Nevermore

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Nevermore's eight-song debut, although it contains material that bears more than a passing resemblance to that of Queensryche (mostly in the vocals/lyrics), is a strong record. It is semiprogressive and melodic, filled with a dark, moody heaviness that places it comfortably between Metal Church and Sanctuary. There's plenty of crunching guitar work to please the riff rockers and more than enough subtlety and technical virtuosity to satisfy cerebral musicians. The lyrics get a bit cheesy ("Timothy Leary") and the vocals are occasionally a tad overwrought, but within the context of this seething mass of intense power, they are certainly appropriate. --Adem Tepedelen

5 out of 5 stars One of the GREASTEST bands ever!!!!!!!!.......2006-07-02

If you don't like this band then go slap yourself. All the members of this band are great. Alot of bands that people now listen to sound all the same, this is one of the bands that sticks out. People go out and buy all of Nevermore's cds.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Music in a Dead World.......2006-04-23

When I was first getting into metal, this was one of my first 'real metal' CDs I ever bought (i.e. not poppy nu-metal like Korn, Skinlab and ilk.) As such, my review might be a bit biased in favor of Nevermore, but nonetheless, this album rules. I'd argue that either this (or maybe Dreaming Neon Black) is Nevermore's musical apex thus far. And since Nevermore is one of my favorite bands, that this is one of the best metal CDs ever made. And it is with good reason that I say this.

With so many bands vying for attention, there's a lot of unoriginality in music. It's rare for bands to draw from so many influences that their music defies logical classification. Yet Nevermore does just that (Iced Earth is also one of the few to do so.) They brilliantly combine the best of progressive metal, power metal, traditional metal, gothic metal as well as other subgenres. Dead Heart in a Dead World (a.k.a. DHDW) is not only the result of Nevermore 's unique style, but their varied songs as well.

This is the best feature of DHDW. Each song has its own combination of levity, seriousness, darkness, mellowness, heaviness, etc. For instance, the songs 'Evolution 169,' 'Inside Four Walls,' and 'Sound of Silence' all have some degree of levity in their lyrics (if only because one has lyrics from a Simon and Garfunkle song), yet 'Inside Four Walls' also has a degree of political seriousness about it that neither of the other two has.

Likewise, 'Dead Heart in a Dead World,' 'The Heart Collector,' and 'Believe in Nothing' all have a degree of darkness in them, yet 'Dead Heart in a Dead World' has a musical heaviness in it that neither of the other two (which are more ballad-esque) have.

It is hard to overstate the uniqueness of each song. Some songs will make you smile, some will make you think, and others will make you despair. And there is never any point where one has to skip tracks because every song is excellent. All of this while Nevermore performs interestingly original music that, while not always the most technical in metal, is so beautiful that it doesn't even matter.

Unfortunately, Nevermore's followup albums aren't as good because they lack the emotional variance that DHDW has. They are increasingly misanthropic, and while there are traces of that on this album, it is not overdone as it is on the followups. That's not to say they are bad because they're still very good, but it lacks the depth that DHDW and Dreaming Neon Black have.

If you have any appreciation of metal music, you will buy this CD. Then you'll buy Dreaming Neon Black.

4 out of 5 stars The genesis of a metal band.......2006-02-24

This is Nevermore's turn towards concept albums...they established themselves with the first two albums and worked out the small issues that all bands start with and it comes together in this, the beginning of their signature sound. The whole album has a strong push from start to finish. I personally find their album Dreaming Neon Black to be their best to date, lyrically, musically and general feel. They flex some lyrical muscle and show off with the musical pyrotechnics in this album though. I believe in liking a band through and through, and no collection would be complete with only a few of their albums. Seeing them live at Gigantour was also a real treat. They are ever the critics of their own music which means they care about what they put out. The sound tech was pretty bad until someone kicked him halfway through the set...and they admitted it. Few bands will do that, admit that something went wrong. But they pushed through and kicked some serious ass. All in all, get anything with their name on it. The lyrics are deep, the sound is unique (especially for something coming from Seattle) and they seem to be a humble group of musicians.

