Customer Reviews:
The true creators and legends of Grind.......2007-01-12
Of course what's a Horrified review without mentioning it's massive influence. This has to be one of the most ripped-off extreme metal albums I've ever heard. I mean even the first time I listened to this I was like "dude there's a Carcass riff! Wait there's ND riff! There's another!" and so on and so on. But one of the biggest culprits are Entombed of all people. It was because of Repulsion they were able to create the almighty Left Hand Path. Just to push this point further here's some specific examples- listen to the riff in Festering Boils then listen to Carcass's Reek of Putrefaction (the song), the beginning of "Bodily Dismemberment" is EXACTLY the same as the beginning of the title track on Left Hand Path, I don't blame them though since Repulsion had a real knack for writing some of the sickest intro riffs ever. I could go on but you get my drift.
What also stands out here are the lyrics, yes for today's standards they're not too intimidating but back then they were pretty insane, perfectly blending a touch of cartoony/chessiness and realism in them. The band themselves even stated that they were purely for humor only and they certainly add a fun element to the album. Oh I can't forget the vocals, they're very raw and raspy, quite unique for grindcore.
In a nutshell the band was trying to be over the top in every aspect and they're perhaps the one band to encompass everything that's "over the top" and still make a brilliant album. And to imagine these were just four crazy kids (from Michigan of all places!) who were just willing to be a tad more adventurous than everyone else and look what happened. This is of course mandatory purchase for extreme metal fans as this is one of the best grind albums ever, it deserves all the praise it gets. It's also perfect for people justing getting into grindcore. However, if I had just one complaint about this it would be the production which does sound sweet even if the whole thing is of "demo" quality, but judging from ND's sick cover of "Maggots" I know this would sound even BETTER if it had better production and then I'd probably think this was the best record ever made. I'm still giving this a high 96% though.
Everyone seems to have a different set of highlights and here's mine - Radiation Sickness, Splattered Cadavers, Six Feet Under, Maggots In Your Coffin, and my fave Black Breath.
Vintage, classic extreme metal - the way it should be played.......2006-06-03
The lyrics are graphic, the cover art is graphic, the approach is completely unsubtle and the album as a whole is a grimy, grinding display of bloody-minded ultra-thrash. It is, then, effectively a perfect early extreme metal record. One to listen to loud, while drinking heavily, thrashing around and talking about zombies. This is the kind of metal that's meant to be spelled out in capitals with five As and exclamation marks. 20 years have not dented its aggression, they've only driven its influence deeper into the world of heavy metal.

Clint Eastwood's gritty boxing drama was the big winner at the 2005 Academy Awards, garnering Oscars for Best Film, Best Director (Eastwood), Best Actress (Hillary Swank) and Best Supporting Actor (Morgan Freeman). As it did for 2003's Mystic River, Eastwood's life-long love of music and budding confidence as a composer has led him again to score the film himself. Anchored by elegiac figures for solo acoustic guitar and piano, it often shares River's spacious, subtle introspection. But it's also occasionally seasoned with welcome dollops of jazz and blues, the byproduct of a longstanding love affair with American roots music that also yielded his Charlie Parker biopicCustomer Reviews:

Million Dollar Baby - soundtrack.......2007-01-10
If you enjoyed the movie, having the soundtrack is a must.
An incredible story of courage, determination and love.......2006-04-24
Eastwood's score hits it where it counts.......2005-10-30
The sound, most notably in the solo Guitar and Piano sections carries a simple, but thoroughly elegant, characteristic, and haunting melody that speaks right to the center of what this film is all about--pain, love, soul-searching, and finding hope, to name a few.
The music to this film also shows Eastwood's devotion and love of the story, and the music and the visual element click together in a way that few movies and scores match. The bittersweet, haunting refrain of the Piano and the equally bittersweet, hauting melody that is taken up, elaborated, and somewhat varied by the full orchestra serves as a beautiful foil and metaphore to echo the lighting of the film itself, and some of the sets, like the dismal, bare, dark set of the hospital late in the film.
The subtle variations that are present throughout make it even more wonderful, too. There are a couple Blues numbers in here too, which are no less wonderful than the rest, but do provide some lighter material as well.
The simplicity of it shines through especially brightly, as well. Most of the music is either the solo Piano or the Guitar, as I have mentioned above, but both show all the emotion without needing the backing of a large ensemble, though in this case, the orchestral sections do not steal the wonderful simplicity of the solo instruments.
This music has by far the most soul of any score I've heard, and I strongly reccommend you get it. Your money will be well spent. I had a lump in my throat from the first track to the last. Bravo, Clint!!
If the movie OR the music didn't touch you--yer dead in the ring!.......2005-08-25
My Vote: Bravo!

