Good album and a good tour........2007-07-24
I also prefer the Hide Your Heart version on this to the Kiss version. I talked to John Regan (the bass player - and all around nice guy) about how that came about. He said that he had originally played bass on a Bonnie Tyler recording of the song. He later brought it to Ace who liked agreed to record it for the album. They were unaware that Kiss was likewise recording the song for Hot in the Shade. I have always thought that Ace's New York accent "sold' the story telling song.
The tour was excellent and Ace was in good and sober form. (A little cranky back stage, but that's a whole different story)
Best Ace Frehley album since his 1978 Masterpiece........2006-01-16
1.Shot Full of Rock-Fast,Raw,EXCELLENT.
2.Do Ya-the ELO cover,Ace of course makes it better.Rockin, catchy one of the better songs on Trouble Walkin
3.Five Card Stud-great guitar work
4.Hide Your Heart-a cover of the KISS' version from the Hot in The Shade album.Ace of course makes this song work. Ive recently listend to Paul Stanleys vocals on the original and there is absolutley NO power.
5.Lost In Limbo-another great track
6.Trouble Walkin-Sadly, one of the weaker songs.
7.2 Young 2 Die-Peter Criss and Ace Frehley both sing this one.
Peter Criss' vocals are the best since Black Diamond.
8.Back To School-Sebastian Bach and Ace Frehley share vocal duties here.
9.Remember Me-an AC/DC style presentation, you'll find yourself singing this one over and over again.
10.Fractured III-Just as flawless as Frehleys "Fractured" and "Fractured Too"

Ace does it again........2006-01-08
As I've said in some KISS reviews, the charm of Ace's songs is that he has very laid back vocals, with simple lyrics and very good guitar. There's no shortage of this on 1989's Trouble Walkin'. Ace delivers the goods to his fans in spades..heh heh the Ace of Spades...okay, forget that joke...
The album is rocking from beginnning to end, and it starts with "Shot Full Of Rock" a hard rocker in the 80's tradition. Ace then gives us another of his wonderful cover tunes in the old classic "Do Ya". Ace outdoing the original, just as he did with the Stones'"2000 Man" from KISS' Dynasty. "Five Card Stud" is an Ace tune that pumps out heavy guitar. He then covers KISS!!!! "Hide Your Heart" was a minor hit for KISS from their album Hot in the Shade. Ace takes it, changes virtually nothing about it, yet he makes it smoke in a way that KISS didn't. His vocals just swing with his guitar. While the KISS effort has it's own merits with Paul Stanley providing the usual strong vocals, Ace's version just reeks of raw rock! "Lost in Limbo" is an average tune.
What was side two in the old days, opens with an Ace swagger tune, "Trouble Walkin'". Ace lays down the law that he's in control, and to hell with anyone who wants to get in his way. You then get a couple of decent tunes, although they are a little cliche-ed, "2 Young 2 Die" and "Back To School". "Remember Me" is a wonderful Ace blues tune, that is passed off as being "live". It may very well be, although nothing in the liner notes suggests that it is. I can tell you that the audience sounds are definitely NOT live. It sounds like Ace is playing before a stadium crowd...I don't think so. To close out this album, we get the Ace intrumental, "Fractured III". A continuation of the instrumental from his previous solo albums. I normally don't care much for instrumentals, but Ace's "Mirror" tunes are brilliant! He weaves a guitar tapistry over the course of four minutes that cannot be matched!
Overall, this album could be a five-star album, but it does have a few songs that aren't really all-star calliber. Thus it gets a STRONG four star rating.
Ace is the man!
Ace's best!.......2005-10-10
It's a shame for the fans that Ace didn't record more in the 1980's and 1990's. He was the best musical talent in KISS and his solo work proves it.
This album has vocals from ACE and guest vocals from Peter Criss!
Ace's 1989 masterpiece.......2005-09-28
INTRODUCTION:
Ace Frehley. For so very long, this man has been one of the ultimate rock and roll guitarists out there. From his days in KISS as one of their most overlook and underappreciated members right up to his lesser-known solo career, he always made music that was nothing short of excellent. Sadly, his solo career, while it spawned some excellent music, didn't really produce any big hits or gain any true popularity. Following his Frehley's Comet albums, he went back to recording under his own name. Sadly though, the 1989 Trouble Walkin' album didn't do too well commercially. But despite that, how does the music itself fare? To find out, read on!
OVERVIEW:
Trouble Walkin' was released in 1989. The album was produced by Eddie Kramer. Band members on the album include Frehley's long-time collaborators Anton Fig and John Regan. The album features ten tracks.
REVIEW:
It took me a long time to hunt this album down, and with the thing not doing well commercially, I wasn't sure what to expect from it. Well, I discovered one thing really fast - it was worth hunting down. Ace's solo work has never sounded better (except for possible on the 1978 solo album.) All ten tracks on this album are nothing short of excellent. And Ace isn't the only one in his prime here - all of his collaborating musicians fill their roles nicely. As soon as the fast-paced, hard and heavy opening riffs of Shot Full Of Rock kick off the album, you're gonna wonder why this album didn't fare better popularity-wise. Another noteworthy track is Do Ya. This is a cover of the old Move/Electric Light Orchestra cut, and a surprisingly good one. I didn't think Frehley's style would be compatible all that well with an E.L.O. cut, but my doubts were shattered when I listened to it! Ace manages to do the song in his own style, while at the same time keeping it true to Jeff Lynne's original tune. Hide Your Heart is another masterpiece not to be missed. Here, Ace takes the basic overall stylings of Strutter, the classic tune he did with KISS fifteen years prior, and gives it a total reworking. The end result rocks. The title track, Lost In Limbo, and Five Card Stud are also great hard and heavy power rockers you really must hear to appreciate. The Spaceman even tries his hand at a blues-styled hard rock sound with the strange but still excellent cut, Remember Me. Closing things out is Fractured III, which is the third song in Ace's Fractured instrumental series (Fractured Mirror appeared on Ace's 1978 solo album, and Fractured Too appeared on the 1987 debut from Frehley's Comet.) This installment in the classic instrumental series sounds NOTHING like the two that preceeded it, but it manages to be excellent-sounding nonetheless. Overall, Trouble Walkin' RULES. If you like Ace Frehley, or just hard rock/heavy metal in general, BUY IT.
EDITION NOTES:
This album is, sadly, out of print. Hopefully it will be remastered and reissued someday, but for the time being, it doesn't seem like that is likely to happen anytime soon. Keep your fingers crossed, fellow Ace fans...
OVERALL:
Overall, Ace's 1989 solo album is a masterpiece, and it's a shame the album didn't get more popular or fare better on the charts, because it really is some of his finest work. If you're a fan of his, this album is a must-own. Don't make the mistake so many others have of overlooking this one - if you're a classic metal fan, you'll only hurt yourself be not checking this one out! Final verdict? Five stars. Highly recommended!