5 out of 5 stars Friggin amazing.......2005-11-16

God I love Nevermore. They are one of the best bands that formed in the 90's. After having plenty of strong material under its belt before, Nevermore enter the new millennium with their best album yet. Here, you've got soaring vocals from Warrel Dane, great bass from Jim Sheppard, and awesome drumming from Van Williams. Towering over everything, however, is the guitar work of the one and only Jeff Loomis. How good is this album? Read on for the tracks.

1. Narcosynthesis - Very good song. I love the opening riff. "How did it come to this? Narcosynthesis!" 5/5

2. We Disintegrate 5/5

3. Inside Four Walls - The lyrics on this song are exellent. Warrel shows how great his lyrics are. "Inside four walls/Inside four walls my friend/They took away your freedom/and the pigs still preach their lies!"

4. Evolution 169 5/5

5. The River Dragon Has Come - THE bets song on the album! Don't let the clean intro fool you, this is possibly the heaviest song on the album, featuring an amazing 7-string riff. 6/5

6. The Heart Collector 5/5

7. Engines Of Hate - One of the heaviets songs on the album. 5/5

8. The Sound Of Silence - The S&G cover. Better than the original! 6/5

9. Insignificant - The better of the two ballads! 5/5

10. Believe In Nothing - Possibly Nevermore's most well-known song. 5/5

11. Dead Heart In A Dead World - Great closer to this album. 5/5

So, if you're a metalhead, you'll love this.

4 out of 5 stars "They feast on the meat in bittersweet denial".......2007-03-01

4.5 stars. This is a superb rebound after the vicious "Enemies of Reality" with its relentless attack (good) mired in shoddy production (bad). "This Godless Endeavor" is Nevermore's darkest album since their masterpiece "Dreaming Neon Black", though nowhere near as haunting, and it has excellent production throughout. This album is extremely Progressive and interesting many times over. There is one song here that many fans seem to like, "Sentient 6", that I actually thought was boring and a virtual speed-bump in an otherwise stellar release. The only other flaw I felt occurred during the epic title track which is maybe too long for its own good and becomes so Progressive at times as to nearly derail the song completely. But what do I know? Check out the website "The Metal Observer" and you will find four different music critics who wrote reviews and each one gave this album a perfect 10/10! So there you go. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good. But could be better.......2007-02-27

The first time I listened to the album, I was like, what the hell?? but as I listened to it again and again, it sort of started getting better. but come on, these are Nevermore! They can do better!

I was introduced to them when they were called Sanctuary and their album was called Into the mirror black. What an album that was! After 17 years, I still listen to that album with awe. One of my all-time favourites! but since then, all their albums have been mediocre at best. This godless endeavor is no different IMO.

The first song starts off as a "mosh-pit" type song. I can imagine all the fans starting to form a mosh-pit if the band were to play this song live. But then it has a catchy tune to it "Born... we are the same..." This song introduces us to Jeff Loomis' shread guitar-work. His sweeps on the guitar can be heard throughout the album.

The next two songs, I just skip them if I feel like. They are just ok lacking any catchy riffs or lyrics. The song "Bittersweet feast" has a catchy tune to it "This is your final warning..." and provides an excellent intro to what is perhaps my favourite song in the album "Sentient". This song alone is worth buying the entire album! Such meaningful lyrics and song variations; not to mention the guitar-work. Albums and albums by bands like trivium and shadows fall cannot match this one song. This song just shows how much an experienced band that has been in the music industry for almost 2 decades can make if they want to!

The rest of the album after this song just have songs to fill up the time to make a full studio length album. In essence this is a good buy but not something that you will miss listening to after a few weeks. there will be times when you listen to this album repeatedly and dont feel like taking it out of your cd-player. But those moments will pass. Nevermore rock on!