IMPORTANT EXTREME MUSIC RELEASE!!!!!!.......2005-10-23
ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ALBUM's IN EXTRME MUSIC HISTORY!!!!
This is what influenced CARCASS for fukk's sake!! meaning with out this there would be no ''REEK OF..''!! and basicly no NAPALM DEATH(well their first two album's RULE!) either!!
REPULSION was from the USA as well..showing how much we AMERICAN's influenced other band's..check BLUE CHEER and THE STOOGE's as well for more proof!!!!
REPULSION will always just be a legend!!! they were influenced by METAL, PUNK and HARDCORE..and it show's plenty of HARDCORE PUNK to this as well as METAL!!!! almost ''OI'' at time's!!
YOU CANT NOT OWN THIS AND THINK YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT DEATH METAL OR UNDERGROUND MUSIC IN GENERAL!! THESE GUY's ARE THE FATHER's OF ALL THESE GORE BAND's!!
This version(the '92 ZOGLAPSE one) has the picture's ZOGLAPSE omited from their 2 disc re-release because Dave Grave has a Hitler type mustache!!!! LOL..yes ZOGLAPSE are such JOOZ!! Dave Grave didnt even worship Hitler!! it was just his look!! ZOGLAPSE said they FEARED A ''back lash'' haha..if they feared a ''back lash'' why release ''emo'' crap like ''PIG DESTROYER'' that is enough for a boy cott!!
Find this version used and dont give ZOGLAPSE any money!!

Maggots In Your Coffin.......2003-07-18
Repulsion's 'Horrified' earned a status among tape traders almost equal to that of Hellhammer and Metallica in their heyday. And so it should have.
This was Death Metal before Death Metal. At the time, Death Metal was nothing more than an offshoot of Thrash, still in an embryonic state. 'Horrified' burst straight in and laid waste to all around it. The standard of production is incredibly good, shaming many which followed, like early Napalm Death, Carcass and Death.
What makes this album so outstanding is its extremity. It melded blistering speed (including blast beats), chunky guitars, death grunt vocals, and gory lyrics, providing the blueprint for countless bloodthirsty hordes of Gore Metal bands to follow. A lot of the song titles have reappeared since- "Six Feet Under", "Splattered Cadavers", "Acid Bath".
The songs generally rumble along at a constant velocity. Drummer Dave Grave mashed up the mix to keep it interesting, throwing in some impressive blasts. There is also the odd sparse guitar solo, similar to what Carcass produced on 'Symphonies of Sickness'. Yngwie Malmsteen it is not, but the off kilter guitar noises produced add an interesting flavour.
Like a majority of Death Metal vocalists, trying to decipher what the hell Scott Carlson is on about is nigh on impossible. On the odd occasion though, the vocals clear up a little, to good effect, particularly on the classic "Maggots In Your Coffin".
Not gaining a decent release until six years after it was recorded, Repulsion kind of missed the boat when Death Metal burst forth from the rotted corpse of Thrash. However, their influence is undeniable- Death, Autopsy, Napalm Death, Carcass, Necrophagia, Mortician, Suffocation. Chances are, if you are listening to a Gore Obsessed Death Metal band, Repulsion has been an influence somewhere along the line.
