is even a brief return of the main theme of the second movement. During the summer of 1886, Brahms spent an idyllic period at the villa near lake of Thun in Switzerland. It was there that he composed the A Major Sonata, Op. 100. Like its predecessor, this work consists of three movements. Here, however, Brahms melds the separate functions of slow movement and scherzo into a single unit by altering the Andante tranquillo and Vivace components of the second movement. Two years later Brahms completed his final violin and piano sonata (Op. 108); he and his faithful advocate Joachim then premiered the work in Vienna. Unlike its earlier counterparts, this D Minor sonata of almost symphonic scope-a work clearly intended for the open spaces on the concert hall and not the intimacy of the music room. Brahms dedicated the sonata to Hans von Bulow, the eminent pianist and conductor who had earlier hailed Brahms as “the third ‘B’” alongside Bach and Beethoven. Brahms’ only other surviving work for violin and piano is his Sonatensatz or sonata movement in C Minor, dating from 1853 when the composer was 20. This energetic Scherzo-with-Trio was part of a joint effort by Brahms, Robert Schumann, and the latter’s pupil Albert Dietrich. The three men had assembled a “committee” sonata to serve as a tribute to Joachim upon his arrival in Düsseldorf in October of 1853. Dietrich composed the opening movement while Schumann contributed a slow movement (called “Intermezzo”) and finale. I can recommend the disc of the Brahms Sonatas with violinist Marina Manukian and pianist Bryan Pezzone most highly, to every lover of Brahms, and also especially to students looking for a truly inspiring recording. These recordings are among the most beautiful I have ever heard in every regard - stylistically, technically, and in all aspects of tone, phrasing, atmosphere, balance. One could dare say, a "perfect" recording...