5 out of 5 stars Blew me Away.......2006-12-06

This album hits both with emotion and technicality. The operatic singing parts are not overdone, and it stays in the middle of the road between sinister and sweet. The songs have alot of variation, they pay A LOT of attention to song structure. Main riffs are truly original, and the best part is--the songs don't copy each other. It truly is difficult to pick a favorite song on the album... there's nothing I wanted to skip. They have an original sound, but I think they're most easily compared to Into Eternity, just at a much more middle-of-the-road speed to the songs. (Into eternity is like progressive/melodic death metal/thrash.) These guys however, pull of a technical mastery, without going over the top... I like simplistic riffs, and they get just enough of those mixed with truly great lead/melody writing. (Kind of a mix of what I want and what the band wants, I'm sure.)

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE GREATEST!.......2006-11-25

Yes it's true NEVERMORE are one of the greatest metal bands of all time. And without a doubt one of my favorite groups. This group is awesome. Their album (THIS GODLESS ENDEAVOR) is a MASTER PIECE. This is also one of their greatest albums. Although I have had this album since the day it came out. I'm a little late on this review here. But better late then never. To any metal heads that don't have this album, this album is epic. And an album that is very hard to remove from your cd player. I find myself still putting it back in every few weeks. Even after over a year. And for me to do such a thing after 26 years into metal is amazing. And that only proves one thing to me that this is a great metal album.

4 out of 5 stars Heavy like a really heavy thing.......2006-11-06

Metal.

Nevermore are steeped in it. This band is so metal that they won't line with age, they'll rust. And what a din they create, an aural assault that takes a sturdy heart and iron plated ear drums to digest. The album is a bleak and relentless lesson in metal with a mission. A band with purpose that's for sure and the weighty, bone crushing riffs and non more metal vocals of Warrel Dane are matched by songs with titles such as Medicated Nation and The Holocaust of Thought.

Nevermore have crafted a slabe here that has great musicianship but refrains from being too pretentious. Sure, the solos are individually credited but I'm take that as they guys taking pride in their musicianship rather than them having big heads. Also the songs themselves are not all 8 minute opus' which might be expected. There are a clutch of shorter stompers like 'The Psalm of Lydia' and when the band do pull out a longer tune it's length is totally justified - such as on the title track.

In the final analysis I have to admit defeat here - the brain pounding heaviness is just too much for me, making this album one that very rarely graces my stereo. It's not just the pummeling riffs or Danes great yet very individual vocals (the guy sounds line nobody else I can think of) it's the subject matter that really accentuates the power here. Highly intelligent, fully formed ideas that are singularly depressing, simply battering the listener into a catatonic state of glassy eyed despair. These lyrics come from a planet I can only live on for a short time but those punters with cast iron mental constitutions will lap up this veritable feast of no holds barred metal disintegration.

A beautifully harrowing experience which for me personally scores 2/5 but for it's genre and due to it's qualities (which are undeniable) I've given it 4/5.

5 out of 5 stars A Metal Masterpiece!.......2007-04-29

Nevermore is one of my favorite bands from the 90's...The Guitar, drums, bass and vocals are so powerful, the Dark theme of the CD is the best part, this is Nevermores "Operation Mindcrime" in my opinion. if you love Heavy Metal, Doom, Or Death, you have to put this in your collection!

Highlights are Poison Godmachine, Dreaming Neon Black, Beyond within, Lotus eaters.!

5 out of 5 stars Anything Nevermore is doomed to be perfect...........2007-03-16

...and this is no exception. The album is supposedly a concept album but not in the traditional sense of a story. Instead the songs all have the same thematics based on the loss of a loved one and are said to be Warrel Dane's interpretations of various dreams he had. On to the music part now, Dreaming Neon Black is everything the Nevermore fan expects. Crashing guitars, solid rhythm section and amazing vocals by Warrel. These guys know how to write good music regardless of people calling them power metal or death metal or anything. This is good music nonethless and Dreaming Neon Black is one of the best metal albums out there. Don't hesitate to give it a listen.

5 out of 5 stars "Meet me in the dreamtime water, drown".......2007-02-22

This is far and away my favorite Nevermore release. Easily their darkest album, the mood throughout is one of crushing heaviness. The progressive conception of each and every song is excellently constructed and intelligently conceived. This is the one Nevermore release I can always rely on to give me a Progressive Metal fix. When looking over my own Nevermore catalog my eyes always linger upon this CD before any of the others because I know greatness lies within. Each and every song has a signature riff or devastating chorus even though they all constitute sections of a masterful concept album. Indeed, I dare any Progressive Metal fan to resist the fantastic lead guitar riff on the song "The Fault of the Flesh", the insistent pulse of "Beyond Within", or the darkly mesmerizing chorus of the title track. This album is all-around excellent. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars METAL GOODNESS.......2006-04-14

This is great stuff. Heavy riffs, nice solos, original vocals and smart lyrics. If you like heavy/thrash metal as well as any other style of metal GET IT, if you dont have it yet. Nevermore is amazing band!
Crushing....

2 out of 5 stars Crap.......2006-01-08

Look, I don't get what the hype about this album is. Nevermore can obviously play, as demonstrated by the first song on here. But why did they choose to have the whole album be a mid-paced, boring almost-concept album?

I bought this album because "Deconstrution" was freaking awesome, but I was quickly disappointed when I discovered that it was probably the heaviest song on the album.

Half the songs on here are so slow they're practically ballads, and "The Lotus Eaters" is one of the most irritating metal songs I've heard. I buy an album for great guitars and headbanging, not to listen to the most pathetic, whiny "Please God..." a guy can muster over and over again.

Not the worst I've heard, but this really bores. I simply refuse to buy or listen to any Nevermore albums after this piece of crap.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This album rocks!.......2006-06-05

This is Nevermore's sixth full-length album another peak in the band's rapid ascend in the metal scene. The band is former SANCTUARY members Warrel Dane (vocals), Jeff Looms (guitar) and Jim Sheppard (bass). Throw in drummer Van Williams and you've got Nevermore. At first I didn't think to much about this album but the more I lessened to it the more I liked it. I started to hear all the master qualities that I missed when giving the album a quick once over. If your a Nevermore fan reading this then you might understand where I'm coming from with that last comment. The thing that caught my attention was Jef Looms's solo on I; Voyager and Enemies of Reality is pretty heavy. I think it does metal justice in my opinion. To me its the small things that make an album or a song good. This album may not be there best but it rocks pretty d### good to me.

2 out of 5 stars It had to happen sooner or later..........2005-12-29

If I weren't biased, I would have only given one star.

Every good band does it... sell out. You can hear some of each song in every song on this album. Nevermore's last masterpiece was DEAD HEART, after that...

It's not that the songs are BAD. They're just linear. On DEAD HEART, NM switched gears with each song. This was especially so on their EP IN MEMORY. Each song was a masterpiece you could hang on the wall and admire as an individual work of art.

ENEMIES is a collection that you get the sense of the genius behind it only collectively. None of the songs really stand out on their own merit.

But hey. Awesome band. These aren't guitar-slinging nuts, these are musicians to be reckoned with. Their guitar work is unrivaled and the lyrics aren't just to meat up the sound.

They just didn't dispense with their talent as well as they usually do, that's all.
But that doesn't discredit their value as a legendary band.

2 out of 5 stars What the heck happened to the production?.......2005-11-04

The only reason I'm giving this album a 2 instead of a 1 is because I think under all that muddy noise is some real good music. If I set my EQ just right I can hear something that sounds good. It might just be in my imagination but I can't fault the band completely for a bad production house. But, like the title says, this CD has HORRIBLE, DEPLORABLE, TERRIBLE, SAD, MISERABLE production quality. There are some CD's you buy that sound good on only certain types of stereo equipment. This cd sounds TERRIBLE on all configurations. The only album that I can think of that has just as bad if not worse production quality is "St.Anger" by Metallica, but at least Nevermore's music is still good, so that's the upside. Please Nevermore, if you are reading any of these reviews, I'm almost positive that your songs are awesome. Please produce another CD. We won't think any less of you!!! I just want to hear these awesome tunes. :(

4 out of 5 stars look past the production!.......2005-09-12

I have yet to hear the remixed version, but this is a great cd, except for the song right before the last song, it's not very good. If not for that song, I'd give it a five.
I loved Sanctuary and liked the first Nevermore cd, but never got into them since the first cd.
This cd made me realise that they do indeed rock!
The songs are amazing and hopefully the remix sounds better, but if that didn't exist, I would be more than happy with this version.

4 out of 5 stars Progressive shredfest somehow spoiled by muddy production........2005-08-23

This release is the second album I get from Nevermore. Compared to "This Godless Endeavour" (the other album I got) I think it's a bit more technical, but sadly the production does harm the final result -- yes, I own the original version, not the remastered one. While I love the dark, menacing sound of the rhythm guitar, the muddiness of the mix makes the listening experience not very enjoyable. It's a shame that Kelly Gray, who fairly played guitar for Queensryche, isn't equally good in playing the knobs and gauges for Nevermore. The abuse of voice overdubs (or harmonizers?), the unclear drumming and the overall felling that every instrument bleeds into the other; all that it's far from what I would call a good job. I hope the remastered version fixed all those issues -- I guess I'll purchase it, eventually.

Apart from the production problems, the songs here are very interesting. The first thing that I loved when I played the album was how Jeff Loomis doesn't shy when soloing. This guy is simply amazing, and here I guess he wanted to show his chops offs. So, be prepared to get a generous dose of serious shredding lead guitar.

Back to the songs, well, they don't have many hooks, but they do hit your head really hard. I like the dark melodies showing some modernized Iron Butterfly reminiscences. The lyrics and the arrangements are top-notch. These guys are in the league of Dream Theater and Fates Warning, no doubt about that. My personal highlights are "Never Purify" (that pounding sound, that middle section, and that fast solo!), "Noumenon" (a weird, but great song) and "Seed Awakening" (sometimes thrashy, sometimes menacing, with amazing lyrics and a very progressive feeling). I also like "I, Voyager" (for headbangers' guilty pleasures, with a "bonus" melodic chorus and a flashy guitar solo), "Ambivalent" (GREAT solo too) and "Enemies of Reality" (which contains another amazing solo from Loomis). As you see, I can remember almost every song here, so the pleasure is guaranteed for metal lovers.

To end the review, my main complains are, one, the aforementioned production problems; two, its length (it's way too short!) and three, Warrel Dane certainly is a fair-enough vocalist, but I would like him to showcase a wider range. Anyways, in spite of those (perhaps not so minor) flaws, the musicianship of these guys is so great, the compositions here are so good and the performance of the band is so tight that I don't dare to give to this album less than four stars. So, if you like a heavier variant of progressive rock, this is an album made for your tastes, besides any defect it might have. Go for it NOW!

    5 out of 5 stars Long Live.......2007-01-12

I attended an Iced Earth/Nevermore Show. The "t-shirt vendor"was actually the Bassist signing purchases. I had a million questions about Iced Earth, the "other" band on the roster, and the guy kept pointing to Nevermore releases saying: "THis is the stuff..This is a good band!" But I kept asking Iced Earth questions, and Nevermore's bassist was kind for a bit. Patient. A Little mean to the actual t-shirt vendor who was mean to me. Wonderful. I said I'd listen to Nevermore someday, and had tried to do so before but had come late. I put in this self titled debut from Nevermore and discovered that the most talented and emotive and powerful vocals in years had come out of the mouth of Warrell Dane. The guitarist is by far the best in years in terms of egyptian sounding riffs and guitar action and speed, etc. He was nice when i said he looked like Oz Fox of Stryper! I was apologized for by the Bass player when I had Iced Earth cd's galore in my hands, and the guitarist went to sign my cd's from Nevermore, but I did not have any cd's of his band NeverMore! Long Live! The most creative and diverse..Since..Well their "Dead Heart" cd..(actually came later..)and Amon Amarth "Versus the World." F'n great. And then the Iced Earth guitarist got my attention rudely a bit..Wonder if he wanted to sign my cd's. I did have cancer..

    5 out of 5 stars '' AWESOME '' !.......2004-03-03

OUT OF THE ASHES OF THE GREAT '' SANCTUARY -WHO GAVE US 2 VERY HEAVY AND CLASSIC METAL RELEASES -THEN WAS BORN THE NEW BAND'' NEVERMORE ''..EVERY SONG ON THE ALBUM IS A TESTAMENT TO WHAT GOOD METAL IS AND SHOULD BE.EVEN THOUGH SOME OF THE SONGS CAN BE LONG , THEY ARE WELL WORTH LISTENING TO. WARREL DANE'S VOCALS ARE STILL TRULY AMAZING , AND THE GUITAR WORK MAKES YOUR EARS BLEED!! AT TIMES A BIT MELODIC , BUT IT BLENDS IN WELL WITH THE REST OF THE HEAVINESS OF THE CD.SO IF YOU ARE A FAN OF
'' SANCTUARY ''OR JUST GREAT OLD SCHOOL METAL THEN YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED ONE BIT.I JUST RECENTLY GOT THE LAST 2 RELEASES, AND HOPE THEY ARE JUST AS GOOD-IF NOT BETTER.LET'S HOPE THESE GUYS STAY AROUND FOR AWHILE .METAL WILL NEVER DIE.IT MAY GO AWAY FOR A WHILE, BUT ALWAYS RETURNS STRONGER THAN EVER!!

    5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2003-05-31

An amazing album. Although many people seem to think Dane is lacking on vocal talent, i really don't think he is. His voice may not be the smoothest and it may lack some control, but it fits in perfectly with the band's music. Nevermore always play a few nice solo's, usually at least 1 in each song and they create some great riffs. With songs like What Tomorrow Knows, Garden of Gray, Hurting Words, and Godmoney i don't really see how others can discard this as 1 of their worst cd's. I would have to recommend this cd to anybody that likes Nevermore, because in my opinion this is probably the best cd they have put out.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite band.......2001-11-27

Man, what can I say? I have all the cd's by Nevermore, this is the last one I bought. And while I think The Politics of Ecstasy, Dreaming Neon Black, and Dead Heart.. are better albumns, this one is absolutely essential. Warrell Dane's vocals are haunting and harsh at the same time, and Loomis and Sheppard provide the perfect blend of thrash and melody I have come to expect. Why this band hasn't gone triple-platnium is beyond me. But if you like Queensryche, but always wished they had more balls, this is the band for you.

4 out of 5 stars Very good !!.......2001-06-30

5 out of 5 stars METAL AT ITS FINEST.......2005-11-15

Galloglass, what a surprise. Another german power metal band that shows once again germany rules metal. These guys are fantastic. The vocals are incredible and will not dissapoint annyone. The thing I like most about this band is the little touches they produce. For example, the first song(dragons revenge) has a operatic intro that is very nicely put with the song. And the second song(ancient times) as a violin piece that is very well put together and fits perfectly with the song. Little touches like these gives these guys an epic fell. You can't ignore however, that guitarists coming desolation and progeria are going to be great, and they are. The guitars are fast and play incredibls solo's and compose fantastic riffs. All in all this band is best catogarized as melodic epic power metal. A must have for any metal cd collection. If you like bands like rhapsody, helloween, and dragonforce, you will fall in love with these guys

5 out of 5 stars Finest debut ever !.......2005-09-06

This is the finest power metal I have ever heard along with Human Fortress,' "Defenders of the Crown". Very highly reccomended !!!

    4 out of 5 stars oozing talent.......2004-12-31

This is the debut from Galloglass, a German power metal band that sounds like, well, a German power metal band -- with the significant qualifier that they're a lot better than average, and also they add a few Rhapsody-esque touches here and there, mainly in the intros and outros to individual tunes. In those places in particular, this album is flat-out great. This band oozes talent and can only get better. The only reason I give them four stars instead of five is because about half of this album is just too generic-sounding to my ears; but the other half is so strong that this is an automatic must-buy if you like fairly speedy, keyboard-backed Euro-power-metal. And who doesn't?

5 out of 5 stars Quality Power Metal!.......2004-06-03

Well, these days power metal is being given a bad name with endless crap bands bringing out cds. Of course there are amazing power metal albums still being released... Dream Evil, Hammerfall, Freedom Call, Sinner, Rhapsody.... And Galloglass!!

These guys have really suprised me. A lot of the bands on the Limb music label are UTTER RUBBISH. Ok, Rhapsody was on there and they are incredible, Adagio were on there too. There are a few other good bands but most are poor 20th rate helloween ripoffs.

Anyway, Galloglass have released a great album with really melodic and well written songs. I like the singer, he has a nice tone to his voice. The production is good, although the guitars could be a bit meatier I guess.

The best song on this album is easily the first one, Dragons Revenge which is one of my favourite ever power metal songs. It's so catchy. The rest of the album is also excellent.
The music is a cross between Rhapsody and Helloween. But ultimately sound like neither.

If you are a fan of power definately pick this album up.

1 out of 5 stars Galloglass : "Legends From Now And Nevermore".......2004-05-13

Sorry, but this is not even close to being anywhere near a five star release, this is nothing but very mediocre Metal. This stinks....

The singer is horrible, and the songs sound like cheap imitations from the 80's NWOBHM era. I'm not sure about the rest of the fans here, but there is no way I can't take this band seriously. They're like a Manowar clone. A Spinal Tap if you will.

Horrible. Some of the cheapest, most tedious Metal I've heard. AVOID THIS!!!

If you want the best Metal has to offer today, go pick up the new Edguy release called "Hellfire Club". That's Metal!!!

Nevermore's Asylum features all-classic Chapter 13 production with the exception of one track by the enigmatic SP-1200 producer Gensu Dean and "Corner 2 Corner", produced by New Jersey’s Analogic. "Songs like "All Day" and "Makin’ It Right" showcase our classic production style," states Rashid, "but "Burnin’", "How We Sposed To Grow" and "Vacation" bring a totally new sound to the table. We like to be different… we take risks and basically do what we want to do."

Guys! This cats are hot, good productions matching well connected and very intelligent rhymes. Chapter 13's style is just like little brother/9th wonder but only deeper. I'll rate these cats as the best in the game alongside Little Brother.
Get this CD and support real Hip Hop.
On the real though, this is by far the best CD i've bought in years!!

5 out of 5 stars Too good to be unknown!.......2006-02-04

Rashid Hadee and Young Valentine really have something here. Their styles compliment each other very well and they are both outstanding at both producing and emceeing. This is cd is the perfect example of what a hip-hop album should be. The cd has a 94-96ish feel. And rhymes are actually about something. You're not going to hear these catz start yellin shake that laffy taffy or some stupid ish like that because they represent whats left of real hiphop.

    5 out of 5 stars A remaster worth buying!.......2006-09-30

Not every remaster is usually worth buying (I found out the hard way for my Megadeth albums), but this is an exception. Not only is the sound quality improved, but there is FIVE bonus tracks & they are fairly decent too considering the last 4 are rough demo tracks. There also is of course an updated booklet which includes a little story behind the album, live & publicity pics, & the liner notes & artwork has been redone. I would definitely recommend the upgrade if you are a big fan of the band!

      Product Description

Dawn of a New Athens is the long awaited album for all fans of symphonic metal. After 4 years Aesma Daeva has compiled its strongest lineup. With Grammy award winning Producer Neil Kernon (Hall and Oats, Queensryche). This album comes with major label production and underground originality. The album opens with the doom metal epic Tiszas Child. A wonderful song featuring the choral voices and members of (Rose Ensemble and Vocal Essence) combined with the lead vocals of Lori Lewis (Therions touring vocalist 2007) This is one of the most emotion and colorful symphonic metal albums released. Guitars are handled by Earl Root Minneapoliss own Root of all evil ,(ex disturbed God Awful) Bass guitar covered by Chris Quinn (DODD, A Whisper in the Noise) Other Highlights include DOreste DAdjace from Mozarts recently censored opera Idomenio. It is a very original and well thought out arrangement with rock and roll tempo changes and groove, but never loosing the vocalists money runs that we are all waiting to hear. Easily matched in intensity is Since the Machine a dystopian epic of massive chords and massive proportions based on George Orwels 1984.
